Cisco Switching/Routing :: Can 1000BASE-T SFP Work With CAT-6 Cable
Dec 19, 2012
I wonder if Cisco 1000BASE-T SFP can work with CAT-6 cable. I believe it can. But in the Cisco datasheet, it only mentions that “The 1000BASE-T SFP operates on standard Category 5 unshielded twisted pair copper cabling of up to 100m (328 ft) link length”.
Unforunately I have not been able to find any IOS version requirement for a brand-new 1000BASE-LX10 SFP (MGBLH1) in the internet.
The IOS version in use on this stack is:Cisco IOS Software, C3750 Software (C3750-IPBASEK9-M), Version 12.2(55)SE6, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
[Code]...
I have searched for this error and beside a third-party module (this is a Cisco SFP) the reason could be that newer IOS version is required. Before I'll request an IOS update to the stack with our internal team, IOS version required for this module to run properly and maybe a link to an overview to lookup such requirements in the future.
We are looking to purchase some addidtional 48 port swithches for our network. Currently we have the following swtiches setup
2 of 3750 POE-24 (These two are stacked and have our servers plugged into them). Currently no SFP modules.
3 of 3560 POE-24 (These each have two 1000BASE-T SFP modules in them, with UTP connecting back to the 3750 switches above)
We are looking to get 2 of 48 port C2960S-48TS-L switches with two 1000BASE-T SFP modules in each that then will also connect back to the 3750 switches.
I had a few of question about this:
Will the cisco lite version (rather than the more expensive cisco base software) support the 1000BASE-T SFP modules?
The 1000BASE-T SFP modules, are they auto-config? Have you the link for commands we can use, if required?
We don't have budget for stack modules, apart from that would you recommend we change anything with the new setup?
To do that I would like to be able to sniff the traffic traversing our 7k. However, as the 7k doesn't support remote span we have to span locally. This means that I have to connect a pc to the Nexus and sent the span output to that port. However, our 7K is only equipped with N7K-M108X2-12L modules, which contains X2 10G ports. I found the CVR-X2-SFP10G X2 to SFP+ convertor module, but I wonder whether this supports a 1G copper SFP. If it doesn't it would be wasteful to buy one. On the page concerning the module I only found 10G fiber sfp's which are supported.
I have two desktop PCs connected via PRO/100VE LAN and am about to replace one of these with a desktop that has Integrated 10/100/1000Base-T. Will the two machines be able to communicate? One machine will use XP Home and the new machine Windows 7.
I have recently split the voice vlan (10) from the data network (1), and am wondering why my catalysts and router do not require an interface Vlan10 statement. In the past I used OpenBSD boxes to do the routing, and I first needed to configure vlan 10 on the interface before I could get inter-vlan communication to work. With these Cisco devices it works, and I am wondering if it is because of VTP, for the fact that the ports maybe just pass all traffic, or is there some other explanation? Below is the setup, and firmware is up-to-date on all of the devices.
When I plug a phone into the POE SGE, the phone turns on, obtains an address on the proper subnet, and conversations are clear (whereas without the ip nat inside on the new subnet the calls had a lot of static). Possibly the reason that it works is because the phones properly create the tcp/ip packet, and it hops over the trunks and creates the states so that traffic routes back properly. I will install wireshark to see exactly what is going on, but is there a simple explanation that I am overlooking?
The N2K data sheet says that it doesn't, but I want to confirm that it isn't old information. How to have this working and what versions are you using?
Recently I'm working with my client to setup their network and he want me to limit user access internet bandwidth to 2 Mbps and the topology show below.Users ---> Switch ---> NAT Router ---> (int gi1/0/24 - qos apply) Edge Switch ---> INTERNET ROUTER (12Mbps) --->> INTERNET,This is my configuration, but it doesn't work, the end user still able to get more than 2Mbps internet speed.Access-list 100 permit ip any any dscp default,class-map match-all QoS_Floor_Limit, match access-group 100.
I have switch Cisco 3560 and I would like to filter multicast traffic. Short explanation. This are multicast addresses from provider on VLAN 888 :
I expect that streams from acl Streamfrom888 will be dropped and the rest of streams will be forwarded. Unfortunately traffic from all streams passs through.how to configure VACL or where in my configuration is mistake?
I started to set up a 1721 router with WIC-4ESW. This is on an internal network, so only looking to just do routing from FA/0's interface to the networks attached to ports on the WIC. I first assigned just VLANs to 2 of the ports and this did not work. So I did some reading up and decided to use bridge groups. Except I still can not access the interfaces on the WIC. And by that I mean on the router itself I can not ping the ip assigned to the BVI.
I have another 1721 w/4 port that long ago I seem to remember simply assigning VLANs to the interfaces and I was able to communicate between the networks without issue (or maybe I just don't rememer that well). Thing is I should be able to at least ping the internal interfaces shouldn't I (assuming the status is up). I don't know why BVI2 and 3 are listed as down, nor do I seem to know how to bring these up.
This is what ip int br gives me: 1721#sh ip int br Interface IP-Address OK? Method Status Protocol BVI2 192.168.101.1 YES manual down down [Code]....
I have a 2960G that I keep on the bench as a work switch. I assigned an IP address to it. The techs have had trouble imaging workstations using GHOST. Do any config changes need to be made to enable multicast to work? Everything is in VLAN1 at this point and the GHOST server is also the DHCP server.
