Cisco WAN :: QoS On 3560x IPBase?

Apr 24, 2012

I have two Cisco 3560x switches running IPBase on different sites joined by a 1gbps connection with routed ports. I have video data totalling 80mbps in site A that is crucial to arrive at Site B regardless of any other traffic on the network.

What I would ideally like to do is reserve 100mbps on the link from A->B which is only allowed to be used for this traffic. The traffic starts in a subnet of its own and finishes in a subnet of its own (i.e. only the video traffic is in the VLAN on each switch with data and voice in different subnets).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: IPservices Vs IPbase On 6509-E

Jan 14, 2013

Upgrading two 6509-E routers containing sup32's to two new 6509-E routers containing sup2T's. We run a large OSPF network but our core mainly is a switched network and only has about 5 Vlans. Now this could change in the future and there maybe more Vlans on it.

Just after realising our new sup32's shiped with ipbase instead of ipservices. Version is s2t54-IPBASEK9_NPE-M. My question is is this version ok for routing?

Our old current 6509's are version s32p3-ipbasek9-mz.122-18.ZYA3.bin and they do some routing about the same amount these new routers will do. Here is a summary of the routing table:

IP routing table name is Default-IP-Routing-Table(0)
Route Source    Networks    Subnets     Overhead    Memory (bytes)
connected       1           3           424         640
static          0           0           0           0
ospf 1          26          348         27520       59840
  Intra-area: 366 Inter-area: 0 External-1: 0 External-2: 8
  NSSA External-1: 0 NSSA External-2: 0
internal        12                                  14160
Total           39          351         27944       74640
Removing Queue Size 0

 Will I need to upgrade the new sup2T's to ipservices or will this version work ok?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Upgrading 4900m IOS From IPBase To Enterprise?

Feb 10, 2013

My current version IOS is cat4500e-ipbase-mz.122-53.SG5.bin.  I just got a new version cat4500e-entservicesk9-mz.122-53.SG5.bin.I put the new version in bootflash: directory and tried various methods of starting the IOS up to run the new version but it always started in the original ipbase version.  My start-config shows:

boot-start-marker
boot system flash bootflash:cat4500e-entservices9l-mz.122-53.SG5.bin
boot-end-marker

and I even deleted the ipbase version in the bootflash: directoy so then my switch would not even boot up at all and hung in rommon. In rommon I tried

boot bootflash:cat4500e-entservicesk9-mz.122-53.SG5.bin
and the result I got back was
File has bad file magic number: 0x0

So I had to point the switch to my tftp server and boot back into a back up copy of ipbase.  how I can get my new IOS version to work?  I understand I might have to download it again but I just got it so I am skeptical it is a bad file. [URL] as a procedure guide and I do notice some of those commands/steps do not work on my 4900m switch.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X - IPBase And GhostCast Server

Jul 23, 2012

I imagine this question has been posted a million times before but here goes.  I am trying to image a number of machines via Ghost Cast server across a 3750X stack running multiple V LAN's.  I am running the IP BASE image so am aware that multicast functionality is limited.

 I am running 12.2(55)SE3. I have tried adding both V LAN's into an IGMP group using the "ip igmp join-group" command which shows both V LANs as part of the group but to no real effect.  To be honest though I am clutching at straws!  I'm just starting to read through the documentation so hopefully that will work.

Cisco Firewall :: Upgrade ASA 5505 IPBase 8.2.1 To 8.2.5 Broke External Printer

May 16, 2013

I have a printer sitting on an outside interface e0/7 that external vendors were able to print to prior to an ISP IP address change and IOS upgrade.

We upgraded our IOS from 8.2.1 to 8.2.5. The printer wasn't changed so the MAC address mapping is still correct on the ISP translation list. The ISP issues DHCP MAC reservations for static IP address assignment. My printer doesn't seem to be getting the DHCP assignment now.

