Nov 3, 2011The config I am posting is from a 2621 router. This routers Int fa0/0 connects to AT&Ts OPTEMAN 10Mbs Ethernet interface. The other end connects to our HQ router. At HQ is our PRIs and phone switches. I have configured QoS for this router, but don't I have to link them to the ingress interfacce (Int FA0/0)?

Oct 7, 2011I currently have 2 PCs that are directly connected to each other via a 1Gbs Cat6 connection.I don't currently have a 1Gbs router so what I am doing right now is unhooking this connection and reconnecting both machines to my router when I need internet access. I have ordered some USB Wi-Fi adapters so I can have both machines access the internet that way whilst still use FTP between them on the 1Gbs line.If I were to scrap that idea and get a 1Gbs hub, connect both PCs straight into that, and then also connect the hub to my 100mbits router, would the 2 computers be able to communicate with each other at 1Gbs and then talk to the router at 100mbits, or would the whole network run at 100mbits.I don't really want to have to shell out on a 1Gbs router as I don't need anything else on the network to run at that speed.

May 18, 2011I had a question regarding the Cisco 2811. I tried fitting an NM 2FE-2W card and the fast Ethernet interfaces of the module never get recognized. Is there a special command to enable it or isn't the module supported at all by the router. If not , is there a way to have the router possess more than the 2 Fast Ethernet interfaces it already has? Let me know if any more info is needed from my end.

Apr 24, 2012I have cisco 1801W . Earlier I am using ADSL dynamic IP address on RJ 11 through the ADSL Port but now the ISP change the connection to RJ45.
I am trying to configure it but unable to do this. ADSL line is okay because When I am connecting through the ISP router it is working fine. Cisco WAN :: Fast Ethernet Interface Being Take Down With Burst Of Traffic 2800
Jan 12, 2011It is a single router with dual ISPs. It is a 2800 and there is failover configured. I have implemented object tracking and the feature works great except that lately, whenever there is a lot of traffic coming perhaps from the internal users, we start getting intermittent outages.
I have gone deep into looking into this problem and have determined that our ISP#1 does not have any problems. What I think is happening is that whenever the router receives a lot of packets (30-40 users on the internal network) destined to the outside, the router CPU maybe gets too busy and the router then believes that the objects are no longer reachable and it triggers a failover which causes the router to re-direct traffic to the ISP#2. Then, because these are just quick burst of traffic, in the next 30 to 45 seconds after the router re-directed the traffic to ISP#2, the router object tracking engine detects that the objects are now again reachable and this then causes the router to re-direct all traffic back to ISP#1.
This cycle then continues all day on how to prevent this.
Is there a way to perhaps tell the router to completely shut down the interface facing ISP#1 whenever there is a hicup and to keep it shutdown for at least 8 hours? This way I can prevent the router from going crazy.
Or is there a way to perhaps prevent this at the internal (LAN) interface? Are there some metrics like QoS that I can implement on the internal Fast Ethernet Interface to prevent the burst of traffic from eating up the CPU?

The 3660 is incrementing interface resetes about 4-6 times a day and the 3550 is clean. I have noticed this in other similar configurations as well.

However on 6506, am I correct in thinking I can do a no switchport and just create a L3 interface? Do I need to put the 6506 in the same vlan and the fast ethernet module and create a L3 SVI on it? As it's not a trunk port between the 6506 and the fastethernet module, the packets won't be tagged?

Jul 23, 2012I'm watching a video streamed from my laptop and the signal is constantly being dropped. I suspect the D-Link DES-105. I have another Ethernet switch on the system as well but it is a Gigabit unmanaged switch from D-Link and has worked well with video streams. I've removed the DES 105 from the circuit and videos play fine. Should I dump to DES-105 for another Gigabit switch? SOme say I have a bad cable somewhere but I have tested all and have not found a problem.

Would the fast ethernet devices slow down the entire gigabit networking to 100mbps connections on my floor - similar to how a wireless n network running at 300mpbs must slow down to 54mbps when a wireless g device is connected to it?

May 19, 2013My Belkin F7D4301 Router has the fastest wireless speed of maybe 2MBps but wired with a cat5e cable to my asus laptop of almost 7MBps. I have a one smart TV, one blue ray, one roku, and a nexus 7 using the 2.4 channel.
My Wireless 2.4 settings are channel 11, Extension channel 7, Wireless mode N (have tried with just g and b, g, and n modes), Bandwidth 20/40, Protected mode on, QOS off.
I've talked to Belkin tech support, they are the ones who had me set up my 2.4 channel this way but my wireless speeds stay just under 2MBps, they just want to keep sending me the same model Router because they think each of the new ones they send me is defective.
Am I doing something wrong or is 2MBps the best wireless speed I'm going to get?

I've tried restarting my laptop (it usually works) and then reinstalled the device under "device manager". It's not the cord, I've checked with my neighbor's laptop and it works fine.I use a Sony Vaio VGN-NS140E with Windows Vista SP2.

Ethernet Port Not Recognizing Ethernet Cable?
Apr 30, 2011I have a Dell XPS M1530 with Vista 32 bit. When i plug in a cable i get nothing, no error, and the comp does not recognize that a cable has been plugged in. I think that this started after my Hard drive failed and Dell replaced it but i'm not positive. No errors (? or !) in Device Manager and I can't find the Marvell 88E80XX 10/100 Ethernet Controller in device manager. I have attempted to Reinstall the drivers. The wireless is still working. I have one Light to the right of the port that is on all the time solid but no flashing with the cable in or out.

Aug 22, 2012I've got a Cisco 2621 with this IOS image in flash: c2600-i-mz.120-7.bin (the only IOS in flash). When I power up the router, the following errors occur:
open: file "n" not found
open(): Open Error = -1
loadprog: error - fileopen
boot: cannot load "flash:n"
I have to press "Ctr l" and "break" to enter Roman, there i can use the boot command to start the IOS. Configuration register is set to 0x2102, all running config should be factory default.
What I have to do to boot the IOS directly when i power up my router (without entering Roman mode...)?

Apr 17, 2012I am quite a bit rusty from my days of networking. I am trying to setup my lab so I purchased 3 cisco 2501 to study for my CCNA, my question is? I have 2 serial interfaces and 1 AUI for ethernet on each router. How can I configure the Ethernet interface, if I don't see it on the configuration. From the CLI command I issue the command show ip int brief. But It only shows the 2 serials but no E0 interface.
PS. I do have an Ethernet Transceiver connected to the AUI port on the router with a straight through cable going into a 2950 switch.
