Cisco Firewall :: 5510 ASA Cannot Create Sub Interfaces For Intervlan Routing
Apr 8, 2013
I am trying to setup intervlan routing with a Cisco ASA 5510 and two 2960-S switches. The 5510 currently is using ASA Version 7.0(2) and has a base license. I tried to create a sub interface today based on some info I found regarding the routing piece and it didn't recognize the command. I'm thinking I may need to update the IOS code or the license on the firewall. I know the syntax was correct because I looked it up and found it in a Cisco document.
I have found multiple solutions to this question for < 8.2 but no solutions for the new way the ASA does nat statments,Basically i have multiple VLAN's and i need 2 of them to communicate
In the restructuration of my company network we install due ASA 5510 in failover for the management of internal network and DMZ. We configure the ASA in routed mode, we create the sub interface for server, client and dmz subnet and we connect the firewall ti the network. Everything works very good except the intervlan routin. If i try to send or receive a file in every protocol, ftp, http, smb o if i try to conne with rdp or vns to an host in a different vlan the connection goes very very slow. I particular a ftp connection between two host goes ti 15kb/s. I check all cable and port for some error on duplex ro speed, end all the uplink are 1gb and the single client connection 100Mb. I know that the main purpose of the ASA is not doing routing stuff but this behavior is very strange.
We are suffering an issue with ASDM 7.1(1) on a 5525-X with 9.1(1) software. In the Configuration --> Interfaces window, I can modify parameters on physical interfaces, I can modify parameter on subinterfaces, but I cannot create new subinterfaces or Etherchannels through ASDM.
When I create a subinterface, entering all parameters, interface name, vlan id, security level, etc., then I click on "Apply" button and nothing happens. It doesn't send anything to ASA. If I click on another window, ASDM ask for applying changes, I click on it, but nothing is applied and window doesn't change. It happens only when creating new interfaces. If I create them through CLI, then I can modify parameters without any problem.
I have tried re-installing java and I have tested with 6.31, 7.9, 7.11, 7.17 Java versions, from Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server and Windows 7 computers with same issue. Also with Linux Mint distro with IcedTea Java.
I am trying to figure out how to create an etherchannel with sub-interfaces on an asa 5520 running 8.4.1 code. It doesn't seem to allow me to configure any type of sub interface on the port-channel or anywhere else once I create it.
I have Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall with security plus license. I want to Configure 3 different subnet for inside network 10.1.x.x, 10.2.x.x and 10.3.x.x So any PC from 10.1.x.x should be able to ping 10.2.x.x So my question is that possible with ASA?? If yes than how can i configure on ASA 5505, as i know on 5510 we can configure sub interface and do intervlan routing.
Configuration of inter-vlan routing on ASA 5512 ver 8.6? I have everything configured (un-nat, access-list, etc.) but still not working. When i do a packet capture, it says the traffic is denied by the implicit acl. Here is my config:
interface GigabitEthernet0/0.100 vlan 100 nameif data security-level 100 [Code]...
I have ASA5510 with PLUSE License.I have 2 Inside interfaces as STAFF and MAIL and two Outside interface OUT_STAFF and OUT_MAIL which is in separate ISP's.now i want to nat STAFF to OUT_STAFF and MAIL to OUT_MAILbecause I'm having two default routes it gets impossible to do.
I've been following most of the comments in regarding how to allow communication between two internal networks on a ASA5510 8.2.5 But I am still a little confused about to how to set my firewall. I made chages to it and still do not have the desired results.
I need to allow comunication between Interface 0/1 and Interface 0/2. See configuration file with fake or dummy ip address below.
ASA Version 8.2(5) ! hostname ciscoasa domain-name lxx.com
I have a question regarding firewall configurations. Is it possible to have two interfaces ( for two internet service providers) one for voice and one for data. Can I have two Outside Interfaces that one will apply to a pppoe client group and the other will apply to a static IP? Is this possible and if so What would be the steps on applying this connection? Also to note I have a point to point connection already established for the pppoe. I also have another point to point connection for data, but however I do not know how to apply this to the firewall.
I have now configured another inside interface (ethernet0/2) on ASA with the IP 172.16.0.254 and I have connected it directly to another switch with a management IP 172.16.0.5.
The problem is that the two inside interfaces (130.130.0.254 &172.16.0.254) cannot communicate with each other thus the e0/2 172.16.0.254 interface cannot access the internet.
