View 8 Replies View RelatedI was unsure whether to post this in networking or the XP forum. I am fairly computer literate, but have hit a stumbling block.
For over the last month I have been getting download speeds of 1-2mb on my 10mb connection via speedtest and other speed checkers. However, if I use safe mode, I get 10mb straight away. Virgin Media (my ISP) have been out and plugged a laptop into my connection and they get 10mb straight away.
I have tried both IExplore and Firefox. I have zonealarm firewall and avast antivirus. I have ran a boot-time AV check. I have also ran spybot and malwarebytes which all found nothing.
I have tried completely disabling my anti virus & firewall and running speed tests - still the same. I have tried using msconfig and disabling all but core components - still the same.
My pingtest just came up with this:-
Packet loss test: FAILED (I do have java installed), fails on IExplore and Firefox.
Ping: 895ms
Jitter: 1413ms
I am doing a comparative between cisco and sonicwall routers. Which router would better fit me? i need it to support at least a 20MB internet connection in a datacenter and has to have a firewall included. I was thinking about a router 1941. What do you think ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using E4200 (fw 1.0.03) as AP and EDIMAX 6675nD as a client. I can't get over ca 10MB/s data througput even there aren't any other communication loads. Test conditions are: 5GHz band, no other networks in the band, distance 2m without any obstacles, no other data transfers (except the test), data source is NTB on GLAN port of Linksys, data sink is NAS at GLAN port of Edimax, test file is 0.5GB file. The NTB and NAS doesn't seems to be a bottleneck, because NTB connected directly to the Edimax does over 50MB/s. Both the E4200 and 6675nD are (should be) capable of 450Mbit/s @ MCS23. Strange thing is that none of them allows setting of MCS23 in their manual settings. It ends with MCS15. While forcing the E4200 to a specific MCS (in the hidden wireless_advanced menu) the MCS15, 14, 13 and auto give very similar results. The throughput drops by MCS 12 and lower indexed MCSs.The 10 MB/s seems to be a low number.... and (based on internet forums) I'm not the only one fighting the magic number 10MB/s. What is the reason of the ca 10MB/s bottleneck? And the resons why both of the routers are quiet about the MCS16 to 23 schemes in their menus, while their labels aren't?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe have a MWR2941 (running 12.4(20)MR) router on site A and one in site B which will be connected over a Service provider L2VPN Ethernet over MPLS (EoMPLS) Network, with 10Mb Bandwidth allocated by the ISP. I have simulated this in the lab by directly connecting the two MWR's back-to-back via the Gig0/0 interface with configurable bandwidth of 10Mb on the Trunk interface.
The E1 TDM pseudowire end to end is working fine, with PTP configured for E1 timing/clocking. In addition I have a 2960-24PC-L switch connected on G0/2 of the MWR (on each end) configured with dot1q trunking. The switch will be used to connect two user groups in two seperate vlans (VlanA and vlanb) and transported across the same 10MB wan Link. Below are the requirements
1) Classify and mark Psuedowire packets E1-DATA coming from a E1/CEM interface and give it priority treatment over the WAN Link with reserved bandwidth of at least 4MB
2) Classify and mark Signalling/Timing PTP packets coming from PTP Vlan and give it strict bandwidth reservation over the WAN Link of 1MB
3) Classify and mark vlan A traffic coming from the 2960 Switch Trunk port (Connected to G0/2 on MWR) and give it bandwidth reservation over the WAN Link of 2MB
4) Classify and mark vlan B traffic coming from the 2960 Switch Trunk port (Connected to G0/2 on MWR) and give it bandwidth reservation over the WAN Link of 2MB
It is important that the E1 Traffic and the Signalling/Timing PTP packets are given priority and strict reservation so that it is not dropped in times of congestion. At the same time Vlan A and Vlan B need bandwidth reservation to give them their guaranteed bandwidth.
Currently I have tried applying policy map to the CEM interface. However, I am having trouble matching anything on the CEM input. Also I am having trouble applying a service-policy outbound on the gig0/0 (WAN Link). Also I can’t apply a service-policy inbound on the Gig0/2 interface with match statement. I have tried configuring input policy map to classify and mark PTP traffic (Vlan 902), but the MWR does not also allow me to attach a service-policy to the vlan interface. how to configure the MWR and have a workable QOS solution.
Cable modem into cisco-linksys E4200. 2 of the ports going out from the router plug into the wall, where one goes to the master bedroom and one goes to the living room. Once it gets to the wall jack in each of those rooms it goes out to a gigabit switch. Each of those two rooms has a computer and a TV connected, and the living room as a blu-ray also connected to the switch. The third port going out from the E4200 router goes to another gigabit switch, which is connected to a couple more computers in that room. All of the cables are either cat5e or cat6. The long cables running through the wall from the server room to the living room and master bedroom is 24gauge 4pair cat5e, it was run by a general contractor.
