Cisco WAN :: EIGRP Not Fully Passing Routes After Introducing 3750

Apr 8, 2013

We've put in a 3750 at our corp hq (Detroit).  We did this to break up the current flat 172.16.0.0 /16 network into separate VLAN's for various purposes.  We plan on doing that at another site (Farmington), which will become a DR site.  We are running EIGRP throughout the organization over an OPTEMAN netowrk and also sending routes to a managed MPLS network which uses BGP.  BGP redistributes into EIGRP and vice versa.  I've attached a pdf of the network.  The 3750 core at the corp hq is a temp core, hopefully upgrading to Nexus within a year or two.  This problem didn't exist until the 3750 was introduced and became the gateway for the site.  The OPTEMAN router was the gateway and was on the same VLAN as the MPLS router.

So, in detroit we have an Detroit-MPLS router, Detroit-3750, and Detroit-OPTEMAN.  What I'm seeing is that the routers I'm getting from the MPLS router make it to the 3750.  The 3750 advertises those routes to the Detroit-OPTEMAN router.  However, the OPTEMAN router doesn't advertise these routes any further..

In Farmington, it is currently set up like Detroit used to be set up.  There is a flat network and both routers are on the same VLAN, no L3 core switch.  Routes come in from the MPLS, get advertised to the Farmington-OPTEMAN router, distributes the routes out to all OPTEMAN connected routers, including Detroit.  However, Detroit is not passing that route to the 3750.

When we made the 3750 stack the core, we didn't change anything else, except for some IP changes. Why these routes aren't fully redistributing?

Cisco WAN :: EIGRP 101 - Prefer External Routes Versus Internal Routes?

Apr 8, 2011

Is there a way in EIGRP to prefer external routes versus internal routes. EIGRP always picks up internal routes as long as they are available, no matter if external routes have better metric. Our Scenario is that we have DMVPN hub and spoke topology running EIGRP 101. The Core routers also on EIGRP 101 prefer EIGRP 101 routes. We have the new MPLS network running BGP and redistributing these BGP routes into EIGRP 101. The core routers prefer EIGRP 101 routes (internal) to redistributed BGP (external) routes.

Cisco VPN :: C3660 Passing IP Routes To VPN Clients

May 19, 2013

We've got a fairly plain-vanilla VPN configuration on a C3660 router running IOS 12.3(26) so that our employees can initiate VPN sessions to our office using their Windows or Linux workstations.  In a typical windows L2TP VPN configuration, the default route is set to the VPN server, and no other routes are passed to the clients, which means that if the client disables "use default route" setting, even getting to the office network fails.

I know there's a way to do this, but I haven't found it yet.  What I want to do is pass local routes to the client so that only those routes transit the VPN, and permit the clients to use their own default routes.

Cisco WAN :: 3825 Will Not Add Routes To Topology Table From Eigrp Neighbor

Mar 13, 2013

I have a 3825 running c3825-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T8. It is configured as an eigrp stub advertising only its connected and static routes. There are three WAN connections using a metro ethernet service. Two are data, one for voice traffic. The primary data connections run to two WAN edge ASR1002 routers.

The primary data connection (Gi0/1.943) is 20 Megs, the secondary data connection (Gi0/1.944) is only 15 Megs. Before the secondary connection was in place I only had routes to our backbone via Gi0/1.943 and everything was working great. Some time after the secondary data connection was turned up the routes to the backbone through Gi0/1.943 disappeared from the eigrp topology table causing all data traffic to flow through the less desirable secondary Gi0/1.944 interface to our backbone.

There is a good eigrp neighbor relationship between the 3825 and the ASR connected to Gi0/1.943, but if I show ip protocols it does not list the ASR as a data source. I know that the ASR is advertising its routes because I can see the updates coming from it if I debug ip eigrp. For some reason they are just not being added to the topology table by the 3825, not even as a feasible successor.

I have shut/no shut the interface multiple times at both ends during troubleshooting and I also reloaded and upgraded the code on the 3825 from 12.4(24)T to 12.4(24)T8. We also contacted the metro ethernet carrier to see if they had a policy that could potentially be blocking the traffic (no). My colleagues and I are just not seeing any feasible reason why these routes are not being added.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 - Advertise Default Routes From EIGRP Stub?

Feb 13, 2013

I have a 3560 with IP base that is acting as a true EIGRP stub router today.  It advertises local routes to the upstream service provider router and receives a default route.