Here is the before and after config. I'm just wondering since this worked prior to changeing the IP and IOS changes if there is another command I need since upgrading from 8.2.1 to 8.2.5. The DHCP IP address is assigned and is working on my e0/0 vlan2 outside interface.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750x 12.2(58)SE2 IPBASE 10gb Uplink Ports Not Being Displayed

May 28, 2012

we have just purchased a few 3750x's that we intend to add to our 3750g stacks.  We've purchased the 10gb uplink modules, C3kx-nm-10gt, but when they are installed they are not appearing in the switches web gui nor can you configure them correctly.  If we upgrade a 3750x to 15.0.1 they seem to work fine.  All of our current 3750g's are running 12.2(58)SE2 IPBASE so we don't really want to have to upgrade them all to 15.0.1

Are we missing something or do the 10gb modules only work properly with ios 15.0.1?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: C3750X Stack / Difference Between LanBase And IPBase For ISCSI?

Dec 26, 2011

Cisco let us try a CISCO C3750X- 24T-S  Stack (2 switches)  ->> IpBase Sofware licence We've 2 Hyper-v 2008 R2 and one SAN Netapp FAS2040 connected via Iscsi.All was working well with this stacks.Hyper-V see Nas Iscsi interface without problem. Even with basic stack config (no Vlan, ect...).Then, after this test period, we bought a C3750X-24T-L stack (2 switches) to replace the stack lent by Cisco.This one is LanBase Software.

With this stack, hyper-v work very bad ! We've got a lot of Iscsi error in the eventvwr.I can't access luns.So, is there a difference between LanBase and IpBase for a iscsi use ?I put the 24T-S config on the 24T-L switch without pb. So config is the same on both stacks...Also i've got a "TestPortAsicLoopback" = "Failed" on the new stack...I've tried with other stack cables. Not better.

Cisco WAN :: 3560X With IP Base In The Ring

Dec 27, 2010

I'm planning to use 2 3560X (access switch) on two different locations connected over two 2921 routers in small ring. 3560Xs are directly connected via fiber. Each 3560X is conected to its own 2921, and 2921s are connected together with GRE over IPSec. So they are creating ring.I'm planning to use small area 0 in this scenario. There are less then 200 routes in the network. Will 12.2(55) IP Base on 3560X support this scenario or I will need IP Services image? "OSPF for routed access" is still little vague to me, there are only tipical case study scenarios.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560X Not Connecting At 10 / Full

May 14, 2013

I have seen a similar post here from last year about a 10/half connection, but this is different.  I have a provider using a 2950 switch (they left CDP on so we can see it).  And we have to be set to 10/full to make this connection (as you know 10/half connected here would be or is horrible).  I have had this connection running on my 2921 router w/o issue but when I connect it to my 3560X, then I get no link light (shows down/down, not connected).

What else to know about what has been tried: Connecting link to switch with switch set to auto/auto (sp/dup). Speed is 10 (as it should be) but of course w/o the other side pulsing the voltage to know what to auto to, it defaults to half so this is unacceptabel, but, I do get a link light and can pass traffic, it's just a horrible experience.

Also tried the same setting speed and duplex vs. auto disco speed and duplex on other ports of the switch, no difference, same results. Also different patch cables, same results.

My current work around is to connect the providers 2950 (10/full) to my 2921 router @ (10/full) with a BVI to another port on the router which continues on to my 3560X at 1G/full.  And this works just fine.  Here's more info from my 3560X and the providers 2950:

License Type: Permanent
Next reload license Level: ipservices

Cisco Switches :: 3560X - Cannot Reach Management Vlan

Mar 12, 2013

In one of my client location I have deployed one Cisco 3560X (core switch) and one SG-200-18 (access switch). I’ve configured three vlans (vlan 2, vlan 3 and management vlan 1), relevant trunking and I’ve connected two pc to the access switch to vlan 2 and 3 respectively. So far everything (including inter-vlan communication) works fine, except that I couldn’t reach the vlan 1 (management vlan) devices (access switch and core switch) from any pc which is connected to either vlan 2 or 3.

