I have ASA 5585 with SSP20. I want to enable same security level subinterfaces (routed mode) to communicate with each other.
I have put below command at global level but somehow it is not happening.
hostname(config)# same-security-traffic permit inter-interface
Do I also need to check for NATing or some other things apart from above command?
I have issue with traffic passing between same security level interfaces. I want to control traffic between same security level interfaces with ACL. Even no restriction, traffic does not go through. [code]
I tried to access server from THREE network to web server at FOUR network I have no response. In sh xlate output it shows "PAT Global 10.124.104.254 (28889) Local 10.124.103.1(2922) " I am not sure what else should I do. I add both same-security-level commands and it is the same.
I have 2 dmz interfaces(dmz1 and dmz2) with security level 50. I am able to ping the hosts on dmz2 from dmz1. I am running a service on a dmz2 host on port 82 but i am not able to access that service from dmz1. Also, i have an inside interface at security lever 99 which is able to access that service.
Also, i have defined the following command to allow same security level communication.
same-security-traffic permit inter-interface
On a Cisco ASA 5520. I have 2 interfaces that are the same security level. I need hosts on 1 of these interfaces to be able to get to a specific IP and port on the other but I DON'T want to blanket enable 'same-security-traffic permit inter-interface" I have added an ACL inbound on the interface allowing the desired traffic and inbound on the other for return traffic and it simply doesn't work.

I'm trying to implement some best practices for ASA running on Software Release 8.2 and had a question about the default security-level behavior. Let's say I have 3 interfaces...
-inside (security-level 100)
-dmz (security-level 50)
-outside (security-level 0)
I have an ACL on the inside interface allowing http access to anywhere. Because of the ACL, the implicit higher to lower security level access is nullified. Correct?
I do NOT have any ACL on the dmz interface applied. So, would the servers in the dmz be allowed outbound access to the Internet due to the default higher to lower security level behavior?
I'm facing a problem with two vlans. Each vlan has internet access by NAT.
In each vlan there is at least one server, who should be accessible from the other vlan and vice versa.
The function "same-security-traffic permit inter-interface" doesn't work, because NAT control is in place - so an expert.
Some experts told me it's not possible to route back out the same interface, and also not route back out the seperate subinterfaces as well.
We are going to deploy a active/active setup of 2 ASA 5585's. Here we will implement a concept of security zones through context's where different services will be firewall through a separate firewall context. will a security context consume 1 or 2 licenses because we are running in a Active/active setup? Right now I got completely confused when my manager asked me that question.I would say that we only use on security context license - but since we are running in a active/active setup - even though the other instance is standby - will it consume a context license? We are using ASA OS 8.4.x.

According to the ASA order of operations, the interface specific rule get's processed first and then the global rules, but It does not say anything about interface security levels. Observing an ASA in production that has global rules configured I see that an interface with a security level of 50 that has no rules applied to it, passing traffic to the outside interface (security level 0) drops the traffic. Syslog shows that it hits the global access rule implicit deny. Does the implicit permit any to any less secure interface not apply?

Today I run into a problem with enabling ICMP traffice between two inside interfaces on ASA5510 (version 8.2). I tried to ping from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.2.2 Failed. But I can visit outside websites or ping from any of the two addresses above to 8.8.8.8 So I checked the configuration shown as follow

