Cisco WAN :: 1800 Cannot Connect Or Ping Hosts On Other Side
Jul 13, 2011
I have recently bought two 1800 cisco routers and have tried to connect them over wan serial link, but I am having problems when trying to access resources on the other side. I am a newbie to cisco and I wonder if the problem is with the configuration or the new routers or the serial link between the sites. Below is the show-running config results I have done on both routers; I can ping the serial interfaces from both sides and remotely, but I can't ping hosts or FE from other side.

I am just setting up a simple scenario with a 1841. Server @ 172.31.1.1 cannot ping 172.31.0.254 or 172.31.0.105. It can ping 172.31.1.250. The router can, on the other hand, ping devices on both networks. This is just for testing routing theory so I don't know why hosts on either side of the network cannot ping each other.
I am only using the FastEthernet interfaces on Router 1841.

I have a BEFSR41 (wired) router. On the LAN side, I'm using all static IPs, and have the local DHCP server turned off. On the WAN side, I'm using DHCP. When I plug my laptop (which runs Windows 7, and has a static IP set up) into the router, sometimes I can't connect to any hosts on the WAN side, even though other machines on the LAN side can connect to hosts outside. If I run Wireshark, I see the following happening over and over. [code] When this occurs, the laptop can nevertheless connect to the embedded web server running on the router, and, there, I can tell the router to release and renew its WAN-side DHCP lease.

i successfully established site to site with 2 two ASA 5010. The problem is that traffic on not passing, This is current setup:1) Left side : only 1 private network 3) Right side : 1 private network, management network, 2 DMZ networks with public IP, On right ASA some netting is setup so servers in DMZ can be reached from private network. The goal would be that VPN client on left side can reach all resources on the right side (except management network, Just to get things going tunnel is built with only left and right private networks, but after tunnel is established i can't ping anything on other side.

I would like to allow PING on RV042 from WAN side only from specific IP address, but when I set the rule, RV042 does not respond on WAN side, because Block WAN Request is Enabled.BUT! When I disable "Block WAN Requests", now any IP can ping my router from WAN side. Although I set access rule to Deny Ping from WAN side to anyone, it still responds.

I have installed a couple of SRP547W's and can't ping the external side of the ADSL interface.
Is there an option to turn on "respond to ping" and also are you able to forward to a internal IP?

I've set up a simple lab network of two cisco routers 2611XM and to each router I've attached a computer (host). I have set up a dhcp ip addresses for each host. I've set up a correct routing as well on each router. There are 3 networks: 192.168.1.0/24 192.168.2.0/24 192.168.3.0/24 The first network between the first host and first router, second is between two routers and third is between the second router and second host. If I use first host (192.168.1.20) I can ping to any ip address (192.168.1.1 (router 1), 192.168.2.1 (router 1), 192.168.2.2 (router 2), 192.168.3.1 (router 2)) except the second host ip address which is 192.168.3.20. When I sit on the second host (192.168.3.20) i can ping to 192.168.1.1 (router 1), 192.168.2.1 (router 1), 192.168.2.2 (router 2), 192.168.3.1 (router 2) but i can't ping to the first host which is 192.168.1.20. I've even tried with attaching a switch to a router and assign it an ip address of 192.168.1.3 and the ping was echoing to it.

I have, what I believe to be, a simple issue - I must be missing something. Site to Site VPN with Cisco ASA's. VPN is up, and remote hosts can ping the inside int of ASA (10.51.253.209). There is a PC (10.51.253.210) plugged into e0/1.
I know the PC is configured correctly with Windows firewall tuned off. The PC cannot get to the ouside world, and the ASA cannot ping 10.51.253.210.
I have seen this before, and I deleted VLAN 1, recreated it, and I could ping the local host without issue. Basically, the VPN is up and running but PC 10.51.253.210 cannot get out

I am using Linksys E4200 wireless router. I connected two machines, this way.
|LAP1|--------(LAN ethernet connection)----------|LinksysE4200|-------(Internet wired connection)--------|LAP2|
On the Linksys E4200, the Internet wired connection side, I gave static IP address which is in the same network range as that of LAP2.When tried to ping from LAP1 to LAP2, ping doesnot happen. Any settings by which I can ping from LAP1 to LAP2.

I purchased this router a few days after its release, and I was very impressed with its functions. I came from a DD-WRT flashed router with all the bells and whistles, and the E4200 lacked some features but I felt it was a fare trade off for the GHz & dual band. All was well with all my settings (quite a few to name QOS,forwarded, etc)I also updated the firmware when it came available and re entered same settings.
Approx 3 months after use I had 0 WAN connection via eth0 or WIFI, when I logged into router I was pulling a Public IP from my ISP. I could ping from inside the router but no connection on any hosts, very strange. Powercycling Modem/Router yielded same results.. I then backed up my vast amount of settings, and did a 30/30/30 reset.. With no configs I had no issue browsing on any host on my network. So I restored from backup and the issue was back again..So I did another 30/30/30 reset. Then went and reentered the exact same settings as before and the issue was gone.

