Cisco Wireless :: WLC 2500 Client Limit?

Apr 18, 2012

Im making a design for a customer that will have around 200 wireless users.

We were thinking in the WLC 2500, because the number of APs will be around 30.

But the problem is that from time to time, the client organizes events, and in these events the number of wireless clients will be around 600.

In the WLC2500 specs te maximun numbers of users is 500, but i want to know if this is just a recomendation, of if the WLC will drop the connection attemp # 501.

Does the WSSI only use it's own internal antenna or is there any option to use external?

D-Link DIR-655 :: Download Speed Fine But Upload Speed Is Way Slow?

Mar 17, 2011

I live in the tampa bay area, I have bright house (BHN) as my service provider, which provides a Road Runner Lightning (40/5) package.  I previously used BHN's top tier (20/2) back in July (and prior) with no problems.

After converting to Lightning in August of this year (2010).  Of course, BHN (and every other provider) wants to force a modem/router down your throat, so I had them bridge it (in short, turn it into a dummy modem with no routing). I had an SMC branded modem gateway at the time.  I work from home 2 days a week (so I can spend more time with my kids during morning, lunch, right after work) and this requires me to use QoS to ensure my VOIP work calls don't get dropped, if the family is watching youtube videos or watching netflex.

My network was as follows SMC Modem >WAN IP>>WAN Port>>D-link DIR-655>>Switch Ports>PC1, PC2, PC3

Everything seemed fine (from a usability stand point) till about 2 weeks ago when my upload speed seemed to grind to halt.  Normally I was able to upload about 200-300K per second, and I noticed this dropped to about 45K per second during a drop box upload.   First thing I did was power cycle both my modem and router (in the proper/usual order).  After they both come up, I start using speed test to find out what my upload speeds were.  I was getting about 39Mbps down, but only .56Mbps up still.  I factory reset my router.... test, similar speeds.  Power cycle all computers (just in case), and then modem/router.  Tested, similar speeds.   Updated the firmware to the latest. Same issue

Called BHN customer service, they factor reset it, but it wasn't in bridge mode.  If I by passed the 655, in factory mode (non bridge mode) upload speeds returned to better than expected states.  If I bridged the cable modem, upload speeds seemed to crash.

Had BHN replace the modem, seemed fixed for a day, then issue came back.  Had them come back out and replace it again, this time with a Motorolla Surfboard modem... same issue.  Fine during factory reset, however after they bridge the modem, upload speeds were fine.  Told BHN I would take it from there.. Connected up the DIR-655, and upload speeds crashed again. (.6Mbps).  Called D-Link Support, and the Chinese English speaking rep seemed to not be listening to me and tried to have me adjust my MTU as well as Wireless settings.  Long story short... the rep was a level 0 id10t and I hope D-link will consider hiring better employees/contractors.  So I was all about to give up and replace it with a DD-WRT capable router (which it takes me a lot to want to swap hardware), when I discovered the wan shaping was on.  Which I thought to myself... nah... QoS has never messed up before... why would it be the cause.  Turned off wan shapping... and voila.  Issue seemed to be insta-resolved.

Unsatisfied with that... I decided to dig a lil deeper. I turned on Wan shaping again, but decided to set the settings manually instead of auto detect.

Here are the settings I used... (Advanced Tab>QoS)
Enable Traffic Shaping - Checked
Automatic Uplink Speed - Unchecked
Manual Uplink Speed - 5000
Connection Type: Cable or Other Broadand Network

Enable QoS Engine - Checked Automatic Classification - unchecked (this checked seemed to affect my upload speed by about 5-10% during testing) Dynamic Fragmentation - unchecked (this checked seemed to be the worse enemy for upload speed)

While I know I'm not any network guru (still have to use a subnet calculator for subnetting), I think I did a pretty good job drilling down the issue (once I got passed my service provider replacing modems).

Anyways, I've had overall good luck with D-Link products, even have a 5 port 10/100 switch (all metal) from 1998 that works great.  Hopefully, D-Link will just either put more documentation on the web, or hire better employees.

