I have issue with traffic passing between same security level interfaces. I want to control traffic between same security level interfaces with ACL. Even no restriction, traffic does not go through. [code]
I tried to access server from THREE network to web server at FOUR network I have no response. In sh xlate output it shows "PAT Global 10.124.104.254 (28889) Local 10.124.103.1(2922) " I am not sure what else should I do. I add both same-security-level commands and it is the same.

I have ASA 5585 with SSP20. I want to enable same security level subinterfaces (routed mode) to communicate with each other.
I have put below command at global level but somehow it is not happening.
hostname(config)# same-security-traffic permit inter-interface
Do I also need to check for NATing or some other things apart from above command?

On a Cisco ASA 5520. I have 2 interfaces that are the same security level. I need hosts on 1 of these interfaces to be able to get to a specific IP and port on the other but I DON'T want to blanket enable 'same-security-traffic permit inter-interface" I have added an ACL inbound on the interface allowing the desired traffic and inbound on the other for return traffic and it simply doesn't work.

I have 2 dmz interfaces(dmz1 and dmz2) with security level 50. I am able to ping the hosts on dmz2 from dmz1. I am running a service on a dmz2 host on port 82 but i am not able to access that service from dmz1. Also, i have an inside interface at security lever 99 which is able to access that service.
Also, i have defined the following command to allow same security level communication.
same-security-traffic permit inter-interface

We have two multilayer switches and only one ASA 5520. I'd like to connect ASA in the way described on the picture: each redundant interface includes two physical ones, which are connected to different switches
My question is what kind of link it is necessary to have between switches to make this idea work? I'd have subinterfaces like Re1.100, Re2.200 and so on for my traffic.
I understand that correct design approach is to have two redundant firewalls with failover but we cannot purchase the second one yet.

I'm trying to implement some best practices for ASA running on Software Release 8.2 and had a question about the default security-level behavior. Let's say I have 3 interfaces...
-inside (security-level 100)
-dmz (security-level 50)
-outside (security-level 0)
I have an ACL on the inside interface allowing http access to anywhere. Because of the ACL, the implicit higher to lower security level access is nullified. Correct?
I do NOT have any ACL on the dmz interface applied. So, would the servers in the dmz be allowed outbound access to the Internet due to the default higher to lower security level behavior?

I'm facing a problem with two vlans. Each vlan has internet access by NAT.
In each vlan there is at least one server, who should be accessible from the other vlan and vice versa.
The function "same-security-traffic permit inter-interface" doesn't work, because NAT control is in place - so an expert.
Some experts told me it's not possible to route back out the same interface, and also not route back out the seperate subinterfaces as well.

Verifying the operation of the ASA when configured with Global access rules. Does the global rule overide the interface security levels? According to the ASA order of operations, the interface specific rule get's processed first and then the global rules, but It does not say anything about interface security levels. Observing an ASA in production that has global rules configured I see that an interface with a security level of 50 that has no rules applied to it, passing traffic to the outside interface (security level 0) drops the traffic. Syslog shows that it hits the global access rule implicit deny. Does the implicit permit any to any less secure interface not apply?

i have an ASA 5520 running ver 8.4(1). have attached my interface config below and need to do the following, NAT traffic coming on GigabitEthernet0/2.101 to GigabitEthernet0/1, i.e. packets with destination 10.21.110.25 will be forwarded to 10.11.21.25, will a nat (Production,Advocate_MPLS) static ... statement work ?

We have an ASA 5520 which is in multiple context mode. We are trying to pass traffic from the outside interface to the dmz interface. We have a /27 public ip range. We need a small amount of those addresses to be in the DMZ for SIP servers specifically. The rest of the addresses are NAT'd to the inside interface.So i created the outside interface GigabitEthernet0/0 with 1.2.3.192/28 Inside Interface GigabitEthernet0/2 with 192.168.20.0/24 DMZ interface on GigabitEthernet0/2.1 with 1.2.3.208/29 So all i want to do is route traffic that comes in the outside interface and out to the DMZ interface for the 1.2.3.208/29 subnet. I set the gateway address as 1.2.3.214 which is the DMZ interface address on the ASA.

