Cisco Wireless :: 1242 - Max Number Of Voice Clients On AP

May 30, 2012

I have a high school wireless environment that was installed approximately 5 years ago with 1242AG APs. The install was done based on 2.4GHz coverage everywhere, not for 5GHz or for good density. The high school uses wireless cisco 7921G phones for all the staff and teachers. The issue we're running into is over the last couple years more and more students are bringing in iPhones and android phones that can connect to the public wireless ssid. And with the increase of these wireless devices in the classroom, we've been experiencing more and more call dropped on the wireless phones. I have collected information on number of clients on specific APs that are in the area of most of the dropped calls. At times some of these APs have a total of 40 clients associated to them, over half of which are on the public ssid. I have thought about putting all the phones on to the 5GHz radios, but the implementation of the wireless was only for 2.4GHz coverage, so we have coverage gaps on the 5GHz network. We're thinking about adding more APs but the budget isn't available yet for that, so we're looking at what we can do to make this better for the time being.

Main questions are:

Is there a best practices number of max clients per AP in a wireless voice network?

Are there any other options for preventing dropped calls on the wireless?

I should mention I have already looked over the VoWLAN Troubleshooting Checklist at the link below and made the necessary changes to assure we are following the items on the checklist as close as possible.URL

Cisco Wireless :: 1242 And 1310 Bridge?

Apr 18, 2011

Is it possible to make a bridge using a 1242 and a 1310? I have been able to get them to associate together and it appears it will function as a bridge. I have the 12(4) 253 JA IOS for both devices. I would like to use the g antenna on the 1242 for the bridge and the a antenna for wireless clients. The configuration on the web management appears to support bridge root and non root for both devices.

I just want to ensure the config will work as I need to go into a cherry picker to get to the non-root-bridge.

Cisco Wireless :: Devices Hiding Behind A 1242 Bridge

Jun 10, 2012

At intermittent times, we will have a single device start to "hide" behind a 1242 bridge.In the past, my team would reload or reboot the bridge, and everything would come back up.But the 90 seconds of lost data were causing problems.

I found the the WB was always available.So I would ping the hidden device from the WB, and it would ping.Next, I showed the ARP table, and got the MAC address of the hidden device.Then, I would start a ping from my PC, and leave it running.  Constant "Destination Unreachables" from the router.Next, I showed the bridging table for F0, and sometimes the device would be there, sometimes not. I would add a forwarding bridging entry manualy, and exit conf.

Showing the briding table would show the device, with a "P"ermanent age, but still no pinging.Finally, I would remove the forwarding briding entry, and pings would start within a couple of seconds.During these periods, outbound UDP packets will continue to be forwarded from the PC.So, my managers want to convert everything to UDP, which is a potential disaster in my opinion. Cisco Wireless :: Using 1262 AP In Workgroup Bridge Mode?

Nov 18, 2012

Client has a building that is located 300Ft apart and would like to provide IP communications for 3-4 IP hadsets back to an IP PBX.   They do not want to dig up the parking lot so we proposed using a wireless bridge.   I noticed that Cisco discontinue the 1300 and 1400 Wireless Bridge.   Can I use a 1262 with external antenna in Workgroup Bridge mode to perform this functions?   I will put a Layer 3 switch on both ends to route traffic (3560C-8).   Should I use the Yagi antenna's for outdoor use?

Cisco Wireless :: WorkGroup Bridge / Which Mode To Use - WET610N

Feb 21, 2012

We have some rolling carts used for telemedicine and are currently using Linksys WET610N wireless bridges. I haven't been very impressed with them - I have to reboot them at least once a week and figure it's a roaming issue. Since they are a residential product they probably weren't designed to do a lot of roaming.I started playing around with WGB and setup an 1142 AP and got it to work. Unfortunately, the only place I can put the AP is inside the cart and the metal top seems to be interfering with the wireless signal.

WLAN0UPSTRM  Disconnected  1  myssid
WLAN0DWSTRM  Up  1  myssid

It is the Infrastructure Client Interface setting that fails, i've tried both None and WPA pesronal Security setting with same result: Disconnected

Cisco Wireless :: 1242 / How To Force Clients DHCP Renew On Mobility Event

Aug 24, 2011

I have a (single) client (it is a cisco IOS router) behind a wireless workgroup bridge (cisco1242).The client's IP address is obtained via DHCP from the wired network.Now, when roaming occurs, the Client will never have knowledge about this event,and hence will not renew its IP address until lease expiers. This is not a problem of course when Layer 2 roam occurs, but with Layer 3
roam it will interrupt the traffic.

The cisco's IP Mobile implementation does have this issue addressed in DCCoA scenario: the WGB is configured to send an SNMP trap on its dotradio state change;the cisco mobile router is configured with snmp-server manager to process this trap and start DHCP renew on the Down/Up event. Unfortunately, this works in Mobile IP scenario only because I cannot make it work without the mobile router registered with a home agent.

how to force DHCP renew on a client (cisco IOS router) in such a situation - event scripting, SLA,  or ...?

