Sep 17, 2012When i connect two cisco 2960 series switchs via stright trough cable causes delay in transmission sw1 has vlans and having trunk port connected to router all vlans are able to access internet sw2 is connected to vlan5 on switch1 sw2 has factory default configuration computers on sw2 can access internet but I have low bandwith problem on sw2 there is transmission delay problem?

May 21, 2012I have a Cisco Catalyst 2960 series switch. When I connect another switch or a VMWare Esx server on one of the ports, the port blinks for few seconds and then goes off. When I connect a desktop or laptop or a windows server the ports stay led and I can access resources on the network. However, when connect another switch or a vmware esx server, the port is disabled.
What config in the switch can I check to make sure the ports stay on regardless when I connect a desktop / laptop, switch or vmware server?

Sep 16, 2012A customer contacted us that he can't connect his devices via web since he changed the IP address. Ok, big laugh "type the correct IP" but no. Even if you use the correct IP, no user can't connect anymore to the device. Also via CLI!The only thing that worked was the password recovery procedure. After that everything worked fine.The customer and me tried it again with another 2960, maybe there went something wrong when he did it last time and it was an accident. Nice thought but no: another device same error, no login possible.

It says several times that the stack can be managed from the stack IP address, and that the stack IP address is a system-level configuration item. Feb 7, 2012I have switch 2960 and router that connect with one interface to that switch. the link is trunk and Router function is inter vlan routing between 4 vlan. This netwrok has only one ip address space that is 10.10.2.0/24 and work without problem. We connect cisco switch 2960 with optic link to another switch that in stack 3750 which configured as trunk link and allowed only 3 vlan between them. In the other side netwrok which consist the switch 3750 we have different subnet ip address that switch working in layer 3 too. the problem is that when I permit vlan 210 in the switch 2960 only layer 2 between this switch and the 3750 in network that consist th ip address 10.10.2.0/24 devices, if I disconnect and then connect pc to network he says that he has ip conflict and in the log he show mac address of router that has vlan 210 subinterface configured with 10.10.2./24 subnet. But how I gibe back vlan 210 from permited vlan in trunk devices start normaly working. If I again put vlan 210 to permit vlan in that trunk devices again said that there are conflict ip address and show mac address vlan 210 router subinterface.

May 21, 2013I have a Cisco SG 300-20 as the core switch, layer 3. It is 192.168.4.6 on VLAN1 and 192.168.5.1 for VLAN2 (VOIP). All the ports are set in trunk mode. DHCP relay is setup on this switch.
The phones connected into a layer 2, Catalyst 2960-S switch. All ports are set in trunk mode. Default gateway on it is set to 192.168.5.1.
DHCP for both VLANs is provided by a Windows Server 2008 R2 server (the relay IP 192.168.4.15).
There is also an ASA 5510 in the mix which is 192.168.4.1. It has a route added to it for the 192.168.5.0 network to go to the SG 300 (192.168.5.1).
Just the two switches can ping each other on the 192.168.5.x network when I "add vlan 2" to the trunk port that is connected between the SG 300 and the 2960. The phones don't get DHCP on the 2960 switch. And I cannot ping 192.168.5.x from the ASA or anything else on the 192.168.4.x network.
After a bit of reading on intra-vlan routing for the SG 300 switch, I am thinking the SG 300 has to be the "center" of things so I need to make it 192.168.4.1 to be the gateway for both VLANs and change the ASA to 192.168.4.2 for VLAN1, etc. And I really can't do asymmetric routing with this switch.
Cisco Switching/Routing :: Cat 2960 Shows Mac Address Port As Dropped?
Jul 30, 2012I am configuring a Cat 2960 port for connecting a VOIP phone, authenticated by MAB. On connecting the phone, I get the port authenticated and assigned to the correct VLAN, with LLDP-MED advertising the correct voice vlan. However, I then see no traffic from the phone on the switch. I can see the MAC address of the phone is learned in the right VLANs, but the mac address is showing as "Drop", which normally means the address is statically configured to be blocked. There is no static mac address table blocking configured on the switch.

Feb 5, 2013I have a statck of 4 2960s switches, with POE powered access points on 2 of them. All of the access points appear to be functioning normally. For some reason, on 3 interfaces connected to access points, I get the following when issuing show interfaces status:

Jan 24, 2012I am setting up a new 2960-S switch and none of the recommended username and passwords combinations work. I have tried CIsco Cisco, <blank> cisco and various other permutations.
I have tried to reset the switch to factory defaults and it still doesn't work. The switch is currently connected to a 3560G and has been assigned an IP. If I try to access it from Network assistant it shows as unmanaged and I get prompted for a username and password.The switch is connected to another new 2960-S via a FlowStack module.

Dec 20, 2011I have a cisco2960 with c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-50.SE4 imagebase.This switch is connected with 3 unmanaged switches.Though 2960 is managed and only a single vlan is given accessed to connected other unmanaged switches.Problem is this, if at user end, a laptop is connected ( Microsoft Vista OS) and its IPv6 is checked in the LAN properties settings then the laptop's IP address changed from our VLAN to 192.168.100.x series and due to this other connected user's DNS addresses become changed.Hence I want to block this IP or its MAC on Cisco 2960.
