I try to change the AP mode of my LWAPP 1242 from local to bridge mode. But when the AP reboots it never associates with the controller, i have to reset it manually.I have the same issue with a LWAPP 1142.I tried to modify the AP mode configuration through the controller CLI but it's the same behaviour, AP never associates.Is there any particular parameter or configuration to perform before changing AP mode?
View 3 RepliesWhat kind of hardware are people using for mobile bridges? I have not had good luck with Cisco 1242's in bridge mode with mobile-client enabled. The only reason we're using the Cisco access point over standard industrial bridges is because we need to manually forward the mac addresses of the devices behind the bridge. These are being installed on robotic forklifts. They have a generic ethernet scrolling marquee installed that does not maintain any active connections and drops from the fowarding table in the bridge if not staticly configured. I'm looking for an alternative because the roaming is not nearly as smooth as it should be.

clients ---> 819 ---->AP (WGB) ------ lwapp ----- AP ---> LAN ---> servers.
since the clients are on the same subnet as the the VLAN on the lwapp, everything works great.When we add a new L3 VLAN on the 819 router, and we try to ping the clients from the servers, the packets can reach the clients but never received by the servers back. it seems like the bridge is dropping the packets when they go back from the client to the servers.when we use a GRE tunnel from the 819 to the LAN, everything works great.
Is it possible to make a bridge using a 1242 and a 1310? I have been able to get them to associate together and it appears it will function as a bridge. I have the 12(4) 253 JA IOS for both devices. I would like to use the g antenna on the 1242 for the bridge and the a antenna for wireless clients. The configuration on the web management appears to support bridge root and non root for both devices.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Eight AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9's accross our site that have 2 SSID's and 2 VLAN's that work well, I want to link one of the AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9 to another one using 5ghz patch antennas across a 50 metre gap, but I am puzzled on how to do this, as to create a root bridge and a non route bridge link I need to put the infrastucture SSID on and this must be on VLAN1 but I want the traffic from both VLANs to pass over this link. I just want to ensure the config will work as I need to go into a cherry picker to get to the non-root-bridge.
View 11 Replies View RelatedAt intermittent times, we will have a single device start to "hide" behind a 1242 bridge.In the past, my team would reload or reboot the bridge, and everything would come back up.But the 90 seconds of lost data were causing problems.
I found the the WB was always available.So I would ping the hidden device from the WB, and it would ping.Next, I showed the ARP table, and got the MAC address of the hidden device.Then, I would start a ping from my PC, and leave it running. Constant "Destination Unreachables" from the router.Next, I showed the bridging table for F0, and sometimes the device would be there, sometimes not. I would add a forwarding bridging entry manualy, and exit conf.
Showing the briding table would show the device, with a "P"ermanent age, but still no pinging.Finally, I would remove the forwarding briding entry, and pings would start within a couple of seconds.During these periods, outbound UDP packets will continue to be forwarded from the PC.So, my managers want to convert everything to UDP, which is a potential disaster in my opinion. I was trying to upgrade the IOS image of the AP and I did a wrong manip.
I downloaded the IOS image (ap801-rcvk9w8-tar.124-10b.JA3.tar) from my TFTP server to the flash of the AP. Everything went find so far. But than I did an archive archive download-sw /overwrite ap801-rcvk9w8-tar.124-10b.JA3.tar and my AP reboot in LWAPP mode.
I should have done: archive download-sw /overwrite tftp://10.0.0.1/ ap801-rcvk9w8-tar.124-10b.JA3.tar instead!
Now I don't how to go back to autonomous mode. archive commando is not available anymore in LWAPP mode.

Step 3 Set the timeout value on the TFTP server to 30 seconds. Step 4 On the PC where the TFTP server is located, perform these steps.

I have just installed 3 access points along with 6 repeater access points all running V12.4. They are all AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9 using the 2.4GHz radio.
Prior to installation I bench tested that the repeaters would associate with the access points and if one of the access points was turned off the repeaters would automatically roam to another access point. I did not have all 9 devices powered up at the same time, but did have 2 repeaters and 2 access points powered up to simulate association and roaming.
During installation as access points and repeaters were powered up everything behaved as expected (repeaters were associating to access points etc.) however during installation once everything was installed the 3 access points were all powered down for half an hour or so and once powered back on the repeaters did not automatically re-associate until they were re-booted.
I have now configured the repaters with parent MAC addresses to reflect the above current assocaition pattern but not yet powered off the access points to test if this forces re-association as this is now a live operational site!!
Is it normal to have to re-boot the repeaters if ALL 3 access points are powered down at the same time? i.e. If only one access point is powered down will the repeaters automaically roam to another access point o.k.?

The AP are configured in flex mode. The issue that we are facing is all the laptops and IPADs other then Apple IPAD are working but the Apple IPAD are not working through AES WPA2.It gives him a dismiss message and at time it gets connected but take a long time to get connected. Incase when the IPAD gets connected the following happens.
While connecting to the SSID it will ask for the preshared keyAfetr entering the preshared key it takes time to acquire an IP addressAfter the IP address is assigned it gives a dismiss message. If we do not click on the dismiss message then it will take anothere 30 seconds or so and get connected.
Client has a building that is located 300Ft apart and would like to provide IP communications for 3-4 IP hadsets back to an IP PBX. They do not want to dig up the parking lot so we proposed using a wireless bridge. I noticed that Cisco discontinue the 1300 and 1400 Wireless Bridge. Can I use a 1262 with external antenna in Workgroup Bridge mode to perform this functions? I will put a Layer 3 switch on both ends to route traffic (3560C-8). Should I use the Yagi antenna's for outdoor use?

