Cisco WAN :: Fails In Production Network ADTRAN 1224R

Sep 25, 2011

This is a real world project. A Cisco 1700  series router will be installed at one location and a ADTRAN 1224R  router will be installed on the other side. I’d like to test it before  installing at client-side by using a Cisco 2800 and the ADTRAN mentioned  above. I made a T1 crossover cable and CD led is green on 1DSU-T1 V2 of  2800.

I believe something is wrong with clocking. I used service-module t1 clock source internal command on 2800 to provide clocking and set ADTRAN clocking to Line BUT If I reboot the ADTRAN, while debugging service-module on 2800,  I can see this:SERVICE_MODULE(Serial0/1/0):Unit has no clock [complete output is below].

And even if I swap clocking sources,  still get the same output on 2800 as above.PPP requests sent from either sides are not acknowledged. [output below]

I get Se0/1/0 PPP: Authorization required every a few seconds on 2800. [output below]

Cisco 2800 (hostname MEE_KC)

1. sh run

username MEE_GF password 0 w1ll0w
interface Serial0/1/0
ip address 100.100.100.1 255.255.255.252
encapsulation ppp
service-module t1 clock source internal
service-module t1 fdl ansi
ppp authentication chap pap

2. sh int s0/1/0
Serial0/1/0 is up,
line protocol is down
Hardware is GT96K with integrated T1 CSU/DSU
Internet address is 100.100.100.1/30

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 IOS Upgrade On Production Network

Nov 21, 2012

Looking for input/thoughts on the upgrade of our 3560's and 3750's while on production network.

While we could remotely send the IOS over the network to the device, I'm concerned about errors and the lack of physical control of the device. So, the thought is to just go to the comm closet, plug in with laptop to the console port, and upgrade the IOS over the console port. But this would require xmodem, correct? I know the fastest way would be to a. configure an empty fa0/0 port to no switchport, add an IP address, and use tftp. BUT, we would have to isolate the switch from the production network while connected to it with our laptop. Otherwise, our laptop would be seen on the network as an unknown device, and there would be repercussions...

So, we console into the device, and u/l the IOS that way. Is there a way to increase the baud rate on the switch to 115200, change putty to 115200, then do the x modem? I just say we should shut all the ports to isolate the switch from the network, then tftp the IOS to the switch. Unplug, reopen the ports, then reboot the switch.

Cisco Routers :: RVS4000 VPN Behind Adtran Router?

Sep 5, 2011

So, I'm trying to set up a VPN tunnel between two sites.  Site A has a RVS4000 as the router to the internet.  Site B has a Adtran NetVanta 3200 to convert a frame relay to ethernet, so I can't replace the Adtran.  How do I set this up so I can create a tunnel between the two Cisco routers? I have static Internet IP addresses for the Cisco at Site A, the Adtran and Cisco at site B.  I have configured the two Ciscos to set up their tunnel and I've been able to establish the tunnel between my house (where I put Cisco B in place of my home router as a test) and the Cisco at Site A.  So, I know my tunnel settings are ok (with the exception of IP address changes).

1.) put the Adtran in bridge mode and use the Cisco as the firewall, DHCP, etc.  No clue how to do that.
2.) put the Cisco in a DMZ set up on the Adtran.  If I do that, it wouldn't really give me access through the VPN to the network, right?
3.) set up static routes between the Adtran and the Cisco?  static using the internal IPs or the external ones?

I'm not concerned about Site A since I know the internet works there and the VPN tunnel settings are easy enough to change once I actually get the internet working with the two router combo at site B. [code] I don't care which one does the firewall, NAT, etc.  To me it would seem easier to have the Adtran send all traffic to the Cisco, then let the Cisco do the rest (VPN, firewall, DHCP, DNS, etc.).

Cisco VPN :: Extend Production VLAN Behind ASA5510 To Remote Site And 2821?

Feb 24, 2011

I have an ASA 5510 and would like to extend one of the subnets behind this ASA out to my house that has a cable modem, a wireless router/switch and then behind that I have a 2821 router.  I've been reading and it looks like L2TP may be the way to go but can't find and config examples.  Again, I would like to securely extend one and nail up a permanent connection of one of the VLANs in the production network all the way into my house using my cable modem and the 2821.  Any config examples!  Also, any IOS recommendations for the 2821.  Lastly, does L2TP look like the way I need to go?  I'm attaching a very basic Visio diagram of what I'm trying to do.

