Cisco WAN :: Best Design For Simple Configuration 2901

Nov 20, 2011

I'm new to routing and cisco in general.  I'm inheriting a rather simple setup but would like to approach the next steps with a good strategy.  Currently we have a 2901 router with public IP's on bother interfaces.  The internal facing interface is our gateway for some webservers and a firewall.  Not we are looking to add a colocation site and establish a site to site VPN using another 2901. My goal is to have the colocation use the same internal 10.100.0.0/23 network.  My question is what is the best way of going about this since the router at the main site has public IP's on both interfaces?  Do I need to multi-home the internal facing interface?  If so, what else needs to be done?

Cisco WAN :: 837 - Simple ADSL Configuration

I need to configure ADSL on my 837 Router with simple configuration. The WAN IP address is dynamic from my ISP. I checked many websites and found different configurations everywhere. I don't know which is best suited for me. I used SDM and configured ADSL. When i checked the configuration from console i found that there is atm0.2 and dialer 2 configured with my settings. I cannot understand what is the purpose of atm0.2 and dialer 2 when atm0 and dialer0 are there. Is there a doc on ADSL config on 837?

I want all local calls (303 and 720 area code) and possibly 911 (if possible) to go out the POTS line, but all long distance to go to SIP account on SKYPE. Pretty simple, but I can't find a wizard or samples in the documentation or firmware for the SPA3102.

Cisco WAN :: 2901 - QoS Configuration

THE ISSUE IS : when i add in the service-policy output WAN- QOS- POLICY command , i get the error " insufficient bandwidth 256kbps for bandwidth guarantee (180)". if i take out the " bandwidth 512 " command out then i get no issues adding the above command on interface g0/1

Cisco WAN :: 2901 / DMZ Public Web And Dns Servers - NAT Configuration?

Jun 24, 2011

We have a Cisco router 2901 with 10M dedicated link on Gi0/0 interface, 3 VLANs on Gi0/1 interface. The Gi0/1 is subinterfaced for default, LAN and DMZ segments.LAN is assigned 172.16.1.0/24 and DMZ 192.168.1.0/24. We host a web server (192.168.1.11) and dns server (192.168.1.18) on DMZ VLAN. On the same WAN interface we have confiugured PAT and NAT. For outside queries to DNS and WEB servers everything works fine but when we try to open the website on our web server from internal LAN, we can´t do it.

When PINGing the web server by its IP address 192.168.1.11 or by the FQDN, the requests respond fine. The domain.com and [URL] resolve and respond with public IP address of our WAN link as the DNS server is configured. But when we try to open [URL] in the Internet browser the website does not open.

What could be the issue? Can be anything with NAT or PAT configuration?

Cisco Application :: ACE And FWSM Design And Configuration Guideline With 6500

Apr 8, 2013

I have Cisco 6500 with FWSM and ACE module which are in one central DC. Also we have four different Datacenter (Hub & spoke) and in our FWSM we have configured four contexts in central DC FWSM for each DC. Each DC servers are different VLAN and IP subnet. Now we have to configure ACE module for load balancing among those different subnet servers. What will be the design and configuration for this solution? Like routed or one-arm mode design.

Scenario Example:
1.  App Server01
IP:192.168.11.5/24
GW: 192.168.11.1 in FWSM
FWSM Context: DC1
Physical Location:DC1
VLAN:11

[code].....

Now customer requirement is we have to load balance using ACE between these App Servers which are in different context s in FWSM and one Server is not FWSM. how to configure or design or placement of ACE and FWSM for above scenario.

2960S Skills Of Switch Configuration Are Greater Than Network Design

Jan 5, 2012

One of our clients is replacing some of their aging network components with 4 Cisco 2960S switches. Unfortunately in this case, my skills of switch configuration are greater than my skills of network design. I have a really crude network diagram of their basic network layout (4 servers, 4 switches, and a number of endpoints).

How would you experts design the physical connections in such a way as to facilitate some redundancy?

Cisco :: ISRG2 2901 - How To Create Bulk Configuration Files From Template For Staging

Aug 17, 2011

We have created a sample configuration for ISRG2 2901 Router.  The sample configuration is long, and with copy/paste it is possible to skip some lines, and it is difficult to ensure the configuration of every device is standardized due to this error possibility. What we are trying to achieve is first create a template from this sample configuration file, and then create configuration files for each device seperately and automatically. After creating this configuration instances, we want to be able to distribute the configuration files (and possibly the ios) to the devices during the staging phase. Since there are about 1000 2901 routers, creating configuration files is important?

From searching we have found the following tools:

1) CCE (Cisco Configuration Engine): This tool seems to be very efficient for distributing the created configuration files. We may use the serial number of the device, and it provides almost zero touch provisioning of the configuration files to the devices. Creating the configuration file from the template seems to be manual, i.e enter the ip addresses of the interfaces, the routing tables one by one for each device. How can we use velocity template for device configs?

2) Ciscoworks LMS Prime: It is possible to create a baseline template for the devices, and after getting the backup configuration of the routers, it is possible to compare the actual configuration of the device with the baseline template, and understand if there is any difference with each other. This is indeed very useful in order to keep the configuration standardized, we again could not find a way to create bulk configuration files from the baseline template.

3)  Solarwinds Config Generator: This tool is useful for creating a configuration file from a template, but again not for automatically creating configuration files, and needs manual intervention.

4) Excel Macro: It seems that some people have achived to automatically create configuration files with using an excel macro, but we could not find a procedure or tip of how to achieving this.

5) Pearl or TCL/TK Script: Again since we are not software developers but from networking field, it is difficult to achieve a working form of this scripts or codes due to to lack of documentation and development experience.

