At random times, my internet will "drop" connection and will not download any packets, but I am still able to send packets. My Local Area Connection icon continues to say I am connected, my modem is fully functional, and my cables are good. I can get my internet back up and running for 10 minutes or so by disable and re-enabling my Network Connection. If I simply try the "repair", it gives me an error at the "Refreshing IP" step.I have done a full system scan for viruses and I am clean. My drivers are fully updated, I have disabled my firewalls, and still no luck. During the times when it is down, I can successfully ping my modem through CMD, but I get the time-out error if I ping a site, my default gateway, the DHCP Server, or the DMS Servers.I have made no changes to any major settings on my computer, nor has there been any recent additions/removals of any software.

I'm trying to relace my isp modem by a cisco 877 adsl router..
The internet part is already done is working fine... however... there is also an seperate pvc for the voice part.
The pvc is working with the MER protocol... the thing now is... when i'm trying to get an ip address by dhcp on the sub atm interface nothing happen..
I did an debug dhcp detail and see that the router is first sending correctly an dhcp discover, the isp is replying to this with an dhcp offer i see my ip address, subnet mask and gateway addresses however.. the router isn't replying anymore with an dhcp request... so nothing happens anymore..

I have an old White BT router (from the UK)
Also a 60m ethernet cable. It won't send a signal far enough to be picked up by an ethernet port on another computer at that distance via cable.
However, a modern Zyxel Router will chuck it through that length of cable OK
way to get the BT router (v1 or 1.5) to do this ?

i was trying to see each step taking in arp process in simulation mode of packet tracer using hostA,SW1,R1,SW2, hostB diagram.
In simulation mode , everything was flowing nicely till R1's arp resolves hostB's mac address. Then suddenly hostA starts sending icmp packet.
2 question; i thought hostA already sent the icmp to R1 once resolving R1's mac. What happened the icmp packet R1 received.why R1 didnt send the icmp to hostB after resolving hostB's mac.
2.nd question; after R1'arp resolves hostB mac, what triggers hostA send icmp packet cause in simulation mode there is no any signalling to hostA from R1 to do that.

just upgraded to a Linksys EA4500 wireless router at my small office from an old Netgear. My email now wont send messages out on either my IPhone or my laptop(Toshiba) while using the wireless network. If I turn off Wi-Fi on my IPhone, my email immediately sends the messages. What settings do I need to change? I have Comcast internet and one IMAP email account and one "Yahoo" email account

The router receives a packet with a destination of 172.16.1.130. which route will Router-C use to forward the packet? [code] The answer that the book give (Cisco's routing protocol and concepts) is: E however, and this is where i am confused, why isn't the answer A? This answer covers the left-most bit.172.16.1.0

I have a Linksys wireless router model WRT54G (not sure the exact model, it's not in front of me right now). It has worked flawlessly for the past several years, but for some reason has recently stopped working. I confirmed it's not a problem with the DSL Modem, as I can hard wire connect to my laptop and the internet works fine. It's clear something is wrong with the wireless router. I've tried unplugging, hitting the reset button on the back, and nothing has worked. My computer is able to recognize/locate the router and connect, it's just that I can't connect to the internet. One thing I've noticed under the wireless connection is that the computer is able to "send" packets, but not "receive." My experience is that this is always the case when I experience connection problems, but I have no idea what that means. I was going to call the Help Line, but I see it costs $30 which is likely more than my router is worth and probably 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of a new one so I am trying to troubleshoot myself.

I just upgraded from a WRTG 54 version 2 wireless router to the Linsksys E2500. The reason for the change is to send a stronger wireless signal strength further in my house. Setup was easy to my laptop and XBox 360 but my Samsung Internet TV is another story. I can get my tv to get the wireless signal but when I click on an app nothing but error messages. Often times it will say to check my dns settings but I am not that tech savvy and don't know what to do.

I am using Solawinds syslog and trying to get our Cisco routers send syslogs to our syslog server. I followed the procedure on Configuring Cisco Devices to Use a Syslog Server from [URL] Our Cisco swtches are all sending syslog messages but not the routers. I compared the config with our access switches but can't seem to find the problem:
Sample router config:
service nagleno service padservice tcp-keepalives-inservice tcp-keepalives-outservice timestamps debug datetime msec localtime show-timezoneservice timestamps log datetime msec localtime show-timezoneservice password-encryption!hostname WWF-RT1boot-start-markerboot-end-marker!security authentication failure rate 10 logsecurity passwords min-length 8logging buffered 4096logging rate-limit all 10logging console critical!aaa new-model!!
[Code] .......
is there a command that prevents the router from sending the syslog to the server?