D-Link DIR-601 :: Way To Enhance Speed On Wireless?

Jul 14, 2011

I recently picked up this router on clearance to replace a Linksys WRT54GS in the hopes that I would get better speeds for streaming multi-media (NETFLIX).  I live in a single story home with a room over the garage (this is where my cable modem and Dlink router are located).  To increase signal strength throughout my house I had previously purchased an EnGenius ERB9250 range extender (which supports 802.11N 300mbs), now all my wireless devices show full bars anywhere in the house.  Unfortunately when I test my connection to the wireless network I seem to only be registering about 5 - 8 mbs.  This really isn't any better than I was getting with my older Linksys, but I thought the Dlink could do up to 150mbs.  I have verified that both my range extender and the router are configured correctly, and have tried disabling the QoS (read somewhere that it might drop signals).  So far nothing I do seems to increase performance.  Is this normal for this router?  Am I being unrealistic in trying to get better performance?  Is there anything special I need to do to increase performance?  I downloaded several wireless sniffers and have set my router to wireless channel 6 as this is the least used by my neighbors (actually shows as 6+2).

Cisco Wireless :: 2600 AP Throughput With Client Link 2.0

Nov 9, 2012

What is the maximum throughput of a 2600 AP when using CLient Link 2.0.  I see that the datasheet states that it is 450mbps, however,  from my understanding of transmit beamforming (client link 2.0), when traffic is "beamformed" to a client it cannot use spatial multiplexing on the same antenna as well.  If this is the case, with the 2600 only having 3 transmit antennas,  does this mean that the max throughput to a client when using clientlink is 300mb ?

If not, how the AP transmit at 450mbps and beamforms at the same time.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Slow Wireless Download Speed

D-Link DIR-825 :: How To Maximize Wireless Transfer Speed On A Network

May 16, 2013

My Home/Small Business network now utilizes several D-Link products.  It is comprised of a DLink 205 cable modem (old but reliable and perfectly adequate for the speed I get from my ISP); 2 - DIR-825 Dual Band WiFi Routers (Primary - Rev B1; Secondary - Rev A1); a DLink 5-port Unmanaged Smart Switch (GO series); an HP Proliant N54L Microserver with 6 internal and 2 external HDD's (total of 19TB); 4-5 workstations (HP Laptops); 2 - Brother Laser Printers/Scanner/Copiers; a Toshiba Thrive Android Tablet; an iPad Tablet; Android Smartphones; iPhones; and a large screen HDTV.  The Modem, WiFi Routers, Switch, and Server are connected together with CAT6E ethernet cable.  The printers are USB 2.0 to the server.  The external HDD's are USB 3.0 to the Server.

When I measure transfer speeds of Large files (single 30GB iso movie files) between HDD's internal to the Server and USB 3.0 external <=> internal, I can achieve transfer rates of 140MB/sec - 150MB/sec.  This is the limitation of 7200rpm HDD's.   When I measure the transfer rate from the Server to a Work Station by CAT6E ethernet cable (25ft length) connected to the DLink 5-port gigabit switch, I measure transfer speeds of around 65MB/sec - 70MB/sec with a peak transfer rate of around 95MB/sec.  This is ok but not as fast as other people seem to get.  I would be hope to see rates in excess of 100MB/sec.   Theoretical maximum for 1GB being 125MB/sec but the specs on the ports say they should operate up to 2GB (250MB/sec).

Wireless transfer rates are where I really am having trouble.  Transferring the same 30GB iso movie file over wireless between two Work Stations or between a Work Station and the Server gives a maximum transfer speed of 7.2MB/sec and an average transfer speed of around 4.5MB/sec.   If I am streaming multiple streams and trying to transfer a iso file, the transfer speed drops down to as low as 350KB/sec.  This is too slow.

My network is setup to do Bare Metal Backups of the Work Stations.   This can entail transferring up to 100GB of mixed files to the back-up drives on the Server for each Work Station.   At 4.5MB/sec it takes just under 7 hours to back up the Work Station.   If multiple Work Stations are backed up, it takes longer.  Too Long to be realistic.

