Cisco Routers :: WRVS4000 With Static IP - Required Modem Settings

Apr 16, 2013

I had an WRVS4400 (but didn't use the wireless), it it died. I'm replacing with an RVS4000. I have all the settings from the prior router, but my question has to do with the DSL modem in use in conjunction with the router, because (in my absence) my wife had a conversation with SBC, trying to use the hook to the modem directly and ended up altering settings on the modem that may affect the RVS4000 when I go to install it upon its receipt from Amazon tomorrow.

We have a business that uses a third party software vendor's website; their servers access our data on our server behind the router.  So we use a static IP address, and port forwarding. No problem there. But I could have sworn that, with the WRVS4400 we used to have the modem configured as bridged; as of this morning, the modem shows PPPoE, and my wife can't recall what SBC had her do in that regard!

So, for the situation I've described, should I put the modem into bridge mode (and porting it into the RVS4000). Like I said, we have a static WAN IP address, and a range of more static IP addresses.

Cisco Routers :: WRVS4000 VPN Client Installer On New V2 Runs Only In Windows 2000 Or XP

Aug 18, 2011

I just got my first WRVS4400N v2.Nothing has changed, the definition of small business means there are USUALLY one office, and several people runs around thus the need of a VPN server sitting at the home office Router. I think most of us small business operators had wished for a connection away from office, NO REMOTE GROUPS, just clients on phone, or laptop. Using this connection to get to some files which isn't sitting in the cloud, or perhaps using it to hop over firewall restrictions that some overseas countries had imposed.

What you should have is a setting for Stand-alone VPN server, NOT Router to Router.. What you should have is feature that generates the various psk for different platforms. What you should have is made things simple, instead of these magicabbage which goes no where for the small businesses.Through out this thread the original poster is presenting the same problem, he and I don't have a Remote Group router to enter an IP address, tell us to use the QuikVPN client DON'T work, the Server isn't UP to begin with! Moreover, the VPN client installer on the this new v2 runs only in Win 2000 or XP??? What the (*&^! Doesn't seem like a large business like Cisco should have in their boxes.

Setup 2 Wireless Routers With 2 Static IP's 1 Modem

Feb 16, 2012

My adolescent son wants to create a server to host video games. We, the parents, want to separate our computers and files from all the crazy security risks my son and his friends take, while allowing them to learn by their mistakes.I want 2 separate networks, or does this make sense? Would love to have our computers (assorted PC's, Macs, both laptops and desktops, running Vista Ultimate, Windows 7, OSX 10.5 and up), ipods, TV's, Blu-rays, wireless printers, etc. isolated from our son's computers, ipods, TV's, XBox, Blurays, wireless printers, (as well as the digital stuff his friends bring over).Since security is the reason for this, would love any tips over and above Brian Posey's article on Tech Republic (5 common security mistakes people make on setting up wireless networks, or something like that)We have Optimum high speed (testing up to 65 mps) internet service and 5 static IP addresses to work with.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 Dual WAN Settings Required

Feb 27, 2012

I have a 5505 configured with a active/standby dual wan setup using the sla tracked connection settings. Is there a way to configure the ASA to stay on the backup connection after activating? We had a situation where the main T1 was bouncing, so the backup connection was being activated and deactivated very often. The problem is that there is an app being used that does not allow users to reconnect to dropped connections immediately, so every time the asa switches wan connections it causes a significant disruption.I should note that I already set monitor options frequency to 240 seconds. I could set it higher, but then we have a longer delay when the main connection dies.

D-Link DIR-601 :: IP Settings Are Dynamic Not Static

Oct 2, 2010

I have the dir-601 as my main router. Its IP settings are dynamic, not static. My second router, the router I'd like to use as the access point is a Belkin Wireless G Mimo. My goal is to setup the Belkin as an access point downstairs away from the main router. I'd like to do this wirelessly. I'd like to phsycialy plug devices into the Belkin, while the Belkin receives access to the internet wirelessly from my main router, the dir-601.