Sharing :: Use Old Computer As Auto-sync Backup And Production Server?

Jun 20, 2011

I have this idea of using my old computer (which is still pretty awesome) as a back up + production server. What this would entail would be that each person in my house has a dedicated hard drive that auto-syncs folders they've selected for backing up (not Memeo under any circumstances!). Then there will be a hard drive for me to work on web projects on. I'd like this computer to be very secure but if needed, I could show my work on the production drive to my boss.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Configuring Production 6509 For ISCSI Storage And VMware

Mar 11, 2012

I've been searching the forums to see if any other users have completed this type of configuration successfully with not much luck.  I have a Cat 6509 currently in production.  We have several Vlans and all communication and routing is funtional in our environment.  We are going to be adding an iSCSI Storage environment, and within a couple of months, adding a 3 Host VMware farm.  I've configured several iSCSI environments using dedicated switches for the iSCSI network but never to existing production switches. My thoughts are to add two iSCSI Vlans outside of the production IP Scheme to the 6509 with no SVI, attach storage controller's NICS ports to the management network and of course, other available NIC ports to the iSCSI network.  My question is, what is the best practice in configuring the 6509 i.e. switchports, Jumbo Frames, Flow-Control to support iSCSI on a 6509 that is in production and what are possible risks if any with enabling Jumbo Frames, Flow-Control etc?

Cisco WAN :: 2811 SRST / K9 Fails To Communicate With Network

Sep 14, 2011

I have a Cisco2811 SRST/K9 router with a four port FXO that is part of our phone system.  It won't ping to anything on the network except for one particular switch.  I can ping that switch (but nothing else) and that switch can ping the router and telnet into the router; however, when I plug the router into any other switch on my network, it will still only successfully ping that one switch.  It won't ping the switch that it's physically attached to.  I can see the router from the switch when I do a Show CDP Neighbor.  And I can see the switch when I do a Show CDP Neighbor from the router.  But it won't ping.  When I do a Show Adjacency from the router, it returns only that one switch.  I've tried a Clear ARP on both the switch and the router.  I've also compared the config from the router to the config of a working router on the network and everthing looks the same. I can ping anything on my network from these switches - except that router.  I even tried changing the default gateway of the router to be the ip address of the switch with which it can successfully communicate.

Mapped Network Drive Fails At Random?

Mar 18, 2011

I am having an issue with 3 xp pc's in my network loosing connectivity to the file server. There are 4 network drives mapped to a win 2k3 server, when the user logs in everything is fine, after a while the network drives become unreachable and gives the following error - An error accrued while reconnecting (drive letter) to \servershare Microsoft windows network: The local device is already in use The connection has not been restarted” This happens from any user on only 3 boxes. The rest of the network is fine. These 3 are networked via a switch, I swapped that out for another hoping that might fix it, but nothing.

The other odd thing is the same time that the network drives error out it seems that DNS stops resolving anything outside my network. I can still ping the router and other pcs on the LAN but DNS fails to resolve any names for IE, and nothing outside the LAN can be pinged, no Google, no 8.8.8.8. How ever restarting fixes the issue for a short while. There have been no network changes and all systems are fully up to date as far as patches go. I was thinking it's got to be a ether a DNS issue (the file server is also the Active Directory Domain controller) or something in to do with the router/fire wall we use (it's a Cisco ASA 5005).

Cisco Wireless :: WAP121 Connected To Network Printer (fails)

Feb 24, 2013

Bought multiple WAP121s which are physically connected via CAT5 to the Ethernet NIC of a printer. Printer is in a warehouse with no Ethernet cabling -- but there is a wifi signal provided by  a Cisco wireless router -- which is why we got the WAPs -- so PCs could get their jobs sent to the printer via Wifi > WAP > printer NIC.

Problem is the printers only stay visible on for about 15 min or so -- then disappear. Only way to get them visible again is to do a powercycle on the printer (not the WAP121).  Then it stays visible for for another 15 minutes or so -- then disappears.  If a Workstation sends a continues (-t) ping to the printer IP -- the printer will stay online and get print jobs.... but if activity is idle for 10-15 minutes... it disappears (power-save is off on the printer).

Firmware on WAP121 is current.

What setting on the WAP could be enable to keep the printers alive?  have been trying to operate in bridge mode...  What is the "best practice" here for connecting a printer to a WIFI via these WAP121s?

