Cisco Routers :: RVS4000 Hangs Every Few Hours

May 1, 2013

Few months back I had purchased this Router. But I did not use it till last week. Since the time I have installed it, it does freeze often (between 5 to 30 hours).

I can connect to devices within the subnet, but not elswhere. I  have to remove the power and plug it back for it to respond. I have updated the firmware to the latest one that was on the Cisco site.

Routers Are Losing Their Configurations Or Network Hangs

Jan 31, 2011

I'm trying to figure out what's wrong in a LAN having 70 computers. There are three routers in the same subnet with three switches (kinda crappy). DHCPs are off.The problem is that randomly the routers are losing their configurations or the network hangs a lot. There is no problem in the routers (tested many times). The thing is that when i start packet sniffing over the network using wireshark there's a big flood (over 10.000 packets in a sec) coming in a internal ip inside the network ex. 192.168.1.60.Next thing is that when one of the routers shuts down manually, the other one is losing it's config. Today, when i went to check 192.168.1.60 i saw the power plug was not connected, when i re-plugged it the flood was gone. (the computer was turned off).I enabled SPIs / firewalls in all of the three routers and there is no problem yet.

Cisco Routers :: RV042 Hangs On Reset If VPN Tunnel Is Established?

Cisco Routers :: RV082 To ASA 5510 Tunnel Freezes After 8 Hours?

Apr 18, 2012

I have a RV082 that has an issue keeping an IPSEC Gateway to Gateway VPN running from itself to our ASA 5510. At 8 hours of connectivity (I can almost set a clock to it) the Tunnel will say it is connected on the RV082 but on the ASA 5510 the tunnel is not up.

If I click on disconnect on the RV082 under the VPN Summary page things will come back up. from the ASA 5510 side there is nothing I can do to get things back (ping inside "vpn network" or even trying to make a connection to a networked VPN machine).

To make things more complicated I have another VPN on the RV082 to a PIX 506e that works with no issues. I also have another RV082 at another location with the same settings that keeps its tunnel with the ASA 5510 with out any issue. Some things I have tried to try and fix the issue are:

I upgrade the firmware on the Rv082 V3 from 4.0.0.7-tm (what it was shipped with) to 4.1.1.01-sp) - This seemed to have no effect.

on the RV082 I have changed the MTU from automatic to 1428 and 1452 - all this does is make the connection to the PIX 506e unstable like it is for the ASA 5510 I have changed this back to automatic.

since the time of stability seems to be 8 hours I have changed the "Phase 1 SA life time" and "Phase 2 SA life time" to 28800 both at the same time and individually - This seemed to have no effect.

The current configuration on the RV082 are:
Local security gateway type: IP Only
IP address: (local ISP provided static IP address)

Cisco Routers :: RVS4000 ACL Modification Bug

May 16, 2012

I have an RVS4000 running V2.0.2.7 firmware that gives me an "Invalid Character(s) Found" error message when I try to edit an existing ACL.

I'm trying to deploy 57 of these routers and would like to be able to use a pre-built config dropped onto each router.

I initially planned on editing the exported config with a find&replace for my local LAN addresses. Since that didn't work the next reasonable solution would be to edit the ACL list (much more tedious, but still better than hand-entering every ACL on all 57 devices).

when this bug will be addressed? Alternatively, if there is an offline configuration editing tool I would be one happy camper to have it!

Cisco Routers :: Two RVS4000 Don't Connect To Each Other

Sep 4, 2011

I don't know if my vendor mislead me, but I need to do this: There is a public subnet in my office, not a 192.168.x.x, but a real Public IP.The reason is that we do VOIP and those are only servers. I installed a RVS 4000 in that location, and assigned a PUBLIC Ip to BOTH the WAN and LAN, since when I connect from outside, using either QickVPN or another identical router, I need to be assigned one of the PUBLIC Ip's on the remote LAN. That is the whole idea of the project, to locate servers remotely and make them use our set of PUBLIC IP's. Well, so far I cannot connect either with the Quick VPN client, or using the VPN Wizard. It goes and creates the tunnel, without error, but when I click test, it fails.