I need to route to sub nets form 2 different ASA interfaces. The ASA also has an outside interface works like gateway for internet access. Here is my configuration:
ASA Version 8.2(1) host name ICE3 names interface Ethernet0/0 name if outside security-level 0 ip address 201.199.xxx.xx 255.255.255.248 [Code]....
I would like to isolate my wlan from the remaining network but with two exceptions. First it sould be possible to print from all devices in the wlan and second... my notebook should not be isolated
Therefore I did the followning steps:
1. Create vlan 2.Set access rules
Basically I blocked any inter-vlan-routing from the wireless vlan. I allowed all traffic from the wireless address range to the printer's ip address. I allowed all traffic from the notebook's ip address to the private vlan.
3. Set a static DHCP entry for the notebook 4. Set an IP/MAC binding entry for the notebook
For some reason I can reach any ip address from any wireless device.
we have two ASA 5510 connected in failover, and a pair of cisco 2960s switch connected in stack. Currently one interface of primary ASA is terminated on switch1 and a interface from standby is connected to switch2 as Inside, and switch1 and switch2 are in stack. for redundancy purpose i want to use multiple interfaces of ASA for inside , so first i thought to use etherchannel , but it has a limitation that , it cannot be terminated on stack switch(as per cisco document [URL]
So my question is :
1. can we use redundant interface feature where 2 physical interfaces combined to a redundant interface (eg interface redundant 1) for inside redundancy purpose.
2. Can these ports from primary/standby ASA terminated on stack switches (2960s), will this work (if the switch with active port goes down, will the other port take over in the redundant interface with the other switch).
I have a Cisco ASA 5510 with 3 inside interfaces each connected to a 3750X switch port in a vlan. Outside interface is connected to external router with 209.155.x.x public IP. Static route exists for outbound traffic on outside interface.
3750X is configured for inter-vlan routing. VLANs 10, 20, and 30 have 172.16.x.1 IP address with static routes pointing to the each of the ASA inside interfaces - 172.16.x.254. Connected hosts are configured with gateways pointing to the appropriate vlan interface IP - 172.16.x.1.
Inter-vlan routing appears to be working - I can ping back and forth between hosts on different vlans, and I can ping each vlan IP.I can also ping each ASA inside interface from a host in the appropriate vlan, but I cannot ping internet sites (4.2.2.2 or 8.8.8.8) from hosts on the inside interfaces.
I can ping 4.2.2.2 from the ASA CLI. I can ping internal hosts on vlans 10,20,30 from the ASA CLI. But, no luck with pinging from inside host to internet hosts
User want to create on 5 network , 100.x , 200.x , 210.x , 250.x , 220.x .at the ASA5510, no enough port for 5 network. So I want to create 4 vlans on eth 0/3. I can create vlan but i cannot run this command " switchport mode trunk" " "switchport trunk allowed vlan list" how can be done for that?
Actually i want to use like thisASA5510-----4 vlans on eth 0/3------switch----vlan200,vlan210,vlan250,vlan220.
Successfully creating a port-forward in ASA5510, ASA version 8.3(1) ASDM6.3(1)?I have spend hours now trying, but I'm still unsuccessful. What I want is a simple: "if this particular ip-adress hits the wan interface on this tcp-port redirect to this inside ip-address on this tcp-port.I have never had any trouble on any other firewall creating something like this, but the ASA is killing me.
I have recently upgraded my ASA 5510 to 8.3 code and honestly I am confused on the best and most efficient way to do many nat translations through it. I have a group of about 100 IP's that need http/https/and sqlnet allowed through for our web farm.
I have a text file with the real and translated IP addresses and in 8.2 I could simply modify it and dump the thing in and make the NAT rules and access-lists. Now with the new object based model I am having a hard time wrapping my brain around how to do this using as few lines of code as possible.
Do I have to create an network object for each and every IP i want to nat through?
I'd like to create dhcp server pool on ASA 5510. I was wondering how big is the DHCP scope that Cisco ASA 5510 can support? Are there any ASA models which can support up to subnet mask 22 for DHCP scope?
