Cisco Infrastructure :: 2 6509-E Switches Connected Directly To Each Other While Using VRF-lite (Sup 2T)?

Apr 11, 2013

I am trying to test (if possible) the idea of having 2 6509-E switches connected directly to each other while using VRF-lite (Sup 2T). The idea is to have 3-4 separate networks. For example Net-A, Net-B,Net-C, Net-D. There is no PE router*, just these two switches. Also, there sin't any other access layer switches. All users connect directly to the 6509-E's via switch 48 port switch blades.

Net-A and Net-B on separate VRF's, but able to talk to each other. Net-C and Net-D* on separate VRF's without being able to talk to any other. Net-D* will have a PE since it comes from an external network. This is something I would like to test in a lab environment, but I am not familiar with VRF's.

Cisco Switches :: SG500x Point To Point Connection Very Slow After 1.30.59 Update

May 1, 2013

I have a point to point 100mb line connecting SG500x switches at 2 locations, with these ports in a vlan together. I use layer 3 on the SG500x's to route between the two sites. I also have RIP protocol enabled to allow for automatic failover if the point to point fails (this works well).

I upgraded the ios to 1.30.59, and the connection now runs at a fraction of the speed. I have hard-coded the ports to run at 100mb full duplex, but I still only get around 12mb of throughput between the switches. I used to get about 90mb before. The provider also hard-coded the circuit to 100mb full duplex. The provider has checked the circuit remotely, and everything looks fine. I tested with a laptop at each side, and did get almost 70mb throughput. I would think this indicates some type of setting mismatch, but i cannot find anything.

I am using a backup vpn for now as some things look flaky as well (on vpn, I can use the web interface to access the SG500x on the opposite side, but on the point to point I cannot - I can ping the device though).

I have seen some references on here to shutting off STP on these 2 ports.

Cisco WAN :: MWR2941 Qos Solution For 10mb Point-to-point L2 WAN Link

Jul 18, 2011

We have a MWR2941 (running 12.4(20)MR) router on site A and one in site B which will be connected over a Service provider L2VPN Ethernet over MPLS (EoMPLS) Network, with 10Mb Bandwidth allocated by the ISP. I have simulated this in the lab by directly connecting the two MWR's back-to-back via the Gig0/0 interface with configurable bandwidth of 10Mb on the Trunk interface.

The E1 TDM pseudowire end to end is working fine, with PTP configured for E1 timing/clocking. In addition I have a 2960-24PC-L switch connected on G0/2 of the MWR (on each end) configured with dot1q trunking. The switch will be used to connect two user groups in two seperate vlans (VlanA and vlanb) and transported across the same 10MB wan Link. Below are the requirements

1) Classify and mark Psuedowire packets E1-DATA coming from a E1/CEM interface and give it priority treatment over the WAN Link with reserved bandwidth of at least 4MB
2) Classify and mark Signalling/Timing PTP packets coming from PTP Vlan and give it strict bandwidth reservation over the WAN Link of 1MB
3) Classify and mark vlan A traffic coming from the 2960 Switch Trunk port (Connected to G0/2 on MWR) and give it bandwidth reservation over the WAN Link of 2MB
4) Classify and mark vlan B traffic coming from the 2960 Switch Trunk port (Connected to G0/2 on MWR) and give it bandwidth reservation over the WAN Link of 2MB

It is important that the E1 Traffic and the Signalling/Timing PTP packets are given priority and strict reservation so that it is not dropped in times of congestion. At the same time Vlan A and Vlan B need bandwidth reservation to give them their guaranteed bandwidth.

Currently I have tried applying policy map to the CEM interface. However, I am having trouble matching anything on the CEM input. Also I am having trouble applying a service-policy outbound on the gig0/0 (WAN Link). Also I can’t apply a service-policy inbound on the Gig0/2 interface with match statement. I have tried configuring input policy map to classify and mark PTP traffic (Vlan 902), but the MWR does not also allow me to attach a service-policy to the vlan interface. how to configure the MWR and have a workable QOS solution.

D-Link DIR-600 :: Access Point Via Laptop Connected To WLAN?

Dec 31, 2011

my network isn't the most optimal at the moment. Starting from the router, it's a Thomson TG789vn my roommate has set up in his room. The service is DSL. I've connected my laptop to said WLAN from which I connect my access point turned DIR-600 to the internet and share it to my PC and Xbox 360.It works pretty well most of the time with 28 ping to a ~150 miles far server, yet sometimes I lose connection overall, or partly. For example, the Battlefield 3 beta stays connected to the internet while 3 different browsers are unable to load a single page. It seems like ongoing connection are unaffected while new ones don't work. The problem is usually fixed in a few seconds when I disconnect and reconnect the WLAN on my laptop.

D-Link DIR-600 :: Access Point Via Laptop Connected To WLAN

As the title might suggest, my network isn't the most optimal at the moment. Starting from the router, it's a Thomson TG789vn my roommate has set up in his room. The service is DSL. I've connected my laptop to said WLAN from which I connect my access point turned DIR-600 to the internet and share it to my PC and Xbox 360.