I'm monitoring 2 ASA 5585-x firewalls (in HA mode) using Cisco Prime LMS 4.2.1. The LMS server is connected to the firewalls on the inside interface.
My issue is that I keep on receiving Alert messages on Fault Monitor for both ASA firewalls listing all interfaces (except inside interface) as unresponsive.
My thought is that since the LMS server is not able to ping other active interfaces, it generates these alert messages.
My query is whether I'm thinking right? If yes, how can I prevent these unwanted messages from showing in Fault Monitor?
I can't seem to enable in ASA with a non-15 privilege level user configured in ACS 4.2 (tacacs).When I enable in IOS device, it enables and "show privilege" shows level 10 as expected. ACS should be configured correctly as it works fine with IOS. User is not set with explicit settings. Group is set with "max enable level" 15 and "shell exec priv level" 15. The enable password is set to the internal ACS PAP password. Works fine in IOS.When I enable in ASA, it fails to enable, and ACS log says "Tacacs+ enable privilege too low". I suspect that ASA tries to enable into level 15 explicitely. If I try to issue "enable 10" command in ASA it says: Enabling to privilege levels is not allowed when configured for AAA authentication. Basically TELNET is following the rules ( priv=0 not allowed to access enable ) but SSH is not following the rules ( both priv=15 and priv=0 cannot access the command ) is there a way from blocking somes users from login in completely?
I have ASA 5505 that has two inside security level 100 interfaces and an outside interface.On the inside interface we have corporate domain subnet with DC and 30 hosts. On the inside2 interface I have few servers that runs specific application important for our business needs, and dumb terminals that are connected to them.I have a laptop user that periodically needs access from our corporate vlan1 to one of the servers on inside 2 vlan via remote desktop or some other remote viewer client,so he can view reports etc.I have enabled same-security-traffic intra-interface command and added nat exempt command pointing specific laptop host machine to that specific server.
Now my main concern is regarding security. This user carries his laptop home, browses the web, puts USB memory, and you can imagine how this machine is susceptible to all kind of malicious software. Inside2 vlan is very important and until now it has been a very secure environment.This is no longer the case since all traffic between this inside sec level 100 vlan host and corresponding inside2 sec level 100 server is now allowed because of the enabled same level interface traffic and nat exemption rule. Do I have another solution that would allow communication based on just a tcp port number for this host? Something like port forwarding from outside to inside Vlan interface?

We have an ADSM (version 5.2(3) ) . In ASA ( version 7.2(3)) we are working with routing, access restriction and configuring IPSEC vpn with integration to our AD. We need to get two diferent profiles: one for networking administrators, who are going to manage routing, acls and have the root for ASA, and the other profile is going to be for the vpn administrators. As I read from the ASDM 6.0 user guide is posible define command privilege level. So do you consider posible to define a particular level for all the command related with ipsec vpn (Create, Modify and Delete) and asociate that particular level with the user for vpn administration.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a question with regard to setting up the ID firewall on the ASA 5585 in a single forest, multiple domain windows network.Currently I have a semi-operational IDF at the top level but can't find users on the lower other domains, here is the setup:I have 3 domains.

Both domains have a two way parent-child trust and I can look for users in AD Users/Computer on both domains. I initially setup the ASA to look at domain1.test.com using an LDAP aaa-server per the IDF instructions, and then proceeded to configure the ad-agent. I installed the adagent on the domain1.test.com domain controller configured the settings on that system and had no problem adding users to the firewall and getting functionality within domain1. I looked to see if I could see domain 2 and domain 3 users and found none. I went ahead and added the domain2 system to the adagent on the DC and the system says that it is up, but when I search for users is not pulling them from domain2. Instead, it shows domain1 users as domain2user1. I also configured another adserver in the ASA to search ldap on domain 2 to no avail.The cisco documentation states the following:•Before you configure even a single domain controller machine using the adacfg dc create command, ensure that the AD Agent machine is first joined to a domain (for example, domain J) that has a trust relationship with each and every domain (for example, domain D[i]) that it will monitor for user authentications (through the domain controller machines that you will be configuring on the AD Agent machine). Single Forest, Multiple Domains—All the domains in a single forest already have an inherent two-way trust relationship with each other. Thus, the AD Agent must first be joined to one of the domains, J, in this forest, with this domain J not necessarily being identical to any of the domains D[i] corresponding to the domain controller machines. Because of the inherent trust relationship between domain J and each of the domains D[i], there is no need to explicitly configure any trust relationships.Reading that it sounds like it should just work. I had everything properly configured before I installed the adagent, but I'm guessing that there is a chance that you can't have the adagent on the top level DC and get to communicate with the lower level domains.
Does the 5585X supports BGP ? What if someone wants to use Antivirus + IPS feature in that . I have seen IPS modules for 5585X but looks like the antivirus module is not avaliable for 5585X

As firewall is working in transparent mode, we have bridge IP address for context C1 10.1.1.1 and for context C2 10.2.2.1.
I have added default routed for context C1 10.1.1.2 .It is in the outside of asa and SVI on switch.For the other context C2 10.2.2.2.

I have a pair of ASA 5585 configured with 2 contexts, C1 & C2, C1 is active on ASA-1 & C2 is active on ASA-2 i did failover test, ping was initiated to host residing behind ASA-1 in context C1 i powered of ASA-1 then both context became active on ASA-2, however during this failover.i saw 4 ping packets drop..

I upgraded to 9.1 and ASDM 7.11-52. (Also did not work before I upgraded) I can ping the managment 0 interface and can tftp data to and from it. Also unable to telnet to the management interface.