Now I want to connect a 3900 ISR as a voice gateway.  The 3560 does not seem to be advertising any routes to the 3900.  Ok the EIGRP stub doc says this:

Only specified routes are  propagated from the remote (stub) router. The router responds to queries  for summaries, connected routes, redistributed static routes, external  routes, and internal routes with the message "inaccessible." A router  that is configured as a stub will send a special peer information packet  to all neighboring routers to report its status as a stub router.

# Any neighbor that receives a packet informing it of the stub status will  not query the stub router for any routes, and a router that has a stub  peer will not query that peer. The stub router will depend on the  distribution router to send the proper updates to all peers.

I guess I don't understand why the stub advertises local routes to the upstream ISP router but does not seem to advertise routes to the 3900.  Does the stub identify the ISP router as the distribution router somehow, thus differentiating it from the 3900?  If so, how is this done?

Cisco WAN :: Mixed Feature Sets In 3750 Stack - Fully Supported?

Jun 21, 2011

What is supported in terms of running a mixed feature set in a Cisco 3750 switch stack. We are looking at setting up a stack consisting of 5 x 3750V2 and 2 x 3750G. Due to a requirement for full EIGRP we need the IP Services feature set. Is it a supported configuration to run with 2 or 3 switches running the IP Services feature set as stack masters and the others running IP Base? I understand that if stack master priorities were set these switches with the higher feature set could manage the stack and offer IP Services accross the stack. If we were to lose all of the switches running IP Services the stack would drop back to IP Base.I am looking for guidance as to if this is a supported configuration and not in breach of licensing? Is this likely to cause any problem other than above now and for future IOS releases?

Physical cabling has been replaced towards the ISP router, and the ISP have found no issues on their equipment or circuit.on occassions the utilisation is high on the link, so reasons for the hello packets to be not reach the end point, but other times the links are lowly used. The WAN links are active/standby, so the active is always used, but the EIGRP adjacency is dropped by both links.

Cisco WAN :: 3750 / EIGRP Stub At The Edge?

Apr 24, 2012

I am looking to implement 25 Cisco 3750 switches with IPBASE image at the edge, across many cabinets.  I understand I am limited to EIGRP Stub on the 3750 switches (with IPBase) and cannot acheive funding to upgrade to IPServices.  Though I am not fully aware on the limitations, in terms of what I am trying to acheive.

Broadly speaking I want to install 2 x 3750 switches at the edge, with point-to-point links to two 6500 core switches (at the data centre) and then have HSRP interfaces on the 3750's, tracking the up links to the core switches.  I am presuming this will be the best solution to ensure reliability. My 6500 switches run EIGRP and have many VLANs and other L3 networks advertised, which will need advertising to the 3750 switches.  I would be looking to advertise two or three HSRP networks on the 3750 switches, up to the core switches. At the moment, the entire network is Layer 2 (VLANS + STP).

how to configure EIGRP across the 3750 switches and 6500 switches to allow for the 3750's to see the whole network and also advertise back up it's directly connected (HSRP) networks to the core.  At the moment, after configuration, none of the switches see each other as EIGRP neighbours but can ping the L3 addresses on each end.

Cisco WAN :: 3750 L3 / EIGRP Load Balancing While Running HSRP?

Dec 15, 2010

I'm trying to configure load balancing on a network that is using 4 3750 L3 switches.  The network is comprised of two sites with two switches at each site running HSRP and the virtaul IP is the gateway for a server between the two switches.  The sites are connected by two independant 200meg ethernet connections (technically they are GigE limited to 200meg) p2p circuits.  The switches at site A are connected together via a GigE port and the server I have connects to each switch at its respective site using a GigE port and the same for site B.

The problem I'm running into is that I've noticed that one of the 200meg circuits is always idol unless the primary goes down, so I'd like to be able to load balance the traffic from site A to site B using both p2p circuits.  I think the problem that I'm running into has to do with the fact that HSRP is putting one of the links from the server to switch in standby unless the WAN link goes down and therefore traffic is not taking the "longer route" to the 2nd 200meg circuit. The only traffic going across this network is only the two servers sending traffic to one another. how I can get load balancing to work or if it is a possiblity with this network topology?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - Enable EIGRP Process

Sep 23, 2012

I have a hub and spoke WAN that conisits of one core location with with a 6500 and nine other buildings using 4006 Catalyst that conenct back to the core via dual gig fiber. We are using EIGRP at each location as well as the core.   I was tesing something at one of our buildings decided to hang a 3750 off the 4006 and enable the same eigrp process on the 3750 that is enabled on the 4006 and 6500 (EIGRP 1).

