I have 4 cisco 2960 switches to which many users are connected. No vlans are the only default vlan 1 is there. Now I want to make ether channel on switch 1 whcih has 24 fast etherenet ports. Can I make port 1- 8 as one ether channel which are connected to users or i can only make ethere channel of ports that are connectd to other switchs. If I can, how the other switchs will comnicate with the switch ports bundalled in the ether channel in switch 1.

I have cisco 1801W . Earlier I am using ADSL dynamic IP address on RJ 11 through the ADSL Port but now the ISP change the connection to RJ45.
I am trying to configure it but unable to do this. ADSL line is okay because When I am connecting through the ISP router it is working fine. I have connected the ADSL RJ45 cable in the router fast ethernet 0.But I wanted to use Cisco 1801 Router so that I can use the ADSL as primary and ISDN as the backup.

I'm watching a video streamed from my laptop and the signal is constantly being dropped. I suspect the D-Link DES-105. I have another Ethernet switch on the system as well but it is a Gigabit unmanaged switch from D-Link and has worked well with video streams. I've removed the DES 105 from the circuit and videos play fine. Should I dump to DES-105 for another Gigabit switch? SOme say I have a bad cable somewhere but I have tested all and have not found a problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have setup an Asus RT n16 with 3 computers that support gigabit ethernet and a media server on one floor. On the other floor I have set up a fast ethernet switch (connected to my asus router) which is connected to several fast ethernet enabled computers.
Would the fast ethernet devices slow down the entire gigabit networking to 100mbps connections on my floor - similar to how a wireless n network running at 300mpbs must slow down to 54mbps when a wireless g device is connected to it?
I have two 3560G 24 port switches. Each of them connects to some 3560G or 2950 switches. Trunks between 3560G are set as 1000/full. Trunks between 3560G and 2950 are set as 100/full. show int status also shows the interface negotiation is 100/full for trunks between 3560G and 2950. The issue is I keep getting outdiscard errors in trunks between 3560G and 2950. At 2950 switches, I see Recv-errors too. I checked all the trunks traffic. They are totally not high. Only serveal mbps. Most time even lower than 1mbps.
I googled this kind of issue online. I see it could be possibly caused by high volume traffic higher than the capacity. But it appears the traffic there is not high enough to cause this kind of issue. Is there any possiblity that could cause this problem?

I'm fairly new to Cisco products am in the process of developing my network knowledge on a deeper level. I have a 3825 with a HWIC-4ESW and I'm struggling to fully understand how the two "see" each other. I've setup a V LAN with a layer 3 address on the HWIC and added the switch ports to it. This seemed to allow devices connected to the switch ports to talk to the built-in router ports. I thought this was all making sense until i applied an access-list to the router port. It's a simple ACL i'm just using for testing and the only thing it does is blocks telnet from anywhere. I know the ACL is setup properly because if I connect a device directly to the router port i cannot telnet to the port. However, if i connect a device to one of the switch ports, i am able to telnet to the router port successfully.
It seems that I'm missing something with how traffic flows from the switch port to the router ports and how the two "see" each other.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHere's my problem. I'm going to be using Cisco 1941 routers at a bunch of remote sites. All of these sites have 2 comm paths out. Some of them have 2 IP/VHF radios and some have 1 IP/VHF radio and a copper link using Patton ethernet extenders. From the VHF radios the data hit our MPLS network back to our HQ and the sites with copper go directly back to our HQ. Everything ends up at a Cisco 4948 switch. The problem I'm having is that I want the routers at the remote site to use one ethernet port (G0/0) as the primary and the other (G0/1) as the backup interface. I've tried the backup interface command but the problem is that depending on where an outage occurs the ethernet link to either the radio or Patton stays up so it never switches over. We're using OSPF as our routing protocol and I'm sure there's something that can be done with it but I'm not sure what.

I have a 2610 router. How can I tell if the built-in ethernet port is only a 10BASE-T or if it's a 10/100 port? Is there a "Show" command to give me this information or did it only come one way? I have found conflicting information on this :-( If it's only 10BASE-T, can I upgrade it to 10/100?

What interface commands can I use to find the specific port causing the buffer overflow?None of the ports is continuously overutilized and none of them in a SPAN destination group.I don't want to move connections without knowing which one is causing the problem. Also I fear that moving the connections may shift the bleeding to another shared port group.
