I am using 10Gig link to connect distribution and access switches. Since we are terminating the cables at multiple locations, we are also doing the link budgeting. The CISCO SFP 10G-LR module data sheet shows two values for the transmit power one of which is maximum power .5dBm and another is minimum power -8.2 dBm. Which value should I choose for the link budgeting.

i tried disabling the diagnostic monitor for the module, did a power enable module command and then reset it but it still fails. this is the third blade that i am replacing in a few weeks and i still get the same error. i am persuded that it is not a hardware since it is the third blade in a matter of weeks. after the module reset, i receive this error % module 3 is operationally off (FRU-power failed)
could an ios upgrade solve this issue? are there any ios related bugs?

Upon closer inspection of the Switch Sys log, I observed the following Sys log error messages: [Module 9 is experiencing the following error: Inline Power Module - PS Voltage bad. ]A sh Mod output indicates the PoE daughter card and Main Module are "ok" - see attached output. It appears issue is related to the the actual Power Supply module and not the blade module and installed PoE Daughter card. I am inclined to open a TAC case for a PS replacement, but wanted to see if this can be resolved without a hardware replacement. At this time all 48 IP phones attached to this module are out of Service.

I have a client(C) and a server(S) nodes plus an intermediate node(I). Each node has a public IP. What I want to do is to transmit some data(whatever) from C to S but this data to go through I. So C ---> S will become C ----> I ----> S. I read something to create a tunnel(ip add tunnel) between C and I and add a route between them ? I tried different examples but did not work at all.

I've got it up and going of course, but I have a concern on the transmit power settings. Originally, the only option it gave me was MAX and -4, which I hadn't seen before, interesting.. -4 of what? 20? 17 probably or I though? At any rate, I went into the CLI to set the power manually, no issues there, though my options are not what I expected, maxing out at 25mw basically, which is fine but.. in setting it manually in CLI, the web interface reports an Error on transmit power. So.. does this work or not? Any survey with this image to verify it's power settings? 15.2(23c)

The IOS version in question can only be installled on an 8MB version of this switch, I have tried to confirm the amount of memory present in the device but I am getting conflicting values depending on where I look.The model number would indicate that this device is a 4MB version, therefore not compatable with the upgrade.Running the show version command from the CLI shows Processor having 8192K/1024K bytes of memory.Accessing the switch via the VMS management interface displays a value of 4MB.

On the router on the other side, I created an acl that matched on dscp 46, but it doesn't match on it. I've tried moving the mutation map to the ingress interface and I've tried setting dscp with a service policy instead of marking COS and using internal dscp. Where is the mutation map supposed to be placed: ingress or egress? Also, I added an entry in the acl on the router to see if I was mapping to dscp 24, and I am:

We have a C4500 with 2 sup V which is showing high CPU values sometimes.When this occures, the switch shows 95-100% for total cpu for a few hours at a time.show proccesses cpu shows process Cat4k Mgmt LoPri with an unusual cpu value of 65% The show platform heath command gave me a high reading for K2FibFC DelFlow which is about 50% at this peak but is normaly around 1%?
what the process K2FibFC DelFlow means and what could be the cause of this peak?
We have a Cisco 6513 Switch. During some parts of the day it is having large amounts of transmit discards on a certain interface because of the amount of data we are pushing. We have determined it is a link problem and not a problem with the switch. The link cannot handle the amount of packets the switch is pushing out. I was wondering if there is a way to create a buffer or a way to regulate the maximum amount of packets that can leave that interface without losing any packets?

I've been having a debate with a colleague about QOS COS values. My colleague says I need to use COS values across layer 2 trunk links between access layer switches and core switches. My argument is if phones are marking packets with DSCP values I don't need to be concerned with Cos.The reason I ask is we're implementing a new phone system, the ip phones will mark RTP traffic wih dscp value EF and Call signaling with DSCP value of CS3. If my understanding is correct I can trust the dscp values of the phones. We are using Cisco 4507 switches which I believe automatically trust dscp values so I would just need a class-map to match the dscp values and apply the output policy map on the egress interfaces as follows? I did a show platform health and GalChassisVp-review has a target of 3% but an actual of 17%. All other actual values were at or below target values. I then went to show platform cpu packet statistics and in the "Packets received by Packet Queue" all queue packet values at 5 sec, 1 min, 5 min and 1 hour avg were either 0 or 1 with the exception of Esmp - that averaged 351/377/317 and 313 respectively. I then checked show platform hardware acl input entries static and the entry type InputEsmpToCPU had a whopping 10121370 hit count. All other entry types were well under that number.