1. All the routes that the 6500 knows about are advertised out to each of the nine locations.
2. The 4006's are all advertising thier directly conencted routes to the 6500.

Onto the location I was testing at:

The 4006 where I was testing at has four vlan interfaces enabled and they are in an UP/UP state. The ip routes from the 4006's directly conencted vlan interfaces propogate to the 6500 at our core location and the 6500 sucsefully propgates these learned routes to all the other 4006's.

This past Friday I configured a 3750x with two /22 vlan interfces and one physical gi port with an IP address and also configured on Ethernet port on the 4006 with an IP address in the same network block as the 3750x gi interface (a /30 netowrk block). I saw both interfaces come up and EIGRP sucesfully established a neighbor adjecency between the 3750x and the 4006.

I noticed that the 3750 advertised out all of it's directly conencted routes to the 4006 and the 4006 advertised it's directly conencted routes to the 3750. However, the 4006 did not advertise any of the routes it had learned from the 3750x to the 6500 and nor did the 4006 advertise any of the routes it had learned from the 6500 to the 4006.  My suspicion is that the "eigrp stub connected summary" statement is enabled on both the 4006 and 3750 thus prevenintg them form advertising out any routes other than thier directly conencted routes.  Can any of you verify that I'm either correct or inccorect about this?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: EIGRP Default Route 3750

Jun 20, 2012

access-list 1 deny   0.0.0.0
access-list 1 permit any
access-list 2 permit 0.0.0.0
access-list 2 deny   any

router eigrp 1distribute-list 1 out FastEthernet0/0distribute-list 2 in FastEthernet0/0

Due to this recently applied config the switch become unreachable from the outside and cannot ping anything. Everything connected to it works fine. I was able to remote into it from a switch behind it and noticed that the 3750 has no default route in the routing table. I do see a default route in the eigrp topology table. How to make the switch learn a default route maintaining the existing configuration on the routers.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 / EIGRP Router Won't Update Neighbor With New Network

Apr 18, 2012

I am working at a client site today on a routing issue.  I am currently working on an issue where a 3750 switch running EIGRP will not update its neighbor router when a network statement is added to the eigrp instance. The neighbor is a 3825 router.

Both the switch and the router have a common network which is 192.168.36.0/24.
Both the switch and the router are in a neighbor adjacency.
Both boxes have "no auto-summ" in the routing configuration instance.

I can run debugs on both routers (debug eigrp packets) and then I can watch queries and updates when I issue "auto-summ" or "no auto-summ".  Also I see a "graceful restart" for the peers when this is done.I had an expectation that when I added the network (this is just an arbitrary network for testing, which is 172.16.69.0/24).  I wanted to watch this network being sent in an update to the neighbor router. When I add the above mentioned network, there are no updates packets sent from the 3750 to the 3845.  I have not had success to this point trying to resolve.  I have followed the Cisco document "Troubleshooting EIGRP Flow Chart", but have exhausted all it has to offer and now it is at the point where it is telling me to contact TAC.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Does 3750 / 3560 Switch Support Eigrp Or Ospf

Feb 17, 2013

I believe the answer is yes, but incorperating more layer 3 features of our 3750's, I want to know if they fully support EIGRP or OSPF?

Also for a small business of 4 locations, each with a 10mbps fiber and a 1.5mbps mpls... wouldn't you say EIGRP would be easier?  Want to look at making the failover automatic if the 10mbps fiber goes down between a site, then the network fails over to 1.5mbps mpls. When the fiber returns in service then the network automatically preferr the fiber again.

Currently we use static routes and if there is a provider outage we have to manually edit the config to flip flop the routes.