Cisco Wireless :: 1242 - Bridge Mode With Mobile-client Enabled

Sep 5, 2011

What kind of hardware are people using for mobile bridges? I have not had good luck with Cisco 1242's in bridge mode with mobile-client enabled. The only reason we're using the Cisco access point over standard industrial bridges is because we need to manually forward the mac addresses of the devices behind the bridge. These are being installed on robotic forklifts. They have a generic ethernet scrolling marquee installed that does not maintain any active connections and drops from the fowarding table in the bridge if not staticly configured. I'm looking for an alternative because the roaming is not nearly as smooth as it should be.

Cisco Wireless :: 1262N AP Disables Radios When Switched To Workgroup Bridge Mode

Feb 21, 2013

Cisco Wireless :: AP1142 Autonomous Bridge With Clients?

Jan 30, 2013

I have 2 1142 autonomous APs that I'm trying to set up for bridging.  I have a building just across the street and these would work wonderfully to extend the LAN to that building for the few users that will be located there.  The distance is only 200'.  That's not my issue right now as I'm still in the lab trying to get these things to talk.  I've been through the Cisco documentation on this and just can't seem to get them to work.  Here are the requirements:

1.  I'll have 2 or 3 vlans that will be used by clients

2.  I'll have 1 VLAN for network management

3.  I'm not using BSSIDs

4.  Is it possible to utilize the 5ghz radio for bridging and still have your 2.4ghz clients be able to connect or am I required to set up bridging on both bands?

5.  There's also this option for "workgroup bridging".  Am I getting confused on this.  I've read through it.  It doesn't look like the way I need to do things.

I'm attaching the root side configuration.  Version is 124-25d.JA2. The non root side is version 124-21a.JA1.

On the non root side, I get error "dot11-4-no_valid_infra_ssid:  No infrastructure SSID configured.  Dot11Radio1 not started.

Show ip int br shows reset for the dot11radio1.

Failure Cause:Clear Maximum Client Limit Reached in  WLAN..What does it exactly mean? I have no limit per WLAN (it is set to 0), but in WLC 7.4 i must put some limit for numbers of clients per AP and the max is 200. Unable To Setup Wireless Bridge?

Jul 23, 2012

I've already done plenty of web search and gone through various forums. That's how I've gained knowledge of setting up wireless bridge. But for some unknown reasons I haven't been able to successfully pull it off. Let me explain.I have an ISP provided modem+wifi device. Its called PTCL Modem. I normally connect my laptop and other devices through its wifi. I need to extend the signals around my workplace. So I have bought a TP-Link wifi router (TL-WR740N). Both these devices support wireless bridging according to their admin settings. I'll go pic-by-pic to explain what steps I performed.Pic1: PTCL Modem wireless bridging options. It shows two options for AP Mode: Access Point and Wireless Bridge. And it shows three options for Bridge Restrict.

Pic2: TP-Link router home page Pic2a: I first change the TP-Link's IP Address, because the PTCL Modem's wireless is also using the same IP address (192.168.1.1) so the current address will conflict with it. I change the router's IP address to 192.168.2.1. It goes for a restart.Pic3: Next I turn off the DHCP Server, as suggested by various blogs and forums. Router goes for another reboot after saving this setting.Pic4: Now I go to Wireless Settings page and set Enable WDS on. It shows me bridging options.Pic5.

I click the Survey button and it shows me a list of wireless devices in its range along with their BSSID and Channel number. I select my PTCL Modem access point which is on Channel 6. My PTCL Modem's wireless is set to WPA2-PSK security with the password "********". I also set the Channel on my TP-Link router from Auto to 6, to come in line with PTCL Modem's wireless. Clicking Save makes router goes for another reboot.

Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Setup WRT320N As Bridge

Aug 16, 2011

I want to setup the following:

Internet through DSL-Thompson TG 789 VN router ---> several yards --> Linksys WRT320N --> wired computer netwerk                                           |             |with   printer

---> Wireless Netwerk -->   laptops / phones       <---     (WAN depending on strongest signal)
|
---> several servers

The Thompson does the DHCP and routing. It is the gateway through the internet, IP 192.168.2.254 (mask 255.255.255.0).I can't replace the thompson since it is delivered by my provider. SSID = BertB I want to achieve that all the compuers / laptops / phone and printer are in one network and can communicate with each other So the only possibility, as far as I can see, is to set up the Linksys as a bridge.

I have to do the following at the Linksys but have some questions as mentioned below:

SSID = BertB (the same)
channel = different from the channel used by Thompson
DHCP = off
IP = fixed (192.168.2.253)
gateway = 192.168.2.254

[code]....

how the thompson and the Linksys will build a connection with each other, or will this happen automatically through the above setup?Do I have to put the mac address of the thompson in the Linksys and/or vice versa?
