Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N - Some Wireless Clients Have No Connectivity

Jan 27, 2013

We have an office with about 10 PCs, and several other network devices (smartphones, printers, etc). Some PCs and printers are wired, some are not. About two weeks ago, some (6) of the wireless devices lost connectivity. Since then, some (4) of the devices have also recovered normal connectivity.

As of right now, there are two computers, a laptop and a desktop, that cannot use the wireless network. They see the wireless network, connect to it, receive an IP via DHCP properly, have correct DNS servers listed in ipconfig, but they can't ping the router, use the intranet, or internet.

Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N Dropping Wireless Clients

Jul 17, 2011

I have several wired and wireless devices connected to the router which is running the latest firmware (2.0.2.1) and I have this issue with all wireless devices.  The router is configured for B/G/N Mixed, Channel 6, and to broadcast the SSID.  Security Mode is WPA2-Personal w/ key renewal set to 3600.  Connection control is configured to allow only the desired MAC addresses.  All wireless clients are configured for DHCP (as are some of the wired clients that do not have this issue).  I have tried various setting changes over time, none of which have resolved the issue.

What I have determined, and may be useful, is that each time this occurs I am unable to ping the router from the client and have no connectivity to the internet or other devices on the network.  If I ping the WAP address (reserved for internal use address) I get a response and then connectivity is always restored after doing so.  In other words, I ping 192.168.1.1 and get no response, immediately ping 192.168.1.2 and get a response, then immediately ping 192.168.1.1 and now get a response and connectivity is restored.  If I skip the first step and just ping the reserved address followed by the router address result is always the same.  It would appear the issue is between the the two router addresses.

Prior to owning this router I had a Linksys BEFSX41 that I had for about 7-8 years and a WAP54G I had for about 5, both of which still worked and I never had this issue with my wireless clients.  I went to this router for the increased performance and am very happy with that aspect, however this issue is unacceptable.

Cisco Routers :: Wireless Clients On WRVS4400n Cannot Access Server

Mar 10, 2012

When clients connect wirelessly to the WRVS4400N they successfully get a DHCP address from the Windows 2008 server.  After they have the address they can no longer access the server.  It cannot be pinged, no drives can be mapped and internet access fails because the same server is running DNS.  The WRVS4400N is setup for DCHP relay to the server.  Wired clients do not have this problem.  Wireless clients that connect to a secondary WAP on the same LAN also do not experience this problem.  I have updated the router to the latest firmware version, reset it to factory defaults and reconfigured from scratch.  Turning the server firewall off has not made any difference either.  I have been able to bypass the internet problem by adding a second external DNS server in the DHCP scope options.

Cisco Routers :: RV220W Wireless Clients Lose Internet Connectivity

Nov 4, 2012

I have an RV220W running firmware 1.0.4.17.  I have a couple of wireless laptop users that connect to the wireless without problems, but frequently cannot access the Internet.  They can always access local network resources, but for some reason when laptops are first powered up or are idle for a prolonged period of time, Internet access is lost.  Wired clients never experience this problem and always maintain local network and Internet connectivity.

To get the laptops to access the Internet over wireless, we have to run a TRACERT command from the command prompt to a public IP address, and then all Internet access is restored.

Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N Clients That Are Farther Away Connect At A Very Slow Rate

Mar 14, 2011

I have an WRVS4400N configured as a WAN and Wireless router and can connect clients (PC's and laptops) wirelessly thru out the office. The clients that are farther away (10-15 meters and on another floor) connect at a very slow rate i.e. less than 10MBps. I have a WAP4410N configured as a repeater. Immediately after powering up it will allow connections to the 4400 and clients work fine for a 1-2 minutes, then the connections drop and I can no longer connect through the 4410. Nor can I ping the 4410 through the 4400 although right after the pwr cycle I am able to ping the 4410. After another pwr cycle the 4410 is available for another short period.I have attached some info on the configuration of the units and I also have the configuration files available.

Cisco Wireless :: WRVS4400N Dropping Wireless Clients

Nov 11, 2010

WRVS4400N with firmware version V2.0.0.8.

After about an hour it routinely drops wireless clients.  Wired clients are fine.

Re initiating a connection from the clients usually restores the connection fine.  Sometimes this is just doing something to force the client to use the connection for some active function other times it's forcing the client to renew it's DHCP address or power cycling the client.  The same experience is happening with a TioVo on WiFi, an iPhone on WiFi, and a WAP4410N in Client Bridge mode.

