Cisco Switching/Routing :: Nexus 7000 - (service Policy Type Queuing Output) On Port-channel?

Jan 24, 2013

We are planning to implement the following policy map for egress traffic on an Nexus 7000:

policy-map type queuing dd-1p3q1t-8e-out-10G    class type queuing 1p3q1t-8e-out-pq1      priority level 1      shape percent 10     class type queuing 1p3q1t-8e-out-q2        bandwidth remaining percent 5    class type queuing 1p3q1t-8e-out-q3        bandwidth remaining percent 5    class type queuing 1p3q1t-8e-out-q-default        bandwidth remaining percent 90

We are using two N7K's to which is one N5K connected through a vPC. From the N5k we use a port-channel with 4 * 10G. Two of this four ports are connected to on N7K and the other two are connected to the other N7K. On the n/K's we are using vPC.

My question now are:

1. Where i have to connect the policy map? To the port-channel or on each physical interface?

2. When i have to connect this policy to the port-channel, how does i have to set the shape percent, when i would like to reserve 10% from the 40G?    Does i have to set the shape value to 5% on each N7K because vPC?

How to properly power down the Nexus 5000 and the fabric interconnect switches? I have looked up and down cisco's and google web for steps, but they are all coming back with the answer to just disconnect the power cables after you have power down all the windows os and exs servers. Before i do that, I just wanted to make sure that that's the correct way to do it or if there are actual commands that I will need to run on the devices to properly power down. I know that the FI do have a command to reboot, but i need them to completely be power down.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Trigger Packet Drop On WS-C4948

Feb 25, 2013

I am running  (cat4500-ENTSERVICES-M), Version 12.2(53)SG2 on the switch. I have a scenario where I have 3 end user equipments connected to a Cisco 4948 L3 switch. At the switch end port 1/46, 1/47, 1/48 are the terminating points for these 3 devices . I have added these three ports to VLAN140 (switch port access vlan140 on the gig interfaces).

The device connected to 1/46 is the one I'm testing some signalling features on. My requirement is to have intermittent packet drop on this interface so that my signalling associations would go down now and then. I'm trying to simulate a real-time network congestion/latency/packet drop in a simple manner.

I do not want to shut/no shut the 1/46 intf to cause this. Some way to achieve intermittent packet drop on this gig1/46 intf ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 - Power-Redundancy Mode Combined And Power Fail

Feb 28, 2011

I have a 6500 chassis with 2 power supplies. At the moment  I am using the default configuration:

power-redudancy mode redundant

The problem is that an inserted module is in "power deny" state due too insufficient power.

I know, that It's not a good idea to change into combined mode (loss of redundancy), but my customers requested this anyway.

So I will change to combined mode. So here's the 1 million dollar question: "Which modules will go into power deny, if one of my power supplies fails?"

The 6500 config guide states:

"Power supply is removed withredundancy disabled
• System log and syslog messages are generated.
• System power is decreased to the power capability of one supply.
• If there is not enough power for all previously powered-up modules, some modulesare powered down and marked as power-deny in the show power oper state field."

Well, do you know if there's any way to configure some kind of priority? E.g. I definetly don't want by 10Gig Module or WiSM module to be in power deny. Can i statically make sure, those module will be powered on for sure? Like: "power enable module slot_number" How is this calculated? Or is random?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: How To Configure Policy Based Routing On 3750

Jan 28, 2013

In our datacenter we have a 3750 stack with IP base image.  I have enabled PBR and reloaded the switch.  Show sdm prefer says i am using default template.  The reason i want to use PBR is that we have 2 firewalls on the same work and want to be able to have granular control over which gateway out of the network they use but still be able to access all internal resouces accross wan and locally.

Created access list to identify traffic:

access-list 10 permit 10.2.3.59 (test workstation on vlan 3)

Created policy:

route-map TestASA permit 10
match ip address 10
set ip next-hop 10.2.0.3

Assigned policy to the user vlan3:

ip policy route-map TestASA

Results:It changed the default gateway to the above gateway but i could not access any resources on any other vlan, could not access resouces accross wan.
