View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys WRT54GS, version 6 with Mac OS X (version 10.6.8) hooked up to a Scientific Atlantic cable modem, with RCN as the ISP.
Recently, RCN had some network issues, and so I had to power down and reset my modem. The modem is working fine now -- no problems at all when the Mac is connected direclty to the modem.
The router's network is OK in that I can connect the Mac wirelessly to the network, but I can't connect to the internet through the router (through neither the wireless or wired connection).
I have downloaded the latest firmware update for the router, following the Linksys site instructions.
I did call Linksys tech support on the advice of RCN, and they said that the router does appear to be working (power, WLAN, and Internet lights are on), but they would be charging me nearly the cost of a new router to fix the problem.
The Windows netowrk Diagnostics tells me the problem is; "Local area connection doesn't have a valid IP Configuration"
However if i connect my modem directly to my PC it works just fine, the problem comes when i try and use my router(WRT54GS) that everything seems to stop working. My internet was working just fine with morning with my router. Now it doesn't want to work and nothing else in my house can connect to the internet.
I borrowed a netbook from a friend to take on vacation . It is a Dell Inspiron Mini 1011 running XP SP3 My router is a WRT54GS. I can connect to the router with my Vista laptop with no problems. I can connect to the router with a cat cable using the netbook. The netbook sees a strong signal from my router all the time, but will not connect. Occasionally it will connect for a moment, but then disconnects.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using a Linksys WRT54GSV4 router since November 2005, and have rarely had any problems with it. Now today after the power went out, devices cannot connect to the internet. My PC connected directly to the cable modem results in internet connectivity. My PC connected to the router allows router access through 192.168.1.1.My PC connected to the router can NOT access the internet or otherwise get out to the modem.WiFi devices in the house cannot connect to the internet, but can still access the router through 192.168.1.1.Swapping cables results in the same behavior, so the PC can connect to the modem with either cable, and the computer can connect to the router with either cable.

At times I can get to the access point, but can't get to the internet. But for the most part I cannot connect to the router at all.

I have a wrt54gs linsys router with speedbooster. I bought my son a tablet for xmas. I cannot connect the tablet to the network. It finds my network, searches for an IP address, and then disconnects. It will connect for about 2 seconds, and then shows disconnected. My PC's, and WII work fine, although getting the WII ad netflix to reconnect after a power outage is like rocket science requiring field support every time. My tablet wont stay connected, and the book tells me that the router must accept 802.11b/g, and that if it has 802.11n, then it needs to be reconfigured to accept 802.11b/g.

The last instruction on the Easylink advisor tells me to look for something marked "local" I don't find that word on the screen.
I checked the, do not broadcast SSID in my linksys, now i cant log into the router it is a linksys WRT54GS

View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to connect a WRT54GS to a Netgear FVS318 router to proivde wireless access to my network. My current setup has my DSL modem connected to the FVS318 to provide my network computer with wired internet access. Can I simply connect the WRT54GS to the FVS318 using the LAN port? I've read other threads that mentioned changing the WRT ip address to 192.168.0.150 and disabling DHCP. i've don'e both, but I still don't get wireless access. My wireless devices can connect, but they don't have internet access. I have some questions below:
1. In the WRT setup, what do I use for the Internet connection type? Since my Netgear has that information already, do I need to put anything here?
2. In Setup -> Advanced Routing, do I neet to change the operating mode to Router?
3. Any other configuration changes that I need to do?
I currently have an E1000 connected to my cable modem in my living room. It provides wireless access to my whole household.
I have a set of computers I want to have set up as a lab on their own router and have a WRT54GS available for me to modify.
The WRT is in the dining room (office) and the cable modem/E1000 are about 45 feet away.
I want to set up the wireless environment on the E1000 as 192.168.1.1-24 and the wired network as 192.168.2.1-24 with the wired network being able to wirelessly connect to the wired so all the machines in the house can see my server and other machines.
My WRT54GS worked perfectly till 3days .. everything works perfectly it just that i cannot get connection to itunes store neither over wifi or on my pc .. when i disconnected my router and connect my pc directly to the modem .

