Cisco Switching/Routing :: Configure 2960 Stack IP Address?
May 20, 2013
This is probably a dumb question, but I have read the 2960 stack administration guide and it does not explain how to configure the stack IP address. It says several times that the stack can be managed from the stack IP address, and that the stack IP address is a system-level configuration item. But it never explains how to configure the stack IP address.
I configure 3750 stack switch as core and 2960 stack switches as access layer switches.I connected my laptop to one of my core stack in VLAN 10 and I am pinging to one of my server in VLAN 1. What will be the minimum latency at the time of inter VALN routing
I have an existing stack of 4 x 2960-S switches connected by stack cables.I would like to add another 2960-S switch to the stack but am unable to as the 2960-S will only allow 4 x 2960-S switches per stack.how I would add the 5th 2960-S switch to the existing stack of 4 x 2960-S switches.
How would I go about stacking 4 Cisco Catalyst 2960-48PST-L switches? The one switch needs to accept a fiber connection from a distribution switch. Do I have to buy flexstack module and cables? If so where does the module go on the switch? If this switch cannot do this set up, any other switch I should look at.
We have a 2960 stack of 4 WS-C2960S-24PS-L switches.Sometimes, at random, the stack crashes and reboots. I have downloaded the crashinfo file and can see the following error.
We have a pair of WS-C3750X-24T-S in a stack and four WS-C2960S-48TS-L in a stack of their own. There is not really anything too fancy configured (no special VLAN configuration/trunks or etc.) but the 3750 do have two ports configured as L3 for routing. We are not trying to use those ports for EtherChannel. These devices are running IOS 12.2(55)SE3 Essentially we are attempting to make an EtherChannel group using port 48 on all four of the 2960's in their stack (four ports). On the 3750 we will configure an EtherChannel group using port 23 and 24 on both switches (four ports). We then connect them up to form a four member EtherChannel. The ports on both ends are configured as mode ON and they are all 1Gb ports. I elected mode on because I understand at least one of the EtherChannel protocols will not work cross stack. What I would like to ask is whether the above configuration is possible or are we hitting some sort of limitation of EtherChannel cross stack, etc..? I cannot find anything to suggest this configration is invalid, but thought I would ask to see if I missed something in the EtherChannel articles.
On first floor, I have two stack switches and each stack has got 4 switches. they all are working fine. Now the client would like to add one more stack on the 2nd floor. But the second floor switches are different when compared to the 1st floor switches.
can you have differnt IOS among different stacks. I knew in a stack we need all the switches should have same IOS version. But in between two stacks to communicate do we need same IOS or they can be on differnet IOS?
1st floor switches have 15.0 version and 2nd floor new switches has 12.2.58. Is this ok ?
1st floor switches are 3500 series ( Note: only one one Vlan 20 we are using on the both stack switches and we would like add same Vlan 20 on to the new stack)
2nd floor switches aew 2 catalyst 2960 switches.
Note: on the second floor switches one is 24 port switch and the other one is 48 port switch. so can i make them as a stack?
We have already done cabling from 1st floor to second floor. So no problem with that at all.
I have two Cisco 48 port Catalyst 2960-S series SI. Instead of buying the pricy stack modules can I only use the SFP+cable to connect them as stack? which type of SFP+cable should I buy? do I need any license to use those SFP ports?
below is the current config of link that is already up. I need to add another fiber redundant link between 6509 and 2960 stack. How to work on config Spanning side by not taking 6509 down after the change. 6509 is in distribution.
2960 switch stack (flex) Spanning tree re-calculate from stack port one?I need to identify with port in the stack is causing the re-calc I have four 48 port switches and show spanning detail only indicates stack port 1.
I have a question for Cisco Cat.2960-s Flex Stack switches which are installing on our sties. Two of 2960-s Stack switches as access switch and two of Cisco ME 3600X Series as distribution layer switches are to be installed in our sites. In case of two stack switches, One is will be a Master and the other one will be a member logically, as you know. So, if the master fails, the other one automatically becomes the stack master following a well-documented election process.
Now, it is my question. How long takes to be a stack master from a member switch ? I cant find it on white paper of Cat.2960-s flex stack . And also, I heard that sometimes a member switches don't election process when the master fails as a result, all stack members become a panic. Is that really right ? In addition, I heard that the stack switches have many troubleshooting points than stand alone switches. I really wanna know if the stack switches are good solution for resilience of huge network site. I'm waiting an answer from those who have experience of maintenance or installation.
I am trying to configure a new 2960 POE switch, but seem to me the int fa0 is layer 3 interface. Is any way we can convert it to a switchport, so we can connect it to other switch in trunk mode?
I have two stacks 3750X on two different sites with two links L_2_L, and I want to configure the port channel to aggregate the two links.
