Cisco Switching/Routing :: Multiple VLAN Extension From Nexus7k To ASR 1004
Mar 6, 2013
We bought a pair of ASR 1004 to be installed at Primar & Secondary data center and one thing is to run OTV over it, but to do that, I have to extend multiple VLANs from my Core (Pair of Nexus 7010s) connected directly to the ASR is Primary Data center, I looked at some documents but didn't get a good idea about it, extend multiple VLANs from Nexus switch to an ASR.

i am in process of building a new datacenter with 2 nexus7k in core/aggregation and 2 n5k in access layer. I am running fabric path on F2 cards between 7k and 5k, also enabled vpc+ on 7k and 5 both. There are few vrfs on 7k which are communicating with each other through firewall contexts. Now there are few vlans which are used to connect differnt vrfs and firewall contexts on n7k and running hsrp as well. now since these vlans are not traversing FP network i should not logically configure these vlans as FP vlans. But since the vpc+ peer link is a FP link it will not allow non-FP vlans to communicate through itself. I have configured a vpc trunk link between 7k and fws. Diag is attched. Now my question is can i configure vlans used for connecting vrf and fw contexts as FP vlans so that hsrp running between those vlans can communicate with each other over vpc+ peer link on n7k.

I have a network with a Catalyst 3750 as the main switch and then some Catalyst 2960 switches that are plugged in to that. I have a server running windows server 2008 with a couple of virtual machines running in Hyper-V. I created 4 VLANS listed below and gave the 3750 the following IP Address.I would like the 3750 to only be configurable from VLAN 40 but currently every VLAN can connect to it, I noticed in the standard web page settings there was a setting for "Management VLAN" but it was set to 1 and would not let me change it, I kinda assumed that was for the management port in the back.-Now the tricky part, I was trying to set up routing between the VLANs and so far I have only been able to get a sort of "all or nothing" routing to work. I can turn IP routing on and add two or more VLANs to the routing and it works fine. But what I was hoping to do is create a couple of "junction vlans" that would only route to one or two other vlans. For instance, I wanted to create a VLAN 100 that routed to VLAN 20 and 30 but nothing else. I also want to route VLAN 1 just to VLAN 30, and so on. I am able to do each one of the cases but only one, it seems like the switch only supports one "routing table" am I missing something or is this just a limitation of the switch?

We have two Cisco 5505 firewalls connecting to two ISP's . The two internal LAN's on the firewalls are 192.168.184.0/24 & 192.168.186.0/24. We also have a Cisco C3560x layer3 switch with vlan interfaces 184.3 & 186.3. We have two DGS-3100 Dlink layer 2 switches connecting our users to the Layer 3. Ip routing is enabled for intervlan communication & I can reach the Switch interfaces & firewall gateways from machines on both on the vlans. We have pbr enabled on the 3560 & users only on the .186 network can get to the internet. The switch is running the ipservices license & the sdm template is "desktop routing" .
Users on the .184 cannot access the internet but we can ping the layer3 interface & the firewall gateway. [code]

I have a Cisco 1921 Router, a Cisco Catalyst 2960 and a Cisco Catalyst 2970 and I want the router to be able to assign ip-addresses by what VLAN a device is active on.
VLAN1: 10.0.0.0/24
VLAN2: 10.0.1.0/24
The router is connected to the Catalyst 2960 and there on to the Catalyst 2970 so the VLAN1 and VLAN2 is active on the to switches and the Router.is it possible?

I have a Cisco 2901 with the 4port gigabit ethernet switch module that I'm trying to get configured to have a seperate subnet for each port. So far I have it set up so each subnet is a vlan, then on each port I use the switchport access vlan command to tell it which subnet I want that port to be on. However, there is one port that I need to have 2 subnets on. The way I found to do that was to use switchport trunking on that port, but it doesn't seem to be working properly. how they would configure this? Right now I have vlan 101 as x.x.x.17/28 and vlan 103 as x.x.x.53/30. I think where I'm getting hung up is the proper association between the physical port and the vlan subnets.

We're going to be switching some of our gear from Foundry to Cisco, and were looking at the WS-C2960S-48TS-L. We currently have 3 different VLAN's, and I wanted to have 1 uplink back to our firewall (ASA 5550) and then let the firewall do the routing between the subnets. I realize that 1 link will carry the traffic twice then, but is that possibly with those switches to have all three vlans assigned to one port and then just let the firewall do the routing between the vlans or would I need to have 3 uplink ports back to the 5550?

