Cisco Switching/Routing :: Additional Ethernet Switch Port For 2821 Router

Dec 18, 2012

I have a 2821 router and need to add another Ethernet port.

However, all the Ethernet modules seem to be End of Sale and the suggested replacements are only compatible with the ISRg2 range.

One of branch locations has a Cisco 1941 Router . The port details are as follows

-Gi0/0 - ISP line
-Gi0/1 - Inside Network ( To a 2960 Switch)

Now they have procurred another line from ISP through which  MPLS based VPN to the Main location is configured. What are the options I have , to terminate it on the Router ? As all the On board LAN ports are filled I guess I wont be able to do anything with the current setup .Are Switching modules available ? Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750G - Adding Additional Switch And Making It Stack

Feb 29, 2012

I currently have Cisco 3750G which is currently live and active and fully populated and only have remote access.

I have an additional same switch which I would like to stack. My initial plans were to have 2 GIbit etherchannels, but I came across the option to Stacks both switch with each other.

When I do a show switch on the live switch its set as a Member: [code]

I would like to add the new switch to the stack without losing the config for the switch which is live. I understand that the highest priority of the switches becomes the Master but as the live switch is Priority 1, would chancing this affect the switches config, or would it lose connection at all?

Also when I plug in the new switch and it reboot how do I ensure it becomes the slave without rebooting the live switch? The cables on the switch do they have to go to port1 on the live switch and port 1 on the new switch or can they be port 1 and port 2?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3825 ISR - Traffic Route From Switch Port To Router Port

Jun 5, 2013

I'm fairly new to Cisco products am in the process of developing my network knowledge on a deeper level.  I have a 3825 with a HWIC-4ESW and I'm struggling to fully understand how the two "see" each other.  I've setup a V LAN with a layer 3 address on the HWIC and added the switch ports to it.  This seemed to allow devices connected to the switch ports to talk to the built-in router ports.  I thought this was all making sense until i applied an access-list to the router port.  It's a simple ACL i'm just using for testing and the only thing it does is blocks telnet from anywhere.  I know the ACL is setup properly because if I connect a device directly to the router port i cannot telnet to the port.  However, if i connect a device to one of the switch ports, i am able to telnet to the router port successfully.

It seems that I'm missing something with how traffic flows from the switch port to the router ports and how the two "see" each other.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2821 / Segment Shuts Down When Switch Plugged In

Mar 23, 2013

WAN link plugs into a 2821 Router with an switch module in it. About 8 clients are plugged in to the 2821.2821 connects to super cheap netgear switch (I'm 99% sure it's stripping dot1q headers) via one of the ports in the switch module. About 4 people are connected to the netgear. Now, I sent a catalyst 3560g to the branch because they wanted to extend into a new building. Someone decided to run a single cable from the netgear to the 3560. On the 3560, I have about 5 clients and a couple of APs.

So it goes  2821 -> Netgear -> 3560. All of these are single connections. When the 3560 gets plugged in, all clients on the netgear lose their connection, and nothing on the 3560 works. It happens almost instantly. I can't figure out why connections are dropping. The APs have about 4 VLANs onn them, and the PCs are on their own VLAN (the native VLAN).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Convert 1941 Router To POE With 4 Port Switch

Dec 20, 2011

I have a Cisco 1941 K9 Router.  I want to add POE functionaltiy to it.  Specifically I want a 4 port EHWIC POE switch to power a couple of AP's.

This is what I understand I need; Upgrade/replace the internal power supply with PWR-1941-POE power supply,  This is supplied with a fan replacement also (not yet purchased).buy 1 x EHWIC-4ESG (4 port switch)buy 1 x ILPM-4 (inline daughter card / power supply board) I think the real question here is the 4 port switch... there are two types available one is EHWIC-4ESG=the other is EHWIC-4ESG-P=

Is there any difference between these two switch modules? or are they the same and the more expensive "P" version is simply supplied with the ILPM-4 daughter card for POE?

I have recieved via courier today 1 x EHWIC-4ESG, and found a ILPM-4 on ebay for a good price.  WIll this provide POE through the switch EHWIC-4ESG?

Right now, the cable modem provides a backup connection in case the T1s go down.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Upgrading Fans On 2821 Router

Apr 3, 2012

Basically I run 3 voice gateways on 2821 routers. In two of my routers I've had fan failures, one router has had two fans die and one has had just the one.

I was going to buy the offical Cisco fan replacement kit but then I thought with such as high failure rate I'd rather buy something else and better guarentee the service to my call centres.

So, what i'm asking is:

- Is there any reason why I cannot procure a standard 80mm 12V fan with a better rating (cooling and reliability) and install this in my 2821's?

I understand this may invalidate any warranties but mine have long expired.

Can A Router Connect To A Switch To Gain Additional Ports

Aug 9, 2012

Can a router connect to a switch to gain additional ports (to both access the internet AND to maintain an internal / home network)?IP line to house, connected to modem, connected to 4-port router, connected to 8-port switch. Now, each of six rooms in my house has one Cat-5e (RJ-45) jack whose run terminates to the switch. In some of these rooms, I need two wired devices (wireless isn't an option for the devices). Can I use the LAN port of a spare, wireless router (to also use as an access point for cell phones, etc) to plug into the jack and increase the number of ports in that room to have a functional LAN and WAN? I have read tons of info on plugging switches into routers to increase the number of ports, but not the other way around. Plus, ripping open walls to expand the network isn't feasible either. My other thought, would be to replace the switch with another (2nd) router, by connecting the 1st and 2nd routers together, and have the runs terminate to the open LAN ports of both routers --= and then expand the ports in those rooms by also using additional, spare wireless routers.

Cisco WAN :: 2821 - Router Throughput For Ethernet WAN Connection

Apr 26, 2011

I am looking to find the correct router for a 50 Mbps Ethernet connectin that is for Internet traffic. It will need to support 50 Mbps throughput, along with routing protocols for BGP, and maybe NAT/ACL's.  It most likely will be a used router, in the 2800 series.  I'm thinking a 2821 would work, but need to make sure before I pass it on to the customer. They currently have a 3660 they were thinking of using, but I think it would be too weak, and probably only pas 30Mbps at the most before it chokes.  They are a mini ISP with their own ASN, Tier 3.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 1941 - Use One Ethernet Port (G0/0) As Primary And Other (G0/1) As Backup Interface

Jan 20, 2013

Here's my problem.  I'm going to be using Cisco 1941 routers at a bunch of remote sites.  All of these sites have 2 comm paths out.  Some of them have 2 IP/VHF radios and some have 1 IP/VHF radio and a copper link using Patton ethernet extenders.  From the VHF radios the data hit our MPLS network back to our HQ and the sites with copper go directly back to our HQ.  Everything ends up at a Cisco 4948 switch. The problem I'm having is that I want the routers at the remote site to use one ethernet port (G0/0) as the primary and the other (G0/1) as the backup interface.  I've tried the backup interface command but the problem is that depending on where an outage occurs the ethernet link to either the radio or Patton stays up so it never switches over. We're using OSPF as our routing protocol and I'm sure there's something that can be done with it but I'm not sure what.