While this may not sound that bad, it's creating 2 huge issues that shouldn't occur.

First, the wireless clients that are dropped are not accessible from other clients on the network until they reestablish their connection.  There is no indication on the client of an issue with the connection.  For example, a TiVo connected over WiFi isn't accessible from the network until it reestablishes it's connection.  It works fine then for a hour or so.

Second, for the WAP4410N (firmware 2.0.3.3) in Client Bridge mode, this client requires a power cycle to reconnect to the network.  In much less than an hour it stops responding to it's IP address for it's management page, but continues to pass traffic from the multiple wired items it's bridging.  Then, after about that same hour, it stops passing this traffic too.

I tried running the WAP4410N in WDS Bridge mode but was unable to get it to work.  For this testing, access to the management page was the test with no devices behind it.  So, it's possible that that access is what was broken and that it may have passed traffic.  No wireless clients need to connect to the WAP4410N, just the bridged wired clients.

This WAP4410N was previously acting as a brige to a WRT54G with no issues, but at G speeds.  Which makes me think it's an issue with the WRVS4400N dropping clients and the clients not knowing it.

Cisco Routers :: Acceptable Number Of Wireless Connections To WRVS4400N?

May 1, 2013

What would be an acceptable number of wireless connections to a WRVS4400N router? I'm working in the IT department for a new company, and one of the offices complains that using VoIP and doing large file transfers are constantly a problem.  They are all connecting wirelessly to the WRVS4400N. I managed to vpn in and connect to the web interface of the router, and it shows that there are 30 devices connected wirelessly to it.  However, when people plug into the wall jack VoIP and data seem to work fine.I can't find any info on what a best practice would be for number of wireless connections to the router.  There's no Vlans setup on it from what I can tell, so that may be my next step, to separate data and voice traffic.

Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N Wireless Client Has No Internet Access

Jul 18, 2012

I recently purchased a WRVS4400N security router and have got a strange problem with it. I set it up as my main router and connected two computers (a desktop and a server) using DHCP. They both work fine, internet is as fast as it should be, no problems whatsoever. However, when I setup the Wifi SSID (whatever security options I use, same with open/wpa/wpa2) and connect my laptop to it. It is allocated a IP address and windows even says that there is an internet connection. As soon as I try to do anything though, I am dropped. Try to ping an outside server, failure and dropped. Open IE, failure and dropped. I cannot even access my local server connected by wire to the router. If I connect the laptop via a cable to the router everything works, and it continues to work when I unplug it. So this means that right now I walk over to the router and plug my laptop in for 3 seconds before I unplug it and then use the wifi for a couple of hours without any problem. But as soon as I try to turn on my wireless Logitech SqueezeBox or wireless printer, they fail and take my laptop with it..

I have:reset the router, used both firmware 2.0.2.1 and 2.0.1.3 and done a factory reset.Tried to move the router close to the laptop, no difference.

Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N Block Web Interface From Wireless Accessibility

Feb 13, 2013

Query regarding the Cisco WRVS4400N and Valet M10 routers. How to block the web interface (router login page) from wireless accessibility?

-Our Business is a hotel, so untrusted intruders are our guests.
-Our ISP seeks hotspot methods that we cannot implement.
-Our only solution is routers and an AP to extend internet wirelessly.

the login page or configuration page of the router is always accessible via the gateway address.if the gateway is 192.168.1.1, then a guest can just enter this address and try to guess the password. hacking tools add to the problem.the LAN is working but it is not of certification standards.I seek a way to block wireless access to the gateway login page or physical access only.

Multiple Wireless Routers And Limited Connectivity

Jan 26, 2012

I manage the I.T. department for an ambulance service. We have 12 ambulances all equipped with Verizon 4G LTE Samsung hotspot cards. [code] There are laptops in each of the ambulances that connect to the wireless cards in the ambulance via DHCP. I get frequent problems when the vehicle get close to each other of them jumping from one card to another... which is not a huge problem, except when it happens the computer will have a "limited connectivity" to the internet. This sometimes will resolve after 3-5 minutes on its own, or if i disconnect from the wireless card and reconnect it will resolve, or sometimes by rebooting the wireless card it will resolve. We also need the ability to move the laptops from one ambulance to another as well so we need to have this flexibility.would I be better off establishing the same IP address to each of the wireless cards, still keeping different SSID's and different channel #'s and then hard code the IP address into the laptop instead of using DHCP to connect? My goal is to eliminate the limited connectivity issue.

