D-Link DIR-655 :: Suggestion On Expanding Wireless Coverage

Jan 3, 2012

My router (D-LINK DIR-655) is in the living room under my TV in a cabinet with the lid closed (i would like to keep it that way, because the DIR-655 has the brightest led lights ever). My ground floor coverage is decent except in my back yard where i only get 1 bar or lose signal (we are talking about 10-15m distance). I am using mixed G & N mode with auto 20/40 MHz. In the past i had full bars in my back yard using a Linksys WRT54GL (Wireless-G) with DD-WRT firmware.

I have the following devices connected on my router: ISP MODEM / DREAMBOX / HTPC / DNS-325 / TV

1st Floor: I don't have any wireless coverage here, sometimes one bar but keeps dropping. This is where i would like to expand my wireless coverage in the whole floor.

2nd Floor: Here is my attic which i don't basically need any wireless. My main concern is in the 1st floor.

I have a TP Link router model number: WR941N (under hardware version it says "v2/v3", that's why I put "not clear" under "hardware version" in the form). Whether it was possible to add even more slots for Port Forwarding for this router, the current hard limit is 16, and I would like to have more than that, what would be the procedure to do so?

Cisco VPN :: ASA 5510 Configuration Suggestion

Oct 31, 2011

we have a cisco ASA5510 and our client owns a Juniper device. we already have a vpn tunnel in place between the two locations and its working fine. Now, they have some networks which are in more secure zone, if we add those subnets to the present tunnel we are not able to access them. so what they are suggesting that we can reconfigure the VPN to be a route based VPN instead of policy based  OR  configure a second VPN tunnel.am not sure of cisco ASA supports route based tunnels???.. Can we create a 2nd tunnel between the same devices ( asa5510 and thei juniper device) as the IP remains same, only the internal remote networks will change for me. do i need to make any changes to the present tunnel??

Cisco :: 5508 / 4402 - Office Extend Suggestion

Dec 15, 2011

I have attached a diagram of the current topology. At present, we have two 5508 connected to our core. We also have a 4402 behind the firewall (DMZ) just purely for guest access. So the staff users connect to the access point which in turns connects to the Staff WLC 1 (if this fails then to Staff WLC2). any guest user connect to the access point which in turn connects to Staff WLC which anchors to Guest WLC which then provides access. Since the guest is behind the DMZ they can only access the internet and not out internal network.

Now we want to office extend our network - we want our users to use 1132 AP at home to access the Infrastructure. is there a way we can do this without disturbing the existing infrastructure. On reading Cisco website, i know the best practice is to use 2 5508 (one behind the firewall and the other anchored to this access the internet network ) i thought since we have a Cisco (dmz) switch (48 port) and only the 4402  (Guest WLC) is connected to it, maybe purchase another 5508 WLC and connect to the 48 port Cisco (dmz) switch. will this work?

Cisco WAN :: 2821 - Router Suggestion For Multihoming 100Mbps Internet BGP

Aug 12, 2012

I am looking for a simple router recomendation for multihoming dual 100Mbps internet connections with BGP routing.  What are the current best practices regarding required resources for the full Internet BGP routing table?  We were thinking of specing a 3945 for this application, but is that overkill?  The customer has a 2821 that is not in use, I'm thinking this would be too slow for Internet BGP routing combined with the 100Mbps line speed.

Expanding Network LAN To WLAN?

Aug 30, 2012

My house is nicely wired for internet with access to the internet from every room via a wired connection. However, now that smartphones are starting to enter our lives and they like wifi, I would like to add wifi to my wired network. The router is in the basement and I would like to add wifi to the living room upstairs. So I don't think I am looking for a router/booster/repeater but some other piece of equipment that can be plugged into a ethernet plug in the wall of the living room and broadcast from there. I have used Connectify but that requires a laptop to be on all the time so I was hoping for something smaller and easier.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 Expanding A DMZ With VLAN

Jan 30, 2012

On our ASA 5505 We have a DMZ configured to use 2 ports, which are used by the mail and Web servers. So far everything works perfectly and this router has been very stable. Now I need to add more ports in order to accomodate prototype Web servers in the DMZ, but no more ports available on the Cisco. Looking through the ASDM though I noticed the DMZ seems to be configured as "VLAN 5", sure enough with VLAN ID 5. So I tried creating a VLAN with ID 5 in my ProCurve switch, isolated from other VLANs. My theory being that plugging on of the the router's DMZ interfaced onto this VLAN would allow me to add my test servers. Well, this seems to work, but for only a very short time. I can get the landing page from my test server to display, and then everything slows down to a crawl and communication seems to be blocked. Out of curiosity, I tried to put my prod server and email server on the VLAN, together and separately, but the same thing happens. At first, I can ping the machines, then after a few request, everything stops responding.

Linksys E2000 - Expanding Network Beyond Public Folders?

Dec 10, 2011

Have a network set up but it only works on the printer and public folders. Want the network to give me full access to all computers. Desktops and laptop run Win 7. Am familiar with computers. Was an electronics tech, NOT a computer tech, for 15 years and have upgraded / built several computers for family and friends for more than 10 years.

My guess is it would be a lot easier to put what I want to share in a public folder but there is only my wife and me. Guests log onto a "guest" account on the router and do not think they would have access to any folders, public or private, no matter how the network is set up on the main account but not sure.

Don't remember specs exactly but all computers are less than 2 years old. Built desktops with AMD dual core and 6 GB ram. Laptop has Intel Centrino dual core with 4 GB ram. Router is Cisco Linksys E2000. Can get more specific specs if needed. Desktops are wired, laptop is wireless.

Cisco Wireless :: Maximizing Coverage With WLC And LAP1142?

Oct 1, 2012

I have a decent sized wireless network (120 1142 access points on a 5500 WLC) and any tips for maximizing the coverage.  I know the only REAL way to fill true holes is to deploy more hardware, but I'm not sure if my WLC is configured properly to maximize the hardware already deployed.  We have having a lot of issues with low signal in areas I feel are close enough to the AP that they should be good if not excellent signals.  Our initial walkthrough and testing of the areas indicated that the APs we deployed SHOULD have been more than enough, but in real-world conditions it seems like it's not cutting the mustard.

Cisco :: CAPWAP 1252 - Wireless Coverage In Compact Area With Many APs

I am facing this particular issue while providing Cisco unified Wireless solution to the customer. We are having CAPWAP 1252 APs controlled by WLC.

Scenario: 50 persons sitting in a hall with closely packed chairs using wireless simultaneously. Wireless access provided by patch antenna at a height of 11m from the user.  As one AP can server 25 users, 2 APs are placed with antenna directions facing the compact users. Each users gets very good signal from these two APs.

Whether there will be serious interference and client association issues in this scenario? once one AP associates 25  clients, whether other 25 clients associate completely to other AP?

Cisco Wireless :: 1550AP - Define Area Without WLAN Coverage?

Nov 4, 2012

i have an Outdoor Area covered by Cisco Wireless LAN Solution (WCS,WLC,1550AP root and Mesh lightweight). I need to disable power transmission for some of these APs in the 2..4GHz.I tried two possible way, but both are not working:

1) Set the power of 802.11g/g/n to 0. There is no such option (power can be set manually from 1 to 5 and, as per the documentation, each level is a reduction of 3dB.  Therefore, even if i put to the minimum, i cannot guarantee that there is no utilization of the 2.4GHz spectrum).

2) Define an AP group containing these APs and don't add any SSID. Is not possible because at least one SSID must be added on each AP group.

Working solution/setting in AP/WLC/WCS to avoid transmission in 2.4GHZ? Otherwise the only solution is to power them off?