I get 10Mbps download, and 1Mbps upload. I play on wire, not wireless!I have a WRT54G2 router, and I've had it working for around 2 years now. I've been gaming(Unreal Tournament 2004) with it and now-a-days I've been getting packet loss and it is super annoying. I keep getting owned during game play because I skip here and there and it lags sometimes. Also, the laptop upstairs that the family uses sometimes can't connect to the router, so I have to unplug then replug the router for the laptop to connect to the router. Is my router giving up? Its a G router, should I shift over to N anyways?

I have a new PC with the Windows XP 64-bit OS. When I attempt to connect it to my home network, it doesn't see the network, and other computers can't see it. The network card driver is a 1394 Net Adapter. The driver appears to be working correctly, but it's not getting packets in or out. The setup seems to be missing the required Q0S Packet Adapter, but Windows won't let me install it.

how to use a packet sniffer for a night school class, but lack a hub at home. I only have a BEFSR41 Cable/DSL Router with 4-port switch. Is there any safe way to use active sniffing methods? Would the "Mac Flooding" I've heard about work, or do I need to find some kind of ARP poisoning method?Unfortunately while I do recall using Etherpeek around 10 years ago, it was at a very basic level and I'm out of practice. Is there a way to make the switch act like a hub?

I seem to be having packet loss with the E4200V2 which is upgraded to the latest firmware as of today, 1/18/12
The application is accessing a security DVR which uses a RTSP / RTP stream. Of course this requires certian ports to be forwarded in order for this to work. This works flawlessly with a WRT310N or a Cisco 871 Router so I know the port forwarding is correct.
With the E4200V2 it works intermittently, I can replace EV4200V2 with either the Cisco 871 or the WRT310N and there are no issues.

A while ago I bought a WRT320N as a trade-in offer, unfortunately I had around 20% packet loss on my connection after I set it up. If running directly through my cable modem I had no connection issues at all.I was running the whole setup cabled, and have no peripherals using the wireless connection. The router was returned to the retailer for RMA, and in the end I got the purchase credited. My setup ISP: Dansk Kabel TV (danish provider for internet, TV etc.)Modem: Netgear CVD31T DOCSIS 3.0 compliant Cablemodem (I do not have access to the modem, as it is provided by the ISP. I have now bought an E2000, and set it up in the same manner as the previous router. This has returned the same problems I had with my previous router.Updating the firmware didn't make any difference.Using Pingtest.net as my test reference I get results like this.when connected directly to the modem I get 0% packet loss, max 20ms ping and jitter is 2-3ms.Have I been so unlucky to get 2 faulty routers in a row, or could there be some problems with Linksys routers and Netgear?I have unsuccessfully tried switching cables without any change, tried moving the router "far" away from the modem, monitors etc to see if there could be any interference from the wireless.

We have a remote site connected to ADSL line with a Cisco 887VA router attached. This has been working fine for the last couple of months. However, recently, the site have started to complain of performance issues (network slow, applications disconnecting, etc)Looking on the router, we can see evidence of packet loss/timeouts from a simple ping to the internet e.g. [code]
However, we have logged the fault with our service provider and they return all line tests as clear but what is particularly strange is that they also report “and the SNR Margins are well within threshold levels (Upstream 11.5 and Downstream 15.0)” which, unless I’m misunderstanding something, seems to be completely different from what the router itself is reporting. Is there a reason why the service provider’s stats for Noise Margin would appear to be so different from what the router is reporting?

Vista 64 Intel Pro 1000 with latest driver Here is a shot of the lagometer in COD Black Ops when all is good. I used to see this with my old WRT54GS and connected at 100Mbps Full Duplex or Half Duplex and I currently see this when connected through the E4200 at 100Mbps full or half duplex AND when connected via Gigabit via one of the 4 ports on the back of my cable modem, a Motorola SBG6580 [URL] This next screen capture is what happens when I try to connect via Gigabit thru the E4200. It either starts out like this right away or within 30 seconds to a minute this will start to occur. I believe the red spikes indicate packet loss. [URL]