Site A Site B 3750X -A1 --------------------------------------( )--------------------------------------- 3750X -B1 ( L-2-L ) 3750X -A2 --------------------------------------( )--------------------------------------- 3750X -B2
Below the configuration that I have put the two stacks.
site A interface Port-channel5 description Etherchannel group entre le stack 3750X-A et Switch Lan_2_Lan switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q switchport trunk allowed vlan 11,12,999 switchport mode trunk switchport nonegotiate speed 100
But the problem is only one link is Bundeled in channel group, see below
Group Port-channel Protocol Ports ------+-------------+-----------+----------------------------------------------- 5 Po5(SU) LACP Gi1/0/15(I) Gi2/0/15(P)
Today in my rush to get home I plugged in a new 2960 stack and did a little bit of very basic configuration, but no passwords were set. I tried to telnet in and the message says that a password is required, but none is set. I tried the SDM as I hadn't turned it off yet and it is prompting me for a user/pass but I have no idea what to put in there. No console is available, it's a new office so no employees around either.
configuring a working route between two subnets (172.28.0.0/16 and 192.168.0.0/24) on a Cisco Catalyst 2960-S.
Problem: The subnet 172.28.0.0/16 is on VLAN 40 and the clients on this subnet have to access a preconfigured device with an ip in 192.168.0.0/24 subnet. The configuration of this device cannot be changed.
I have an Cisco 2960-S Lan Base (c2960s-universalk9-tar.150-1.SE3) switch [URL] that I would like to use to solve this problem.
I have 2960 cisco switch. I want to configure private vlan. But it is not getting configured in cisco 2960. Is there any other way to configure that in switch.
I'm about to configure radius on a 2960 and 2955 switch as I have been testing this on a 1841 router and to my dismay I can't see the options to configure radius, do these L2 switches not supoprt radius?
edit - apoligies I forgot the "aaa new-model" all ok now
I'm trying to configure an 1142N AP + 2960-S + ASA5505 with wireless, vlans and trunking with no success. DHCP is provided from my DHCP-server on the inside.
I am trying configure tacacs authentication for http in Cisco 2960 with IOS 15.0.1.SE. [code] But the device is not authenticating. It ask the credentials (user and pass) but not authenticates.
I have two 2960's in this new environment that I am administering. I am receiving a message on one unit (Designate it 2960-2) of %IP-4-DUPADDR: Duplicate address 192.168.168.8 on Vlan1, sourced by 3037.a63e.540. The "sourced by" address is the 2960-1. I do not know how these units were originally set up. How can I determine where the duplicate address is originating from. When I perform an ARP -a the address that corresponds to the 192.168.168.8 is the mac address of the ethersvi interface on the 2960-1. I
I have switch 2960 and router that connect with one interface to that switch. the link is trunk and Router function is inter vlan routing between 4 vlan. This netwrok has only one ip address space that is 10.10.2.0/24 and work without problem. We connect cisco switch 2960 with optic link to another switch that in stack 3750 which configured as trunk link and allowed only 3 vlan between them. In the other side netwrok which consist the switch 3750 we have different subnet ip address that switch working in layer 3 too. the problem is that when I permit vlan 210 in the switch 2960 only layer 2 between this switch and the 3750 in network that consist th ip address 10.10.2.0/24 devices, if I disconnect and then connect pc to network he says that he has ip conflict and in the log he show mac address of router that has vlan 210 subinterface configured with 10.10.2./24 subnet. But how I gibe back vlan 210 from permited vlan in trunk devices start normaly working. If I again put vlan 210 to permit vlan in that trunk devices again said that there are conflict ip address and show mac address vlan 210 router subinterface.
I Have a problem I'm trying to configure automatically my switch over ther DHCP when I start the switch it request an IP from the DHCP from here everythings is fine but it does nothing more, indeed I put on my dhcp the option 66 and 67 which is an adress of my TFTP server and a file to download and the switch seems not to understand theses options , I tried my dhcp with a cisco airport and everythings works fine the File from the TFTP is automatically downloaded into the airport...There is an option to add or am I missing something in order to make it work with my switch ?
As per the attached diagram: How do I configure the 2 ports on the 3560 (Ports 6 & 7) and the connected ports on each of the 2960 switches (Port 25) to provide redundancy.
If the up link from Switch A dies then I need the traffic to flow through the trunk and utilize the up link on Switch B with minimal delay (milliseconds).
I need to configure a Cisco 2960 switch as a DHCP server. The current IP address will be on a different seed than the DHCP addresses. i.e.
Switch IP = 10.1.2.3, GW = 10.1.2.1, Subnet = 255.255.255.0 DHCP addresses would be 192.168.1.1 - 200, GW=???? (10.1.2.3?) and subnet would be 255.255.255.0
I am configuring a Cat 2960 port for connecting a VOIP phone, authenticated by MAB. On connecting the phone, I get the port authenticated and assigned to the correct VLAN, with LLDP-MED advertising the correct voice vlan. However, I then see no traffic from the phone on the switch. I can see the MAC address of the phone is learned in the right VLANs, but the mac address is showing as "Drop", which normally means the address is statically configured to be blocked. There is no static mac address table blocking configured on the switch.

I have a cisco2960 with c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-50.SE4 imagebase. This switch is connected with 3 unmanaged switches.Though 2960 is managed and only a single vlan is given accessed to connected other unmanaged switches.Problem is this, if at user end, a laptop is connected ( Microsoft Vista OS) and its IPv6 is checked in the LAN properties settings then the laptop's IP address changed from our VLAN to 192.168.100.x series and due to this other connected user's DNS addresses become changed.Hence I want to block this IP or its MAC on Cisco 2960.