Cisco Routers :: RV220w And Catalyst 3750 Wireless Connectivity

Jul 30, 2012

I have a Catalyst 3750 that was already configured with a minimal setup and integrated into one of our labs. The 3750 works fine and does everything we need it to for our internal wired network for that specific lab. The owners of the lab are trying to integrate an RV220W into the lab. So i am trying to set up this RV220W as just an access point as was requested. I've disabled all of the extra features on the device so it is being used as a WAP/Router. We have separated the 2 networks into separate VLAN's. VLAN 2 is used for the wireless, VLAN1 is used for the wired. The wired works great. I can connect to all devices on the cisco switch through the RV220W and vice versa.

We have tried disabling the RV220W's dhcp and using the rv220 as a dhcp relay from a server in the lab but it has the same results, so we've disabled dhcp from the lab and are using it on the rv exclusively since everything else is static.

Cisco3750 <----> RV220W <---- wireless/wired devices.
192.168.10.x for the wired network.
192.168.2.x for the wireless.

I can ping both sides of the VLAN's(If i have .10 IP, I can ping 192.168.2.1(interface for wireless VLAN on the router) when wired into the RV or plugged directly into the switch... Here it comes...

as soon as i connect the RV220w into the Catalyst switch the wireless gets EXTREMELY intermittent. The network shows up then doesn't show up in available networks. When i try to connect to it, it will time out and connect back to other available networks. As soon as i unplug the device from the switch the wireless is stable and there are no problems connecting to it.

We tried using a Dell switch instead of the Cisco to test, the wireless is stable. Wireless assign's a .2 subnet IP as it should and i can connect to everything on the Dell switch(.10 subnet) and vice versa. Also connected this device into a couple different 3750's and had the same issue. They are not heavily configured so many default settings may still be enabled.

Also tested 2 other devices on the Cisco switch, a linksys WAP and a Netgear Router. Both acted the same. I don't think it is the RV220W. I'm sure i'm missing something on the Cisco switch.

It's DHCP server provides addresses 192.168.2.x.The WRVS4400N's WAN port is connected to one of the LAN ports on the MODEM. It's IP address from the MODEM is 192.168.2.x. Cisco Routers :: DNS On Modem Or WRVS4400n?

Sep 15, 2012

I have successfully got QuickVPN working from Windows 7 64bit into my WRVS4400n.  The router is sat behind another router/modem (Belkin) as the UK uses PPPoA and the WRVS4400n doesn't.So I set up DMZ and changed the DHCP to always allocate 10.x.x.2 on the Belkin which is the WAN side for the WRVS4400n as it is the only thing attached.I have now noticed, and I'm not sure whether it was the case before, that the DNS that the WRVS4400 is showing is the LAN address for the Belkin  Modem/Router (10.x.x.1), not 192.x.x.1 for the WRVS4400n itself.  I assumed setting the Static DNS 1 on the WRVS4400n would do it, but it didn't?When I connect into the network with QuickVPN, the computer names do not show even though I have selected the option in QuickVPN?

Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N Cannot Browse Anything

Dec 16, 2012

Recently installed a WRVS4400N router on my home network. Prior to that I was using the wireless built into my FIOS router. I wanted something more secure so I went with the WRVS4400N. I turned off the FIOS wireless and am only using the cisco wireless.

Im having intermittent issues with the wireless. I have many things hooked up to my wireless including a HP printer and a Sonos system. Most of the time if I just open my ipad I cannot see anything else on my network including the printer. If I try to see the Sonos system can cannot, sometimes I can open the app on my iphone and then I can see it.

Sometimes I can see the printer and sometimes I cant. Sometimes when I do see it and then print to it, it will be gone before it even prints.
I don’t seem to have any issues thru the LAN connections.

Also, ive noticed that the wifi is much slower than the old FIOS box.

FYI, when I remove the cisco and fire back up the FIOS wifi I don’t have any problems at all at any time. And its much faster.

I have tried channel 6, 11 and auto. Also turned off IPC and still no change.