It’s XP - Pro machine. and to allow a maximum of two laptops be WiFi connected. The second network is built around the Linksys router (wich integrates no modem, simply a router). The WRT54GS router (rev 6) whose firmware is original Linksys up to date.I am setting the two Wi-Fi (Livebox 6 Cnl) and Cnl 4 on WRT54GS and different keys (this is manageable without difficulty). It has its server DHCP and Wi-Fi to connect their machine. What about the name of this second network group ? Currently “WORKGROUP” as well.I am setting a range different on the router WRT54GS (192.168.2.xxx) and enabled the DHCP.This "educational" network works perfectly when alone and separated from the "home" network and doesn’t get connected to Internet…I want to connect this router Linksys WRT54GS rev6 cascading through the Livebox-2. Share Internet via the Livebox-2 access. What about functionality? What is the connection to setup ?Should it be simple physical connection with a cable between the yellow ethernet port "2" of the Liveboxbox and the "Internet" connector of the Linksys router? Is this a good track to explore? I have searched extensively on the Internet but found proposals who are very old and refer to old Livebox... I did test and is not satisfactory...

I've recently been gifted with a WRT54GS v.2 which came from a family member who upgraded their wireless router and therefore passed this one along to me. It was working perfectly for them, but not me.
I've tried using the setup CD and doing a manual setup, but no internet connection is detected. I must confess to being a total wireless router newbie, this is my first one, so I am stumped as what to do next. I've looked at the FAQ's and through the forum as well, but I just don't know what might apply to my situation and as I am not very well versed in the terminology, I tend to get lost.
I have a xbox 360 that I want to connect to xbox live with, using my home network. Every time I try to connect to xbox live the only part that fails is the connecting to xbox live part. This is how my network is set up. I have Cox Cable as my ISP, a Linksys WCG200 gateway(v2), and WRT54GS(v7). The cable wire is connected to the WCG200 gateway, then an Ethernet cable connects the gateway to the WRT54GS router, and finally an Ethernet cable connects the router to my xbox 360. I have contacted Cox, Linksys, and Microsoft about the situation and they all say the problem is the version of the router. Someone told me that I may just need to change the firmware, but I don't know how to do that.

I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My problem is I can't seem to get connectivity on the user end of the router. I can't ping the bridge from an end computer...
DHCP is disabled in the router, but even when manually configuring the IP address on an end computer and using the bridge as a default gateway I can't ping out.
Am I completely misunderstanding the purpose of a NIC bridge?
I have a Linksys WRT54GS router. It has been performing fine for many years. We have 2 PCs and 2 MacBooks that get on the wifi network with no problem. However, several months ago, a friend could not get his iPad online. Last week, a guest with a PC couldn't get online. I just bought an iPhone and it can't get online either. In all 3 cases, the devices found the network but when we typed the correct password the devices were unable to connect. The 4 laptops connect with no problem.
how to get my new iPhone and other new devices to connect?

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor several years I was connected to the internet via a USB modem (with TalkTalk being my ISP), however, after purchasing a laptop with Wi-Fi for my partner's daughter, decided it was time to get a router so we could all use the internet.I purchased a Netgear N150 Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router, model DGN1000, connected (via ethernet as the desktop has no wireless receiver) and installed it as per instructions supplied. However since that point I have been unable to connect to the internet on my desktop through the router. Wireless devices (several laptops, iPhones and games consoles) have no issues whatsoever in connecting and using the internet.
At first the desktop kept saying that I had "limited or no connectivity" which I eventually sorted out, there was some kind of issue with my IP address, but I can't remember what now. Now I when I try to load any website, Internet explorer tells me it couldn't load the page due to .... Google Chrome is more specific and tells me that the DNS lookup failed. I have tried updating the ethernet controller driver, using the 'flushdns' command, and after discovering many other people on TalkTalk tech forums having similar DNS issues, tried using DNS addresses that were suggested by both their support staff and members of the public (i.e. Google's DNS 8.8.8.8), and still nothing. If I reconnect my USB modem I can connect to the internet no problem, but I'd prefer to only have one modem on the go.I am running a HP Pavilion with Win XP (SP2), and all the laptops that have connected wirelessly (including the one I'm using now) are running Vista.
When I attempt to connect my new laptop to it and enter the security key/password, it does not accept it.I was able to connect the computer I had before to the router. How can I connect my new computer?

We are working with a DSL modem residential line without phone line using a coaxial cable, and Ethernet cable from modem into the PC. connecting this D-link router to my modem and WiFi, and for me to use the WPA2 security?
2.) I have an iPhone 4 with Verizon. If I want to use my iPhone to get WiFi from the router, and turn off the Internet on my phone, and use WiFi only on my phone, how would this work?
Last night Comcast reset our modem (from afar) so we could get a free movie to work. After that, we got the movie but my wireless internet now does not work. I can connect when attached to the cable modem but when I plug into the router I don't have access to internet. The router is plugged in and all lights are working (it acts normally otherwise). Also, our landline phone (which is in the bundle of the cable connection) does not work either.Comcast is willing to look at the phone but refuses to get involved in the wireless thing. What the heck is wrong?
