Double Router Forwarding - To Make The Internet Faster
Sep 30, 2011
I'm currently switching from a certain internet provider to another and I'm forced to get another router. What I wanted to do is since the initial router has to be on the first floor, I'd like to have the second one on the top floor closer to my computer whereas they would share a dedicated connection between each other wirelessly so it would make my connection faster rather than just having my pc connect directly wirelessly to the initial router on the first floor. Is that possible?

About two weeks ago, my internet connection became faster. I am not sure if it has to do with my cable ISP doing something or something I did with my computer.
Right around the same time, my connection began disconnecting every two or three days. Before this, I had a rock solid connection for two years.
It will usually reconnect after a minute. Otherwise, when I boot my computer, the problem is solved.
I am certain there is a correlation between the connection speed going up and my connection becoming less stable.

I have a BEFCMU10 version 2.0 cable modem. My provider Insight Broadband has recently boosted their internet speeds. But I have found out that if my modem is not DOCSIS 2.0 compliant, I cannot get the faster speeds. How do I know if it is DOCSIS 1.1 or DOCSIS 2.0 compliant? I hope I don't have to replace the modem as it has given me absolutely no trouble since I have had it.

This is my Cisco LAB environment used for study but also in production for daily use. I am trying to setup a double-NAT network with just one IP from my ISP through the ASA & 3825 going to (2) end nodes and multiple ports for port forwarding. It is currently working but only as simple PAT and I cannot initiate FTP from the outside. removing the router, but this is my study LAB and it's a bit unconventional for learning purposes. I attached the diagram and need parts of the config.

I'm suffering from an annoying problem with my E4200 router. I have a DSL connection. I have my DSL modem in bridge mode and I have my router set up to sign into my ISP's PPPoE to avoid double-routing. This set up worked marvelously with my previous WRT54G and WRT610N routers.Now the E4200 signs me out of PPPoE every ten minutes or so. I have the connection setting on "Keep Alive" but it seems to be dropping the connection regularly. I took the router back and was given a replacement. The new router is doing the same exact thing and now I am beyond the 30 day return limit so I'm stuck with the E4200. I'm running the latest firmware 1.0.03
I reinstalled the WRT610N and the connection is steady but the WRT610N has its own problems (devices connected via wireless cannot see wired devices and vice-versa). I'd like my new router to actually work properly. I've ruled out errors on my end and given that two brand new units of the E4200 generated the same problem I tend to believe it is a design error.

I have IIS running in a machine inside my network and I would like to make is visible to the world wide web.To do that, I created a website in the port 8787, which is accessible when the user types 192.168.0.126:8787 in the browser. Of course it works only when the user is inside my network.(IIS running over windows server 2008 OS)Now I want to make it visible to the WWW, so I created a rule to make a port forwarding to it:I went to: Advanced > Virtual Servers and created a rule with the given information:
enabled
Name: website
private ip: 192.168.0.126
protocol: both
private port: 8787
public port: 8787
Schedule: always
This rule created automatically a firewall rule
Enabled
Alow
Source: WAN *
Destination: LAN 192.168.0.126 Protocol: * Port range:8787
always
Unfortunately it isn't enough, if I type myPublicIp:8787 I can't access the website because I either get "connection reset" error or a timeout.I pluged my computer directly in my modem and it worked perfectly.To make a test, I tried to enable the router remote administration on the port 10001. It didn't work.ps: my wireless router is a dlink di-524, I am writing this in this forum because I couldn't find the one related to my router...

My current home set-up is two desktops on Xfinity internet, using a MOTOROLA SB5120 modem pared with a WRT160N V3 router.I was told that my router was bottlenecking my download speeds. It is quite annoying when we can't download anything because it will slow any gameplay going on, we have to do one thing a time. Even Youtube videos will slow us down.[code] would I benefit from getting a new modem or router.

I just read online that in order to get real life high speed from your N router you need to set it to only N, or not have any other G devices connected. If not it wil fall back on the G speed.Here the text:" Wireless N claims "real world" speeds of 130-160Mbps, with a listed maximum of 300Mbps. This is reliant on the router transmitting in full 802.11n mode, which is impossible when an 802.11g device is also connected to the network."And if so. What is real life expected speed on the dir 655 on a wireless 300 card excelent connection either with pure N and then with combined N/G?

I just bought a new WRT120N Router. It worked perfectly wired and wireless.But my old laptop burned, and the new one came with a Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Network Adapter, which is Draft-N compatible.The laptop connects to the router fine, but using only the G type. When I set the router to use only 802.11n, i get a message from Windows, like: "Windows was unable to connect to the network."because the N configuration is much faster than the old G.