I'm trying to setup an ASA and a UC540 side by side, to utilize the ASA for data networking and the UC540 for voice. This 'should' work fine, I just seem to be having an issue where the ASA seems to be blocking traffic from the voice network as it passes through. So here is the LAN setup:ASA: 1.1.1.1UC540: 1.1.1.2The UC has a voice vlan 10.1.1.1/24 and a service module at 10.1.10.1/30My PC uses the ASA as its default gateway, 1.1.1.1The ASA then has static routes to the UC networksRoute 10.1.1.1/24 1.1.1.2Route 10.1.10.1/30 1.1.1.2Ping from PC to the UC networks works fine. However, ping from the UC networks to PC fails. ASA logs show traffic being denied due to not having an established connection or something. My guess is that the traffic is being blocked because the egress and ingress paths are different? Traffic from the PC goes to the ASA, then gets routed to the UC and it works. However in the other direction, traffic from the UC is going directly to the PC and bypassing the ASA, because its a directly connected network and doesn't have to route through the ASA to get to the PC. The reply traffic from the PC DOES go through the ASA following its route table, thus the issue of the ASA not seeing the established connection?Same-security inter and intra interface is enabled. So I think I see the issue, I just don't know how to fix it. Is there something I can configure on the ASA to allow for this? My only other option would be to configure a /30 on a new vlan to handle the routing between the UC and ASA or something, but that seems like its going to make this simple setup way too complicated with extra networks, vlans, trunks, etc.I am running ASA version 8.4.5?

My E1500 enters a state where the LAN-side (broadcast, etc.) works, but the WAN-side (internet connection) just goes away. If I go unplug and replug the E1500 the internet connectivity comes back. When this happens, the wireless indicator on my desktop (Dell with Intel wifi) says I have an internet connection, but I clearly don't.

We recently had the Aironet 3502i APs installed in our infrastructure and are having a bad time with hosts connecting to them. The controller sees them, they have an IP, they are showing a solid green light, but you cannot get devices to connect. If you reboot the device you get about 5 seconds of connection and then it disconnects. The only cure seems to be rebooting the APs, but I am baffled why this keeps happening. The installer is blaming our devices, but it is happening to laptops, thin clients, and even cell phones. From what I've seen, everything works fine until, i believe, the device tries to refresh it's lease and is unable to do so.

I have the CISCO 1800 and I have there the HWIC-2T. I have two questions.First is an easy one. I want to replace the HWIC-2T with HWIC-4T but the CISCO 1800 guide and the HWIC-4T guide says that they dont fit together but I inserted the HWIC-4T in to the CISCO 1800 it recognized him with all the 4 Smart Serial ports that it hase. The question is, how can I check if the CISCO 1800 supports the HWIC-4T?Second question is how can I configure one of the Smart Serials in the HWIC-2T/4T to comunicate with the X.25 Protocol? What I have now is at one end CISCO 1800 and at the other end CISCO 2800 and they are comunicating with each other throught one of the Smart Serials they have. I want to connect to each one of then an old pc that comunicate only with X.25 and I want this two computers to comunicate with each other throught those two routers.

Imagine organization has about 300 partners. Currently data center has 100 Cisco 1800 routers to accept P2P connections for each partner.
Now organization proposal is:
- Use MPLS and use an extranet network. Advertise a certain unique route to each partner..
- Grant unique VPN ID for each partner and VRF Lite at the data center. Then bring each partner with separate tagged VLAN to the data center via MPLS.
Can VRF Lite scale to more than 300+ partners OK?

I have a client that has 6 public IP addresses. He needs to use 3 of them. One for workstations which is currently working fine. It is using the default gateway IP. One for a email/web server which has a statis NAT and is also working fine. But we need an additional NAT but it is for 3 servers that all need to go out as the smae public IP. I am not sure and been unsuccessful getting those to go out as the same IP. I either cannot get them to exit the same IP or it breaks the workstation NAT.
Workstations would be 10.0.0.100 - 200 going oput the FE1 interface or I think x.x.94.122
Email would be 10.0.0.5 going out the statis NAT of x.x.94.123
I then need 10.0.0.2 - 4 to go out x.x.94.124
I removed some ACLs and IP info for security. Attached is the current config.
interface FastEthernet0

I don't know much about routers, but lately I've been playing around with router configuration and getting better but I am kind of stuck now.
The scenario is this.
I have 3 ip net from the ISP:
178.249.51.0/255.255.255.248 Gateway 178.249.51.1
178.249.51.8/255.255.255.248 Gateway 178.249.51.9
178.249.51.16/255.255.255.248 Gateway 178.249.51.17
[Code]....
I am also wondering - when we get more public IP net from the ISP, is this the correct way to do it?