Now the AP connects one time to the WLC 5508 and started a download. After that, the AP never came back. Like we saw on the other installed 1552 RAP's, they all where in local mode.We configured all AP's to bridge mode, but the MAP could not join anymore.Is there a CLI command to change the mode on the AP itself?From the WLC it's not a problem, but for the AP CLI I cannot find sth.

I haven't been very impressed with them - I have to reboot them at least once a week and figure it's a roaming issue. Since they are a residential product they probably weren't designed to do a lot of roaming.I started playing around with WGB and setup an 1142 AP and got it to work. Unfortunately, the only place I can put the AP is inside the cart and the metal top seems to be interfering with the wireless signal.

The 1041N has the same IOS as the 1141/1241 and it has the settings are there, but I read somewhere on the cisco site that workgroup bridge is only supported on 1100 and 1200 series, is this correct or old information?
Scenario is: I have an existing stand alone 1041N AP, on the other side of the building I have a network LAN switch with a couple of PCs, instead of running cables I would like to add an AP as a bridge to link that switch and PCs to the network that the AP is plugged in to. I believe this is called Workgroup Bridge Mode. In fact there already is a cheap non-cisco wireless device doing this but it is unreliable.
I just placed an order for Two 1041N APs, do I need to change the order to Two 1141N instead?
Also even if the 1041N does not support workgroup bridge mode, can it still act as the ROOT Bridge and have 2 1141N APs configured in bridge mode connected to the 1041N?
I have a WLC2504 and 2 LAP1261N (converted from autonomous to lightweight) with release 7.0.116.0 and I want to create a point-to-point mesh link between the 2 APs. When trying to change the APs mode from local to bridge I receive the message "This AP does not support bridge mode" even if the release notes say that mesh is supported on AP1261N. I tried to change the mode from gui and also from CLI.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am configuring a mobile van that is used for a mobile health clinic to drive to several locations and when pulling into an allocated parking spot the van will connect via wireless automatically. I am using autonomous 1252 AP's and am considering either briding or workgroup bridging.
The issue I am encountering is that the AP inside a van is a router that has to do DHCP across the wireless and because the ethernet interface between router and AP in the van never goes down the router does not know to re-DHCP. I remember from way back there was an IOS command to track a serial interface and drop the ethernet if the serial link goes down. Is there an equivalent command for AP's to drop the ethernet interface if the radio interfaces go down?
I'm using the 2106 in one environment with ROOT AP and MESH AP and when i put these in the Bridge mode, when one client connects to them it isn't working well, sometimes i can reach the client and sometimes not.
I tried it with an Access Point that connect with the ROOT AP or MESH AP and will do an ethernet bridging with another wired client (camera), what happens is very strange because sometimes i can reach the bridge client and sometimes i can reach the Access Point that is doing the bridge. I can't access the two clients at the same time. In this situation i lose the images from camera when i have access to the Access Point and when i get the images from camera i lost access with the Access Point.
When i put the ROOT AP in the H-REAP mode Local Switching with AP 1142 or AP1552, the clients connects well and the bridge mode in the another access point works without problem, when i put the H-REAP in Central Switching i have the same problem.
I'm using in the 2106 WLC the version 7.0.240.0.

Worked perfect for over 3 months.Upgraded firmware due to lockups starting to happen, now cant get the bridge / repeater to work longer than 15 min.After MANY support calls, new devices sent (version 2's) still no luck.
Talked to Marcelo at1 866 606 1866 and he stated that the Bridge / Repeater mode will not be supported farther than 50 Feet.(seems like a cop out to me) He didn't seem to have an answer as to why it worked for 3 Months other than interference Of which I have ran spectrum analyzers and see no Interference. **** even 10 feet away I cant get the units to work longer than 15 min.So I definitely think the 50 foot thing is a BS answer.
Also they have told me that External Antennas are not supported with these devices.Again even though People 500 feet away connect just perfect (without a bridge / repeater mode) with 50% coverage!
so here I am (spent 600 bucks) on bricks.. and nobody will support the device and I cant seem to get my money back.I have 8 customers with these devices, I am not going to use Cisco any longer. However will continue to fight this,as we all seem to have the same BS issues.

I have been using WAP4401N for almost a year in our office and I’m very happy of this device, never had any problem. So I bought 3 new ones for our customer which supposed to work in configuration below:
Network ----- AP1 –Bridge mode ----- AP2 – Bridge mode -----AP3 – Access Point mode.
Everything was working perfectly fine to the moment than bridge was broken. I can get access to all AP (obviously when connected to proper part of network) however not able to ping from AP2 -> AP1 or opposite so basically no link between AP1 and AP2. After reboot everything is working fine to next time (happens twice in two days). When I go to System Performance can see Connection is enabled but doesn’t work.
I upgraded firmware to latest version (2.0.5.3) but haven’t worked. When I’ve done some research found many users having similar problem with this device and basically they recommend to don’t buy. Unfortunately this is not an option for me as I’ve already purchased them.
