Cisco Switches :: SF302-08P Support For IP 7942 Phones
Oct 22, 2012
i am looking at quoting the SF302-08P for a client which will have three small offices interconnected via single mode fiber. I am planning on connecting them to a 3560 switch. Each office will have no more than 3 - 7942 phones. I reviewed the notes on this switch and it seems it should support this phone type without any issues.

How do I make the following work with Cisco 302-08G ? I have a 4-port Cisco wireless/wired router that allows for a guest account. I also have Cisco SF302-08 that I bought so I could use its port/vlan mirroring capability. How should I configure the network, given the aforementioned equipment, so that I can get a single point sniff.
Assume I have two wireless clients, one using the "regular" wireless SSID, and the other using the "guest" SSID. I can see 192.168.1.x (regular SSID) and 192.168.169.x (guest ssid) on the internet side (one the same physical cat5 of the wireless router. So far so good. But, I would like to use 302-08 to actually allow the guest SSID/network comm cable)unicate with the regular SSID/network. For example, if I ping 192.168.169.x from 192.168.1.x, I would like to see a response. Can I make them communicate properly with the 302-08 ?? if so, what do I need to do ?? (I will also have wired clients tied into the 302-08..so its important that it be the central sniffer point).

I have the following setup using two SF302-08P PoE switches:
1st floor
=========
Switch #1 <-------> private network
<-------> public network
[Code].....
I have tried to make the config in switch #2 identical to switch #1, but something is still wrong. Is this most likely a VLAN setup problem, or what?

Just put in an SF302-08P switch with two AP541N's. Just a Comcast modem connects into the switch along with the two WAPs, nothing else. Speedtest through the cable modem with nothing plugged into it is 48Mbps. Then connecting a single laptop via the switch shows a speedtest of 33Mbps. Then with the two AP541N's plugged in and using the same laptop over WiFi, I'd consistently seen 10Mbps for downloading. But going right back to the cable modem directly showed me close to 50Mbps in a speed test.
Have factory defaults in all the Cisco devices, and poured over the settings and it looks like bandwidth limiting is disabled. Suspecting maybe it is for QoS and to optimize voice, but I see definite places in the devices where I could designate optimizing voice and those aren't enabled. Then started thinking with tweaking the wireless frequencies, but didn't want to do anything too unstable.

I am in the process of preping our network for the installation of an IP Camera based security system on it will be running within VLAN 600 in our network, and management would prefer that general users are not even aware it is there.
16 Cameras will all be running off two SF302-8P Switches that will be uplinked to our Cisco 2960 Access Switches. Due to port limitations I need to daisy chain the two SF302 Switches.
ACCESS-302-CA-01 - Ge1 uplinked to Port on ACCESS-03 (Cisco 2960) On this switch Fe1-8 Need to be in VLAN 600 to communicated with the camera server which will be plugged directly into Ge2 on Access 302-02.
ACCESS-302-CA-02 - Ge1 Uplinked to Ge2 on ACCESS-302-01
Ge2 - connected to the Network Video Recorder.
I've defined the VLAN's in the switch and have VLAN 600 as Untagged for FE1-8.
how do I configure Ge1 and Ge2 on each switch to pass the appropriate VLAN conntent to the devices connected?

I'm wondering if anyone knows to set up the switch so that when I'm connecting via SSH, the switch doesn't prompt for a username if I supply one in the initial connect request? For example, we usually connect by typing something like the following at a command prompt:
ssh johndoe@10.10.10.10
Then the switch would prompt for a password. I've tried this on the Cisco SF302 but it still prompts for a username, and then the password.

I'd like to know if there's a command I can run to turn off paging on my SF302 switch. So for example, when I run the "show logging" command on the CLI, I'd like to it return all the results instead of prompting me to hit space bar or enter.

I have several SG300-10 and SF302-08P switches running with L2-mode, and after I upgraded their firmware to 1.1.2.0, they began to record the following logs every one hour.
- Severity: Warning
- Description: %COPY-W-TRAP: The mirror-config file is illegal due to failure of previous copy operation/s to mirror-config.Also I found that I didn't see the Mirror Configuration file on the Configuration File Table in the Configuration Files Properties page.

Are 300 Series switches compatible with pre-standard PoE detection in old Cisco phones? They don't seem to be (a 7902G won't power on when connected to an SF302-08MP with firmware version 1.1). Is any special configuration needed on the switch to enable this detection?

I have a new install with 3 SF300 switches, setup as vlan 2, the switch connected directly to the 2901 router has no problems, plug in a phone and it gets an IP, but if connected to either of the two swtiches behind the first switch, they do not get an IP. I am seeing the DHCP request hitting the router, and the router sending the IP to the phone, but it never gets the IP.

PoE works fine with C 1131/1141 Access Points and C-7975 IP phone but PoE does not seem to work on 7960 Phones nor on the C-1121 Access points
All devices work properly with the Cisco power injectors or on a Cisco Cat-29XX switch
Is there a trick to make PoE work for older devices ?

