I've installed RV042 for a client of mine. For next two months everything worked without any problems. The issue I've been experiencing lately is when I assign a static IP address to the PC it won't have internet access. Once I allow it to have a dynamically assigned IP then it works fine. The IP I assign isn't part of the DHCP range.
View 7 RepliesIn setup for old RV042 (V1), when updating / adding Mac addresses, the table is always sorted by IP addresses. But in the new oneRV042 (V3) I have, even with latest firmware 4.2.1.02 the list is random, thereby increasing the chance of user entering DUPLICATE IP addr with diff Mac addr. That will result in conflict.If the firmware sorts the DHCP entries by ip addresses, user would be able to catch duplicate ip errors even if the system does not flag the errors. All Cisco smart engineers can you all get the dhcp entries SORT by ip addresses.

If the devices are using static IP addresses and not getting them from the DHCP server they do not show in the Client Table under DHCP Status.
If they are know MAC addreses because they have been assigned to static IPs on the DHCP setup screen they will not show up in the Uknown MAC Addresses pop up window.
I've put in an SRP-527W for a client and got it working fine. However, it's not connecting using the 5 static IP addresses BT gave me. Where do i input the 5 static IP's on the router that it should connect using?

From what i am reading, it looks like the RV042 can do this, but I am not real clear what my rules should look like.
I would think my high priority rule for each external IP address would be to deny all traffic first for each machine on the lan.Then create one entry with source 202.x.x.2 port 80 -> 192.168.168.2 ?
How should I set my rules to do this, and what settings should I have on the Nic of the second machine?
I am new to implementing VPN service. What I would like to do is install a RV042 or RV082 (for added speed) and configure it to allow me to access the Internet (from home base) through the VPN from any location while on the road and using my laptop. My questions are: Can this be done? If so, what needs to be done in the configuration to allow gateway access to the Internet? I can't find any reference in the Cicso documents, but somewhere I saw that it can be done. I don't care about accessing anything on the local LAN. As I would be using the same Internet connection for the VPN and the access to get out----how would this affect speed? I plan to use Quick VPN as the client, and haven't even touched the client issue.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to configure a BT Business ADSL Router (BT2700HGV) to work in bridge mode in front of a Cisco RV120W router and cannot get this to work.I have followed numerous posts I have come across in configuring the BT router for bridged mode and this has been configured as follows:
ATM Encapsulation - Bridge LLC
DSL and ATM - VPI=0, VCI=38 (also tried VCI=35)
ATM PVC Search - Disabled
Connection Type - Direct IP (DHCP or Static)
Disable Routing - Yes
There are also some other options on the same configuration page for 'Broadband IP Network' (which I have left on DHCP) and also a 'Public IP' which has been left blank. After setting the above options this removes the LAN DHCP configuration, the PPPoA logon details and sets the internal IP address of the BT router to 192.168.1.254.
My understanding of 'Bridge' mode is that this router will now act simply as a modem and configuration details such as logon details and WAN IP address information are configured using the Cisco RV120W router?The configuration of the Cisco router is as follows:
Internet Connection Type - PPPoE
Username and Password set
Authentication Type - Auto-Negotiate (options here are PAP, CHAP, MS-CHAP and MS-CHAPv2)
Routing Mode - Router (Other option is 'Gateway (NAT))' - I have tried both options
The WAN interface on the Cisco router is connected to one of the LAN ports on the BT router. The 'Broadband' light is on the BT router but the 'Internet' light isn't. The WAN status on the Cisco router is 'Connecting'. I am sure I am missing something simple.We have been assigned a range of static IP addresses from BT so am trying to get these working too (x.x.x.24/29 - 5 usable statics), another option available (other than PPPoE) for configuring the WAN interface on the Cisco router is a 'Static IP', not sure if this is the correct option but have tried messing with it, I have tried assigning a static IP from the range given to us (.30 - the router address specified by BT) along with the subnet mask, however don't know what to put as the default gateway, would this be the peer address (but assume that would change anyway), in any case, using the 'Static IP' option does not give an option to supply the BT logon details which I assume is required?
In bridged mode, what is the peer address assigned to, the BT router or the Cisco router?Does the BT router need to be configured with a public IP address?
I am trying to setup the following. We have an RV042 Router and are using it as our gateway at the office. In the office we are using a Windows Domain abc.lan with DHCP of 10.0.0 - 10.0.0.254. The Router/Gateway is setup with a Static IP of 10.0.0.100.A couple of our office employees would like to work from home via VPN using their laptops. With the many options available for this router, I am not clear as to which options and what settings I should set.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an RVS 4000. I have several PC's to which I have assigned static IP addresses. I have recently upgraded most of the PC's to Win 7 (64) machines. I updated the firmware on the RVS4000 to 1.3.3.5 in conjunction with this. After such update (and actually before as well) I could not assign a static IP address to a PC and have access to the internet. It connects fine to my LAN, just no internet access. This is also affected on several other machines running Win XP and Win 2003 Server, so it's not just this computer.
I have:
1. Shut down (powered off/unplugged) everything, router, DSL modem, switches, server, etc.
2. As I said firmware is current.
3. Yes, DNS servers and gateway, subnet, etc. are all correctly specified on the PC.
4. Router is set for gateway mode.
5. Set to only IPV4.
The only way it allows internet access is to use DHCP. I've even tried taking the IP address via DHCP and manually assigning the DNS servers and that works fine, but as soon as I assign a static IP internet access is immediately gone.
There must be something I'm missing, but I can't seem to find it.
Everything worked fine prior to the conversion of the Win 7 machines, i.e. I had several PC's with static IP's and no problems.
I have an E3000 that I am just setting up.I have two issues:
1> I am replacing a WRT110. I had the old router set with a static IP address supplied by my ISP. I configured the E3000 with the same address and I cannot access the internet. Are there any tricks to setting this up on an E3000?
2> As configured I there is a guest network setup. BUT when I access the router I don't see the tab to be able to configure it.
I defined a static route: 192.168.0.0 / 255.255.255.0 / 192.168.1.201 (gateway), I can connect from 192.168.1.0 to 192.168.0.0 but we cannot ping in this local network. We have a CISCO 18000 as a VPN IP configured between this two local network.

