Cisco Wireless :: Aironet 2600 And 3600 / Determining AP Coverage
Feb 4, 2013
Aironet 2600 and 3600 series. I need to know their maximum distance (at least theoretically, in Line of sight, eliminating all other factors...) in order to choose the right number of AP to provide enough coverage for a specific area. If an exact number is not available then can you show me how to determine it?

I am don't need anything unusual and I would love to go with the 2600/3600 APs, unless mixing them up is a problem.

Configuring HP switches for Flexconnect. I am not sure if or not its doable? Access Points are 2600 and 3600 with 5508 as a controller. Idea is to keep the branch traffic local but the switches are HP.

I know that the deployment guide for 2600/3600 access points states that if you have surveyed for a 3600 deployment, you don't need to survey again for a 2600 deployment. As the the 3600 is the higher specification model, is it safe to assume the reverse? I.e. a site survey carried out using 2600 access points is valid for a 3600 deployment, or is this too simplistic?

I have a strange issue with clients connected to a WiFi network.I have configured AP in FlexConnect mode and 2 SSID's. After a reboot of the AP the network is stable for almost 45 mins. Then each client will go UP and Down, mostly with a delay of 5 mins.
What could be the source of this. The clients are Windows CE handheld with fixed IP adres. I already configure persitent client and have play arround with APR timers as well. Thereby an Windows desktop or an iPad has less connectivity issues but even they expert pakcteloss once in severall minutes.
Session timer is turned off
The iPad for example can play music, but each 5 mins you hear a little hickup and 2 subsecond ping are loss.
Controller version is 7.3

we have some (2) HP Notebooks with a Broadcon 4313 b/g/n WLAN Chip and use the latest drivers (2012). This Chip can provide up to 72 mbit/s with 2,4 ghz.
If we connect this notebooks to a Aironet 2600 AP (10 feet distance) the Windows 7 WLAN Dialog shows 72 Mbit/s for 3 seconds and than only 5.5 Mbit. Others (newer) Laptops show 450 Mbit. The WLAN works with WPA2/AES and PSK. The speed doesn't go up, if we copy a big file to the laptop.
Here is the Linktest from the AP to Client (from the WLC 2504 Webinterface):

Does Aironet Autonomous/Standalone 2602 support WDS (Wireless Domain Service)?
I noticed that Aironet Controller-based 2602 does not support WDS. I would like to use 1242AG series but it will be going EOS soon.

I have to set up the AP in a standalone mode to support voice and data traffic through the wireless network. for this, i was trying to look for the config guide so i know how to go about it, but all the doc was refering to controller based setup. i followed this link URL
I have never worked on wireless in a standalone mode, so this is the first time i will be doing it.

I purchased the AP wrongly, instead of getting the "Standalone/Autonomous" (AIR-SAP2602E) version but I purchased the controller-based version (AIR-CAP2602E); my question is can I use "ap3g2-k9w7-tar.152-2.JB.tar" too flash it to a "Standalone/Autonomous" version?

I've recently purchased a 2504 Wireless controller, and I have 10 2600 APs to deploy. I think I've set up the wireless controller OK - there doesn't seem to be much that needs to be done! But I just can't seem to register an AP onto the system.
Just to briefly outline what I have done, I have connected to the Wireless Controller via terminal emulator and run through the setup, then I have connected OK to the web interface, and I am able to view and amend the controller's configuration. So I have setup a WLAN and thats about it.
Next up I have powered on one of my 2600 APs, and I am able to view it working via terminal emulator again. But I am seeing it continually running the same routine to connect to a controller, and all the time it just fails. Below is what I am seeing.
One thing that I am unsure about is that I am unable to connect to the AP config pages via web browser, using the IP 192.168.0.97 (although it does ping okay). Is that odd?
And the main question - why doesn't the AP connect to the wireless controller? Do the APs need to be authroized on the controller first? If I check the controller's web interface, under Monitor - Statistics - AP Join, I can see the AP listed with Status "Not Joined" but I don't know what I need to do to make it join!

I am evaluating a Cisco wireless solution for our building. The building is occupied by two separate but related companies, which share some basic network infrastructure (some switches, an Internet connection, a DMZ environment), but which have two completely separate "Windows networks" with separate Active Directories. Each of these two networks are placed behind separate Microsoft TMG firewalls, each of whose external NIC are connected to the same DMZ network.
a) Acquire a set of Aironet 2600 APs and a controller, b) establish a BYOD SSID to be share between the two companies and guests, connected to the shared DMZ network, c) establish two additional separate SSIDs - one for each company’s staff, each authenticating against the appropriate AD-environment (incidentally, one is a straight Windows Server 2008 R2 environment with a TMG 2010 firewall and the other uses Windows Essential Business Server, so based on Window Server 2008).
Is that even possible with a single WLC?We are on 3 floors and about 60 people total. I am thinking that we can make do with 5 or 6 APs. Without having looked into it much, the 2500 controller looks good. Agree?