Cisco :: ASA 5505 Introducing Networking Loops

Jun 19, 2012

Have a number of organisations that I work with who are currently all changing their ISP to a different one. The company who are supporting this are introducing a new router and firewall to the network and removing the old layer 3 switch. Firewalling and filtering was previously done off site but will now be handled by the ASA 5505. I personally do not have permission to configure the ASA (nor would I know how to) So these places are set up with 2 ip ranges, so int 0 on the ASA is 10.0.0.1, int 1 is 10.0.1.1. The Cisco ASA has been configured with the same settings on it's required ports as the old layer 3 switch had, so nothing much has to change on the internal network. Problem is that the old layer 3 switch must have only been passing data through at layer 3, so basically not switching and not creating networking loops. It seems that due to certain required network topologies, switch A is connected to switch B, which is connected to switch C, which is connected to the ASA, but switch A will also be plugged into one of the interfaces on the ASA (creating a loop). As I've said, this was not a problem with the layer 3 switch but now the ASA must be switching at layer 2 (I guess...?) as well as routing to the internet (which is required for both ports, which are vlans) and so is messing up the lan with a switching loop.

can the ASA 5505 be configured so as to allow access to the internet for both vlans/ip ranges while also preventing switching loops being created? It seems definite that this is being caused by the introduction of the 5505 as the old setup was exactly the same, it's just that the 2 cables have been plugged into the 5505. We do not have the option of using STP here as the rest of the switches on the network are unmanaged.

Cisco Firewall :: 6500 - Introducing ASA Into Setup Instead Of Using FWSM

Jan 3, 2013

We are thinking of introducing ASA's into our setup instead of using FWSM for our firewalls with our 6500. Currently we use multiple contexts with the FWSM, as we provide hosting services for multiple clients and want them behidn their own firewall. My question is how can we make this happen with an ASA. Since with the FWSM we use the backplane of the 6500 and SVI's for all interfaces between them. For example if we have 20 clients what will be the ideal setup for us to use with an ASA. If we can infact use mutiple contexts how can we? Is there a way we can maybe bundle all the ports in the ASA into the 6500 as a layer two trunk port and continue to use SVIs to manage all the clients.

Can't Get ICS To Work Fully?

Aug 23, 2012

The host computer runs Windows XP (SP3), and the client - Windows 7 Ultimate. The host computer connects to the internet with a USB wireless modem (HSUPA USB modem by ZTE). So I enabled sharing and connected the two computers with an Ethernet cable, so the first time it worked. The next time I turned on the computers I wasn't able to share the internet, I wasn't able to load any pages on the client computer, however Skype was working. I tried to use various guides on how to input IP addresses manually etc, but that didn't work, finally I felt like I had changed so much that I decided to restore both machines to an earlier point and start over, that still didn't work.

Then I bought a Cross-over Ethernet cable, and the first time I connected the computers - the internet was working on the client computer, I reboot - only Skype works. When I try to diagnose the problem on Windows 7, it usually can't find anything (it says that I have access to the Internet, but in the "Details..." it says that IPV6 has no internet access), or once it said something about IP addresses but wasn't able to fix it, the other time it said that DHCP wasn't enabled on the client computer and it enabled it and the internet started working. Right now on the client computer in LAN "Details..." it says that DHCP is disabled, but the diagnostic tool doesn't detect anything.

What numbers I should blur, when I restored, on the XP (host) computer the antivirus broke down (avast, free), so I had to uninstall it with a special uninstaller through safe mode and install it again, so when I reinstalled the internet sharing was working again, so it made me think that it was avast's fault, however there's no firewall in my free version so in avast forum I was told that avast is not the problem.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5510 - Verifying NAT Is Fully Disabled Between Two Interfaces?

Jun 24, 2012

I am trying to configure two inside interfaces without NAT. I am not using nat-control and I have added exemptions for the two networks. I can communicate between the two networks and to the Internet just fine.I would like to verify that NAT is disabled between the two interfaces. I also need to make sure that the Interface IP (specifically for the traffic from inside-test to  the inside network) is not added to packets between the two networks. I would like to be able to verify this as well. In other words I need to have the Source IP address from the originating connection on the inside-test network passed along through to the Inside network device without being replaced by the Interface's IP address. This is a test config for a production environment that will be using a load balancer. The config I have may be working in this regard and the load balancer may be replacing this IP address (that is what I am trying to test), but I am not certain. So far I have the following NAT related running-config command (in regards to these two interfaces):

Pages Don't Load But Internet Shows Fully Connected?

Nov 27, 2011

My computer (running windows XP and connected to the internet with a D Link USB adapter) refuses to load any webpages: despite showing full signal strength and connection in both the D Link settings and the windows XP wireless panel.I am able to ping websites and other computers in the house (all of which are able to access the internet) but no pages load in any browser I try.