I want to connect a 6911 IP Phone to a SG 300 switch. This is my scenario: vlan 3 data, vlan 9 voice, vlan 10 admin.I have a trunk on port 10 of the SG 300 (vlan 1 untagged, vlan 3,9,10 tagged) and it is connected to a switch 3560, this switch has all the L3 configuration of the vlans and the SG 300 switch has an IP on the admin vlan (10).Also i added the OUI of my IP phones an created an LLDP Policy. Right now I have a 7941 IP Phone working but 6911 is not working. Iam using the new version 1.1.0.73 that supports CDP.
Also I noticed that even when my PC and IP phone receive IP address they can not ping each other nor the SG 300. They only can ping the default gateway or IP addresses in diferent vlans but connected on 3560 switch.

I have 2 (and maybe soon 5 more) 7940G phones to add to my network, which already has a Netgear POE capable switch. I've since discovered that early Cisco POE isn't the same thing as current POE, and the switch doesn't power the phones.
I was looking at adding a Cisco SD208P 8-port switch to power the phones, but I soon discovered it only has 4 POE ports, and I'm not sure that this switch will even power the 7940G phones. And if the other 5 phones show up, I'll need two of those switches with no room for expansion on the voice network.
Will this switch power those phones?Is there another small switch available so I don't have to replace my existing switch infrastructure to get these phones to work? Or do I need to scrap the phones and get something newer that will work with the current POE standards?

I have an ESW-500, a SPA525G (also tried 504G), Polycom IP330/670 phones, and a Switchvox (Asterisk-based IP-PBX) and CDP causes some issues.Both the SPA5xx and Polycom phones support CDP but it appears to operate differently between the phones. And, surprisingly, worst of all on the SPA's.
In short:
* Switch - CDP enabled (VLAN 100), DHCP disabled (Option 82 enabled) which is basically how it comes out of the box
* Polycom phones - CDP enabled (default)
* Cisco phones - CDP enabled (default)
* DHCP/TFTP server on port 1
* Phones on ports 7,15,19 - default as smartports for Desktop & Phone
* Switchvox on port 17 - port configured as General (not Trunk) with 1U & 100U VLANs. This was required to get Polycom phones to appear in Switchvox config
With that configuration the Polycom phones work perfectly. They appear in the switch web-GUI under CDP, they present in Switchvox and can be configured.But with that configuration although the Cisco phones appear in the CDP screen they do not get DHCP. My DHCP server can see 'DHCP Discover' messages but it just goes around in circles. Disabling CDP on the switch will allow the phone to get an IP but disabling CDP on the phone still has the same problem. When I saw "around in circles" this is what I mean....
Rcvd DHCP Discover Msg for IP 0.0.0.0, Mac 00:25:84:06:12:46 [10/08 13:51:27.031]
DHCP: proposed address 192.168.100.16 [10/08 13:51:29.000]
4064 Request 2 not processed [10/08 13:51:29.062]
Rcvd DHCP Discover Msg for IP 0.0.0.0, Mac 00:25:84:06:12:46 [10/08 13:51:30.093]
DHCP: proposed address 192.168.100.16 [10/08 13:51:31.593]
4064 Request 2 not processed [10/08 13:51:31.656]
[code]....
With the difference being there's a 'DHCP Inform Msg' which there never is from the Cisco.I have tried many options regarding DHCP Relay, DHCP Server addresses, DHCP VLAN Interfaces, smartport settings etc but with CDP enabled the Cisco phone just will not get DHCP.

I have a CUCM BE environment with a number of remote users with 8961 phones connecting to an ASA 5501 via AnyConnect. The phones register fine and can make inbound/outbound calls as well as four digit dialing to other users at the corporate site.
The problem is when a remote user tries to four digit dial another remote phone. The called phone will ring but there is dead air once answered and then the line goes dead.
This sounds like a routing issue to me. How to get AnyConnect clients to be able to reach each other?

I am trying to hook up a SF300 switch to a cable modem and then plug some phones into the switch that are configured with static IPs. I am able to access the switch without an issue, but need it to pass traffic from the phones to the network and it is not doing so. We cannot do trunking because we are not using BSoD modems yet (next phase). For now, we just need the switches to pass everything from the phones to the network as is. Any ideas?

I am having problem setting up SGE2000P switches to work with my default data VLAN and additional voice VLAN. I am configuring it to pick IP address for phones from voice VLAN which is working fine but when I connect a PC on phone port it is also picking up an IP from Voice VLAN while default VLAN is data with different scope of IP.
I pack these switches and purchase ESW 500 series. I have ESW 500 at another client and they are working fine out of the box but this guy is giving me hard time.

I am new to VLANs although I generally understand the concept. I have a small office with 25 desktop/laptops and 15 VoIP phones connected with a SG200-50 switch and on Port 1 I have the Cisco SRP541W router for DHCP and Internet access. My goal is simple: 1) Segregate the VoIP phones (voice) from the computers (data) and 2) Prioritize the VoIP phones traffic.
I believe this can be accomplished by setting up a second VLAN and maybe a third (if the default should not be used) and then identifying those ports as Voice VLAN ports. I guess I just need to know how to flag each interface and each port so that they all can talk to the router on Port 1 yet the voice and data will be in different broadcast domains. Also, do I need a management VLAN??
Is this setup correct? VLAN 1 - default (data) Port 1 (Trunk) (Tagged)Port 2 - 30 (Access) (Untagged)VLAN 2 - voice Port 1 (Trunk) (Tagged)Port 31 - 48 (Access) (Untagged) What should the interface settings be on each port (General, Access or Trunk)? What should the port VLAN membership be on each port (Tagged or Untagged)??