Cisco Routers :: RVS4000 VPN Setup?

Nov 11, 2012

I am getting ready to setup an RVS4000 so we can use the VPN functionality of it, but I am not quite sure of the correct way to integrate it into our network though. I do not need site to site, just the client portion of it for a few salesmen/off site people to use. I have never used or setup a VPN before, so I'm learning everything as I go along.

We are in the middle of switching our ISP and I am waiting to set this up until the new service is live so I can test it prior to moving the rest of the company to the new ISP.

We are switching to Comcast, and will have 5 static IP's available to use.  Currently, the firewall does all our NAT and is the forward facing device on our network.  I would like to leave the firewall in place (although I am setting up a new firewall for the new internet connection) and have th RVS 4000 sit behind it and receive VPN traffic from a WAN to LAN rule  We currently have a 192.168.100.0/24 network.

Do I need to setup another /24 network for the VPN to function behind (and still have access to the 100.X network), or is there a way to allow everyone who connects to receive a 100.X ip address from our DHCP server.  I'm not sure how to set everything up with the WAN/LAN connections on the RVS4000 to acheive this.

We are running a domain on a 2008R2 server.  The clients will be using laptops that are already part of the domain, if that will make a difference.

Cisco Routers :: RVS4000 VPN Configuration

Jun 15, 2011

I'm trying to setup a VPN tunnel between a Cisco RVS4000 on our side and a Cisco ASA5520, to connect a machine on our local network to a test server on the target side.

We have all the settings setup correctly and the tunnel is up and running, however, our local machine can't connect/ping to their server. I've tried a trace route both from the machine and from the RVS4000 itself, and they both get stuck after getting past 192.168.1.1. Is there any routing or NAT-ing that I need to do on our router? Or is there a problem somewhere else?

Cisco Routers :: RVS4000 IP Based ACL And NAT?

Aug 8, 2009

I'm having an issue with a Linksys RVS4000 which doesn't appear to be behaving as I think it should.I need to forward a port (Single Port Forwarding) through to an internal NAT host. However, I only want that host/port to be accessible from one host on the internet, for security reasons.

I have created the port forwarding entry and this works fine. I then created two rules in IP Based ACL - one to block all access to that port from the WAN interface and one to allow access from a single host.

However, it appears that when a port forwarding entry is added, it will completely bypass the ACL and allow all traffic for that port/host by default. Is this the correct behaviour?

Firmware version is v1.2.11

The RVS is configured like this: NO VPN configured.
Block WAN Request :OFF
FIREWALL,IPS,DDOS are OFF

NAT forwarding on for UDP 500 and 4500 directed from the wan to the ip of the VPN gateway. Seems right because iv managed to do this with other routers (different brands) on another site.I've wire sharked my vpn client and i keep getting ICMP destination unreachable (PORT UNREACHABLE) after my ISAKMP launching packet. Can the RVS nat these ports ?

I am trying to configure my RVS4000 to create my church's small network.  I want to connect my internet DSL router on the WAN port and also segment my network with VLANs on the 4 LAN ports.  I have port 4 connected to a wireless access point which is in VLAN1 for an open wireless network for any church member to access the internet through.  I have a church server, printer and second access point on ports 1-3 in VLAN 34.  All ports are untagged.  I want the devices on VLAN34 which need confidentiality to be secure from the devices connecting to the internet from VLAN1 for open access but both VLANs need access to the internet..

My open wireless AP in VLAN1 has access to the internet on the WAN port.

None of my devices in VLAN34 have access to the internet.  I have tried using inter-VLAN routing but that made operation worse so I disabled it.

Cisco Routers :: RVS4000 Not Distributing IP Addresses?