Just I have upgraded some 2960S to IOS 15.0(2)SE from a IOS 15.0(1)SE3 and the catalyst don't switch any IPv6 traffic. Don't work any RA and also don't work any unicast IPv6 traffic from any interface. I can see some references to IPv6 changes in the FHS (First Hop Security) in the Release Notes, but no any reference to changes in the configuration.
The switches don't have any IPv6 specific configuration and the sdm is the default templata. Returning to 15.0(1)SE3 everything work ok.
On Catalyst 2960, and 3560E this IOS version seem to work fine with IPv6.
I have PC_A and PC_B connected to the same switch, and are put in the same vlan. PC_A is the master (source) and PC_B is the destination (client). IGMP Snooping is enabled by default.
Is there any reason why this should fail? There is no RP or any interface with PIM enabled. Its a flat network with a source and client in the same vlan...

I have C3750X with C3KX-NM-10G, and have-T SFP in slot 3 ( means it is not in SFP+ slot ).I need to set speed&duplex hard to 100/Full, but if I do the link goes down. I have the same settings on the other side, only IOS version is different.I tried other speeds - 10 and 1000, but no one works with Full. When I change duplex to Auto it works fine. The reason why I am doing this on C3KX-NM-10G is because I need to use NetFlow and cannot use the chassis' copper port. At the moment the ports are connected through a copper patch cord, but in full production there will be a radio link in between that requires 100M/Full to be set hard.I am trying to search for any document that would describe this limitation, but cannot find any. Also port capabilities do not indicate duplex could not be set to full:
How to configure a 4500X with a GLC-T SFP so that it will work at 100M.The data sheets say it will work at 10/100/1000 but Im not seeing that happen can't set the speed and it doesn't negotiate with anything at 100M it will only work with auto to another switch set to auto and supports 1000M.
Does the port adaptor PA-MC-2E1/120 work with the Catalyst Switch 6506E (Sup Engine: 720-3B)? We have bought a Enhanced FlexWAN card for this port adaptor.I read through the cisco website and seem to get confusing answers whether they are compatible.
A client asked this question. Below is how I responded:
Q: Will the NFFC for the 4500 series work with a SUP6-E/SUP6-LE?
A: NO.
I have never attempted to install one on a SUP6-E, but there is no documented capability of that SUP to do netflow, either natively or with a daughter card. I can NOT however find any explicit documentation stating it will not work – only lack of documentation stating it will.
Specifically, it will or will not work? I suspect "no" based on how difficult it is to find either component on the same page, but I simply don't know.
make a couple of SF300 switches to work properly with a C2960S-48TS-L that acts as core switch/basic router. I can't seem to figure out how to assign VLANs correctly in trunk and access mode on the SF300. The 2960S are a no brainer with IOS commands but the webgui in the SF300 is a pain.
I've configured the 2960S with 3 VLANs and I would like to have the SF300 switches connect to the C2960S-48TS-L through VLAN trunk and then configure the ports on the SF300 switches to belong to the assigned VLANs of my choosing. I would also like to have all the SF300 switches management interface in VLAN 50.
I have 2 local accounts on a 3750 that kick in should radius be unavailable. If I log in as the admin account it gets priv 15, if I log in as the other user it gets privilege 3 which is correct, by my commands dont work, this is what I have added and the strange thing is I've dont this many times before on our other switches
clarify if the NM-1FE2W or NM-2FE2W will work in the 2610XM? These two pages seems to contradict each other:
[URL]
I've an option on some 2610XM's cheap for my lab, but I need to have 2FE ports in each. Some people have told me the NM-1FE2W and NM-2FE2W will work in the XM's and some others have said they wont!
I have came across this topic, and I am wondering if this images can be uploaded to any 2900 series switches or not, and if this will work as access port for more than vlans. URL...
We just replaced our Cisco 1240 AP in one of our shops with a Cisco 1141 AP. This is not controller based.
We use several wireless (infrastructure mode) auto diagnostic tools which connect to the AP. We also have many laptops which run the diagnostic software.
We had no problems with our 1240AP. With our 1141, we cannot connect to the wireless tools if both the laptop and the tools are connected to the 1141. If I connect one to the 1240 and one to the 1141, they can see each other and work fine. IF they are both connected to the 1141, they show up as connected in the AP, they can ping each other, but the software does not communicate.
I have a Cisco 2940 switch and a Cisco 1841 router. I want to build two different VLAN networks on the switch, which do not have to communicate one with each other, but those VLANS should communicate with the router.
I read a lot of articles, i tried to configure properly the switch and the router but i still don't get them work.
I set on the switch, the GigabitEthernet 0/1 port to Trunk port and i had to set it a native VLAN. The problem is that only from that native VLAN, i can ping the router.
I need to know if LAG channel groups can be used to increase capacity of media converted links? (i.e. wireless links). For example.. aggregating two 1300 series wireless bridges via 2 switches.
If the load balancing is set to src-dst-ip, will a layer 2 switch forward based on that information? Particularly talking about a 6500, with trunk interfaces, since those packets never go to the layer 3 engine, will the load-balancing work as intended?
I have a single Nexus 7K (6.x) with only F2 modules and I would like to SPAN the same source interfaces and vlans to mulitple destination servers (interfaces). When configuring SPAN to a single destination traffic gets replicated successfully but when I add an additional destination to the same SPAN session then none of the destination interfaces receive any traffic. As soon as modify the SPAN to include only a single destination interface it works again. I'm guess this is a limitation of the Nexus 7K 6.x code or the F2 modules.
