I want to enable jumbo frame con a Catalyst 4500, specifically in the WS-X4648-RJ45-E card. (running this IOS version Version 12.2(53)SG1).
For what I checked, this are the only needed commands:
vlan xxx
mtu 9000
interface port 4
mtu 9000
exit
I want to be sure that these are the only needed comands and that they won t generate any disruption.

I have a pair of N7K's in vPC topology with some FEXs attached. I am looking into enabling Jumbo frame on the N7K as well as the FEX. I understand Jumbo frame is enabled globally by default.
My question is I have some interfaces in a port-channel that I need jumbo frame enabled. Do I enable it at the port-channel interface or at the physical interface ? and is the change disruptive to the network ? I am running NX-OS 6.0.2.

I have cat4500 with subject module. There is strange behaviour over module installed in 3rd slot only, some ports are connected, UP & working fine. But If I am connecting new ports over same module, are not coming UP.Duplex/speed settings already checked & are fine. If i connect same machine to any other module, it perfectly comes up & operation is fine.

I've had a read through the docs for the 3750 series switches, but nothing that definately says that jumbo frame routing will work on a SVI.One part specifically I'd like clarification on is:The default maximum transmission unit (MTU) size for frames received and sent on all interfaces on the switch or switch stack is 1500 bytes. You can change the MTU size to support switched jumbo frames on all Gigabit Ethernet and 10-Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and to support routed frames on all routed ports. It says supported routed frames on all routed ports, but this in the past has meant physical ports, and not Virtual ones.

I would like to configure Ethernet jumbo frame setting in a C6509E switch with WS-X6548-GE-TX and WS-X6516A-GBIC port modules, and IOS 12.2(33)SXJ1. whether any of these modules can support jumbo ethernet frames up to 9000 per port bases.Also, if none of these modules support port-based jumbo frame MTU then would the switch allow jumbo frames on Ethernet trunks from an access switch (say a C3560)?

I have a pair of Catalyst 3560 GB switches that are trunked with two of the standard ports, and that have trunk ports connecting to a failover pair of PIX 515e's. We're considering adding a pair of cluster database nodes and an iSCSI SAN, both of which would need a dedicated interconnect VLAN that I'd like to employ Jumbo frames on. I don't necessarily need the VLANs to traverse the firewall trunks since they're private interconnects, but I need each host to traverse the switch trunks.
Since it seems I can only enable Jumbo frames on the entire switch (current standard frame size is 1500 and jumbo is also 1500), when I enable it what kind of possible negative impact could this have on my trunked ports as well as my host connections? I've read mixed reviews of users with iSCSI SAN devices seeing terrible performance when enabling jumbo frames so I'm apprehensive about enabling them on an existing network.

I attempted to enable jumbo frames on a Nexus 5010 (NX-OS version 4.2(1)N1(1)). I created the policy map below and lost access to the switch.
policy-map type network-qos jumbo
class type network-qos class-default
mtu 9216
After recovery I see from the logs that all vlans and interface were suspended. I've attempted to look for reasons for a compatibility issue but I am unable to find what is checked and what could have been incompatible. The other troubling thing is the adjacent switch suspended its interfaces too but no change was done there. What I need to look out for so that this does not happen again?

I have a Cisco Catalyst 3100 blade in a Dell server chassis that is trunked to a 6509.
When doing a protocol capture, I see large frames being sent from one of the servers in the chassis.
Example:
TCP:[Continuation to #1701] [Bad CheckSum]Flags=...AP..., SrcPort=HTTP(80), DstPort=2667, PayloadLen=2831, Seq=1489611217 - 1489614048, Ack=1719592331, Win=65535
I see lengths up to 6900+ bites coming from the server.
The switch has the global MTU set to 1500
system mtu routing 1500
and I can't seem to set this at the interface level. The server is configured to send 1500 length frames. Why am I seeing these jumbos? (the server is Windows 2003)

I got some problem with enabling dhcp snooping on 4500 (cat4500e-lanbasek9-mz.122-54.SG.bin) the topology is as below: dhcp snooping enabled only on CORE (with interface trusted to dhcp server)the problem is that I put these 2 commands
ip dhcp snooping
ip dhcp snooping vlan 1
but it is not enabled on any vlan

On B1 if I turn it on there is a "1" in the section " DHCP snooping is configured on following VLANs:" but on core no.As you can see I did put the trusted on the interface in the direction to the dhcp.First I thought it can be a problem with option 82, I've read a lot about the issues with that, but the problem would be explicable if the client did receive IP address, but it does.