Our ASA 5520 firewall is running 8.0(4) IOS.I have an internal L2L VPN terminating on my firewall (from an internal remote site) on ENG interface.With the default "sysopt connection permit-vpn" command enabled, VPN traffic is allowed to bypass the ENG interface acl.The security level on the ENG interface is set at 50.The security level on the destination interface PRODUCTION is set at 40.Inbound VPN traffic bypasses ENG interface acl and since higher-to-lower security level allows VPN traffic to flow freely from ENG to PRODUCTION, it seems the only place to check/filter VPN traffic is an ACL placed on the PRODCTTION interface and set at INBOUND (outbound VPN traffic).

I have a Cisco ASA 5520 running 8.2.2 with the VPN Plus license. I am wondering what is the max number of sub-interfaces you can have on a physical interface. I know on the 5505 it was 20 sub-interfaces if you were running the Security Plus license. What is the magic number for the 5520. I have hit 20 sub-interfaces on gi0/1 interface and now I am starting to run into problems with sub-interface #21.

I have two virtual interfaces on my ASA 5520:
GigabitEthernet0/1.338 172.30.0.81/28
GigabitEthernet0/1.345 172.30.0.129/28
I have the security levels for both set to 50 and in the ASDM I have checked off "Enable traffic between two or more interfaces which are configured with same security levels"
But now the need has arisen that we allow each subnet to be routable to each other for SMTP traffic, how can I accomplish this?

We have been testing out IPv6 configurations on a 5520 running 8.2(4). We have assigned EUI-64 prefix addresses to sub-interfaces to allow clients to auto-configure there IPv6 IPs and it works correctly. I used ASDM to do the original configuration and noticed that there were two different ways to do it, both of which seem to work. I can add a prefix under the Interface IPv6 Addresses dialog box and check EUI64 or I can add it under the Interface IPv6 Prefixes. But using the two methods yields two different interface configurations:

We have a Cisco ASA 5520 and in order to conserve public IP addresses and configuration (possibly) can we use the same public IP address for a static NAT with two different interfaces? Here is an example of what I'm refering too where 10.10.10.10 would be the same public IP address.

One line of an ACL was changed on an ASA 5520 (primary) and a wr mem was issued to save the change. It appears that when the wr mem was executed, the interfaced on the standby ASA bounced. Configurations have been saved in the past without the result of what's in the log entry..

We have to enable FIPS 140-2 on our ASA5520's for all our IPSEC VPN connections. We currently have failover on our 5520's. I found a lot of information out there but some seems to conflict one another.What are the things I need to look out for - caveats? Does the clients that connect to the VPN had to use different clients once the FIPS was enabled.Do we need to recreate logical interfaces for each physical interface we have?

I have ASA 5505 that has two inside security level 100 interfaces and an outside interface.On the inside interface we have corporate domain subnet with DC and 30 hosts. On the inside2 interface I have few servers that runs specific application important for our business needs, and dumb terminals that are connected to them.I have a laptop user that periodically needs access from our corporate vlan1 to one of the servers on inside 2 vlan via remote desktop or some other remote viewer client,so he can view reports etc.I have enabled same-security-traffic intra-interface command and added nat exempt command pointing specific laptop host machine to that specific server.
Now my main concern is regarding security. This user carries his laptop home, browses the web, puts USB memory, and you can imagine how this machine is susceptible to all kind of malicious software. Inside2 vlan is very important and until now it has been a very secure environment.This is no longer the case since all traffic between this inside sec level 100 vlan host and corresponding inside2 sec level 100 server is now allowed because of the enabled same level interface traffic and nat exemption rule. Do I have another solution that would allow communication based on just a tcp port number for this host? Something like port forwarding from outside to inside Vlan interface?

