Cisco Firewall :: ASA5510 - Connect 2 Internal Networks
Apr 26, 2011
We recently got a Cisco ASA 5510 Security Appliance and I have some general question.
We have 1 T1 internet connection, and we have 2 internal networks. These 2 internal networks currently hav access to the internet. I am having issues with the 2 internal networks being able to communicate with each other.

I've got an ASA5510 with an IPS/IDS module. Because of a merger, I've got two 10.10.10.x networks (West and Central). I'd like all West traffic to be IPS checked before going into Central. Once it goes into Central, it's out of my hands. Can I set up NAT to accomplish this?
Again, the traffic flow would be from West (10.10.10.1) through the ASA/IPS, and then to Central (10.10.10.1).
Is this possible? If not, do I need another router?

I have an ASA5510 running 8.2 code and I have over 200 static nats from the outside to the inside interface and that is how I expose our systems to the Internet. If this inside interface fails we also have a bypass interface that also terminates on the internal network but I am not sure how the nats will behave given they are statically mapped to the inside.

I've a question about VPN IPSEC on ASA5510
In the LAN network , we use a DHCP on a Windows2003Server. Is it Possible to Configure the remote VPN Clients to use this DCHPserver throughout the VPN IPSEC and Assigned Automatically IP when the connection is done?

Cisco ASA 5510 directly facing the internet on E0/0 (1 Public IP only) with internal LAN on E0/1. Exchange 2010 OWA working fine with ACL and NAT rules configured.Problem:
•1. Cannot publish internal web servers to outside, have tried PAT.
•2. Have multiple web servers to publish with all on one protocol (HTTP) to a single public IP which I don’t know if it’s possible on a ASA.
•3.When SSL VPN is configured with Local user database, connecting from Anyconnect client gives a certificate error. Upon viewing the certificate it points to the internal mail server.

I am new to Cisco ASA and have been configuring my new firewall but one thing have been bothering. I cannot get internal networks and routing between them to work as I would like to. Goal is to set four networks and control access with ACL:s between those.
1. Outside
2. DMZ
3. ServerNet1
4. Inside
ASA version is 9.1 and i have been reading on two different ways on handling IP routing with this. NAT Exempt and not configuring NAT at all and letting normal IP routing to handle internal networks. No matter how I configure, with or without NAT I cannot get access from inside network to DMZ or from ServerNet1 to DMZ. Strange thing is that I can access services from DMZ to Inside and ServerNet1 if access list allows it. For instance DNS server is on Inside network and DMZ works great using it. [code]

We recently changed locations and acquired a new circuit from our provider. They also connected our remote branch office to our main office through MPLS. Now, as I understand it, the branch office basically connects back to the main office through our providers network (MPLS). We have a new router at the branch office which has a gateway of 192.168.1.225. The clients in that office have IP's of 192.168.1.96 - 100, using the gateway of 192.168.1.225.
The main office network is 192.168.0.0 (Gateway of 192.168.0.1)
At this end (Main office), I also have a new Cisco 2900 provided by the ISP, with port 0/0 for the outside connection (connected to the 0 port on my ASA 5505). The ASA's port 1 obviously running into my network hub. The provider tells me that port 0/1 on the 2900 is or should be used to connect the branch office back to here and has an IP of 192.168.0.225, as that's how the provider provisioned it. So, I plug that into the ASA's Ethernet port 0/2. And I'm assuming they have a route setup either on the 2900 or the router in the branch office so that 192.168.1.225 can reach me here at 192.168.0.0.
There is already a static route setup on the ASA: (192.168.1.0 255.255.255.255 192.168.0.225 1). As soon as I plug in the cable, the IP phones at the branch office work, but they can't access the internet or any resources in the main office. My questions are:
1. Shouldn't I be able to just go straight from the 0/1 port on the Cisco 2900 to my hub. At first I was plugging right into the ASA, but I don't think I need to do that, why go from the branch office through my ASA to access resources and then back out the ASA for internet. If they're already coming from 192.168.1.225, through the MPLS network, then they should go right to my network and then back out the ASA.
2. They have to route through the ASA first, in which case, do I need to setup another VLAN for that branch network in conjunction with a static route? I can ping the router and hosts in the branch office through the ASA only!
Below is the running sanitized config:

Currently my ASA5510 has a 64MB internal flash. Does the ASA require a higher capacity flash for an IOS upgrade from 7.2(x) to 8.2(x)? The Cisco Release Notes does not state any internal flash requirement, but just wanted to double check.

I am currently managing an ASA5510 using ASDM through the management port but I would like to manage the ASA through the internal port.
My concern is that I thought I remembered reading someplace that if you setup an internal port for management that it can't be used for anything else. Is this correct?
I only configured one internal port and it is the path to my LAN. I would hate to configure the port for management only to find that I disconnected my firewall from my internal network in the process. Can I use my one and only configured internal port for both ASA management and route from my LAN thru the ASA firewall?
I currently have the management port set to 192.168.1.1 and my internal interface is 10.1.1.1. If I open ASDM and connect thru the management port and select Configuration/Device Management/Management Access/ASDM/HTTPS/Telnet/SSH
select "ADD"
select access type "ASDM/HTTPS"
select interface "internal"
IP Address "10.1.1.0"
Mask "255.255.255.0"
Will that give me access to ASA management thru my internal network but cripple my network access to the ASA?