I would like to know if it is possible to assign a 3rd IP address to my end user vlan. Basically the 45xx acts as my end user gateway and has been confirgured as below
interface VlanXX
description Main Vlan
ip address 2.X.X.X 255.255.255.0 secondary
ip address 1.X.X.X 255.255.252.0
[Code].....
Here, due to IP address exhaustion in my end-user network, i want to add one more subnet X.X.X.X/22 to my network and assign one IP more from this range to the above vlan to act as the gateway IP.

I recently bought SG-300 28P to create the VLAN. My network hs 3 subnet 192.168.1.0, 192.168.2.0 and 192.168.3.0.My main net work is 192.168.1.0. I want to divide it to VLAN to eliminate the boardcast storm; especially from the domain 192.168.3.0
But I want all the devices from 192.168.1.0 to access other subnet.

The field engineer has a stand alone 24 port 2900 series switch that he has different equipment connected to and are segmented using VLANs. So for example, he's got ports 1-4 assigned to VLAN 10, 5-12 assigned to VLAN 20, 13-19 assigned to VLAN 30 and 20-24 assigned to VLAN 40. He would like all the gear on VLAN 30 to have the ablity to talk to all of the other VLANS, but VLAN 40 should not be allowed to talk with any other VLAN. Trunking would do no good here since the switch isn't connected to anything and you can only assign one VLAN per port.
Is there a way to do this within the stand alone switch? The only possible way I could think of would be to ensure that each VLAN has an assigned IP number (subnet) and doing this through access lists.

I am in the process of staging a couple of two new Cisco ASR 1004's which are located at two locations with a WAN link in between. I need to set up connectivity between servers plugged directly into each ASR router across the WAN link. The ASR has 16 gig interfaces (gi0/0/0 - gi0/0/7 and gi0/1/0 - gi 0/1/7), and a management interface (gi0). I have connected the WAN link to gi0/0/0 and put an ip address on it. The servers will be plugged into the remaining gig interfaces. I tried to create an SVI (vlan interface) in an attempt to create an L3 interface to support routing to these servers but these routers don't allow SVI's to be created. how to put these server connected ports on a vlan and to create an L3 interface to provide routing to them?

I have a Cisco SG200 26 Port Switch, 2 Cisco WAP4410N Access points, and a VLAN aware Router. I have created 4 VLAN's. For the sake of this conversation lets call them.
98 - Intel Vpro
99 - Management
100 - General
101 - Guest
The Access points are capable of doing V LAN tagging so I plan on having them tag a guest network as V LAN 101. That can get sent to the V LAN aware router and out. No problem. I have some devices, or management pages that I don't want accessible from the general network. (Intel V pro KVM, Remote Management Cards, AP Config Menus, Switch config menu...) . I need to be able to take a V LAN unaware device, plug it into port 1, and have it communicate with V LAN 98, 99 and 100.

Hardware to be used:
1. 2 catalyst 3560 switches
2. all connect to a sonic wall router
I have two companies that work in the same office space. I need to keep these companies seperate on their own vlan. They will however need to share the phone system.(Packet tracer file uploaded to give those who have the time to see what I put together.) [code]

I have two networks at two sites with a dot1q trunk between the two L3 switches at both sites (no routers involved)
SITE A - Cisco 3750 L3 - VLAN ID 50
10.10.50.0/24
SITE B - Cisco 3750 L3 - VLAN ID 50
10.20.50.0/24
I would like to extend the SITE A VLAN to SITE B so that I can move hosts from SITE A to SITE B without needing to change their IP address but the vlan ID is already in use. Obviously the easy solution is to change the VLAN ID for one or other of the sites but both sites contain hosts that run 24/7. Is there a way to join two VLANs with different IDs together. So for example I create a new VLAN 60 at SITE B and associate it with VLAN 50 at SITE A.

I am trying to setup a L2tpv3 VLAN-to-VLAN tunnel. My setup has two Cisco 890 router with Cisco IOS Software version 15.0(1) M4. These routers are connected directly on FastEthernet port 8.
One linux machine is connected on FastEthernet port 0 on each router. The two linux machines are on same vlan. I am trying to establish a vlan-to-vlan tunnel between the routers and send traffic between the linux machines.
I followed the case study 11.4 from [URL] and configured the l2tp-class and pseudowire-class. However, the vlan interface configuration is different on 890 router.
I configured a vlan interface as follows.
(config)#vlan 200
(config)# interface FastEthernet 0
#shutdown
#switchport access vlan 200
(config)# interface vlan 200
I don't see the 'xconnect' command in this context. What's wrong with my configuration?

