I work at technical support and I heard a story about a customer that lost his internet connection when there was a high tide. I do not know the details but is it possible that high tide can affect wireless internet signals?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI currently have 3 pcs - one desktop ethernet - one desktop wireless adapter and one laptop wireless. I unplugged the desktop wireless a few nights ago - I have since been on the ethernet desktop fine but when I tried to log on with the laptop wireless - no deal. So I replugged the wireless desktop and then the laptop was o.k. to connect. This doesn't seem normal but I don't know. One unplugged pc on the network shouldn't affect the others should it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had my DIR-655 for a few years now and it has been running fine up until a few months ago.
I haven't changed any features or done some major changes but it started cutting out all network traffic. WiFi drops internet connection but is still connected and both my NAS and my wired computer are also cut off from the network but shows as connected.
The router GUI is not accessible when this happens. The routers leds are lit but for some reason all network activity is dropped. Restarting the router resets everything.
This is rather sporadic but happens at least 2 times a day.
I have disconnected the internet connection and left the "internal" network be up and running and then too I get the network "cut-off" after some time so it is not dependent on my ISP.
I have Hardware Version A2 and am running Firmware Version 1.32NA. I tried to install the 1.35NA and it goes and does something but when it comes back it is still on 1.32NA so the FW upgrade doesn't kick in. Is my hardware too old for it possibly?
Will a Wi-Fi range extender affect (i.e., reduce) the signal of the router? How does the throughput signal compare between where it originates and where it ends?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am planning the upgrade of an ASA 5550 Active/Passive cluster from 8.0 to 8.2 according to the "zero downtime upgrade" documentation available in the web.
I do not have another cluster for comprehensive testing, but I executed a simple migration procedure on a tiny 5505 and neither licensing features nor the configuration (the command sintax) were affected by this process. I know this is something to care about if you go to 8.3, but this is not my case.I browsed the release notes of 8.2(5) and no special disclaimer was found by me with respect to this release. So everything should work just fine, but I would like to double check for input with respect to these two subjects:
1.Will the licensed features (vpn, concurrent connections, etc) be preserved?
2. Will the configuration be preserved ?
Can the quality of my phone line affect the ability of web pages to load? Some times web pages load flawlessly at other times browser says web page found but it refuses to load. I assume that things could get slow if I am downloading various updates in the background. What could be my problem? My phone line is on poles-underground-been spliced and on the end of the line. Seems like when I need to connect I can't.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm running 8.3 on a 5505. We've got a few ssh tunnels originating from inside to some place on the internet. It seems these tunnels are closed every n minutes. I've seen two recommendations for altering the timeout values, and what I am interested in is infinite timeout (0) for these SSH tunnels.
Suggestion 1, alter timeout "conn". Default is 30 minutes, but I suspect this might have a negative impact because no inactive connections would be closed, ever. If it however is recommended to alter, how to set it to "0" (off/unlimited)? timeout conn 1:00:00 half-closed 0:10:00 udp 0:02:00 icmp 0:00:02
Suggestion 2, enable a ssh class map which explicitely set the timeout for the ssh connection. Is this recommended? How would I achieve unlimited time? And what about random-sequence-number disabled as seen below, is that really recommended?

I'm planning to upgrade Cisco ASA 8.2 to an anyconnect essentials and mobile license. Are there any concerns with some users continuing to utilize the cisco vpn IPSEC client while others migrate to the Anyconnect? I just want to make sure when I upgrade the license that there will not be an immediate requirment to have all users switch to Anyconnect immediately.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe have a fairly new Asus laptop and for some reason we can't get the wireless to turn on any more.It has a Function button method to turn it on and off and any time you use this button it shows the WLAN simple with a red line through it. No matter how many times you press it it does the same thing.I've tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling, ran a security update for the drivers. When I go into the wireless connection and try and turn it on it shows that it has a signal (not sure what to) but a red X next to the connection in windows 7. I can't actually see any wireless signals so I'm kind of at a loss.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor quite some time now my parents' wireless internet cannot seem to keep a wireless signal anywhere in the house unless you are sitting next to the router. I've been doing everything I know to try and keep the signal strong enough to use it down the hall in the living room.
I've tried using different frequencies and channels however this only seems to work for an hour then the network will fall off the network list entirely and then a few minutes later will pop back in. What is causing this signal to die out completely every few minutes? They've tried countless numbers of wireless routers in hopes it would fix the problem however this never seems to work. Is this an issue with the ISP and/or the modem they provide us? Wired connections work fine, just wireless connections refuse to either stay up or constantly disconnect the user from the network.

