Cisco :: 2504 - Access Point Not Joining Correct Controller

Apr 4, 2013

I am trying to setup a 2504 Wireless Controller with a few  AIR-AP1262N-E-K9 Access Points. But i'm having trouble getting the access points to connect to the controller. The controller and AP's are setup at a local network at one of my customers. They are part of a quite large organization and are therefore connected to some of their other divisions in different contries via MPLS. The DHCP and DNS servers are therefore on a different subnet.I have confirmed that the Access Points do get a correct IP from the DHCP server and that i am able to ping from the controller to the AP. When looking at the controller it does not receive any join requests from the AP's. I have setup a console connection to the controller and 1 AP, so i can view debug information. Most guides mention that you can run different LWAPP commands from the CLI on the AP like show lwapp for example. But i am not able to run any of these LWAPP commands on my AP.

Cisco Wireless :: Manually Add Access Point To 2504 Wireless Controller

Sep 18, 2012

We have a 2504 Wireless Controller and it works great! We currently have 6 Access Points (Aironet 1252) connected. We just added the sixth one a few weeks ago and with a properly configured and fully functioning Wireless Controller, it was super easy. Now, I have been assigned to add another Access Point, but at a remote site. The plan is to have up to three or more APs at this remote location and we want them to talk back to the Wireless Controller. We have plenty of licences on our current Wireless Controller.Do do not want to spend the funds for another Wireless Controller and more licenses.

1. How does one manually add a Aironet 1252 to the 2504 Wireless Controller

2. If the AP is on a different subnet than the Wireless Controller, how does one get it registered?

3. The best for last: Can a Aironet 1252 talk to a 2504 Wireless Controller over a WAN link?

Cisco Wireless :: 2504 WLC / Flexconnect APs Stopped Joining?

May 12, 2013

A customer of mine has a centralized 2504 WLC with 7.2 code running.  They have 1142N APs deployed locally as well as in remote sites (3) in FlexConnect mode.  For no apparent reason last Thursday all the remote APs disassociated with the controller and could not rejoin.  All the local APs remained up and unaffected. No changes to the WLAN, LAN, Firewall or MPLS WAN occured to cause this. The customer opened a TAC case and their determination was that ports 5246-5247 were not getting thru.  When the customer engaged me this morning I had him run a packet capture on the Sonicwall firewall to prove out if the CAPWAP signals were leaving and returning across the WAN.  Sure enough we can see this bi-directional traffic (pic attached).  Also, I had the MPLS provider run a trace at the far end and they see the same traffic leave the remote site.  And then an odd thing happened; one of the APs at one of the remote sites all of a sudden Joined the controller.  So I tried rebooting the AP that is located in the same office, and it fails to Join.  When I look on the controller under AP Join statistics, the last activity shows the controller receiving a Discovery Request and response is sent, but no further Config Request and response or Join Request and response.

The APs learn the controllers IP addresses through DHCP Option 43.  When we setup a new site we put the IP address of the controller we want the AP to join first.  Lately, I've noticed that regardless of which WLC IP I put first when I setup Option 43 the LAPs are always joining a particular controller.

Cisco Wireless :: 4400 How To Get New Access Point To Be Seen By Controller

Jul 23, 2012

I have a Cisco Series 4400 WLAN controller and I'm trying to connect a lightweight AP to the controller.  I have already assigned the switch port to use my wi-fi VLAN, and have connected the AP to the switch.  After a few minutes, the light on the AP goes from green to light blue (indicating it's serving clients). When I log into he wi-fi controller to look for the Ethernet mac address of the new AP, I do not see its Mac Address.  I want to be able to rename the AP to reflect where it will be used,  but need to select the AP via its Ethernet mac address before I can make any edits like changing its name etc. I've gone through the "monitoring" menu, selected "All" and still do not see it in their via its MAC address.  I also will select the "wireless menu" which lists all the AP's on my network, listing in order from on the longest running, to just powered on.Is there something I'm missing like a "re-scan" that scan's all devices?

Cisco Wireless :: 1262AP / Access Point Not Online On Controller?

Dec 3, 2012

I have been trying to get a 1262AP registered to wireless lan controller. The core switch has three 2 vlans in it, management which is vlan 41 and AP interaction vlan which is vlan 51.Controller also has both these vlans.

Vlan 41 - 192.168.40.x/23 ( management vlan)
Vlan 61 - 192.168.61.x/24 (AP vlan)
WLC management interface IP is 192.168.40.18
WLC AP interface IP is 192.168.6.241

Now , during the initial steps, the access points are attached to the switchports on vlan41, wherein they get the dhcp ip from the temporary pool created on the controller and get registered.But, these access points in actual environment needs to be on static ip address. When it's ip is changed to a static IP address from the controller , it fails to register to the controller. the switchport is put on vlan6 as access port , after  static ip is assigned to the access point.The error i receive is ;

%CAPWAP-3-EVENTLOG: Could not resolve gateway. Not sending discovery request to 0.0.0.0, type 1

the core switch we are using in this new setup is a 2960 with a lanbase image. I realised the switch is not routing enabled. it doesn't accept the command "ip routing". Will this be creating a problem for the access points?  From the switch , the controller management and AP vlan IP address can be pinged. similarly, from the controller, AP and management vlan interface ip address of the switch can be pinged.

Niether of which are set to "Master" either.

Cisco :: 2504 - Upgrade The Controller

May 11, 2013

I have a wireless controller that works perfect but because we have some new access-points 1602i that is only supported bij software version 7.4.100.0. So I need to upgrade the controller because I now have version 7.0.116.0. I have read in release notes of version 7.4.100.0 that I first need to upgrade to 7.0.240.0 to avoid losing those VLAN settings.

Note If you have VLAN support and VLAN mappings defined on H-REAP access points and are currently using a 7.0.x controller software release that is prior to 7.0.240.0, we recommend that you upgrade to the 7.0.240.0 release and then upgrade to 7.4.100.0 to avoid losing those VLAN settings.

But I also read something about Field Upgrade Software. If you are using a Cisco 2500 Series controller and you intend to use the Application Visibility and Control (AVC) and Net Flow protocol features, you must install Wireless LAN Controller Field Upgrade Software for Release 1.8.0.0-FUS. This is not required if you are using other controller hardware models. For more information, see [URL] .....

Here is the system information of my controller:
Manufacturer's Name.............................. Cisco Systems Inc.Product Name..................................... Cisco Controller Product Version.................................. 7.0.116.0Bootloader Version............................... 1.0.16Field Recovery Image Version..................... 1.0.0Firmware Version................................. PIC 16.0
Build Type....................................... DATA + WPS
System Name...................................... WIFI-WLC-01System Location.................................. System
[Code] ....

I was thinking of the following steps:
1. Backup the current config
2. Upgrade to version 7.0.240.0
3. Test and backup the config
4. Upgrade to version 7.4.100.0
5. Test and backup the config
6. Upgrade Field Upgrade Software 1.8.0.0