It works pretty well most of the time with 28 ping to a ~150 miles far server, yet sometimes I lose connection overall, or partly. It seems like ongoing connection are unaffected while new ones don't work. The problem is usually fixed in a few seconds when I disconnect and reconnect the WLAN on my laptop. So yeah, it's not pretty but I have to work with what's available. I'm actually surprised it even works this well. how to optimize the whole thing or how to fix the partial lack of connectivity?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 Receiving CDP Packets From Switches Not Directly Connected

Jun 27, 2010

A specific switch port which happens to be part of a 2 switch 3750 Switch Stack is seeing multiple CDP packets from 3 extra switch port interfaces that are not directly connected. Noteworthy is that the far end devices have the correct CDP entries and I physically confirmed at least two of those connections that lead to the switch "upstream to the culprit switch". Tricky part is that its production so room for maneuvering is limited. At some point I disabled all Ports save for the real uplink and the problem momentarily disappeared. Re-enable the interfaces problem resurfaces. Is there an explanation, technique to eliminate the culprit with minimal disruption?

D-Link DIR-655 :: 10Mbps Up When Connected Directly Through Wired Connections

Nov 11, 2012

I've been trying to find a response or a fix to this issue for a few weeks now.My DIR-655 RevB router is currently at firmware 2.07NA, and has speeds of around 30Mbps down and 10Mbps up when connected directly through wired connections. However over wifi, I am only getting around about 5 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up.  I've tried the 'usual' fixes suggested on here, change broadcast signal to manual, not auto, shutting of QoS shaping, all of that. However nothing seems to be improving the speed.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Router Is Not Recognizing Laptop As Directly Connected Device

Oct 27, 2011

I have a setup where there are two networks. A 172.16.0.0/16 and a 10.1.0.0/16 that are separated by the dlink router. I am able to ping from the 172 network to the 10 network using a laptop that is directly connected to the router and that laptop can also browse the web fine. However, I cannot ping to that router or access that subnet at all from the 10 network (if I try to access its LAN (the 172 network)). The 172 network is on its LAN and the 10 network is its WAN. I can access its WAN fine. Also, there the router is not recognizing the laptop as a "directly connected deivce" but its not preventing the laptop from using the router. I have tried to make the router as least secure as possible but still nothing.

I thought about making Static Route to point towards the router's LAN but the only option it gives me is the WAN for the exit interface.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Slowing Internet Down But Fine When Directly Connected To Modem

Jun 9, 2011

I have been using my DIR-655 for about 2 weeks now with Road Runner wideband services. Starting yesterday my internet became very slow and I discovered the cause was the router. I tried resetting it to factory settings and things will be fine and run smoothly for about 5-15 minutes but after that it goes back to being extremely slow. My speed tests would go from 10ms (normal) to 250-450ms. Before this issue occurred the Dlink was perfect, had full speeds. I am running a wire Ethernet connection.

I am currently using revB and tried upgrading firmware to 2.01NA which had no effect, but make my internet seemingly go back to normal for the first few minutes then nosedive again. I have also changed my speed/duplex settings in Network Config to 1gbs Full Duplex. I've also disabled QoS, and still no change. Not sure what else to do. When directly connected to the modem everything seems fine. The modem is also the provided Motorola SBG6580 which I have called Time Warner to set the modem into bridge mode and have the DIR-655 connected to it.

I have 2 cisco 1941/K9 vpn router. I have configured both with LAN ip address given by our vpn provider which is 172.10.10.1 and the other is 172.10.20.1. Both IP addresses are configured to GigabitEthernet port 0/0 on both routers.

1. Is it possible to configure our own set of ip address like 10.71.10.1 and 10.71.50.1 on the GE 0/0 port?

2. Or can we configure our own set of ip addresses (10.71.10.1 and 10.71.50.1) to GigabitEthernet port 0/1 and maintain the other ip addresses on port 0/0?

The first purpose is to have our own set of ip addresses for LAN connection and I will be able to connect or telnet whichever ip address or port is up.

Even this way the wired computers on one AP cannot connect to the wired PC on the WGB. This way only the wireless client can connect to the wired network.  This is my network:

We would have to provide the routers however. I have worked with Cisco routers before with T1 channelized connections but am unsure how the the fiber would connect to a Cisco router in this scenerio. I need to know how such a connection to the routers at each end would take place, specifically what WIC or whatever else would be needed. I currently have a 1760 router at each site but realize that they are old and I m,ay have to replace them with newer models.

LAN Disconnecting After Access Point Is Connected

Dec 15, 2011

I connect a wireless access point to our network and within 10-15 minutes any wired LAN users internet connection goes down, yet the wireless internet works fine.

Here is how our small business network is setup:

1. We have a Server 2000 that serves as our companies domain controller and DHCP (I know, I know..dated). We also have another server on our network, which is a Server 2003, which is primarily a backup domain to our Server 2000 and hosts Quickbooks that our employees use and a small intranet website via ISS. We are connected to a router from our ISP with a gateway IP of 192.168.1.2. Our ip address structure is 192.168.1.xxx and subnet is 255.255.255.0.

2. I have configured the AP to be just that, an access point to broadcast wirelessly and made sure that DHCP is turned off on the router. I set it to a static ip of 192.168.1.215 and subnet of 255.255.255.0 and our default gateway of 192.168.1.2. Once I connect it, everything works fine for about 20-30 minutes, then our LAN internet goes down. The Wireless G access point that I am using is a TP-Link Model TL-WA501G.

My question is, how does the WAP know that our server is the DHCP? And are the wired LAN people getting disconnected because of a DHCP fighting issue between the WAP and our server 2000? I'm not a network engineer but know enough, but this problem is really baffling me.