I have just setup a new WLC 2504 controller to manage a WiFi service that will span 6 geographic locations. The local networks at each location are on different subnets (all 192.168.x.x) and are linked up via IPSEC VPN links, and there is Active Directory spanning the sites, with DNS and DHCP servers running at each location.
I tested the WLC at our main office with a single AP, and it worked fine. The AP set itself up, and wireless devices connect with no probs. Great! Yesterday I headed out to one of our remote sites, and connected an AP to their network - and that seemed to work fine too. Within a few minutes I was able to see the WiFi network I'd setup, and my smartphone connected to it straight away (as I'd rpeviously connected at the main office), so I was pretty happy that all was working well.
This morning however I've had notification that wifi performance at the remote site isn't great. I've got someone to check their ip address, and I've found that their IP address and default gateway match the LAN at the main office where the WLC is based - NOT the LAN where the wireless client is. Obvioulsy this is not ideal!
(I guess I HAVE done something wrong!?). And how can I get wireless clients at remote sites to pick up an IP from the DHCP server at THEIR site?

Just wondering if there are any methods or commands, natively, in the asa5510 for determining all traffic in to and from a certain server passing through the asa. This would be without a syslog server or something similar.

I am installing a network in my small business and was given a spool of Cat5 cable to run wires... I know the length in feet of cable that I was given, but I was wondering if there is some kind of markers on the cable to tell me how much is left... I will be charged for it by foot after I'm done, and I want to know how much I've used. Do I have to just use a measuring tape? Seems unnecessarily complicated... I've checked the wire but can't see any marker of the length remaining.

I don't know what IP address he was using for the swithc - I have a decent guess for the username/password; but I'm not 100% sure on those either. how can I determine what this devices IP address is so I can telent into it? Do I have to reset the switch to factory config? And if I have to reset it, how do I do that? There aren't any factory reset buttons anywhere on the chasis. [URL]

I am trying to determin if Jumbo frames are enabled on out Nexus 7000, and I am getting mixed info back from the swtich.I looks like the system jumbo MTU size is 9216 by default, but the interfaces all say the MTU of the interface is 1500 bytes. According to this article, the interface MTU should read 9216 is the jumbo frames are enabled globally. Is this correct. Is there a way to verify if Jumbo frame support is turned on? [code]

I have a decent sized wireless network (120 1142 access points on a 5500 WLC) and any tips for maximizing the coverage. I know the only REAL way to fill true holes is to deploy more hardware, but I'm not sure if my WLC is configured properly to maximize the hardware already deployed. We have having a lot of issues with low signal in areas I feel are close enough to the AP that they should be good if not excellent signals. Our initial walkthrough and testing of the areas indicated that the APs we deployed SHOULD have been more than enough, but in real-world conditions it seems like it's not cutting the mustard.

I've been tasked with providing wireless coverage for an outdoor courtyard. The wireless that bleeds out into the courtyard is minimal for both 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands. I'm thinking a 3502p mounted just inside the wall hooked to a ANT25137NP-R patch antenna mount on an exterior wall. The red line on the wall will represent the antenna mounted on the wall. This will be providing coverage for phones on 5Ghz and general devices on 2.4.

We did wireless coverage testing using some 1142 units in autonomous mode, and got a satisfactory result, but upon converting these test units to Lightweight and adding them to our WLC5508 controller, the coverage has decreased noticeably.
Any tips or tricks to getting lightweight 1142 APs to have a range as far as the same hardware with autonomous firmware?

My router (D-LINK DIR-655) is in the living room under my TV in a cabinet with the lid closed (i would like to keep it that way, because the DIR-655 has the brightest led lights ever). My ground floor coverage is decent except in my back yard where i only get 1 bar or lose signal (we are talking about 10-15m distance). I am using mixed G & N mode with auto 20/40 MHz. In the past i had full bars in my back yard using a Linksys WRT54GL (Wireless-G) with DD-WRT firmware.
I have the following devices connected on my router: ISP MODEM / DREAMBOX / HTPC / DNS-325 / TV
1st Floor: I don't have any wireless coverage here, sometimes one bar but keeps dropping. This is where i would like to expand my wireless coverage in the whole floor.
2nd Floor: Here is my attic which i don't basically need any wireless. My main concern is in the 1st floor.

I got a few Cisco Aironet 3602i. The minimum WLC version to support these is 7.1.91.0. I am planning to upgrade to 7.2.103.0. The minimum WCS version to support these WAP is 7.0.220.0 and the next available 7.0.230.0. Checking the release notes for both of these WCS versions, there is no mention of support for WLC versions listed above.
URL
Am I missing something here ? What versions would be required on WCS and WLC to make all the three entities (WLC, WCS, WAP) inter-operable ?

I am facing this particular issue while providing Cisco unified Wireless solution to the customer. We are having CAPWAP 1252 APs controlled by WLC.
Scenario: 50 persons sitting in a hall with closely packed chairs using wireless simultaneously. Wireless access provided by patch antenna at a height of 11m from the user. As one AP can server 25 users, 2 APs are placed with antenna directions facing the compact users. Each users gets very good signal from these two APs.
Whether there will be serious interference and client association issues in this scenario? once one AP associates 25 clients, whether other 25 clients associate completely to other AP?