We have an ASA5520 firewall, IOS 8.0(4), running in routed mode with an operational Cisco 2821 router to ASA-5520 L2L IPsec VPN.:All Internet searches explain how to enable a L2L IPsec VPN from the LOWER security-level interface to a HIGHER security-level interface- and this is how our setup is configured and it is operational and working fine.:We now have a need to setup another L2L IPsec VPN tunnel on the same firewall BUT this time traffic will be arriving on the HIGHER security-level interface destination is to a LOWER security-level interface.:Is it possible to enable a L2L IPsec VPN tunnel between a HIGHER security-level interface to a LOWER security-level interface?

Do I need the security plus license to do HA with two 5520's?I was told by our purchasing department that the 5520 was supposed to be able to do HA out of the box, but when I look I see only the VPN + license. Does that mean I can download the security plus license? Or do I even need it on the 5520.

I have a DMZ (50) from where I need to allow some protocols to inside zone (level 0). I am doing that with ACL, but after having done that the implicit security level rule to lower level (outsite level 0) is not working anymore, I guess by the implicity deny after the acl. I'd need allow traffic to the outside zone from DMZ, as well as the inspect traffic from the inside one. Is there anyway to have both ACL and Security levels?
If not, what do I need to do to just allow some protocols going to higher level and leave the higher-to-lower traffic inspected allowed, same schema as we have with security levels.

We have an ADSM (version 5.2(3) ) . In ASA ( version 7.2(3)) we are working with routing, access restriction and configuring IPSEC vpn with integration to our AD. We need to get two diferent profiles: one for networking administrators, who are going to manage routing, acls and have the root for ASA, and the other profile is going to be for the vpn administrators. As I read from the ASDM 6.0 user guide is posible define command privilege level. So do you consider posible to define a particular level for all the command related with ipsec vpn (Create, Modify and Delete) and asociate that particular level with the user for vpn administration.

I have been monitoring the alarm summary but have been off couple days and i see one of my controllers is down. Getting critical level security and message is port is down on the controller, condition link down. The other issue is config difference found between NCS and Contoller, I tried getting them to sync together but still getting the same message.

Ive got a virtualised firewall running 3 security contexts in routed mode. What am experiencing is that i cannot connect to an OUTSIDE host through the security contexts. From the firewall itself i cannot ping the directly attached host on the OUTSIDE interface but i can ping the directly attached host on the INSIDE interface. When i reload the firewall box, the first ping to the OUTSIDE host would be successful but subsequent pings fail and thus total connectivity is lost.
I even tried upgrading to ASA version 8.4(1) but still the same.

I've just started a CCNA course and my lack of knowledge has me a bit stuck. My network is comprised of Cisco components and I'm semi familiar with them just from reading and looking through options. I currently am using a Cisco ASA 5520 on my network and I am trying to join another network via one of the interfaces. My network is 192.168.0.0 255.255.0.0 and my inside interface is 192.168.1.1 255.255.0.0. I enabled a second interface using a static ip of 10.0.0.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.128. Connected to that interface, I have a Fortigate firewall at 10.0.0.2 255.255.255.128. I can ping just fine from the Fortigate network to the 10.0.0.1 interface on the Cisco ASA 5520 network, but I can not ping the 10.0.0.1 interface (or anything past it) on the ASA 5520 from any computer on the Cisco network. I've read that ACL's and NAT have to be done as well as enabling traffic between interfaces with the same security levels. (both interfaces have security levels of 100 and the option is checked to allow traffic).
Note: each network has it's own internet connection. The connection is to share information on servers on both networks with each other.

I use 3 interfaces on an ASA 5510. First interface is Lan, Second interface is Outside, Third interface is ADSL The Outside interface is used for VPN L2L and smtp traffic. (Leased line on router managed by ISP)The Adsl interface is used for Http traffic.
