Cisco :: Migrate From WLC4404 To WLC5508?
Jan 7, 2013
how to migrate from WLC4404 to WLC5508. I want to know your propositions.
I could replicate the configuration manually but there is a lot of confirugation menus and all. If both could be online and migrate the AP to the new one until there is none on the old one, it would be great.

how to set up support 802.11n on WLC4404 or WLC5508 in the 2.4Ghz? WLC4404 supports 802.11n? or support this protocol only in the brochures? I spent a few days, but did not get the result. I'm connected at speeds 65/130Mbit, but the real speed tests never exceeded 45Mbit. The AP from the test laptop is 7-10 meters.I tested the laptops with a Linksys AP E1200-EE ( 40Mhz, FastEthernet uplink port...)and received nearly 100Mbit!
At WLC5508 able to connect at speeds 150/300Mbit/c but only in the 5GHz band, but real speed tests never exceeded 70Mbit.In 2.4Ghz range I connected at speeds of 130/144Mbit/c, but actual measurements showed no more than the 45Mbit.
All tested with iperf and with site speedtest.net.
iperf -w64K -s
iperf -w64K -i 2 -t 300 -c x.x.x.x
Laptops: Asus (Atheros AR9002WB-1NG) and Sony (Advanced-N 6230).
My tests AP: 3501I-E and 1252AG-A
SW on WLC5508 7.2.110.0
AP tested in different variants - open system and WPA2+AES.

We have two Cisco Wireless Controller 4404 with the IOS Version 7.0.220.0 and a lot of access points (ca. 170). Now i wan't to reboot a group of Access points where i found over a filter..Or how can i reboot all the Access Points at the same time over the Controller Interface? Is it possible? I only found the option in the WebGui where i can reboot 1 Access Point at the same time with "hardware reset".

i have 2x WLC4404 they are in the same mobilitygroup and worked since a long time. Three days ago, ill upgraded one of them from 6.0.199.4 to 6.0.202.0. I have nearly 90 APs (1231,1242, different models)
The upgrade was successfull and i moved the APs from WLCA (6.0.199.4) to WLCB (6.0.202.0) almost all APs worked fine without 6 of them. This 6 APs cannot ping the AP-Manager-Interface from WLCB. But they can Ping the Router in this vlan, WLCA-AP-Manager and all APs in this subnet. They only cant get to the AP-Manager-interface from WLCB. Ping to Managementinterface of WLCB is also ok. Management and AP Manager are in different subnets. All APs and the AP-Manager-Interfaces from WLCA+WLCB are in the same subnet.
Switchportconfig and routing are ok. ive resetet the APs to default, checked switchport config, resetet switchport, power down ap for a while. ive tried many things, but nothing worked.I ever only can ping AP-Manager from WLCA, but not WLCB (again same subnet, and about 80 other APs work fine)
If i install a new AP on the same switchport, it works fine, without any issues. when i than unplug the "newAP" from this switchport and again connect the "oldAP" it can ping WLCA+WLCB and anything is fine.
Now i have the next and bigger problem nearly 15 of the APs that worked fine after upgrading, for now 3days+. Now they cannot ping the WLCB-AP-Manager-int too. And they dont failover to the WLCA with (6.0.199.4), i can reboot but they ever try to connect to WLCB. But they know both controllers.I only can get them to WLCA via ssh: capwap ap primary-base WLCAsname WLCAsmanagementIP..why the APs dont fail over if they dont reach WLCBsAP-Managerinterface?why i cannot ping WLCBs AP-Mana-Int from some APs.

We have a WLC 4404 with about 85 1121 and 1241 APs. - I just added 6 new 3501E with Antennas, and configured the a new SSID, but non of my clients can connect to any of the 3501s. One solution from a tech was to update the NIC drivers. I verified that all test clients are 802.11N and sometimes they find the 3501 but often they switch to another of the older and weaker 1121 or 1241s. On one test I had a 3501 just outside his room and his client nic was picking up a weak signal 2 floors up, then it would go to one 1 floor down. eventually we could get it to feed of the nearest 3501 but it would go back to another 1121 or 1241 soon thereafter,.