I normally get asked to input a security key. NOW the screen will simply close after i press the enter key. Right clicking and trying to connect also am having the same issue. MY wireless signal for MY comcast account it connects perfectly.

There is no green (yellow) light on the modum itself.The tech support guys have spent time with me but without success. Loads of excuses from them.I am connected by ethernet cable and everything works fine but I have sustained a back injury and desperately need to get the wireless functioning.I can access the Netgear smart wizard page - originally I had a blank page on "wireless page".. View 1 Replies View RelatedFor my network the way it is setup is one building has the 2 main servers.simple wireless router and a few laptop that connect to it. a Wii and some other devices, all of them share media etc with no issue. Internet is not a problem either.One of the servers has a PCI wireless card and connects to another network.(network2)network 2 is able to share and play all the media off the service lets say 80% of the time.It also has a different internet provider and internet connection is not a problem but the wireless signal strength is low , (2 bars) or -55 to -82 it seams to jump around at.If you try to stream or play too much media it freezes on you. or if 2 devices on network 2 try to play something it freezes as well sometimes though when the signal is good -55 ish there is no issues.There is alot of wireless traffic in the area, i cant change that.and dont really want to buy a ranger extender or something $20 is what I have for parts if anything. If I were to put a 2nd wireless card in server 2 or Server 1 even. Also both the wireless router on network 2 and the pci card on server 2 are physically as close as hey can get.

My wireless IS on, and my mother's IPad uses the same router as my laptop does for internet and she gets internet with no problem, so it's not the router. I've tried rebooting the computer, disabling and reinabling the wireless, shutting down the computer for the night and trying in the morning, and none of these things worked.
Can I have 2 routers and make 2 separate wireless signals? Reason being I need one so that I can keep net blacks for my little brother but I would like my net not to have any restrictions.

On the dashboard of our asa 5510 the "outside interface" traffic usage is running constantly high. It's at the top of the graph. How can I tell what is causing the spike in utilization. View 6 Replies View RelatedWe installed a solution with 2 Cisco 2801, BGP multihomed failover.
1) The router which is currently getting all the traffic gets to 55% to 60% of CPU usage when handling 40 SIP/RTP streams . This equals 10Mbit up/10Mbit down and it showed around 5800 packets TX and around 5800 packets RX, with a majority of them CEF switched. As those figures are way less than the performance figures published by Cisco, we wonder if we made any mistake in setting up our router, or if we can do something to improve the router setup.
2) Does it have an impact on router performance if we increase/decrease RTP packet size, thus increasing or decreasing the pps relative to the consumed bandwidth?
3) If it is not possible to improve router configuration, we also wonder about possible replacement units for those routers. Would a 2901 do a good job? By how much would it rise the capacity? What other models would you recommend if we plan to rise the number of concurrent calls by a factor of 4 or even 8 times of what we have now (so up to 48000 pps and 80Mbit).
Here is what we tried:
- ip route-cache same-interface does not seem to improve anything
- ip flow ingress on or off makes no difference
- disabling the inbound ACL on fa0/0 seems to reduce load by 10%, although I don't understand why - a very high percentage is CPU interrupts, and ACLs are process switched, or not?
- we tried following the Cisco guide for high CPU due to high interrupts, with no success
Here are some usage statistics:
The graphs that we plot via SNMP show a propotional growth/increase of CPU and bandwidth (and thus pps) At the highest loads, we had a bit more than 55% CPU utilization with more than 50% interrupt CPU.

My laptop will work on a wired connction just fine, however it fails to pick up wireless internet signals. It will either not find the signal, or not connect to it unless I have my laptop wired with an ethernet cable. My network adapter is a Broadcom 802.11n. I have tried updating the driver, and multiple different routers/connections.(Yes the adapter is enabled to search for connections, it just doesnt find them unless I have it wired)

What I'm trying to do: I currently have a Linksys E1000..I have two computers that access this point via built in adapters in the computers. In another room are my gaming consoles and television that I would like to hook up to the internet as well. Is there a wireless adapter that will pick up my Linksys E1000 signal and let me plug ethernet cords into it so my consoles and television can access the network?
