Cisco WAN :: 881s Running OSPF - Losing Adjacency And Then Getting Back
Sep 19, 2012
Our remote 881s are running ospf with the DMVPN headends. Recently, I've been testing a couple 881s using eigrp. I've configured eigrp on the headends so I can test the 881s using eigrp. They seem to be fairly stable and are getting all the redistributed routes from ospf but, I've noticed when I show the eigrp neighbors the uptime will indicate that it is resetting every so often. Sometimes the routers that are using eigrp have a uptime of 12 hours and some will resett after a couple of hours. So, I started logging. [code] why I could be losing the adjacency and then getting it back right away?

I have some c3560 with system MTU set 1546 with interface VLAN10 whose MTU size is 1546 and there is no possibility to change it to another value. and we have some cisco 2600 where I can't set MTU bigger as 1500. I have a problem in establishing the OSPF adjacency between cisco 2600 abd 3560 , the command "ip ospf mtu-ignore" is set on both side but it doesn't work - the OSPF packets which are sent by c3560 are simply lager as 1500 bytes and are dropped by cisco2600.
the problem is that sometimes c7200 losses their BGP session, I would say in most cases it happens between NPE400 and NPE-G1/G2 whit error message like "session closed by a peer x.x.x.x" after some seconds BGP session goes again UP , and then after some minutes again DOWN .
it can be MTU problem, as the traffic passes those c35660 with MTU1500. The neighbour status showes that "transport tcp path-mtu-discovery" is enabled an all neighbours but it seems doesn't work. if I disable the path-mtu-discovery on the neighbours - the BGP session between them stays stable.

We have ASA5510 at our perimeter and is running OSPF on inside interface.
1. Iam planning to add DMZ and adding th DMZ subnet also to OSPF process for advertising the DMZ dynanmically into network.
Any security risks?
2. Near future we will add BGP and a perimeter router (Internet router) with Dual ISPs and to advertise the default route from Internet router to OSPF domain- Planning to enable OSPF between Internet router and ASA outside interface and redistribute BGP into OSPF. Would like to know the security risks in doing so. Sample configs below for step1 & 2.
Current:
ASA:

I was trying to setup a Nexus (5596 running NX-OS 5.1(3)N2(1)) to use the "ip ospf name-lookup"command that I am using on IOS-based routers. Unfortunately this command does not appear to be supported on NX-OS and I cannot find a replacement. Is this another feature that's left out of NX-OS?

Currently the OSPF network consist of 2 segment route via static route. One is AREA 0 and another AREA 10.Both network are seperate entity, only static route to route between 2 networks. But the static route do not provide the dynamically and flexibility, I plan to run routing between 2 networks via VLAN160 and VLAN162.
I still want to manitnace it was 2 different OSPFrouting domain. Can I run OSPF with differrent OSPF porcess ID?

I have a production L3 3750 stack with 2 WAN connections, which is connected to the companies WAN infrastructure using EIGRP.Recently there have been a number of hello drops from one site, which is causing the EIGRP adjacency to drop and so the whole site goes down from the rest of the WAN. Physical cabling has been replaced towards the ISP router, and the ISP have found no issues on their equipment or circuit.on occassions the utilisation is high on the link, so reasons for the hello packets to be not reach the end point, but other times the links are lowly used. The WAN links are active/standby, so the active is always used, but the EIGRP adjacency is dropped by both links.

I have 2650XM router and 2620 Router Both routers have built in WIC T1 CSU/DSU cards
2620Router --
2620Router#sh int se0/0
Serial0/0 is down, line protocol is down
Hardware is PQUICC with Fractional T1 CSU/DSU
Description: DTE side
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1544 Kbit, DLY 20000 usec,
reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
Encapsulation HDLC, loopback not set

My question is that cisco website says there are two type of cable connections for this type of config --which are --T1 CSU/DSU ConfigurationSet one CSU/DSU to clock source internal, and the other CSU/DSU to clock source line. The linecode, framing, data-coding, and timeslots must be set the same on both CSU/DSUs.Four-Wire 56k CSU/DSU Configuration For my network connection which type of config i should use??Secondly i try to connect these ports by normal crossover cable it did not work.So for this type of connection i know i need T1 cross over cable-- which has RJ 48 connections at both sides.I check cable from ebay which is RJ45 RJ48 cross over -- will this cable work in my router to router connection.

Just to get this clear as having issues with a E1 link with CRC's at one.Router A,Network-Clock-Participate WIC 1,Should router B have clock participate for WIC 1? We currently have controllers set as UNFRAMED but guess we can set to NO-CRC4 both ends and telco will pass this.