After opening up Solarwinds NPM, I noticed that a few of my interfaces had lots of discards (who knows how long it's been sets the counters were reset)

I'm not the best in the world when it comes to QoS, we do have some VoIP phones, but they are only a specific network, and do not travel outside, since there are used mainly for VoIP training. I do know both interfaces are running the default of FIFO.
I have a stack of 4 Cisco WS-C2960S-48FPS-L switches running c2960s-universalk9-mz.122-58.SE1 code. One of our network monitoring tools is indicating discards on a certain port on the switch. Upon further investigation I am seeing the Total output drops values change in a very odd manner.
The numbers seem to go from 573 to 1146 to 1719 then back down to 573 and it starts the same pattern over: [code]
The port utilization is quite low, the highest I've seen over the past 7 days is 3.5% with a polling period of every 30 seconds using Statseeker. Yet the discards are bouncing all over the place.
I've searched though the bugs for 12.2(58)SE1 and didn't see anything.
What are the best values for "mac address-table aging-time" and "arp timeout" by following scenarios?:- single sg300-10 as layer3-switch with a maximum of 10 local (direct connected) hosts - and a 3750x-stack with 100 local hosts + hsrp with a other stack of the same sort or for asa 5520 as internet gateway for 500 clients?I use at the moment a mac aging-time from 300 seconds and a arp timeout from 3600 seconds.

After stacking two 3750X switches, with four equal power-supply's, with StackWise and PowerStack , still got the next message every few hours %PLATFORM_ENV-1-FRU_PS_ACCESS: FRU Power Supply is not responding (gn4m-rt1p08-04-2)( note that the message revers to the second switch in the stack ) although the stackwise and powerstack on the switches is oke and are working correctly. !
Config : Stack-power in power-sharing mode/strict With CLI on the switch : All the power supply's and stack-power details, prio look OK.
Only: LMS prime /inventory/cisco-view/configure/power supply status result : some power supply's are marked as disabled.with the command > power supply 2 slot a off/on I manage to get the status back to "normal", but after a few hours some power supply's are again marked as "disabled".
Looks like SNMP en IOS difference from opinion.

I have a 6500 chassis with 2 power supplies. At the moment I am using the default configuration:
power-redudancy mode redundant
The problem is that an inserted module is in "power deny" state due too insufficient power.
I know, that It's not a good idea to change into combined mode (loss of redundancy), but my customers requested this anyway.
So I will change to combined mode. So here's the 1 million dollar question: "Which modules will go into power deny, if one of my power supplies fails?"
The 6500 config guide states:
"Power supply is removed withredundancy disabled
• System log and syslog messages are generated.
• System power is decreased to the power capability of one supply.
• If there is not enough power for all previously powered-up modules, some modulesare powered down and marked as power-deny in the show power oper state field."
Well, do you know if there's any way to configure some kind of priority? E.g. I definetly don't want by 10Gig Module or WiSM module to be in power deny. Can i statically make sure, those module will be powered on for sure? Like: "power enable module slot_number" How is this calculated? Or is random?
In a stand alone 3750x switch configuration, can the secondary power supply only act as a redundant power supply (active/standby), or can it become a "pool" of power similar to power sharing mode for StackPower (somewhat active/active)? I understand there is no stack involved here but I'm curious if this functionality is possible.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am monitoring my WRVS4400N with SNMP and create graphs by MRTG. Problem is that data about traffic are strange, very low. I have 50 MB line but max traffic shown on graphs is about 8000 bits per second. Also the "shape" of graph does not correspond with real traffic.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have connected 2 SG500x switches using an SFP-H10GB-CU1M SFP+ Copper Cable module. Since the port shows as a 10G port, I would expect the speed to show as 10G as well. However, it shows as "Unknown". This doesn't leave me with confidence that it is being recognized properly. The link is working properly, but I haven't run tests to verify if I'm getting full 10G throughput or not. Shouldn't it show 10G as the link speed?
