Aug 23, 2011My Motorola SBG901 Modem/Router combo has stopped connecting to the internet. I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.

Sep 12, 2011For several years I was connected to the internet via a USB modem (with TalkTalk being my ISP), however, after purchasing a laptop with Wi-Fi for my partner's daughter, decided it was time to get a router so we could all use the internet.I purchased a Netgear N150 Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router, model DGN1000, connected (via ethernet as the desktop has no wireless receiver) and installed it as per instructions supplied.However since that point I have been unable to connect to the internet on my desktop through the router. Wireless devices (several laptops, iPhones and games consoles) have no issues whatsoever in connecting and using the internet.
At first the desktop kept saying that I had "limited or no connectivity" which I eventually sorted out, there was some kind of issue with my IP address, but I can't remember what now. Now I when I try to load any website, Internet explorer tells me it couldn't load the page due to .... Google Chrome is more specific and tells me that the DNS lookup failed. I have tried updating the ethernet controller driver, using the 'flushdns' command, and after discovering many other people on TalkTalk tech forums having similar DNS issues, tried using DNS addresses that were suggested by both their support staff and members of the public (i.e. Google's DNS 8.8.8.8), and still nothing. If I reconnect my USB modem I can connect to the internet no problem, but I'd prefer to only have one modem on the go.I am running a HP Pavilion with Win XP (SP2), and all the laptops that have connected wirelessly (including the one I'm using now) are running Vista.

May 20, 2012Last night Comcast reset our modem (from afar) so we could get a free movie to work. After that, we got the movie but my wireless internet now does not work. I can connect when attached to the cable modem but when I plug into the router I don't have access to internet.The router is plugged in and all lights are working (it acts normally otherwise). Also, our landline phone (which is in the bundle of the cable connection) does not work either.Comcast is willing to look at the phone but refuses to get involved in the wireless thing.What the heck is wrong?

May 3, 2012I have a question regarding the network setup. I have 3 pieces of network hardware and a fast dsl connection. The hardware is:
- DSL Modem from my provider with static IP connection (CISCO - don't know the symbol)
- DSL Router (edimax ar-7084a)
- Switch (Hewlett-Packard JD871A)
Now the task is to create a LAN network so all my computers can talk together and have a internet connection shared between them.When I connect Modem to Router and then 4 CPUs to router, it is working fine. The problem is that the router has only 4 ports and that it is 100Mbit slow. I would like to use the HP switch for the LAN setup (1Gbit) and then connect the switch to router and router to modem. But it doesn't work I cannot establish internet connection this way. I'm setting all the settings in my router but it doesn't work as it was in simple setup modem->router->cpu. when I add switch to this, the setup is going berserk.Problem is that I would like to create a LAN only between computers using switch. I have other computers that I want to conect to the router directly and don't see the computers using switch.

I'm not sure how the Linksys was set up (I'll get that information soon), but the internet worked for her without her having to connect her laptop to the router. When I tried to use the wifi, I was never able to connect properly. It would say that I was connected to the router, but that I wasn't able to use the internet. Then I tried to connect the laptop to the Linksys router with a ethernet cable and the internet worked. Also, after I unplug the ethernet I am able to use the internet, but the connection goes out every so often. When I connect the router to my computer via ethernet cable, the light on the ethernet port of the router comes on (an orange LED light), but when I connect my cable modem (or computer) to the the router through the WAN ethernet port, the WAN port's LED does not come on at all and I keep getting an error message on my browser saying that I need to make sure the ethernet cable is connected.
I've tried three different ethernet cables, including the one that came with the router, with no luck (WAN LED lights never come on, so I assume that this means that there is no activity at all). I've also tried cloning the MAC address, restoring to factory default, updating the routers firmware, and holding the reset button on the modem for 15 seconds, among other things.
Also, something that might be worth noting: While one end is connected to my modem, if I plug the ethernet cord into one of the 4 ethernet ports on the router, the green LED instantly turns on but, as I said before, there's no activity when plugged into the WAN port. My modem is an Arris TM052G (DOCSIS 2.0) provided by my ISP, Time Warner Cable.

I work at the Staples Easy Tech center and the resident tech there told me to do an IP flush or some such thing, but my google fuu is weak and this "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" refuse to do anything without a connection to the network.I proceeded to hardwire my laptop and even then it says no internet connection and doesn't recognize the network. i think it has something to do with the i p address, its showing 0.0.0.0 when set on automatic, i then checked on the belkin setep page, and it showed the dchp was enabled? so i then got the information of the website and entered it manually but it still couldnt connect, i called both xbox and belkin and i know no more than i did before...xbox tried telling me after hours of questions and tests that it was my router, it musnt give out the 2.4gghtz needed, so i then called belkin, they also did tests and asked me questions and then told me that his computer screen is telling him the router can not connect to that xbox.
