Cisco Wireless :: Upgrade WCS 7.0 To PI 1.2 Via NCS 1.1

Feb 18, 2013

we have started to do the upgrade from WCS 7.0 to PI12. In order to do that we first need to upgrade to NCS 1.1. We have ordered the following from Cisco:
R-W-PI12-M-K9WCS 7.0 to Cisco Prime   Infrastructure 1.2 MigrationN/A14 daysNoN/A11.995,00  1.995,00  01.995,00  R-PI12-BASE-K9Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Base   License and SoftwareN/A14 daysYesN/A10,00  0,00  00,00  L-PI12-LF-500-

L-WCS-NCS1-M-K9 is the Product Number to do the upgrade from WCS 7.0 to NCS 1.0, R-WCS-PI11-M-K9 is the product number to dothe upgrade from WCS 7.0 to NCS/PI 1.1.
If I try to install just the License File I get from Cisco using the XML file from our WCS 7.0 installation, I get the error "Unable to add any license without an NCS (L-NCS-1.0-K9) license.".
But how do a get this license if I ordered R-W-PI12-M-K9 (WCS 7.0 to PI1.2 Upgrade License)? What is the step to get the right License?

AAA/Identity/Nac :: CSACS-1121-UP-K9 - Possible To Upgrade It Being Non Upgrade Part

Sep 10, 2012

Is it possible to upgrade the CSACS-1121-UP-K9 to be a non upgrade part? We were going to upgrade from a Windows 4.x to the above Appliance (version 5.x) but there is now a reason to keep the old Windows version running therefore we cannot give the new Appliance the old ACS's licenses?!So we should have (with hindsight) bought a fresh version of the ACS 5.x rather than an upgrade.

Cisco Wireless :: WISM2 7.0 To 7.2 Upgrade

Sep 17, 2012

We have some new WISM2 running, but now we need to upgrade their license to suport 1000 APs. So I am looking at upgrading the software to We are running WCS at the moment and got NCS with the new WISM2, so going to 7.3 and buying Prime Infrastructure is not an option at the moment, thus we are going for 7.2.
The thing is I can't seem to find much info about this upgrade. Is 7.0->7.2 a smooth upgrade? Do we need to do any configuration changes to the WISM2 or LAP1242? We are running H-REAP, will the change to FlexConnect be affected? I can't seem to find anything regarding requirements for 6500/SUP for running WISM2 7.2, do I need a certain software for that?

Cisco Wireless :: 7500 - Upgrade From To

Feb 20, 2012

After upgrading, ping times from clients has gone from ~10ms to ~2500ms. I have a Cisco 7500 Flex controller, when running controller code version client performance was as expected. When using code performance is terrible. I have tried upgrade to and clean configuration (reset) with with the same results.
I have tested using 3502i APs with the signal metrics (from AP) reported by the clients (all testing close to these figures):

Signal Strength   : -48 dBm
Signal to Noise   : 49 dB
AP's are in HREAP/Flex mode. The WLANs use HREAP/FlexConnect local switching. I have tested WLAN's with WPA2-PSK and 802.1x/WPA2 with the same results. I have tested several clientsoperatign systems , laptops, ipads, iphone. All experience consitent poor ping latency peformance on both 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz when using controller code
I have switched between and several times and the results are consistent; good performance on and terrible performance on I would like to use for its enhanced FlexConnect features but this is a real show stopper.

Cisco Wireless :: 1142N AP Upgrade Gone Really Wrong

Jan 24, 2012

I have run into a major issue with an autonomous Cisco 1142AP. We were in the midst of a firmware upgrade when something went wrong and caused the AP to reboot in an error mode. Basically the unit was flashing Blue, amber, red. We unmounted the unit from the wall, connected to the console, and it would now only flash red over and over. We pulled out the cisco guides and performed a factory reset on the unit. This still does not work. and the contents of our flash directory is empty. All we get is a ROMMON AP prompt on the unit. If I issue a set command, I can see the default settings for IP, netmask, etc.
I cannot access the unit via the network, even after setting IP info and matching it up to my laptop. Since I have no network connectivity, I can't TFTP a new IOS file to the unit. I am stumped. How to get the config as if it was out of the box, or an alternate way to TFTP to the unit? [code]Notice the lines in red, I must have typed someting incorrectly. Now once the unit boots after being reset, I cannot even type in the CLI. Someting majorly screwed up here. Can the bootstrap be reinitialized?

Cisco Wireless :: WLC 4402 Software Upgrade

Nov 7, 2011

I ##have a customer with  WLC 4402 in use, running software version, and supporting 11 APs at present. The customer wants to enlarge the WLAN, which involves increasing the number of APs. I #####have purchased a new WLC5508, and have installed it onto the network alongside the 4402. the 5508 is running software version Because the wireless network is critical to the user, we want to move the APs over to the new controller while the network is up and running, then remove the 4402.
However, when we set the 5508 as the master controller, or tell one of the APs to use the 5508 as its primary controller, the AP connects to the new controller, downloads the new software version, attempts to load it but reports an error with the unzipped file size of the software and fails to boot. formatting the flash on the AP, then disconnecting the 5508 from the network and rebooting the AP allows it to connect to the 4402, it downloads the older software and boots as normal. A new AP, if connected to the 5508 in a test scenario (ie no 4402) connects, downloads and boots perfectly.
I #have the upgrade software to allow the 4402 to be upgraded to, but I am concerned that, if this is installed, the existing APs will then fail to boot from the 4402 or the 5508.all APs are 3502s, running IOS version 12.04(23c)JA when connected to the 4402 and 12.04(23c)JA2 on the 5508.

Cisco Wireless :: WLC-4402-25-K S/W - Upgrade Went Wrong

May 3, 2012

WLC-4402-25-K S/W - Primary and Secondary Controllers were running 4.2.130 to begin with. Customer upgraded remotely using NCS -  Primary to 4.2.209 and then to 7.0.230 and all that went fine and is in Production.
Then customer upgraded Secondary also using NCS  also from 4.2.130 to 4.2.209 in preparation to upgrade to 7.0.230 and he lost contact with the controller. Sent a technician to site to troubleshoot by connecting to Serial Port. Technician #ESCAPED out of the boot sequence and from the BOOT MENU tried to boot the Primary Image and it failed with CRC error on Flash. He then tried to boot the Backup image and had the same problem. He then tried to manually load 7.0.230  - ER (Boot Software) using TFTPD32.EXE and that went fine. He then tried to load 7.0.230 "aes" S/W  - The big over 70 MB file and went through most of the file transfer but failed saying:
ERROR: Transfer Failed.
TFTPD32.EXE said something like "Data Packet too Short or some such thing". Sorry did not write down what TFTPD32.EXE said.
Then we thought "may be" a power cycle of the unit is required after the ER Boot Loader Image was loaded. When we did that the unit died. That is - no communication with the Serial Port. We don't think we have any choice other than RMA - Do we?
Customer says he did read and follow this link - especially Table 10-1. {URL}. He said he used NCS to do the Upgrade. I a not familiar with NCS.

How very helpful!!!  I suppose there are networking gurus who look after multi 1000 user systems who understand how the site works and think its fantastic.  I support 5 PC's and 7 laptops on top of my normal job, it should be easier.