So i'm behind a fiber 100mbit connection, and for the past few weeks i've been noticing overall slowness on everything video related, from youtube to any kind of stream using flash video.If I try to watch a video on youtube it will constantly buffer, the same with stuff like ustream and the like.
The odd thing is that I have VPN service that I use to avoid regional restrictions, and when I use it to stream anything, then all the videos and streams are silky smooth and load pretty quickly which is odd since It should work on reverse. Also, a speed test through the proxy gives me no more than 10mbit, while without the proxy I get 95+mbit.
Is it something with the router? I've never heard of the ISP throttling stuff.Like I said, everything works perfectly, except video streams. I can max out torrents at more than 10 MB/s.The router im using is a D-link dir-855 (provided by my isp). I head about disabling QoS.

The Netbook is connected to my wireless network, but will not connect to the internet. It keeps asking me to transfer information, via thumb drive, from a wireless access point, but my router is my wireless connector and it doesn't have a USB port to plug in a thumb drive. am having speed issues on the wireless side of my WRT54GL v1.1 router.When I hook up a laptop to the wired port, am getting roughly 5.4mps down when wired, but only 1.2mpbs down on wireless. I am tried doing a factory restore. I have made sure that no QoS is in place. I have tried multiple devices to make sure it is not something on the device side causing this problem, but all the devices perform just as poorly on wireless but as well on wired.

I am trying to forward a port to see a camera over the internet. On the single port forwarding screen under Gaming, I have put in port 8090 (Ext and Int),Protocal both, an IP address and Enabled. I have also tried putting in a range, but neither seems to work. After forwarding the port, I check with What's My IP Addrewss to get the external IP, then put the IP in a blank browser page with and without the port number. I have tried this several times without any result.

Why is the 2700 faster if the 3500 is more expensive ? 2. will cisco put out a firmware that allows me to block more then 100 urls and keywords cuz as it is now i find that limiting it to only 8 urls makes the new linksys routers useless and NO i wont use opendns they are slow and charge you to remove the ads thats why i use the keyword blockin to block popups and ads 3.will a firmware upgrade make the 3500 faster then the 2700 later on ?

I just upgrade my service with Comcast so I can now get up to 50Mbps, however the modem when directly connected to the PC can obtain these speeds, it does not when the PC is connected to the E4200 router. In fact the Cisco Connect speed test shows the upload speeds (10+ Mbps) to be faster than the download speed(4.82 Mbps). I upgraded the firmware to the latest level but it did not make a difference.

I have recently purchased an EA4500 router. I assigned my sons XBOX a static IP via DHCP reservation (outside of the standard DHCP range). I set up single port forwarding on all the standard xbox required ports. Once I click the "enabled" box, I am unable to access the internet from any of the computers connected to the router. If I uncheck the enable box, I am instantly able to access the internet.

I recently opened the ports used by Xbox Live: Port 88 (UDP)Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)Port 53 (UDP and TCP)Port 80 (TCP)I am able to use xbox live once these ports are opened but once they are enabled, I can not get wireless internet. The xbox is connected to the router with a cable so it isn't experiencing this probem. My laptop and phone are able to identify the network and join but there is no internet access.
If I disable these ports, everything goes back to normal.

I am using an RV042 router/firewall -- firmware v1.3.13.02-tm -- connected to a cable modem.I have one public address (WAN1) assigned by my ISP's DHCP server.All my machines on the LAN have static IPs. (RV042 DHCP Server is disabled.)I have set up port (80) forwarding to 192.168.1.101 The HTTP port forwarding does work if an http client on the LAN sends a request to http://<public-ip>:80But I cannot get a response if I send a request to http://<public-ip>:80 from a machine on the WAN.
I did configure Access Rules to allow http traffic (and then tried to allow *all* traffic) between a single IP on the WAN and 192.168.1.101 The incoming log table shows a connection is made from the http client on the internet to the correct http server on the LAN, but there is no resonse from the LAN to the remote client.Is my configuration the problem, or is this feature not supported by the RV042 router? Could my cable modem be blocking outbound traffic?

I have inherited a Cisco VPN 3005 and need to configure an interesting scenario:
2 LAN-2-LAN tunnels: 1 required an outside IP and has an existing static NAT of 192.168.1.1 -> 12.2.1.1 for 0.0.0.0 as the destination.I now have a need to created a new NAT for 192.168.1.1 to translate to 10.99.1.1 for destination of 13.3.1.1, 14.3.1.1 and 15.3.1.1.
Is it possible to have the above scenario, or even NAT 12.2.1.1 from the first NAT back to 10.99.1.1??