I use 3 interfaces on an ASA 5510. First interface is Lan, Second interface is Outside, Third interface is ADSL The Outside interface is used for VPN L2L and smtp traffic. (Leased line on router managed by ISP)The Adsl interface is used for Http traffic. (Adsl Cisco router) I use this configuration found on another forum subjet for routing.route outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 x.x.x.x 1route adsl 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 y.y.y.y 2 nat (inside) 1 0 0global (outside) 1 interfaceglobal (Adsl) 1 interface static (Adsl, inside) tcp 0.0.0.0 www 0.0.0.0 www netmask 0.0.0.0 The problem is now I have an www intranet server on the VPN remote site. How i can exempt the http traffic to the intranet server routed through Adsl interface?
We have an ASA 5520 which is in multiple context mode. We are trying to pass traffic from the outside interface to the dmz interface. We have a /27 public ip range. We need a small amount of those addresses to be in the DMZ for SIP servers specifically. The rest of the addresses are NAT'd to the inside interface. So i created the outside interface GigabitEthernet0/0 with 1.2.3.192/28 Inside Interface GigabitEthernet0/2 with 192.168.20.0/24 DMZ interface on GigabitEthernet0/2.1 with 1.2.3.208/29 So all i want to do is route traffic that comes in the outside interface and out to the DMZ interface for the 1.2.3.208/29 subnet. I set the gateway address as 1.2.3.214 which is the DMZ interface address on the ASA.
I have the security levels for both set to 50 and in the ASDM I have checked off "Enable traffic between two or more interfaces which are configured with same security levels"
But now the need has arisen that we allow each subnet to be routable to each other for SMTP traffic, how can I accomplish this?
I am running into a issue that I cannot seem to figure out. I have a asa 5505 with the Security Plus license. I setup a native vlan where all of my network devices sit on. ie my Wireless Access point has an ip of 192.168.3.2, my switch .3. I have no issues managing these devices from any vlan I am on (permitting firewall access rules). When I try to access my ASA via ASDM/SSH. I have to use the gateway of the vlan I am on. For instance. If I am on vlan 10 I have to use 192.168.10.1 for access, if I am on vlan 20 I type 20.1...etc...etc If I type in 192.168.3.1 I get an error in the ASDM logs that states TCP reset by appliance. This is for any gateway I type except for the gateway of the vlan that I am connected to. I am posting a sanitized config. How can I configure the ASA to permit access via any gateway.
upgrading our small office network. We currently have about 75 employees with probably 125 devices on the network. I'd like to create about 10 vlans for the different departments and then configure intervlan routing as needed. Currently we have all unmanaged switches and it's just a huge broadcast storm on the network. We are upgrading our Cisco 800 router to an ASA5505 sec. Plus license. I need some recommendations on switches. Of course, this needs to be done as cheap as possible.... Is there a way to use the ASA to configure all the vlans and intervlan routing and access lists and use a cheaper switch to provide the access layer to hosts?
I'm trying to configure intervlan routing between a cisco 2801 router and HP/Amer switches. Using int fa0/1 and subinterfaces I was sure I had it configured correctly, but I cannot ping the default gateways when I place a host in a particular vlan. Below is what I have configured.
HP switch - port 9 connects to fa0/1 on 2801 ip default-gateway 10.1.100.1 trunk 9 Trk1 trunk trunk 10 Trk2 trunk - to another switch
I am using a 3750 as a default gateway for multiple Vlans on a few 2960 switches. The trunk lines are configured and working and I have assigned ip addresses to each of the Vlan interfaces on the 3750. My issue is that I can only ping the ip address on the Vlan interface of the 3750 if I have a working computer plugged directly into the Vlan on the 3750. I only have 3 vlans on the 3750 that have hosts directly connected (vlans 2, 10 and 40) the other vlans ( 20 and 70) don't have any clients plugged into them on the 3750 but the hosts reside on 2 different 2960s that connect via trunk ports. How do I keep the vlan interface on the 3750 switch pingable when I don't have hosts directly connected in that vlan on the 3750? (yes, I have enabled ip routing on the 3750)
I have been looking into this for a while and I can't seem to figure out why my 2nd vlan is not able to connect properly to the net. My switch has 12 ports where my devices connects directly, they are all on Vlan 1 and they all work perfectly. on Port 12 I have a dlink router that is connected to a cable modem. the dlink router has an Ip address of 192.168.0.20,I created a second vlan (vlan2) and enabled dhcp relay on it. then I assigned port 9 on the switch to (vlan2),my laptop which is connected to port 9 seems to get an ip address fine and able to ping only some devices on my network (vlan1) and is not able to,go out to the internet.