How to increase the transfer speeds on the wireless network?  I have seen other people post wireless transfer speeds for their networks in excess of 13MB/sec.   If I could get 7MB/sec or above when backing up all the Work Stations simultaneously. That would be doable.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Motorola SB6141 Link Speed LED On Cable Modem Never Glows Blue

Feb 26, 2013

when I connect my DIR-655 to the Motorola SB6141 cable modem I notice that the link speed LED on the cable modem never glows blue indicating a gigabit connection, it only glows amber indicating a lower negotiated speed.  I am using a Cat6 cable between the two devices and have also tried a Cat5e cable.

When I try and force the WAN port speed to 1000Mpbs in the router interface the cable modem link speed will not light at all with no connectivity. Only resetting to Auto WAN port speed restores functionality albeit at the lower negotiated speed setting.

I'm running the DIR-655 rev B1 at 2.03NA firmware level.

I did connect the modem directly to my PC that uses an Intel Gigabit ethernet card and still had the lower connection indication (Amber) so it seems that the modem might be faulty.

I purchased a WDR4300 yesterday and have set it up. The internet is running smoothly although the transfer speed is rather slow. When transferring from my computer to my Seagate GoFlex Home i get about 6 - 8 mbps with Wireless N. The router is set to only use Wireless-N and my laptop has the latest drivers. I have also tried other computers in the house and the speed is the same. The GoFlex Home is connected to the router via a LAN cable. Prior to updating i used a Linksys WRT54GL and managed speeds of about 3 or 4 mbps over its G only connection. As for transfers between 2 computes the rate is about 1 - 3 mbps

As for distance the Wireless router is only about 1.5 meters from the laptop (across the room) with nothing in between them to cause interference. I have also checked what channels my neighbors use (using inSSIDer) and picked 13 as there is only 1 other person nearby on that channel and they are quite far away.

Copying a ~100 Mb sized file to another computer on the other side takes more than 10 minutes or more, I don't know exactly, because I shut down the process after 10 min. I pinged the "slave" router with 200 packets, and I realized that every third, fourth and fifth packet has more than 500 ms time. The minimum is 4 ms, the longest was 566 ms.

Router A (Master)
Connects to the internet/ADSL
DHCP enabled

[Code].....

I bought the two router from the same dealer, at the same time. Both have the same firmware. I checked all the chanels, and 5 is the only free one, but the situation is the same on every chanel.

What can couse this very slow transfer speed?

I've setup my nano router in client mode and successfully connected it to my existing wireless network by manually setting it's IP address to 192.168.1.2. The existing router has the IP address 192.168.1.1.

I know this has worked as I'm able to access the web management page from any computer in the house by visiting the IP address 192.168.1.2. So far so good.

However, my problem is that the nano router cannot speak to the internet. If I login to the web management page and go to diagnostics, I can ping every other device on the network fine, but I can't ping anything outside the network (e.g. 8.8.8.8 or [URL].

I've tried in vain to get this setup correctly, all I can assume is that the nano router isn't correctly determining that the existing router (192.168.1.1) is where it should be routing all external requests and they're just getting lost, but there's no configuration for that on the web management pages.

Device in question: siemans C610 IP voip phone
Configuration:

* The C610 is directly connected to TD W8968 via the ethernet port number 3 >> ethernet port number 1 is connected to the devolo homeplug 200AVPLUS . The PC is at the other end of the homeplug network

* The DHCP address starts at 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.199.

Symptom:

1. It takes a long time (about 2-3 minutes) for the C610IP to obtain the IP address of 192.168.1.100 after the synchronisation of the ADSL line is finished 2. In the DHCP client list, I could only see the IP address of the PC (192.168.1.101) but not the C610 IP. However, if I type 192.168.1.100, I could access to the configuration page of the C610 IP. - I only managed to see the C610IP once in the DHCP client list.

I tried to unplug -> replug the router but to no avail.