Cisco Wireless :: 4404 Wireless Design - WLC Configuration

Mar 16, 2009

Soon to be working on a design for a Wireless installation across one of our buildings. The wireless survery has been completed, and we'll be installing 175 APs, across the 3 floors of the building.

With regards to the back-end WLC setup, I have a few queries around the WLC configuration. We're looking at implementing the 4400 series of devices, and due to us having nearly 200 APs, we'll need at least 2 x 4404 or 4 x 4402 - I'm assuming its simpler to have fewer devices to make management simpler. Also, looking at the Cisco reference material, they recommend that a 4404 can support up to 100 APs, with regards configuring the ports on the box, would I need to configure LAG across the WLC

ports in order for it to accommodate all of the Access Points. If we were to go with a scenario of using 2 x 4404 devices, would we be in a position whereby if we lost a Controller, we'd lose

all of the Access Points associated with that Controller? In order for us to have full resiliency, we'd need an additional 4404 controller for the APs to failover on too? From a licensing perspective, we'll be purchasing a licence to cover 200 APs.

Cisco Wireless :: WAP4410N As Simple Wi-Fi Bridge?

Feb 13, 2011

I have a room cut off from the wired network by concrete walls (there are windows and it's a very short distance).  There is a device in that room with a wired network adapter than needs access to the network.  We'd like to use a pair of WAP4410N devices to get that room on our wired network over a simple "wireless bridge."

Would the following work?

Connect one WAP4410N normally with WPA2 Personal encryption and connect it to our wired network.  Enable repeating of its signal.Set up the "remote" WAP4410N in the "cut off" room.  Give it the same SSID and Encryption settings.  Enable "Wireless Client Repeater" mode and uncheck the box labeled "Allow wireless station to associate". . . then use its RJ45 network port to connect to the wired device in the room.  My biggest concern is the part in bold.  Will the network port on the "remote" repeater function like that?  So that any devices (or a switch) plugged into it will then be "forwarded along the bridge" to the main/local AP and then onto our network?

Cisco Firewall :: Simple Port Forwarding On ASA 8.4?

Sep 4, 2012

I've tried setting up some simple port forwarding on my ASA, where I want to forward one port on the external interface for both UDP and TCP to the same port on an internal server.

It works fine for UDP, but all TCP packets are dropped on the outside interface, even though the configuration for UDP and TCP is basically the same! This is my config:

object network MY_SERVER
host 10.10.1.4
object service TCP_MY_SERVICE

[Code].....

Port count goes up on line 2 (UDP) but never for line 1. I just see the packet denied instead. Same thing happens in the packet tracer, a packet destined for my external interface on that port for UDP is allowed and NAT'd just fine. TCP it gets dropped by the ACL on the outside interface.

Cisco LAN :: Using A 2940 As Extremely Simple Switch / Hub?

Feb 2, 2012

I am trying to find out if its possible to use an existing CISCO 2940 Switch that we have here at our office as a hub?  Im sure that borders on insane however, let me break down what we have currently and what I'd like to do.

We currently have a very nice setup here at work, with no problems whatsoever, however; we hired a new person and brought in some new printers and we are running out of wall jacks.  Rather then run all new cabling and adding new outlets/faceplates etc... We were just gonna go purchase a simple Netgear 5 port switch/hub from the Local Comp store here in town.  We found in our server room a what appears to fully functional and operational cisco 2940 8 Port Switch with a Gigabit port.

All IPs in the office are assigned via DHCP, so....on to the meat of my question -- I tried to plug this into our network and I can't get any connectivity out at all. All the ports light up green etc when I plug in the comps but they aren't pulling valid IPs.

I want to reset this thing and start from the ground up, I am not scared of going into the IOS and modifying what needs to be done...as long as I got a good enough walk through.

Cisco :: 861 - Setup Simple VPN On Small Network?

Feb 13, 2012

I would like to setup a simple VPN on a small network, nothing special, just to provide access to some simple resources on the network from anywhere. Since I'm not a Cisco expert, I was advised to user a 861 router, but I just can't seem to get the VPN working on this device.

I've placed the router behind a modem and did some basic configuration. Hosts who are connected to the modem (on the Vlan side) can access the internet and can setup a VPN connection to the router. A VPN connection from inside the network is worthless, but I just can't get the VPN working on the FastEthernet4 connection.

Any VPN config for a 861 router for this situation? Or how to configure this device as a VPN server?

I think the best way to solve this will be using VRF for management, and regular routing for public network, right? Putting the management network in it`s own VRF.

Could A Switch Be Used Instead Of Router For A Simple Network

Jan 14, 2011

I know the general difference between a router and a switch, but after considerable reading I'm unable to determine if I could just use a switch for my pretty simple specific application.

Here are the two devices I need to setup on my network (connections would be wired, both devices in close proximity): (1) computer running windows2k with 100mbps ethernet card (has software firewall installed) (1) blue ray player for streaming netflix videos

Because I don't have any computers on the network communicating with each other, based on what I've read it seems possible to just connect a switch to my cable modem instead of using a router.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 - Hairpinning Or Simple ACL / NAT Entry?

Nov 12, 2012

I've attached a document showing how this network is designed. A client on a guest vlan behind the ASA, nat'd to one address on the public subnet, needs to be able to get out to the internet, and still come back in for specific services, such as OWA, via the IP which the mail server is nat'd to. The drawing is pretty explanatory. Do I simply need to create a NAT statement and ACL to allow that client out and back in, or do I need to set up hairpinning? I'm working with a Cisco ASA 5505 Version 8.4(4)3.

Note: The drawing has public IP's substituted with 1.1.1.x with final octet being accurate.