Jan 21, 2013

I work for a company that recently upgraded to a Cisco RVS4000 router in place of a failing D-Link router.  I configured the RVS4000 to utilize the same address space as the D-Link previously did (192.168.0.0 Network Address, 255.255.255.0 Subnet Mask, RVS4000 in Gateway Mode with IP Address 192.168.0.1, DHCP Scope from 192.168.0.101 - 200 managed by the RVS4000) before installing it on the network.  I powered down the D-Link as well as the cable modem, then all of the workstations in the office.  Then, I installed the RVS4000, powered up the cable modem, and once it was ready, powered on the RVS4000.

When devices connect, the RVS4000 is assigning them an IP address in the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet, instead of the 192.168.0.0/24 subnet.  I have verified that the RVS4000's GUI is showing the correct settings, but connected devices are not picking up addresses from the correct address pool.  In troubleshooting, I went to each workstation, released and renewed their IP addresses, and they picked up addresses in the correct subnet.  I thought everything was solved, but the next day, the same problem resurfaced.

I left the DHCP lease time at the defaul value "0", which according to the unit's documentation should correspond to a 24-hour lease period.  I suspect this is why I had to renew the clients' IP addresses the next day (today), but I still don't get why the RVS4000 wants to give out addresses in the 192.168.1.0/24 scope.  Could this be a holdover from the factory settings?

Additional Information: I did not set up any VLANs on the network and the office only requires one subnet as there are not a lot of devices connected, nor do we need the traffic segragated.  The VPN functions of the RVS4000 work fine.  Using the QuickVPN utility, I can access the network and resources on the network remotely without issue.

Cisco Routers :: RVS4000 Cannot Download Files From Web

Oct 31, 2010

I am having problems with the RVS4000 ver 1.  I cannot download files from the web.  Firmware is up to date.  As an example, if I try to download from pdf995's site, I get a "page cannot be displayed error.  If I try to download current files for my flight planning software (like charts, etc.), the download hangs and never completes.  I have bypassed the RVS4000 and connected directly to the broadband router and there are no problems.  We have a 15MB cable connection.Follow-up - It appears the issue is file size.  At pdf995's site, downloading a 2.5MB file works, but the 9 MB file does not.  The file sizes for the flight planning software are rather large - 100-200 MB, and they hang as well.  Connecting directly to the cable router does not cause this problem.  The RVS4000 is set for Gateway mode.

Cisco Routers :: RVS4000 Looses WAN-connection

Aug 18, 2011

My new RVS4000 (2.0.2.7) connects the WAN via PPoE with dynamic IP which is held at DynDNS and normally I see the RVS4000 via a router-to-router-VPN. That works fine so far, but every "some" days the router looses WAN connection (and with ist VPN). When this happens, last DynDNS-update is hours ago, so it didn`t reconnect. Looking on the routers site, the LAN is fully functional for clients that have got their DHCP-Information. New clients don`t get DHCP-Info (IP-address, DNS), both do not have internet access. The router`s WAN-summary shows, that it thinks to be "CONNECTED" but with empty WAN-IP and DNS entries. Klicking "DISCONNECT" and then "CONNECT" again solves the problem so far. The loss of connection is not the periodic break from the IPC, which is correctly identified and reconnected as configured. I wanted to trace the problem with the log, but there is also a bug. It stops logging at some time completely - neither email-log nor local log, so I never happend to be lucky to hit the point of loss of connection. Also the local log provides a first and next pages, but the next pages are always empty - not really useful.

Cisco Routers :: RVS4000 - VPN DynDNS Behind Firewall NAT

Aug 15, 2012

The local router is behind a fiber firewall/router; the rvs4000's ext ip is thus 192.168.1.2, not visible from the net.  The firewall/router is a dyn ip, with a dyn dns name mapping to it.  The remote (some NetGear thing) is also dyn dns, but it is not behind a firewall.

I want to cook a vpn from the local lan subnet to the remote lan subnet.

It worked fine when both ends were NetGear.

I think it would be ok if somehow I could thell the rvs4000 that the local Security Gateway Type be just FQDN; it can't be IP+FQDN because the remote end doesn't know anything about that kind of thing; it can do IP or FQDN or a couple other confusing things.

If there's any way to just prevent all traffic from an IP address range on the remote site, that would also do.