Due to growing number for Wireless devices and also to separate WLAN traffic from wired devices, we have created a separate VLAN/IP Subnet for the wifi devices. We are having trouble accessing the internet from the WiFi VLAN/IP Subnet. Cisco 3750 is layer 2 and layer 3 device. We have VLAN 1 (10.10.10.0/255.255.255.0), all wired devices and RV 042 are part of VLAN 1. Connectivity to internet from VLAN 1 is good. VLAN 2 (192.168.1.0 / 255.255.255.0) was created for wifi devices, 3750 does the inter-vlan routing, I have enabled the multiple subnet feature on the RV 042 and added 192.168.1.2 / 24 to the subnet list, we still have issues accessing internet from vlan 2 devices.
As a workaround, I shutdown vlan 2 and added 192.168.1.0/24 as secondary address to the VLAN 1 interface on 3750 and i was able to access internet from 192.168.1.0/24 network with wifi devices also on vlan 1, we want wifi devices to be on separate vlan / ip subnet. Looking at the documentation for RV series routers, it talks about supporting multiple subnets access to internet by enabling multiple subnet feature but it doesn't seem to work.Are there restrictions on having multiple vlans?
Currently i am having a scenario where i have setup RV042 and which is connected to Microsoft Forefront 2010. PPTP works fine only on rv042 subnet but i am not able to access the "internal" network of TMG.RV042 (172.16.1.1) ---> TMG [external] (172.16.1.2) ---> TMG [internal] (192.168.1.1) Is there any way through static route to access the TMG internal network through RV042 pptp server?

I am having an issue where I type [URL] (for a server running on my network) in my web browser while on the internal network and it always comes back with the router login page. Basically it is supposed to go out of the router and then come back in on the public IP address and hit that server. There was a function on the WRT54G called "Filter Internet NAT redirection" which when turned off would allow this to happen. I am not seeing a feature like this on the RV120W

I have been trying to resolve this issue with only allow facebook access throug the content filter between 12pm and 1 pm. However The settings never seem to take. Is this a bug in the system? If I start the filtering from 1300 to 1200 that should allow facebook to be accessible only on lunch.

