I have a situation where My 6513 chassis is covered by smart-net as are most of my line cards but my Supervisors - SUP2 is End of life - end of support - What will happen if i need config help - or a hardware issue with the supervisor ? anyone run into this ? - Yes I know you buy support on the chassis not the line card and If you buy support the whole chasis is covered.

We are looking forward to install a Cisco 6513 with IDSM-2 in each chassis in a VSS mode. Any experience with the configuration of the 6513 ? Also, lets assume I installed one active IDSM in each chassis with identical configuration... what happens when one of them fails ?

View 2 Replies View Relatedwe have a chassis 6513-E and a module WS-X6748-GE-TX, I'd like to know if could I put this module in any slot, since the documentation from Cisco says that any slot from a chassis 6500-E Series can support this module. And then in the documentation of WS-X6748-GE-TX says that this module is not compatible in the slots 1-8 of the 6513 chassis, only from 9th to 13th slots, in those slots from the 6513-E we already have 4x WS-X6748-GE-TX, and we'd like to know if could we put the module in the rest of the slots. The 6513, and 6513-E is kind of confusing.

Currently have a pair of 6509 chassis setup with VSS. Only have the Sup and two line cards in each chassis. Would like to replace with a new pair of 6504E chassis. Is it possible to fail one chassis at a time and migrate to the new 6504E?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI work for a non-profit agency and a donor gave us a generous donation of used Cisco equipment. One of the items is a SM-VAM2+. We tried it in a 7206VXR chassis with a NPE-G2 running 12.4(24)T6 and the router keeps barking that the SM-VAM2+ is not supported in the chassis. We have done searches on the Cisco web site and Google and there is no information regarding the SM-VAM2+ at all (all of the references are for the SA-VAM2+).
The question is if the SM-VAM2+ is supported on the 7206VXR with another version of IOS or what router supports the SM-VAM2+?
We are preparing to install a new switching Infrastructure at one of our sites. We have decided that we want to have two separate chassis as a core. My original idea was to purchase 2 - 4500 chassis and install 10Gb and 1GB line cards in each and use STP and HSRP to load balance between the two cores.
We had also contacted a vendor for thier recommendations and they came back with 2 6500 Chassis running VSS. I reviewed what VSS was as I had never heard of it and it looks to me basically to be real close to the same thing as Stacking. I didn't really want to have stacked Cores because I would like to have the flexibility to be able to take one core out and update the software or image, reboot, and such without effecting anything on the network. I can do that with the non-VSS approach but it looks like that would be more of a problem with VSS.
My question is, how to use VSS with the 6500's? How to take one of the VSS pairs off line and not effect normal network operations?
I just installed two of the HWIC-1GE-SFP cards in the CISCO3945 router but they are not recognized... I don't see any messages on the console output. I don't see them in the "show diag" command. I don't see new ports in the "show run" either... Is there some command I need to put in to activate them? Here is show version of my router:

Configuring a 4507R classic chassis with redundant Sup 6L-E? TAC told me the Supervisor 6LE was only supported on the 4507R+E or 4507R-E chassis but I have found in Cisco documentation several places that indicate that the Sup 6LE is supported in the classic chassis.

Suddenly UDLD detected an error and got into err disable, then this err disable didn't let the interface set to DOWN, and created a switch loop, then our Supervisor reloaded. I am experiencing 1 4548 module fail issue with one of my customer place. unfortunately they are having only 1 4507R+E chassis and 1 4548 module. however i have replaced the module 4548 and getting the same error even after replacing ...!! but they are having redudant X45-SUP6L-E tried by removing each at one time with no luck. Technician said: fans appear to be operational, BUT the only thing that appears abnormal is STAT light is amber (not sure what it means).
Also, if I compare the temperature from module 3 with module 2 (which doesn’t have an alert) is almost the same, this is why I think the fan is working fine, since module 3 is not hotter that module 2.
What I can do to reset this fan (chassis)?
I have inherited a 6509 VSS switch system as the network core and have the task of ensuring proper redundancy and redesign of the directly connected data center devices. One of the connected devices (WLC 4402) physically appears to be connected to both switches - the WLC is in the same rack as VSS-Chassis1 so I can trace the fiber from WLC port 1 to gi1/1/22, the other fiber from the WLC port 2 goes into the floor and presumably over to VSS-Chassis2 gi2/1/22 (there is fiber connected there, I have link lights on both sides, and the port channel, Po200, on the VSS switch which is configured on gi1/1/22 is also configured on gi2/1/22). My question pertains to the CDP neighbor output I get on the VSS switch: (truncated to include just the WLC) [code]
So my question, arising at least partly from the apparently misleading CDP information, is this: How can I confirm that the WLC is correctly dual homed to both core switches? (short of tracing the cable) I ask because there are several other devices (not WLCs) that need to have the dual homed connections confirmed.I tried a layer 2 trace route but for all macs associated with the WLC, the trace abborts with the error "Device has Multiple CDP neighbours on destination port."

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 4x 3110x switches in a Bladecenter H chassis and the stack cables are connected so that they are in a circle (IE, SW1 connects to SW2, SW2 connects to SW3, SW3 to SW4 and SW4 to SW1). Each of the switches physical 10GE port is trunked to a 6509. If I pull a 3110x switch out, does this network connectivity? Theoretically it should not?

we have some pairs of 6509-VSS, which partially have old (no more officially supported) 6509-Chassis.All linecards in the VSS are the same (Sup 720-10GE-3C, 67XX).
We now bought some new 6509-E-Chassis and want to change the old chassis by the new ones in a ISSU manner, that means:
1. putting the partner, which chassis changes, in redundancy mode, switch it off, exchange chassis (old "Catalyst 6509", new "Catalyst 6509-E")
2. inserting the line-cards exactly in the same slots and connecting all cables
3. switch on the new chassis, witing to come up in VSS
I'm not sure of having to set the switch number for VSS (is that in the Sup?; configuration? or part of the chassis-memory?)
I've looked up cisco for some hints, but don't found anything.
I have a faulty ASA5520 and I am not sure if I have a SMART net contract for it or not (I manage over 200+ ASAs). The problem is that the Serial Number sticker that is normally on the back of the ASA is missing. The ASA5520 is also faulty and doesn't power on so I cannot boot it up and run 'show ver' or similar. If I open the chassis there appears to be other Serial numbers on the Power Supply, and Motherboard etc but they do not seem to be the correct Chassis serial number i.e not in the right format, and if I put them into the Trade tool I get no results.
There must be another record of the serial numbers besides 1x sticker to the rear of the chassis that can fall off? How I can get the chassis serial when the device isn't booting. or (Cisco) is there a way to find the chassis serial number from the power or motherboard serial?
Is there a way of ascertaining whether my 5510's have 1 memory slot or 4 memory slots without having to open the chassis?