We have a low bandwith (15-20 Mbit/s) to the ASA from our Client vlan. If i connect the Client to the same vlan as the ASA is, the bandwith (90 Mbit/s) is good.
Here are the Layer 3 Design:
Client -> vlan 2 - Switch - vlan 7 -> vlan 1 - ASA 5505 -> ISP
The Layer 2 Design:
Client -> Gig2/0/13 - Switch - Gig4/0/43 -> Eth0/1 ASA5505 -> ISP
IP Address:
Client: 172.16.2.10Vlan2: 172.16.2.1Vlan7: 172.16.7.1ASA: 172.16.7.2
I assuming the switch has a problem with routing ?It is a stacked Switch with following members:
switch 1 provision ws-c3750g-12sswitch 2 provision ws-c3750g-24tsswitch 3 provision ws-c3750g-24tsswitch 4 provision ws-c3750x-48
And we have following error message in the log from the switch:
%PLATFORM_UCAST-4-PREFIX:
One or more specific prefixes could not be programmed into TCAM and are being covered by a less specific prefix, and the packets may be software forwarded I first get the idea that the switch is overloaded with router traffic. Thats why i assuming i have to check the sdm templates, but i'm not sure if this resolves the issue.
Here are the relevant config:

I have a network with several catalyst 2960 switches and one catalyst 3750. I have created two VLAN and set up the proper routing and everything is working fine there. I have a client/server application that used multicast in the initial start up for the client to determine available servers, the issue is one of my clients is on a different VLAN then the server. I am able to route the multicast using MVR as long as both the server and the client are plugged into the 3750 by creating a static route, making the server a source port and the client a receive port. Unfortunately I need the client and the server plugged in to different 2960s. My question is how do I establish multicast routing between the two and perferably do it dynamically (always route multicast traffic from one VLAN to another).

I have a DC topology based on 2 layers, access and aggregation, based on 2 pairs of N5548Ps, both without L3 Daugher Cards. My intent is to use the aggregation N5K pair as L3 inter VLAN layer, so I configured all the VLAN default GWs there. The 2 layers are interconnected via vPC, in a double-sided vPC topology for some N2Ks and some vSwitches. The point is that, despite connecitivity is working fairly ok, for some applications, like file transfer via either FTP or HTTP, between hosts in different VLANs, the performance is too poor. The file transfer starts ok, but after a while it becomes lower and lower. ICMP is working, but I can see some strange random behaviour, like having some packets taking more that 20 ms (sometimes 40 or more), whilst average is 2 ms.
I read through some articles saying that until you don´t have the L3 license (the one coming with L3 Daughter Cards) you can expect some weird behaviour on L3 level. Is that true?. What can I do apart of purchasing L3 Daughter Cards?. Can I enable L3 Basic license at the moment (I don´t need dynamic routing for now).
Here some excerpts of what I´m saying:
PING results:
10000 packets transmitted, 10000 packets received, 0.00% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 0.809/2.496/57.559 ms

I have been looking into this for a while and I can't seem to figure out why my 2nd vlan is not able to connect properly to the net.
My switch has 12 ports where my devices connects directly, they are all on Vlan 1 and they all work perfectly. on Port 12 I have a dlink router that is connected to a cable modem. the dlink router has an Ip address of 192.168.0.20
I created a second vlan (vlan2) and enabled dhcp relay on it. then I assigned port 9 on the switch to (vlan2)my laptop which is connected to port 9 seems to get an ip address fine and able to ping only some devices on my network (vlan1) and is not able to go out to the internet. I think it has to do with the routes. [code]

I recently set up a small photography business and am trying to get a Cisco 877 and Cisco SG300-10 switch to talk to each other.
What I want is for the Cisco 877 to handle the internet and the SG300-10 to handle the local network,
I have set up 2 vlans in trunk mode on the switch and want vlan2 to manage local traffic and vlan3 to handle the internet.
I have got the 877 connecting to the internet what I dont have, traffic going to vlan2 on the switch from the 877
Look at the running configs for the switch and the router and tell me how to get the vlan on the router to pass traffic to the switch. In a nutshell I am inserting the internet into the switch but am not sure how to progress. I have the c870-advipservicesk9 image file on the router.