which enables telnet. However when I type my username and password it will not authenticate.
I had this problem where 2 users could only access my RV042 vpn one at a time
The Linksys solution was to give these 2 users a RV042 as well. That worked, 2 can access my vpn at the same time. We use QuickVPN for this purpose
But now there users cannot access another Cisco vpn any more in our office. I attach a schematic and a screen shot of the error when trying to connect to the professional vpn with vpn client version 5.0.07.290

brand new RV042 client (tried MacOS and Win7 on two laptops) will get IP from DHCP and shows correct IPs for gateway etc. - however entering the IP 192.168.1.1 to access web admin does not work (tried current versions of Firefox, safari and Firefox); browser is not offline router was reset to factory setting (by pressing reset for over 30sec) ping on IP above works

how to switch between my 5 new static IP addresses that I purchased (on a monthly basis now) from my ISP. I need them for my business so that I can send out more than the 1,000 emails per day from the one IP address to all of my customers which total a little over 1,500 now. Unfortunately I'm quite computer iliterate when it comes to understanding even the basics of computer terminology, etc. My ISP explained to me that if I purchased the bundle of 5 static IPs, then I could in essence send out 5,000 emails per day, which is plenty.

View 22 Replies View RelatedI've setup a GroupVPN and connect to the RV042 with the Shrewsoft VPN client, works like a charm as opposed to QuickVPN ;-)The firewall is configured with an explicit deny rule for RDP access to an internal server, also an explicit allow rule is created for certain IP numbers as source. I noticed that I need to create an explicit allow rule for the subnet the Shrewsoft client is using for the virtual adapter or I will not be able to access the internal server via RDP through the GroupVPN tunnel. I would think that setting up a tunnel defies the rules created for direct access on the WAN port.

It works fine when I'm on a different network like 3G or someone else's Wifi network (192.168.11.X).

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have both a Comcast and Verizon connection at our school. They are going into a Sonicwall NSA5500. The configuration is such that if the primary - Comcast - fails then the secondary - Verizon - will pickup the internet traffic. The issue we are having is with local Verizon customers. When we got our IP address from verizon it was a /24 subnet with a gateway starting at .1
I thought this was strange as every other time I have gotten a block of static IP addresses from an ISP it has been a /29 or /28 at the most. But the ISP confirmed that this is what we were supposed to get and it should not cause problems.
A local business we deal with happens to be on our subnet with the same next hop Gateway. When I perform a traceroute to them, the traffic goes directly out the Verizon WAN interface to our common gateway, then to the local business. This, all while the Comcast Interface is our dedicated primary for all traffic.
I spoke with Sonicwall and they explained that the firewall is simply taking the most efficient path which makes sense to me in some regard but is still confusing why it would use the interface when policy says it is a failover.
Now, this local business tries to send us email with their on premise Exchange - we also have Exchange. The emails will sit in their queue indefinitely and ultimately fail to reach us. If I disable the Verizon interface the emails come in perfectly fine - even some in their queue will immediately come through once I disable it. I thought this was a DNS issue but it is not or at least our DNS is all configured correctly where we have no other problems with email. Our MX records utilize the static IPs from Comcast - nothing is using our static Verizon addresses.
I am trying to setup a VPN using an RV042 (fw ver: 1.3.12.6) to access a VISTA computer over the internet using a laptop using QVPN's latest version. I finally got it to connect but then hang's with error " Gateway is not responding, do you want to wait?". If I say yes it go through the login again and hangs. If I say no, it hangsup. I've tried a couple different ideas using tunnelling and static IPs in the router but nothing. All I want is to be able to access one computer through the RV042 over the internet from any other computer using the QVPN.

Now, we have a plan to implement the same for our mobile clients also. For this, we had followed all the basic configuration procedures and user got connected to Quick VPN tunnel. Here is a problem we had observed. The mobile client user is connected to the tunnel, but unable to access the office LAN from the PC.
I am trying to limit HTTP access to my server on the local network to a specific IP address. I create an Access Rule in the firewall section, however that doesn't work. The only way it works is if I add the internal IP address of the server to the Forwarding section where I create a new HTTP forwarding rule.However, that is not good because that allows ALL HTTP traffic to that server instead of just by the single IP address.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a RV120W used to provide VPN access to several industrial devices. Some of these devices are assigned IP address via DHCP in the router. One cannot do DHCP, so it has a self-determined static IP.
The VPN works well for all the devices that are assigned IP's. However, it does not allow me to connect to the device that has a static IP. I can connect to it fine when I am on the LAN or WLAN, but cannot ping it via the VPN.

I discovered today that I cannot have two users connect in at the same time. Both users are in the same remote office. They can connect individually with no problem but if one is connected and the other tries connect also the second user gets a message the gateway is not responding. They are both running Win XP PRo SP3.