We currently have about 50 Cisco 1252 wireless access points running from a 4404 Wireless LAN controller. We need to order more APs, but of course the 1252s have been discontinued. Was assured by Cisco that the 1262 would work just fine with our WLC. I'm messing around with a trial 1262 and am running into problems. We hard-code the IP address, hostname, default gateway, and controller IP address in each of our access points. I did that with the new 1262 the same way I did with the 1252s:lwapp ap ip address lwapp ap ip default-gateway etc., etc. That didn't work. Then I tried doing the same thing using (not sure if this is the correct terminology...) the capwap commands.
The AP still doesn't show up on the WLC's GUI, though I can ping the AP from the WLC and I can ping the WLC from the AP.I also can't use a web browser to get into the access point's configuration tool. Do I understand correctly that the lightweight APs don't have the GUI?

How to disable dhcp proxy on controller and what is the impact of doing it in the middle? We tried once by giving 'config dhcp proxy disable' command but seeing virtual ip again.(likely it gets back to proxy mode). We also have ip helper address on the L3 interface. We have only external dhcp servers configured..

1)Whether we need to add this migration license in WCS before genrating XML file or
2)Before adding XML file in NCS we need to add this in NCS ..

convert a few connections from ADSL to FTTC but would like not to have to replace the Cisco 857 router already installed. To achieve this I would need to allocate one of the Ethernet ports as the WAN interface and configure PPPOE for authentication.

We setup both site-to-site VPN and Remote Access VPN client on VPN 3005 Concentrator. We want to migrate all the configs to the new ASA 5540. Do you recommend that we migrate all the configurations for VPN client first before setting up the site-to-site VPN on the ASA or it does not make any difference?

I am looking for the licensing and upgrade path for going from WCS 7.0 to PI 1.2.At present I have a WCS licensed for 200 APs which is managing one controller and 150 APs.I intend to use the Cisco Prime Upgrade Promotion to order R-W-PI12-M-K9 (WCS 7.0 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Migration) and L-W-PI12-100-M and L-W-PI12-100-M to match the number of licenses on the WCS.
Once Prime is installed I also want to manage another 50 devices, does that mean I have to purchase the Cisco PI 1.2 Base License and Software (R-PI12-Base-K9) and another 50 Lifecycle licenses, or will my existing 200 licenses from the upgrade suffice.

I have two router Cisco 887 with vpn site-to-site:
Site A:
crypto isakmp policy 1
encr 3des
authentication pre-share
crypto isakmp key ********* address 85.34.AAA.AAA
!
crypto ipsec transform-set strong esp-3des esp-md5-hmac
[code]....
I want to remove VPN configuration from the router and put VPN Configuration on Cisco ASA 5505.The scheme would be: ASA5505(vpn site-to-site) -> 887 -> INTERNET this for both sites. My problem is that I do not know what ip put on interface Outside of firewall. For example on Site A delete all VPN configuration from 887 and leave only ATM0.1 point-to-point, on intereface Outside of ASA put ip of loopback(of router 887) and as default route 85.34.2.XXX. Right?

I am looking to upgrade an 1812J router to 1921/K9 router with 8-port double wide switch port. What's the best/easiest way to migrate the config? (We have access lists, vlans, etc. configured on the original device)Also, I'm looking for a way to prioritize traffic from an external site on the internal LAN. Reason being that I would like to prevent dropouts of interent streaming radio when Internal LAN traffic is high. If so, what's an easy way to implement on 1921?

My customer has two SW6500 on VSS mode connected via VSL. Anyone connected WLC5508 with SW6500 VSS using LAG feature ?I wish to connect one uplink from LAG to the first switch and the second uplink to the other. The two switches are considered like one logical software.I have already read the best practice from CISCO when we connect a 5508 to a switch regarding the port-channel but nothing regarding VSS and VSL link.

Currently we have 20 remote sites, each with 2-5 AP's each. They all connect back to our Main Data Site in the US and register on a single WLC5508.
We do not have a backup WLC, but are looking to purchase one. What I would like to know is, are there any problems with the secondary WLC being installed in our Main Data Site in Europe? These two main sites are connected via a 10M MPLS WAN.
So all the remote sites could still connect to the WLC in the US, but in the event of a WLC failure in the US, they would need to fail over to the site in Europe

I need to upgrade the compact flash of my ASA 5510 from 256MB to 512MB. A friend's recommendation was to buy a card reader, copy all of the data from the existing card and paste it to the new compact flash. I have a hard time believing that it's that straight forward.
Any safer, more foolproof way of migrating between flash cards?