I'm looking for instructions on how to setup and connect two RV082 routers together with a crossover cable between their WAN ports. This is to connect two separate LANS together via an ethernet connection. For staging we are setting everything up with a crossover cable in our shop. Ultimately the crossover cable will be replaced by a microwave link between the two LANS several miles apart. There will be no internet connection.

securing a back-toback connection using E1.The connection is between two cities, using 2x CISCO 1841 router + VWIC-1MFT-E1 interface at each city.
The E1 connections has been provided by our local telco, and they are completely private. The customer is a bank, and they asking me if this is a secure connection or not. If possible, we need to guarantee that no body can get access to the bank network even if they brought E1 modem at one of the ends (telco PoP).

I searched a lot but couldnt find a clear document about connecting 2 G.SHDSL routers back to back.First of all I am not sure which type of cable (RJ11) is used for connecting two 878 routers. Does it have to be cross or straight cable.
Which RJ11 pairs will be connected each other [code]
According the configuration samples One router must be CPE and the other must be CO for simulating DSLAM.

I'm having some trouble getting two Cisco 888's to work correctly back to back.. The two routers will ultimately be used in conjunction with a BT EPS8 circuit which is effectively four wires short distance between customer sites. We have configured lots of these using the older Cisco 878's.
Anyway, as i've been struggling to get line sync on site I've gone back to basics and connected the two 888's back to back. However, I've found that no matter what I do I can only get the routers to sync at 384kbps!? And that's with a one meter RJ11-RJ11 cable.. Very strange. When we've used the 878's we get much more bandwidth. I have tried statically assigning the line rate at both ends but it still only works at 384kbps.

I am little confused about the location of FIB table and adjacency table in both cisco 6500 series and fixed ports switches .In case of 6500 series switches
"Central CEF mode:The CEF FIB and adjacency tables reside on the route processor, and the route processor performs the express forwarding. Use this CEF mode when line cards are not available for CEF switching, or when features are not compatible with distributed CEF."
If line cards do no support CEF, then FIB and adjacency tables are built and are located on route processor( control plane ). Data plane operations are implemented in software and route processor performs those operations.
Some Cisco switches actually use different hardware to control the different planes. For example, the Cisco Catalyst 6500 is a modular switch that uses the Multilayer Switch.Feature Card (MSFC) for control-plane operations, and the supervisor Policy Feature Card (PFC) for the data-plane operations.
Supervisor module has has MSFC and PFC. MSFC implements control plane operation where as PFC implements data plane operation. But the first paragraph says in Central cef mode, both data plane and control plane operations are implemented by route processor. [code]
Do these switches implement the Central mode cef in same way as mentioned above. i.e
"Central CEF mode:The CEF FIB and adjacency tables reside on the route processor and the route processor performs the express forwarding. Use this CEF mode whenline cards are not available for CEF switching, or when features are not compatible with distributed CEF."Or fixed ports switches such as 3750 implement data plane operation in hardware where FIB tabe and adjacency table are maintained on Data plane.

I am setting up my lab using two 2901 routers which is running on 15.2 IOS.I am trying to simulate a back to back BRI.BRI Module: WIC-1B-S/T-V3 (x2) one of each router.
I followed this amazing document to understand the concept of BRI and configuration. url..but it never says if i can use the module that i have mentioned.
Q1. What cabling i need to use to setup back to back BRI using 2x 2901 routers with these modules?
Q2. What cabling do i need to use.
Q3. Is it actually possible to use these 2 modules alone to simulate a back to back BRI..?

I would like to pre-stage and configure the new box with the existing config, migrate license and export certificate files before swapping it with the old one during a change window. The new firewall will run 9.1 on deployment. Now the same 7.2(4) cannot just be copied over to 5525X running the minimum 8.6 version. There is a Web based tool available at [URL] according to Cisco documentation but the page does not load for me (Cisco intranet only tool ?). Is there another tool for automatic conversion ?

why a subnet wouldn't be passed on to just one participating OSPF device?

Isn't there a way to increase the TTL of an OSPF Hello packet or am I thinking of a different protocol? Or is it only with virtual links? I can't seem to find it in my ROUTE cert book or on the Intarwebz outside of setting TTL security, but I could have sworn I remembered configuring something like this in my ROUTE lab book that I unfortunately do not have at work.

I will be provided with /29 public IP address from my ISP. The idea is to run OSPF between ISP and my ASAs over private IPs so /29 is presented to ASA. This is because I will be using 5 out 6 available IPs on my ASA so I cannot use them on the routers.I need to run HA in Active/Standby mode on ASA, terminate site-to-site and remote access VPNs on ASA, and use static NAT for kit in DMZ network I am trying to figure out how to present this public IP range on ASA. Should I create two subinterfaces on physical interface towards OSPF area and assigned private IP address on one of them for OSPF and public IP on another and then setup a failover on each subinterface.
