I have an Canon MP 530 that works great for my home office network, but right now it's being shared off one of my PCs. I would like to network it like my HP LaserJet P2055dn, but not just printing, also fax and scan (via Adobe Acrobat Pro). Does this product really exist.
About two years ago I bought a Linksys device that turned out to be a $100 mistake, but now I'm really needing this sharing functionality.
I have a SMC Gateway Router and 2 computers connected to it with RJ-45 cable. They are (1 iMac + 1 PC) 150 feet apart both computers are wired to the router.I also have a Canon Pixma MP 560 Multifunction Inkjet printer that has the capability to be connected both wired and wireless. Right now it is only connected to the iMac via a USB connection as all 3 (router, iMac and printer) are on the same workstation.how to connect the printer so it could also support the 2nd computer a Windows PC which is located on the floor below. Can I do that through the wired router too?If not possible, I also have the capability to connect wirelessly although I would prefer to use the wired connnections. The PC has a Belkin USB 2.0 Network Adapter for wireless connection; both SMC Router and Belkin USB adapter are 902.11 N capable
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am currently trying to decide on the best remote support software to purchase for a 50+ workstation business. I have experimented with Real VNC and TeamViewer, and whilst they are quite comparable I noticed that TeamViewer has a feature called "Seamless Windows" I will be providing remote support to local users, and several interstate branches - therefore the software that I decide on must accommodate a wide diversity of geographical locations.I was also looking at a product called GoverLAN, but it seems to me that GoverLAN only works on a single LAN and can't be used over a WAN in a similar way to both RealVNC & TeamViewer?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have decided to buy a new wireless N enabled wireless router after my house was cleaned out by some robbers. After a long investigation I decided on the D-link DIR 655 as it suited my basic needs the best and since I haven't decided on a broadband supplier yet this should sort any and all possibilities no matter what I choose...
After an equal amount of investigation I decided on a HSPA+ USB dongle only to find that the router does not support the network I have purchased it on. It thenalso seems that it doesn't support the E1820 Huawei dongle either... so fine... I go and buy a Huawei D105 tht should technically be able to connect via the WAN port and would act as an internet gateway. Brilliant.
Now I have tried everything.... static IP on the D105 with a static IP setup on the 655. Connects fine... according to the web interface but NO INTERNET. When I connect my laptop directly to the 105 via CAT5 it works beautifully. DHCP on the D105 with the same on the 655. Connecting... Establishing Link (Please Wait...) FOREVER without ever getting an IP on the 655 (according to the web interface again) ... must be the D105 thats faulty so again plug in the laptop and within milliseconds the IP is assigned and Internet is blazing along again.... The D105 is not Wireless N so I cannot use it as my primary AP and only allows 5 simultaneous wireless connections (that is reserved for my cellphones). Why should I anyway?? the DIR655 should work fine....
Even after having taken it to D-link support at huge cost and effort I still don't have a working rig.... Seems the consultant plugged the D105 straight into the LAN on the 655 and then set his laptop to the same static range to get it to work... SURPRISE - I know that works since plugging the laptop straight into the 105 does the same thing.... But this is not what I want... I want my 655 to be the primary DHCP server for my network and control the allowed workstations that are allowed access to the internet with a working gateway. Bridging is apparently also not an option as that option has been removed so I cannot even bridge my main subnet onto the D105's internet sbnet... What am I to do....
If the 655 3G setup supported more than 2 dongles I might hve been able to use that and not spend anouther R600 on the D105, if the WAN port actually worked in either static or DHCP modes with the D105 that also would have solved the problem and lastly if all else fails and there was still bridging I could hack my own setup together to do what I want. Seems like I was wrong in selecting the D-link product.
Then to make matters worse I find another product with double the features online for half the price that integrates the 3G capability into the route and support more than 2 different models. including all the new Huawei dongles....
I'm looking for a wireless router that is compatible with mobile broadband, dsl broadband and cable broadband. It should have a signal range of at least 12 metres.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe web site says that the E4200 has a USB port to connect USB drives and printers. That sounded to me like multiple devices could be added. It says nothing about only being able to connect one. Since I have 3 USB drives and 2 USB printers, that sounded great. Setting it up, it seems that this port will not use a HUB, and can only be used for one USB device. How can that be? That is so limiting as to be nearly useless.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been researching this for some time now and I can't find a solution to fit my needsI'm deployed in Afghanistan and on the base the local company they brought in has a hard wired network setup which makes you log in for internet. I want to setup wireless off of that with my own router and charge a smaller price. I know this sounds bad but they charge a pretty absurd amount. I would like to lessen that amount for the guys in my unit by splitting the price between everyone. I would like to make it look good though.
The login for the existing internet is a web based login. So, what I have come across so far is I need a router that will support logging into a web based login and support a landing page that will charge/ accept Paypal payments for new accounts and will expiredaily/weekly/monthly based on what they choose. I would like to set this up like you as a customer were loging in at a regular hot spot if that makes sense.
I have 2 questions:
1. Does WRT160N support 1000Mbps LAN connections ?
2. what are the differences between WRT160N and WRT120N routers? (There is no difference when I use the compare feature of the wesite).
The latest firmware seems to support bridge mode. Does it mean the router can connect to another router wirelessly in the bridge mode?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have read various forum postings saying to get the best performance from a wifi router you have to use channel 149 or greater and that 36-48 have a weaker signal strength and thus less range/speed.I live in New Zealand and when I select the wireless channel drop list for the 5GHz band it only lists 5 options - Auto (dfs), 36, 40, 44 and 48. I have read forum posts of people stating you should switch to 149 or greater and I have seen screenshots showing the drop list with 149 selected. But I don't have that option. If I check the Status > Wireless page it shows that channel 36 is being used (for Auto).Am I doing something wrong? Do E3000's in this part of the world not support 149 etc?I spoke in a live chat to a support rep who told me that all E3000's are the same everywhere in the world and there was little to no difference in firmware between them. I was also told that channels 36-48 are high gain channels and so there is no need for the other channels, which contradicts other articles I have read which state 36-48 are weaker channels.

Also, if I have to buy another router to support IPV6, I'm going to buy a D-Link. It's nothing personal, I just find it absolutely idiotic that a router that supports wireless-N doesn't support IPV6. You have to ask your self, how does the standard IPV6 spec thats a few years old not make it to the final product of a router, but a non-standard wireless-N spec implementation somehow got the O.K....?