I'm usually not working with this product, but this is what I'm trying to do.I have 2 internal networks setup on our Cisco ASA 5505 firewall. (not done by me, I'm a new to this product)I'm trying to access a server on one network from a PC located on the other internal network. (preferable through the web gui)When I try "Packet Tracer" from interface "Trust4" it fails on the NAT phase.(Source ip: 10.0.4.99, Destination ip: 10.0.6.99)
When I check the NAT rule, it says:

I am tasked with transferring all clients from one subnet to the other. I figure the nicest way to do this is to temporarily have the subnets talk to each other in an endeavour to avoid as much downtime as possible. The two internal subnets are:
192.168.0.0/24
192.168.43.0/24 (the intended migration network)
I am beating my head against the desk here as I dont seem to be getting anywhere after the changes I have made. The current configuration is as such:
ASA Version 8.2(5)
!
hostname ciscoasa
domain-name *****
enable password ***** encrypted
passwd ***** encrypted
names
[code]......
Upgrading the firmware is not really an option?

I am using ASA5510 and i want to know if it is possible to redirect http traffic to an internal proxy software. I explain : PC from the LAN use a internal proxy in their IE browser but some other PC doesn't use it.They are directy connected to the Internet using the Public IP from the WAN interface ( via NAT). Can we redirected this HTTP Traffic from the WAN interface to the Proxy in the LAN ?
Http Traffic will be routed like that : PC -> WAN interface -> Proxy -> WAN interface -> Internet In fact, can we create a rule saying : All http traffic which doesn"t come from the IP Proxy must be redirected toward proxy.

Currently a network consists of two subnets, one subnet is behind a ASA and the other behind a PIX, both connecting to the ISP's routers. If the PIX is retired, is it possible to create/consolidate the two networks protected by the ASA5510 with the default gateway being the ISP?
How can two private networks be protected by the ASA5510? One conceptual way is to create the VLANS on a layer 3 switch, on the "inside" interface of the ASA. In this senario what would the "inside" network's IP address? If the above is possible, how would natting occur?
Is there an efficient configuration to protect two networks protected by the 5510, other than creating a DMZ?
Is it possible to create two private networks with same level of security, 100 on a three network interface connections?

I have a cable modem, hub and two routers. One router is wireless and the computers on this router have an IP address of 10.1.x.x. The other is a wired router and the computers on this router have an IP address of 192.168.x.x. Computers on both networks have Internet access but can't talk to computers on the other router. What I'm wondering is instead of using 3 hardware devices (1 hub/2 routers), is there any router model that will allow me to setup two internal networks similar to what I have above. I just want to cut down on the equipment and power that I use with my current setup.

This appliance can't connect to their site to transmit data. Ricoh is telling me the problem is on our firewill. I have assigned the Ricoh appliance a static IP address in our network. Our firewall is a Cisco ASA 5510. I don't have much expereince with logging on the ASA, so I'm not sure what "teardown dynamic TCP translation from inside" means. Once their web session has started, moving to the "browse networks" feature for a share viewing requires them to authenticate once again - "authenitcation required". I'd like to configure the device so that authenticating to the windows file share will be attempted using the previously entered credentials.

I've cloned the configuration off one of my ASA5510's to another 5510 to use as a template for a new data center deploy. I have configured the new firewalls networks and rules, and of course changed the WAN IP config to its new setting.
I want to test the firewall in y office before I deploy it. How should I configure my Macbooks ethernet configuraiton to test the firewall?, as I have tried without success to connect to it.
Let's say that my WAN configuration is 134.5.169.98/255.255.255.224 with a static route of IP address 0.0.0.0, Netmask 0.0.0.0 and a gateway IP of 134.5.169.97.
I've tried setting the route to force all traffic through the interface (sudo route add 0.0.0.0/1 134.5.169.98), but that did not work either. A trace route to the external interface IP of the firewall (or the external IP of an expose server) get's a "no route to host" error.
I've tried many configurations and have not been able to access the internal servers/services/VPN at all.I've also tried with a cross over, and straight through cables.
What should I configure my macbooks network configuration as so I can connect directly to the WAN port to test external access to the internal servers/services and test the VPN client?

This only happens if I try to upgrade the image on the secondary to anything newer than 8.4.1 (I've tried with 8.4.1-11 and 8.4.2). The primary one run just fine with new images.
I don't have the exact error right now, as I need to do a screen capture from console. It's just a huge crash dump. Are there anything I might have missed during the upgrade? Should I cold-boot both the firewalls in the correct order?
