Cisco Firewall :: ASA 8.2 To 8.4 Automatic Config Conversion

I know that configuration in 8.2.x and 8.4.x is different in terms of NAT and object groups.
I just want to know is it possible to do a direct upgrade from 8.2.3 to 8.4.x ?Secondly, will ASA automatically convert all the configuration from 8.2 to 8.4 format during the reboot after the upgrade?

I have 8.2 configuration that works:
global (inside) 1 192.168.1.1
nat (outside) 1 access-list Servers outside
static (inside,outside) 10.16.0.0 10.1.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0

It is remote monitoring ASA, so I need to nat user networks (10.1.x.y, 10.2.x.y) to something that I can use (10.16.x.y, 10.17.x.y...)
Also, since it my device, I have them configure snmp and syslog server on client's network to use 192.168.1.1, so I have dynamic NAT for two SNMP servers and static NAT for one of them (which is syslog server).
create 8.4 version, so I can apply it? I tried few things, packet tracer shows that they are NATed, but I have only Denc packets, because hosts see request coming from my public IP...

I am in the process of migrating a production firewall from PIX 6.3 to ASA 8.4(2). This is going to be a complete firewall rebuild and I will not be upgrading the configs because they have become out of date and very bloated. I am in the process of converting the NAT commands.[code] I am hoping these commands would be enough to replicate the previous functionality. I removed all the static identity NATs because NAT control is no longer in place so those rules are not required. Additionally I didn't re-create the rules that had NAT ID 0 or 1 because it didn't look like they were doing anything. correct way to do the static NAT commands at the bottom.

We have three Cisco ASA 5520 with 8.2 code in each tower. There are many configuration on the device hence we are using ip to Name to identify the naming conversion. Out of three one firewall naming conversion is not working, I mean after adding name for a IP it is not reflecting vpn tunnels or access lists or Nat config.

We are in the process of migrating to the ASA service modules on both our 6509E switches from our current FWSM. We have used the Cisco conversion tool and applied that to the service module. When viewing the context in ASDM we are unable to view the object names in the right hand pane.
On the FWSM I would see the following under Network Objects:
Network Objects
- JQ-Test
- JQ-Test2
- JQ-Test3
Network Object Group
+ JQ Group
- JQ-Test
- JQ-Test2
- JQ-Test3
Now I have run the conversion tool and applied that to the ASA's I now get the following results.
Network Objects
- 10.1.1.1
- 10.2.2.2
- 10.3.3.3
Network Object Group
+ JQ Group
- 10.1.1.1
- 10.2.2.2
- 10.3.3.3
I am aware that the naming convention on the ASA's are different to the FWSM as you can no longer use the "name 1.1.1.1 JQ-Test1" format but I was hoping that the conversion tool would do this for me.
Is there any way I can get the names of the object back without having to script something that takes the old FWSM format and convert it into an ASA format?

Is there a newer tool for current versions of Checkpoint to ASA 8.4? I notice a lot of similarity between checkpoint and 8.4 now, but I still have to do it all line by line which has become a PITA.

in the ASA Migration Guide for Version 8.3 says about real ip address: "All of the access-listcommands used for these features are automatically migrated unless otherwise noted"
But my ACL's have not been migrated to real ip address. In my migration log:
INFO: NAT migration completed. Real IP migration logs: No ACL was changed as part of Real-ip migrationWhy?So, do I have to migrate them manually?

Is it possible to automatically shutdown the OUTSIDE interface on a Cisco ASA 5520 in case of intrusion?.
In my opinion if there is an attempt of intrusion, just the device would stop it. If it cannot detect it, how can the device recognize the event and so shutdown the interface?. Am I correct?

I have been told that if an access list is created with the suffix _access_in, that if the preifx is the name of an interface, then that access list is automatically bound to that interface, even if there is no explicit command doing that. I looking at the config of an ASA 5550.
example:
Interface is Production
access list is called Production_access_in.
Is that access list automatically bound to the Production interface, even though it does not show up in any other commands?

I am trying to use the built in feature of Cisco ASA 5510 smart call home feature with the purpose of automatic backup creation by email. I found the configuration [URL]. I already configured the said instructions but when I send a test email it says it cannot contact the email server. Below is the error that I am getting from our ASA. I am new to firewall.

I have a strange issue which happened to me last weekend with two ASA 5515X on version 8.6(1)2. There was a planned power shutdown which only affected the primary firewall. Failover was configured and running successfully. The configuration was also saved after every change made. After power was shut and primary firewall went off the secondary took over like it should but unfortunately all configuration was gone. We immediately powered on the primary again but also this one lost the configuration.
While reconfiguring the firewall we ran into another problem. The devices won't pair although it was the correct configuration. After three times removing and adding the same failover configuration the devices accepted the failover and worked together again.
I went through the bug toolkit and white papers regarding ASA 5515x and this particular version but were not able to find anything.

I am configuring an ASA5540 firewall for a client, only difference to usual being that it is to run in Transparent mode. I have looked through for an EAL4 transparent firewall config guide but found nothing and therefore assumed that the usual one would be used.The clients security bod has now come back and insisted MAC filtering should be used but I can find no reference of this anywhere. Does MAC filtering is required to make a transparent box EAL4 compliant and if so where I can find documentation supporting this?

I am converting one PIX config (in 6.2) format to 8.4 format manually.I am stuck at the following statements.

nat (inside) 0 access-list 101

My understanding from the old config file was that any traffic coming from source 10.130.101.2 to destination 10.132.102.0 would NOT be translated and this shall remain the same in 8.4.How can I rewrote the NAT commands?

Customer has a ASA5540 at their main location and need a new ASA5500 for a DR site.
Can I simply take a config file from an ASA5540 and easily drop it on an ASA5545-X or what ever?
They are going to be using it as a VPN concentrator primarily.
Or are there going to be issues since the 5540 is running 8.4(5) and the 5545-X? Or if they upgrade to 9,0(1) or higher, then they should be the same?

We just changed over to Comcast Business and after changing the outside interface to new IP and setting static route. I have access to internet and everythig appears to be good, However asdm will never fully load, alway stuck at 17% or 77%, and I always see "parsing running config".
When I do a show run it will not fully load either, always stop at certain out put. 5 seconds after pulling the Comcast cable out both asdm and running config will load fine.

I m trying to set my friewall in my network. The network is very simple. I have my router in 192.168.16.1 255.255.255.0 (mac-address 58-98-35-2a-4c-39) I have my switch in 192.168.16.26 255.255.255.0 (mac-address 00-19-99-5d-1f-43) and i have my firewall ASA between the router and the switch in 192.168.16.250 255.255.255.0 (mac-address 64-9e-f3-ba-28-c9)
So i need to configure 3 interface in my ASA.
- OUTSIE e0/0(I call it INTERNET)
- INSIDE e0/1(I call it LAN)
- MANGEMENT m0/0(I call it MANAGEMENT)

But with this config when I plug the firewall, i dont have access to internet anymore.

I have two ASA5510 configured in an active/standby failover configuration. Everything is working well, but I would like to remove DMZ2 as it is no longer needed. On my DMZ2 interface, I have removed the security level and the IP address and shutdown the interface. However, when I do a "show failover" DMZ2 is still showing up. I would like to remove it completely so that failover isn't even "monitoring" this interface. What command am I missing or what do I need to do to completely remove this interface from this "show failover" listing? [code]