We bought a Cisco line card WS-X4648-RJ45-E for Cisco 4507 R-E. Later on I found that this module is not working with the chassis becuase supervisor engine 4 we are using. Supervisor Engine 6 is required for WS-X4648-RJ45-E. Now I want to go for WS-X4548-RJ45. Is it possible to return the line card? Is there any possible way to exchange?

I currently have 4 3560 switches connected in a Mesh topology. These are all set to use Jumbo Frames and so are all the Servers that are connected to these.I now need to connect a 2950 switch to 2 of the 3560's which will have only desktop computers connected to it but i do not want to configure Jumbo Frames on this and any of the desktops.

why the QoS deployment causes ports on 2960 switches to drop packets although there is no bandwidth contension? (output bit/second of the interface)packet drops at threshold 1, queue 2 ( queue 3 in config)
We are using Catalyst 2960 switches and are experiencing issues with QoS. After the QoS, we experience a lot of packet drops and it make the network slow. It appears that the slow performance relates to the egress queuing of each port.

I am trying to setup the WOL for our enterprise. We have a C4500 setup with mutliple Vlans. We are using Microsoft SCCM server to wake up workstations for security update. The workstations are on vlan190 and the Microsoft server is on vlan 441

I've two Cisco 4500 running as core switches for huge and complex network. The two 4500 are going to act as dhcp server for several subnets. The easiest solution would be to split each DHCP pool in two, and assign the first half of the pool to one of the core switch and the second half of the pool to the second core switch. This would be a partial solution since if one of the two fails, the second core switch would not have enough dhcp leases available for all the devices connected for each subnet.For such a reason, I'm wondering if it the 4500 switches support a stateful redundant DHCP servers, so that the two switches can synchronize their DHCP lease tables. If this feature is available, I could define the same pools for both the switches without the risk of having duplicate ip addresses within the network.

is it possible to run a Catalyst 4500 as pure Layer 2 Switch, i.e. disabling "ip routing", but still managing the switch via Fa1, i.e. the defautl mgmtVrf vrf ?I tried the following:

I was not able to reach the Switch even from the same subnet. Only after enabling ip routing I could manage the Switch. I haven't found any command to set ip default-gateway for a vrf. Any workaround to keep routing disabled, but still manageable via VRF?

I was reading the documentation of the Catalyst 4500-X for creating VSS and MEC (multichassis etherchannel).In the VSS specific part, it's written"Cisco Release IOS XE 3.4.0SG does not support Layer 3 MEC".
Can I still use VlanX interfaces ad route through them?In my setup I only have IP addresses assigned to vlanX interfaces (with some VRF-lite magic)[code] Does that sentence only mean that I can't have IP assigned directly to the MEC?

We would like to create a layer 3 ether channel from a access layer switch terminating on our 4500 chassis. Can we configure the ether channel from the access layer switch such that one port on the ether channel is on one line card and the other one is on the other line card?

If I'm upgrading dual redundant power supplies in a Catalyst 4507 from 1000W (data) to 1400W (data), can it be done without taking the switch through a power cycle? I'm guessing no as I read that the switch will not recognize a 1400W PSU in bay 2 if there is still an original 1000W PSU in bay 1.

I just received a new 4510R+E switch with CAT4500e SUP7e Universal Image cat4500e-universal.spa03.01.01.sg.150-1.x01.bin software imag with License Level ipbase. We specified in the order to receive CAT4500e Universal Crypto Image with License Level ipbase. I have since requested and received the latest CAT4500e Univeral Crypto Image cat4500e-universalk9-spa.03.04.00.sg.151-2.sg.bin. Is there anything other that just installing the new image that must be done to allow me to use the Crypto Image? Would this upgrade do anything to change my License Level ipbase?

Does a new Cisco Catalyst 4500 series supervisor 7L-E model WS-X45-SUP7L-E is backward compatible with a Cisco Catalyst 4500 series chassis model 4507R? I've checked on Cisco website for that Supervisor and it shows only new chassis models WS-C4507R+E and R-E, but what about old type of chassis? We need to upgrade that Supervisor as it's out of line, but we don't really want to buy a new chassis as well as it's going to be very pricy.
