Cisco :: Upgrading WLC 4402 From 4.2.176.0 To 7.0.230.0?

Apr 7, 2012

I am in the process of upgrading my 4402 to version 7.0.230.0 and am confused on the premise of the firmware and the bootloader. From what I currently understand, I can upgrade directly to the 7.0.230.0 firmware from my current 4.2.176.0, then I should upgrade to the latest bootloader image. But I have also seen posts where I should update the bootloader software to the latest version, then put on the latest firmware.

I have seen conflicting reports where I must step through each bootloader version, 4.x to 5.x to 6.x to 7.x to make sure I have all the fixes, but I have also seen instructions, where you can jump to the very latest and the fixes are cumulative.

Cisco :: Upgrading WCS 7.0.164.0 To 7.0.172.0?

May 18, 2011

I'm trying to upgrade my WCS from 7.0.164.0 to 7.0.172.0 but it keeps throwing me into the manual process because it detects multiple versions.  Seems a previous upgrade from 6.0.132 to 7.0.164 did dot remove the 6.0.132 directory or files.

Am I safe to delete the 6.0.132 directory/files and trying again?

Cisco :: Upgrading WLC 4404?

I need to upgrade our Wireless Lan Controller to support new APs. I was able to get the new code due to a security advisory on the code we are running now. I am upgrading from 6.0.196.0 to 7.0.220.0 (MD). I have read in some of the technical docs that the WCS has to match the WLC. I cannot find any documentation as to what this entails on the WCS.

WCS version is 6.0.132.0 running on Windows.

Cisco :: 1020 Upgrading WCS And WLC

Jan 30, 2011

I'm planning on upgrading our wireless lan controllers and WCS. I would like to upgrade the controllers to 4.2.209 as our 1020 APs will not be supported by any later version, I think. And, I would like to upgrade our WCS to 6.0.181.0 so it's ready for when we upgrade our controllers to 6.x.x.x after we get some APs that can support it. Is the 6.0.181.0 on the WCS going to give me any problems monitoring or administering the controlllers if they are only 4.2.209?

The Cisco WCS release must be the same or more recent than the controller software release. Upgrade the Cisco WCS first to prevent any unexpected problems. Cisco WCS supports database upgrades only from the following official Cisco WCS releases: [code]

Cisco :: Certificate Authentication At WLC 4402

Jan 18, 2012

we  are using Cisco Aironet 1130 AG and a Cisco 4402 WLC in our network. The certificate service is installed on a Windows 2008 R2 server. We use a standalone Root CA with a Enterprise Sub CA hierarchy. Issueing certificates to clients works fine. The vendor and ca certificates are installed on the WLC and the user have his user certificate. During implementation we used following document: url... Instead of Anonymous Bind, we use a service user to read in AD (works fine, too).

We use the Intel/PRO wireless utility on our Testclient and configured it for EAP-FAST and TLS. We can select the installed certificate in the utility, but when we try to connect, the utility throw the message: "Authentication failed due to an invalid certificate".We´ve logged the WLC and thats a part of the logfile (i´ve greyed out all enterprise data): [code]

Cisco :: WLC 4402 Not Implementing PEAP?

Jul 24, 2011

I was able to successfully implement MS-PEAP authentication with 5508 WLAN controllers and Cisco ACS v4.2. However, when I integrated 4402 WLC with version code 7.0.116, it did not pass across any authentication requests. Did a debug aaa events enable and there was no output. Configured another SSSID with PSK to test that my controller was OK and aaa debug was working, and there were CLI messages when I associated an AP.

why the 4402 is not working as I have compared configs with the 5508 and there is no difference. The shared secret is configured on both ACS and Controller and CA is downloaded on the ACS.

Cisco :: 4402 WLC / LMS 4.2 Threshold Coming

Mar 1, 2012

I'm using RADIUS and FlexConnect APs. The issue is intermittently users will lose connectivity as if they're de-authenticated. Their clients still believe they're associated to wireless but they have no network connectivity. On Windows 7 we receive the exclamation point over the signal strength indicator.

There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason as to what is causing this. It doesn’t seem to happen at any particular time intervals or anything else I can identify. Sometimes users will go entire days without experiencing connectivity issues sometimes they can’t go five minutes. When the clients are experiencing the issues they cannot even ping their default gateway.

The setup was initially the following:

Site A: 1142N APs and RADIUS server (server 2003) users are authenticating to.

Site B: Flex 7510 running code 7.0.116

Between site A and site B there is a site to site VPN with no restrictions.

After some time of working with TAC and not getting anywhere I setup the following:Site A: 4402 WLC running code 7.0.116 connected the same 1142N APs HREAP mode.  I had the same issue with connectivity with that setup.Today I changed over to local mode and as of yet I haven’t had reports of connectivity issues.

When running ‘debug client MAC’ I see no indication of connectivity issues. I also have an NCS and I don’t see anything indicating what the issue is there as well. I’ve tried with both enabling and disabling ‘H-REAP Local Auth’. We seem to experience the issue in H-REAP standalone mode as well.

Cisco :: 4402 / Wlc Max Database Size?

Jun 28, 2011

I have a 4402 being used as a dmz anchor and we use WCS to allow our Helpdesk to create lobby ambassador accounts. Recently they have been getting error messages when attempting to create accounts. I am seeing the database maxxed out at 2048. The docs state database entries are made up of mac filters(don't use)..ap mic/ssc(don't use)..Dynamic interfaces(minimal) management users(2) local netusers (100 approx)..and excluded clients(none). So the numbers don't add up.I am on 4.2.61.0 code.. I will say also that WCS shows alot more netuser accounts than my anchor does but no where the numbers to max out the database. Is there some other criteria that hits against the datasbase number??  And what can I do on the WCS to insure it si synch'd up against the dmz anchor other than a audit..
