View 9 Replies View RelatedI am still working on the design of my big project and always that you think that every thing is solve, appears a details. We need to deploy a fiber links to some buildings that will have access switches connected to the Core. I have been reading about ethernet ring topologies and quite differents to the hierarchical model because of the using of Ressilent Ethernet Protocol instead of STP or RSTP.My question is which of the next to scheme will be the best?
1.- Deployment an ethernet fiber ring topology with REP? Consider that the edge Switch of this ring will be my Core and this one is connected to my distribution switches in a hierarchical topology. In this situation, Acces Switch 1-A is connected to Acces switch 1-B, Access Switch 1-B to 1-C and Switch 1-C to the Core. Feel fre to recomend me wich switches and considerations are the best. We conssider 1 Catalyst 6506 Chasis for the Core and catalyst c2960s-48-TDL for acces, maybe the 3750x series. Each Acces node in the ring topology will have a maximun of 50 end devices.
2.- Deployment a Fiber ring but not connecting each switch with the next. In this case we want to ensure redundancy to the core wih equal costs path, but because of the ring each switch won´t have equal length link to the core. In this situation, Acces Switch 1-A is not connected to Acces Switch 1-B is connected directly to the core but the fiber cable will take the route to Access Switch 1-B, to Acces Switch 1-C and finnally to The Core Switch. This apply to the other to Switches. Note now that Acces Switch 1-A will have a 281 Ft link to the core and a second 1612Ft. link to the core. Here comes the question this differents lenght will negative affect RPVSTP ? or It doesn´t matter? Can i setup an etherchannel/load balance in this situation?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am installing a network in my small business and was given a spool of Cat5 cable to run wires... I know the length in feet of cable that I was given, but I was wondering if there is some kind of markers on the cable to tell me how much is left... I will be charged for it by foot after I'm done, and I want to know how much I've used. Do I have to just use a measuring tape? Seems unnecessarily complicated... I've checked the wire but can't see any marker of the length remaining.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAt home I have a Cisco 877 router, I also have Optus Cable internet and Telstra Business Direct DSL. I have configured the ATM interface for the Telstra DSL connection through the onboard DSL interface. I have also configured Fast Ethernet port 0 as a vlan2 port, which is configured for use with the Optus Cable internet (this is connected through an Optus Netgear CG3000 router). The Nethgear has DHCP enabled (192.168.0.xxx range), as does my Cisco 877 (10.0.0.xxx range).Firstly, the Telstra Business DSL is due to be connected tomorrow between 9am and 1pm, so it is not physically connected as yet. From my laptop connected to fa3 and using Console connection, I can ping all of the 192.168.0.xxx addresses that exist, as well as my own laptop and a VoIP phone I have connected to fa2 (laptop is 10.0.0.100, VoIP phone is 10.0.0.101 both DHCP assigned, not MAC Reserved either).I can use internet explorer on my laptop to connect to the Netgear router, but no other internet pages. I also cannot connect to my Fuji-Xerox printer at 192.168.0.20 through the web browser, yet I can ping it from the router.I don't have a huge experience with Cisco as yet, and everything I have learnt has been basically self tought. I am looking into doing my CCNA, once I achieve enough funds Now, what I am trying to achieve ideally is, to combine both the Cable and DSL services to in effect double my speed? if this isnt available, a load-balancing type of scenario would also be good. Both DSL plans have a 500gb download limit, but the reason I needed the Telstra DSL is the VoIP phones I am using won't connect through Optus (Optus have locked nearly everything out), and Optus will not give me a STATIC IP address with the Cable, whereas I have on on the Telstra DSL, I would like to Remote Desktop into my main PC eventually.
The IOS on my router is: C870 Software (C870-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.4(6)T7
The Optus Cable Modem IP is 192.168.0.1, the Cisco 877 router IP is 10.0.0.1
The current config (complete, with username & passwords ### out) is below: (Bear in mind there's probably many things thats not needed.Once I get the router working, I will configure my 2960 switch and have all devices connected through this. All devices on my network do not need to stay in the 192 range, they can be 10.0.0.xxx. The DHCP could be disabled on the Netgear (Cable Modem) if that's required as well.

I purchased an old cisco 831 for practical studies for a cisco certification. I purchased the console cable (serial/rj45) and a usb->serial converter cable. However when I open my terminal application (tera term) After I select the right com port (3) and make sure the connection settings are right. It will just sit idle and not show any data from the device. Was I sold a faulty device? It lights up and has three lights on.
Everytime I look at a manual or cisco video I am given the impression the terminal application will just automatically connect. But whenever I try I get nothing.
We have a new building, and I told the cable company run OM3 cable from second floor to 1st FL data closet because we have 4510R SupV-10G at each floor. However, the cable company ran a regular fiber cable instead of OM3 mistakenly. My questions, can I still use OM3 patch cable?? Second questions, can I still have the 10Gig performance??

It's not flapping - it's like the cable isn't there at all. I'm going to try reseating the cable in there and perhaps an all out replacement if necessary. My question - is there any threat of a reboot of the switch stack or of partitioning of the switch stack by trying to get the 2nd cable working?
I have a Home Virgin media cable connection at home. the only way to get this working with my Cisco gear is by putting the superhub on modem mode.On modem mode, it becomes just a dumb modem assigning and IP via DHCPI can get the switch to get an IP address from the modem with
no switchport
ip address dhcp
then I have created
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 fa0/48
to route traffic to the port connected to the mode,The switch gets the assigned Ip address from the modem but it does not route internet traffic.
From the different vlans and subnets on the switch, I can ping the modem.
From the switch I can ping 8.8.8.8
From the machines, i cannot ping 8.8.8.8
On my machines, what should be the gateway? the vlan SVI, the modem's IP address, The fa0/48 ip address? I have tried them all with no success.
I just completed installation of a stacked pair of 3850s in my datacenter. While I was installing them, I noticed that the lights on ports 1-8 on one of the switches were on solid even though there were no cables connected to that switch. I don't see anything in the logs or anywhere else in the CLI that indicate a problem, however the lights remain on. This only happens on switch 1, not switch 2. Once I plugged the cable into port 1, it flashes normally with activity, but 2-8 remain on solid even though nothing is connected to them.
Before I put the switches in place, I had configured them at my desk with the console connection, and those lights were not lit up.
The indicators on the front of both switches are set in STAT mode. I thought initially I had hit the button and flipped it to a different mode, but that is not the case.
I just recieved a new 3560-x switch with the C3KX-PWR-715WAC. It looks like Cisco is now using a different AC power cable. Not the StackPower connector, but the standard AC power cable. My data center is setup to supply 208v using C13 power cables. The switch uses a C15 power cable, and comes with a standard NEMA 5 to C13 power cable. Does Cisco make, or officially support a C13 to C15 power cable? Can I still use a 208v power supply with these switches?
I'm using an APC AP8861 power distribution unit, see [URL]
