Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Does Not Have IPv6 Support
Feb 23, 2011I know that the E3000 does not have IPv6 support. I wanted to know if it will get a firmware update to support it?

View 9 RepliesIPV4 IP addresses will be running out in less than a year and I wanted to know, will there be a firmware update for WRT120N to support IPV6?
Also, if I have to buy another router to support IPV6, I'm going to buy a D-Link. It's nothing personal, I just find it absolutely idiotic that a router that supports wireless-N doesn't support IPV6. You have to ask your self, how does the standard IPV6 spec thats a few years old not make it to the final product of a router, but a non-standard wireless-N spec implementation somehow got the O.K....?

I have my router updated with the latest firmware and I'm pretty sure all the settings are correct but I'm only getting a max transfer rate of 144Mbps. I know this because I use InSSIDer 3 to analyse my wifi network etc. I stream movies over my network and while DVD quality movies play fine, HD movies tend to freeze and buffer a lot. I have the router's channel width set to 40Mhz, so I know that's not the problem. Strangely, I also use a Netgear wifi extender with the MR3420 and it's max rate is 300Mbps.
I have read various forum postings saying to get the best performance from a wifi router you have to use channel 149 or greater and that 36-48 have a weaker signal strength and thus less range/speed.I live in New Zealand and when I select the wireless channel drop list for the 5GHz band it only lists 5 options - Auto (dfs), 36, 40, 44 and 48. I have read forum posts of people stating you should switch to 149 or greater and I have seen screenshots showing the drop list with 149 selected. But I don't have that option. If I check the Status > Wireless page it shows that channel 36 is being used (for Auto).Am I doing something wrong? Do E3000's in this part of the world not support 149 etc?I spoke in a live chat to a support rep who told me that all E3000's are the same everywhere in the world and there was little to no difference in firmware between them. I was also told that channels 36-48 are high gain channels and so there is no need for the other channels, which contradicts other articles I have read which state 36-48 are weaker channels.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an E3000 to replace my failed WRT54G v5. With the E3000 I can't get my shared Windows folders to be accessed from my other PCs. I called telephone support and they informed me that the E3000 doesn't support file & printer sharing. WTH? Is this true? If so, I'm going to return the E3000 and get my money back. But I never heard of a router not supporting file & printer sharing. My WRT54G handled it just fine.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIs there support for album art or video thumbnails in the UPNP media server on the E3000? I've tried adding jpg files with the same name as the video file, but I see nothing in the client. I've also tried naming them 'folder.jpg' and 'cover.jpg' but still get nothing. If this isn't supported is there any plan to add support in the future?

From Cisco Documents they are asking to enable IPv6 support under WLAN > Edit Page, and Enabling mulicast on Ethernet Multicast Mode under Controller > General.
But from the GUI am not able to find the above two field, Even in Interface i created under Controller > interface is not accepting IPv6 address. I am able to configure IPv6 ACL .
Is any deployment document is available to show different scenarios with configuration.
Note - Am using Access point AIR-LAP1262N-N-k9
I find much document, but not found information about whether those support for IPv6 e.g. dual-stack like newer series.

I have an e4200 V1 with firmeare V 1.0.04 For my IPv4 configuration I use opendns.com for my DNS provider. When I enable IPv6, I get my ISPs DNS server rather than the one I have configured on the IPv4 page. It works, but it eliminates all filtering and statistics that I am able to do with opendns.com.Open DNS does provide two IPv6 DNS servers, but I don't seem to be able to find where to set them in my e4200. I want it set network wide. Can I set my IPv6 DNS provider anywhere in the e4200v1 with V 1.0.04?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOur internet provider has no intention of providing a IPv6 DNS so I have a crippled at best service. We live in an area where our only option is through satellite service, so changing providers in not in the cards, yet.
If I "Disable" the DHCP Sever, the setup menu provides a method for me to force feed up to three Static DNS addresses, all with IPv4 addresses.
There are several locations that provide "free" DNS service, but how does one verify the security of such sites? Does Cisco keep track of the status of this kind of service or am I on my own? Cisco seems to endorse two DDNS services, but for home use, the extra charges seem otherwise unnecessary, and do not yet address the IPv6 question.
The first few that I have investigated that do provide IPv6 service also provide their addresses in IPv6 format. The E4200 menu does not seem to allow me to do that.
Am I going to be forced to live with crippled IPv6? I have already discovered a software product that has failed since changing routers, but works if I take my laptop to a particular WiFi location.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was slightly dissapointed with the performance of the "pre-sales" phone number of Cisco in the Netherlands so I am asking it here instead. We decided on using 2 Cisco 2921 routers with 2.5GB ram to use for a MultiHomed connection using BGP. We already have our v4 and v6 space assigned as well as our AS number. The connections should turn up soon. What I could not find out with proper certainty on the Cisco Feature Navigator is if the IP BASE on the Cisco 2921 supports both IPv4 and IPv6 routing combined with BGP. This model uses the Universal IOS licensing which I found slightly confusing. I could not find a simple matrix with the supported commands either.

So I've realized that my parental controls were being ignored by the computers, at first I figured my son had found a work around to by-pass. But reading through the forums today, I've found that IPv6 being enabled might be the cause of my issue. So I'm currently sitting at work and connected to my router remotely, but for the life of me, can't see where to disable this option. Using the Smart Wi-Fi interface, closest I can get is "Connectivity, Internet Settings, IPv6 but everything is grayed out and no option to edit this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedLets get this straight, right off! If I plugged my computer directly to my Comcast Modem, IPv6 works fine on the { url } So I do not think any of this problem is related to my computer
I bought a EA4500 Router so I would be ready for IPv6, and also wanted N as well as the storage USB port. When I got the router, it came I guess with the original release firmware. It looked "Classic", but the box said Smart. I did the firmware upgrade. I could not get a IPv6 from Comcast. IPv4 worked fine.
I then changed to the latest "Classic: firmware, and all started to work. So I decided to try Smart again. Same thing, no IPv6 from Comcast. After being on chat for I think close to 2 hours today and getting no where, I did a reset to start at scratch again. I then got a IPv6 from Comcast. Many moons ago, it was a real hassle to switch devices hooked to a cable modem. At least here you had to power cycle the modem, so I have always cloned my wired Desktop MAC. So when I put it back in, I lost IPv6 from Comcast. Turned off MAC cloning, and I got the IPv6 again. So it looks like there is a bug in the Smart Firmware and MAC cloning since it worked OK with Classic firmware. OK, I could live with no cloning since the issues of yesteryear don't seem to be there in getting a IP from the cable modem.
Then for what ever reason, my computer would not get a valid IPv6 on the LAN from the router. I got some IP, but no Gateway. I tried everything I could think off. And again, plugging the computer directly to the cable modem, IPv6 worked fine. So something is just not right with this router as far as I am concerned.
Also, it seems like navigating through the menus on a local connection (192.168.1.1), I constantly got a message to wait popping up on the screen, for many seconds. If I had no Internet connection it would take forever on some things.
I have spent many hours on this, and am just giving up and going to look at another brand product. I don't need or want the "Smart" functions anyway.