When I transfer between any of the computers on the network as it sits I get 11MB/sec. I get that number by clicking more details on the file transfer. In the network tab of task manager it sits pretty consistently at 10%.If I move any of the computers to be connected to the SAME switch (i tested all 3) i can transfer around 60MB/sec.Based on this testing my initial instinct is to say that the cable running between the rooms is limiting the transfer speed. However the cable is cat5e and rated for gigabit. Neither of the runs are anywhere near 300ft long. Plus the consistency of the transfer speeds at 11MB/sec makes me think it's being clearly capped at 100base-T speeds as opposed to just slowing down due to interference of the cable. As a side note there is a place in the router that tells you the speed of each port. For some reason it has one of my ports listed as gigabit and the others listed as 10/100Mbps. The yellow 3 foot cable i have is listing as gigabit, when i swap it with another cable in the router it changes the gigabit port to the one this yellow cable is on, very odd, however regardless of whether the router says its gigabit it only transfers at 11MB/sec anyway. What I'm wondering is what could be causing this limitation besides the two cables running through the wall? Is that the only thing that could be doing it? What is the best way to really test it out? Do I need to buy some kind of network testing device that tests throughput?
We have a new 50/10MB Comcast Deluxe connection we are trying to set up in our environment. We have a single static IP and the Comcast provided SMC-3DG router/modem has been set to "bridge mode" by Comcast. This is then plugged into one of the interfaces and that interface has the static IP defined on it with a default route to the Comcast provided gateway IP. I wired the 2851 into our layer 3 switch, set up some static routes on the 2851 back to our existing subnets and everything traffic-wise is flowing between our existing subnets and this new router.
Since the default route on our layer 3 switch is defaulted to our older 2811 router (that I'm intending on replacing with this 2851), I set up a static route on our layer 3 switch to guide all traffic for speedtest.net and comcast.speedtest.net out to the 2851 router. Doing speed tests show 12 MB down, .5 MB up. Connecting a laptop directly to the Comcast SMC modem and setting it's IP to the static IP shows full speeds again, so the issue has to be with our configuration/equipment.
Can a Cisco 2851 support this 50mb Comcast connection and do I just have it configured wrong? Or do I need a different router altogether? At first I tried the 2811 but that had slow speeds, so I figured the 2851 with twice the throughput would do a better job but for some reason it is not currently. I have played with duplex settings (100, full, half, auto) and nothing changed. I updated the 2851 to the latest 12.4 firmware and also no change.
how to configure a router 2900 to support connection from 2 firewall ( Active Standby connections) How can i said the router to send the traffic to the stand by when it go down the active Firewall?I was planning to use a Switch ( layer 2 capacity only) in the middle of the equipments ( between the firewalls and the router) in order to send always the traffic for 1 physical interface from the router side , and manage to route all the internatl traffic to the virtual IP of both Firewalls. Also i dont know yet how to configure a VPN site to site if i have that scheme and some Publics NAT ( Firewall - Switch - Router ), i was planning to configure a NAT in the Router in order to allow the VPN traffic to internal IP of the Firewall but still dont know if it will work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe web site says that the E4200 has a USB port to connect USB drives and printers. That sounded to me like multiple devices could be added. It says nothing about only being able to connect one. Since I have 3 USB drives and 2 USB printers, that sounded great. Setting it up, it seems that this port will not use a HUB, and can only be used for one USB device. How can that be? That is so limiting as to be nearly useless.

I guess I want it to act as a wireless NIC for the desktop while also operating as a repeater. Is this possible? If not, will one of the other AP settings like Bridge allow the wired connection to connect to the other side of the network and give wireless access to wireless devices? I've hacked up and attached one of Linksys's diagrams to show what I'm trying to do. It seems to me the easiest thing to do would be to buy a wireless NIC for the desktop.
I am using an RV042 router/firewall -- firmware v1.3.13.02-tm -- connected to a cable modem.I have one public address (WAN1) assigned by my ISP's DHCP server. All my machines on the LAN have static IPs. (RV042 DHCP Server is disabled.)I have set up port (80) forwarding to 192.168.1.101 The HTTP port forwarding does work if an http client on the LAN sends a request to http://<public-ip>:80But I cannot get a response if I send a request to http://<public-ip>:80 from a machine on the WAN.
I did configure Access Rules to allow http traffic (and then tried to allow *all* traffic) between a single IP on the WAN and 192.168.1.101 The incoming log table shows a connection is made from the http client on the internet to the correct http server on the LAN, but there is no resonse from the LAN to the remote client. Is my configuration the problem, or is this feature not supported by the RV042 router? Could my cable modem be blocking outbound traffic?

The internet seems very fast at times but slows down, and even completely stop working, at other times. The weird thing is that my computer never says I'm disconnected from the internet. Instead, I either get disconnected from my games or the webpages I try to load show that it "cannot be displayed." The place I moved into provides wall jacks for a T-1 internet connection. I've tried directly connecting the ethernet cable to my desktop/laptop as well as connecting it to a router and trying out the wireless, all to no avail. The problem only seems to be resonating from where I'm currently living, as when I go onto campus, the wireless is fine. Also tried turning off firewalls, using a different browser, resetting the router, and a new ethernet cable.