Here's my issue. There's an easy option to use the Belkin as an access point. So I do this and set the Belkin router to an IP outside the DCHP range ( currently 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199 ) to 192.168.0.250. My dir-601 will only recognize the Belkin access point while plugged in physically. I know this because when I did a ping test it only see's the Belkin when plugged into the dir-601 via ethernet cables. My ultimate goal is to simply set the dlink dir-601 to recognize the Belkin as an access point.

Resetting Modem / Router To Factory Settings

Got a Belkin wireless modem router some 18 monthes ago, and after a bit of a struggle managed to set it up. It worked fine, aside from the odd depower repower. For some reason, it just stopped working yesterday. I initially checked all my cabling etc and everything seems fine. I next tried resetting my modem/router to factory settings. When I tried to install the Belkin software I fell at the first hurdle with a message saying "The setup assistant is not able to connect to the router". After googling my issue, I followed others advice and running the cmd setting and typing in "ipconfig" only to find that my media state was disconnected.

Cisco Routers :: RV082 Dual WAN Configuration Required

Jun 12, 2012

RV082 configured for Dual WAN [Code]....

(2) identical DSL connections, configured as Static IP (not PPPoE) with modems in bridged mode. Static IP's are /25 subnet and same gateway  ** this may be a problem? Dual WAN set for Load Balance, network service detection is OFF

We have a 2003 terminal server running and successfully receiving connections through both WAN connections.  Depending on location, half the users are connecting to WAN1 IP and the other half to WAN2 IP.  We are getting sporadic disconnects of the remote users when they are idle for a couple minutes and automatic reconnection of the session takes over a minute.  If they close the (locked up) session and reconnect manually it will let them in right away.

Could the handling of the Dual-WAN be the culprit?   Could the same gateway for both WAN's create this issue upstream (out of my control)?I am going to move everyone to connecting through WAN1 and then change to Smart Link Backup and see if the issues persist.

Another thought is to use a secondary IP on the terminal server and use Protocol Binding to match "All traffic" for IP1 to WAN1 and IP2 to WAN2, which theoretically would stabilize the situation?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1000 - Can't Access Router Settings After Changing To Static IP

Jun 26, 2012

I installed an IP camera, and had to change my E1000 router settings to a static IP address.  Now I can't access the router settings.  192.168.1.1 is still the default gateway, but it won't open in any browser.

I'm reluctant to do a reset because it took me quite a while to figure out how to get the IP camera and port forwarding working (it does!), and I'd hate to do it all again and come to the same place.  I'm not very good at this stuff, and it's a small miracle that I did it once.

Router Or Modem Settings - No Computer On Network Can Reach Server

Feb 26, 2013

We have a Comcast business class cable modem with a static IP address. There are two devices hardwired to it; a server and a Linksys WRT610N, The server is hardwired to it with port forwarding set for ports 21, 80 and 5900. It works perfectly and can be reached as intended by the outside world but not by our own network. Our Linksys WRT610N is hardwired to the modem. All computers on the wireless network see each other and can access the internet perfectly. So all seems well enough. BUT, no computer on our network can reach our server. Using the domain name or VNC connections from inside our system results in time outs and no connection.

Cisco Firewall :: Connecting ASA 5510s To A DSL Modem With Static IP Range

Feb 27, 2013

I have DSL service with AT&T and I have a Motorola 3360 modem.  We also have a /28 network of static IPs from AT&T.  When I login using PPPoE on the modem it gets x.x.x.190 as it's address.  Our range is 177-190.  I have two ASA 5510s in an active/passive failover configuration with the Ethernet port of the modem and one interface of each of the ASAs on a dumb layer 2 switch.

I want to setup this DSL connection as a backup to our main Internet connection.  I cannot figure out what setting on the DSL modem to use to make this happen.  I know I cannot use PPPoE in a failover setting so I can't have the modem in bridged mode.  There is some mode where it passes the 190 address to the connected device and when I plug in a PC directly to the modem and set it for DHCP it does get 190 as it's address.  So do I configure the ASA interface as 190 with one of the other addresses as it's standby?  What do I set my route on the ASA to for use of this connection?  Can I then make use of these other static addresses when plugging other devices into the layer 2 switch?