Dell Latitude D600 Network Connection Fails

Feb 6, 2011

problem with my Dell Latitude D600 Laptop,I tried re-installing my OS, so now with a fresh new OS the wireless capabilities worked fine, but only for the first day, then the next morning the whole problem began again. Now it would say " No supported wireless adapters found" and when i would open the device manager some devices would have the yellow exclamation point, some of the devices would say "Intel PCIC compatible PCMICA controller" and " PCMICA MTD-0002" or just "card bus controller" and many other ones that would alternate when they appear. And also sometimes my network adapters would completely disappear from the list. I also tried scanning my whole drive for viruses and nothing was found.

Then i found that if you disconnect the wireless adapter physically and re connect it, it might work, but it didn't. I should also add that before this problem for some time i had another problem with the same laptop that had to do with the battery malfunctioning, and it displays a 4 orange , 1 green pattern sequence on the LED charge display. But it had never affected any of the laptops hardware or software before, so I don't know if that might have anything to do with it.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3350 - Network Based Application Fails To Open During The Day

Jan 21, 2013

I work at a hospital and one of our department uses specialized software created by Varian Medical Systems.  It has been brought to my attention that one of those applications has trouble opening during the day.  I had the users demonstrate the issue and from what they explained to they are supposed to be able to open the application, log in, and be presented with a list of radiology images to choose from.  Unfortunately, during the day this fails often and they have to try 3 or 4 times before it actually works.  It behaves differently after 4 pm, and seems to work after the 1st or 2nd time at that time of the day.  According to what I've been told this has been an issue as long as they can remember.

Varian has told me that they have done a number of things on their side to rule out their software and they think it is a network issue.  We used Solar winds Engineer's Tool set (specifically the Network Performance Monitor) to monitor their switch and it is reporting no errors and the utilization graphs show that the ports involved have very little utilization.  The most heavily utilized port is hovering between 10 and 5 person (Fa0/40).  I've included a network diagram, but basically we have 1 10/100 Cisco 3350 switch (c3550-ipservices-mz.122-25.SEB4.bin), 4 clients, and 2 servers involved.  They all are connected to the same switch at A-Full/A-100mbps.  Although the Network Performance Monitor doesn't show any errors or over utilizaton of the ports in the the CLI I do see 35 output buffer failures and 35 under runs on the port connected to one of the servers (Fa0/40).  They were a little higher and I cleared them about two weeks ago and then rebooted the switch, because I found that it could alleviate these types of errors.

They say the software use ports 5000, 55000, 55010, and 55020.  We tried a packet capture, but I didn't have enough experience/knowledge to get anything useful out of it.  I also checked the event logs on the clients and servers and nothing there indicates a issue in the software.  They want us to replace the switch with a gigabit switch, but we have a REALLY limited budget and I would rather not if it isn't necessary. What I could try in order to rule out the network?

Home Network :: TP-Link Wireless Access Point / Ethernet Switcher (TL-SF2005D) Fails To Connect?

Jun 6, 2011

I have just bought a TP-Link Wireless Access Point (TL-WA&01ND) and an ethernet switcher (TL-SF2005D).I have put the access point into client mode, allowing me to put it in my room and wirelessly connect to my router, allowing me to plug my PC in over ethernet and use the internet. However, after much fiddling with settings I cannot get it to work, as it continually searches for a network, and then fails to connect, despite the fact it is configured to use the network?I already have a similar setup with a netgear wireless G access point which works, and so I dont understand why the new box cannot do this when using what I believe to be the same settings.

Secondly I have an ethernet switch box which I bought to connect to the access point and switch the ethernet signal between my two PCs, my xbox and PC. This works fine with my primary PC (over my old access point) but when I try to connect my PC i get a DNS failure with auto IP settings and a gateway failure with manual settings, and other devices refuse to connect.

Cisco VPN :: 881 Fails After 24 Hours / IKE Key Lifetime

May 28, 2013

We've got a central office (actually quite small) where several IPSec connections connect to. Two of these connections are Cisco 881 routers. One of them works fine, the other craps out after 24 hours (coincidentally also the IKE key lifetime). When I mean "craps out", it means the VPN worked fine from the get go, until 24 hours later. Only a reload will bring back the VPN tunnel. I've verified my PFS and DPD configurations are solid, because these kind of symptoms would most likely occur when these configurations aren't in order.

The two 881 configurations are quite similar. The only differences between the two are some details in the PPPoE configurations and (quite obviously) the IP address space for the two sites. Both operate on the premise of a point to point connection (no multipoint stuff going on here).