I’ve configured the “port VLAN membership” settings in SG-300 as follows,

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560X Multicast Traffic Should Not Appear

Feb 18, 2013

I have a 3560X switch with interfaces 36-48 on the same LAN. All interfaces are switchports. Hosts on 38, 39 and 40 are multicast senders: all sending to the same single multicast address. Hosts on 36 and 37 are receivers, having joined that multicast group. I created an SVI for the LAN and put it in ip pim passive. (That is the only PIM mode allowed for an SVI with my IOS.) Show ip igmp snooping groups shows that 36 and 37 are the only interfaces in this group. I attach a laptop to interface 42 and Wireshark, and the laptop is receiving the multicast traffic. The laptop does not join the group. I expect it would not see the traffic.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560x Blocked ARP For 300sec

Jan 25, 2013

last week we have changed the connection of small town from licensed radio to direct fiber with clasic 1gig sfp.After that we have connected the new fiber , we can see 5 min outages of customer internet connection. If we are conncted on the same subnet anywhere on network, we can ping the customer all the time. But if we try to ping the customers public IP it is each 5 min for 5 min unreachable. I have tryed to sho logg in all switches but there are no mesasages. I just see, when comunication have lost, the MAC and IP of customer will disapear from routers ARP tabbel. What is going on?When i enter sho mac address-table i can see customers MAC address in all switches. There are exactly 5 min outages. 5min it runs ok, 5 min outage and it repeats agan.

I looks like the swith blocks the ARP packets from customers to their default gateway.The routers are connected to catalyst 3560x lan base ios, This switch is connected to another 3560x lan base ios and it is connected with fiber to ME3400 where are customers connected.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560X Crash And Reboot On IOS 15.0(2)SE

Jan 24, 2013

I have 3560X-24T-S switches with IP Services loaded at remote sites that I have been having troubles with.  Originally, they had IOS 12.2(58)SE1 on them.  I have up to four diverse paths via point-to-point microwave at the remote sites.  The Microwave equipment is by Microwave Networks and is a Prodeus M series which Ethernet support.  The original issue manifested itself as hardware loopback errors on some of the ports that were connected to the microwave links.

My experience in the past has been that when a hardware loopback error occurred it is usually a bad switch port.  In this case however, if I disconnected all of the microwave Ethernet links and rebooted the switch and then connected the Ethernet connections to the microwave links again, everything works fine.  No hardware loopback errors.  That is, until the next switch reboot.  Then the hardware loopback error would return.  Interestingly, it would come back on different ports connected to the microwave links every time.  So if a reboot was done without disconnecting the microwave Ethernet links the hardware loopback error would change from one microwave link to another after each reboot.

I then went through and read the lengthy release notes for IOS version 15.0(2)SE and found several fixes that I thought could fix my issue.  So I downloaded it and updated a couple of the offending switches (not all of them were having this problem).  After going through the second update required to resolve the 'open file error' that happens going between 12.2(58)SE1 and 15.0(2)SE the problem seemed to be resolved on the offending switches.  So, I went ahead and updated the IOS on all of the switches with point-to-point microwave connections.

I now have one switch that was updated that is crashing and rebooting continuously when the Ethernet links for the point-to-point microwave are connected.  Again, if I disconnect all the microwave links and reboot, it comes up fine ands stays fine when the microwave links are connected back up.  It will work fine until the next reboot and then the crash and reboot loop starts over again.  Below is a portion of the putty log when the crash occurs:

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560x / HSRP On LAN And WAN Interface?

May 9, 2012

I currently use L3 switches as edge routers to my WAN. I want to use a pair of 3560x switches with IPbase to provide a failover path to my WAN using HSRP at one location but had some problems testing the configuration. My plan is use a virtual address on the LAN interface (VLANx which port gi0/1 accesses) and the WAN interface (VLANy which port gi0/24 accesses). I want switch 1 to be primary since it will have an IPS attached to it, and switch 2 will be backup and used only when switch 1 or the IPS requires maintenance. On both the LAN and WAN sides there is no advanced routing going on, the various hosts just depend on the availability of their respective default gateways, so HSRP should be sufficient to provide a failover in either direction.

In my testing I got 1 or the other link to fail over but not the entire switch. What should my config look like to achieve failover of the entire switch in the event 1 or the other interface goes down, and fail back when the primary links are again available?
