Cisco Wireless :: Upstream Bandwidth QoS Profile 5508 WLC

Nov 9, 2011

Is it possible, through a QoS profile, to control how much bandwidth a user gets to use for upstream traffic?  I can easily set limits for downstream traffic, via the per user bandwidth contracts, but it is not obvious to me on how to control upstream traffic.

Cisco Routers :: RV042 - Can't Sum Upstream Bandwidth

Apr 13, 2012

Since I've bought my RV042 CISCO (v3 hardware, firmware v4.1.1.01-sp Dec 6 2011 20:03:18) i wasn't able to let it work properly with my two DSL network lines. I explain. I got 2 DSL network:

1- PPPoE with authentication (MTU setted as auto) with upstream speed 4Mbit/S and downstream speed 5Mbit/s
2- Direct line with static IP with upstream speed 7Mbit/S and downstream speed 1Mbit/s

I was never able to SUM the two WAN using the LOAD BALANCE set. I tried all combinations:

DSL 1 in WAN 1 or in WAN 2
DSL 2 in WAN 2 or in WAN 1

I've tested all type of speeds in WAN SPEED in Web Management

it seems that for some kind of reason it takes the upstream speed i can set in web management as the default value on which it decides to use the other WAN. When i set low upstream bandwidth for DSL 2 it's able to sum the down streams of both WANs but not the up streams.

I wasn't ever able to sum the up streams? How does it work?

Cisco Wireless :: Bandwidth Management Using 5508?

Aug 16, 2012

I setup a WLC5508 with 2 SSIDs, one for guest traffic and another for internal users.  They are in separate subnets and are routed out to the internet via 2 different isps, with the guest network going over a bonded t1 and the internal users going out the primary internet connection for the company.  While this works as desired and we've verified that while on the guest network we're going out the right isp, we've encountered an issue with saturation of the bonded t1 pipe by guests.  We'd like to find a way to limit a guest to a capped down/up stream if possible, with downstream being the most important.  The infrastructure includes 3560 switches and AIR-CAP3502I-A-K9 access points.

Cisco :: 5508 - High Bandwidth Consumption For APs To Controller Communications

Mar 24, 2013

We own a Wifi controller 5508, with many access points connected to him. Except on the site where the controller is installed, all other APs are configured in FlexConnect mode through our MPLS network to prevent roundtrip for local communications (local client to local server for example).

Because of important slowness on one site where 8 APs are installed, we captured the traffic going in and out of our MPLS router and we discovered that the APs are consuming about 150kbits/s each in one-way communications with the controller (controller to APs), even when nobody is present (the capture was done this sunday).

Could you confirm me if this behaviour is normal or not ? What could explain such a large amount of data between the controller and the APs ?

from the above informations the upstream is 636 Kbps but when I did the speed test it show me that the upload not more than 300 Kbps.

I used another modem D-link modem and the upload is more than 550 kbps when I used speed test.

Actually the upload is very slow by using TP-link modem and when I used another modem the upload is double speed.

Routers / Switches :: Wired Router Is Upstream Of A Wireless Is It More Secure

Dec 22, 2011

2 routers in series, is one more secure. I recently asked about setting up two routers in series as routers, one wireless one not. It was my understanding that the computers on the second router would not be visible to computers on the first router, the wireless one. My assumption was that this would make it more difficult for someone who got access to the wireless router to also access those computers on the second router.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Fails To Set DHCP Lease Time From Upstream

Jun 11, 2012

we finally got my Cisco refurbished E2500 configured and working downstream from a UVerse 3801HGV box. We had to change the default IP address of the 3801 because it conflicted with the E2500's default. The E2500 is set up to get its Internet IP address using DHCP from the 3801.  This is working fine for normal web browsing, etc.  However, anything that requires extended connections (downloads, streaming, etc) freezes after a couple of minutes, forcing me to refresh the action to get it started again.  Extremely annoying to say the least.

I'm pretty sure that I've tracked it down to the E2500's configuration of the 3801's DHCP allocation.  For some reason, the E2500 wants to set the DHCP Lease Time for the 3801's assigned IP address to 10 minutes regardless of the upstream settings from the 3801.  The 3801's default is 24 Hours which I've changed to 168Hours (7 days), but the E2500 stays stuck at 10 Minutes. Specifically, I'm referring to the setting displayed on the E2500 under Status>Router>Internet Connection IPV4>DHCP Lease Time.

Atheros Ar5007eg - Can't Connect To Wifi Even With Imported Wireless Profile

Sep 1, 2011

I have Vista SP2 and sometimes I can connect to some WiFis, but now I've had this problem to connect already with two different WiFis. First one was a shared WiFi in a residential house. That I solved by exporting and importing the wireless profile from the landlord's computer. This time even this solution failed me. Having imported the wireless profile in my new shared house, it asks for a password and accepts it, but then it says: "can't connect to UPC...". If I click "diagnose the problem" it concludes with "Wireless authentication failed because of a timeout"

Steps taken so far: I have now deleted all pre-existing wireless profiles from this computer -> no change

ISP: UPC (in Ireland), ADSL broadband Anti-Virus: just free version of AVG Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter

Limiting Upstream Rates For Web In Ubuntu 12.10

Jan 14, 2013

Network settings. What I want to do is limit the rate that people can download files from my webserver remotely. LAN connections should still be able to transfer at full speed, but anything outside of the local network should be limited to 200Kbps per connection. Is that even possible? Can I limit the number of connections per client (probably by IP)?

If this can't be done at the OS level, is there any way I could script it using PHP? Maybe read X bytes into a file and then sleep...

Cisco WAN :: AS100 / Multiple Upstream EBGP Peers?

Nov 11, 2012

I am imagining a smallish networking (AS1234) with say three full BGP table peers that provide transit to the network (just to keep the maths simple here); Lets say AS100 and AS200 are preferred transit providers with AS300 as a backup/least prefered (AS prepends or similar stop us from using this network by default). So in this scenario our little network gets two different paths across the Internet, as not to rely solely on one provided, with a backup provider to hand also.

How do you mange issues like packet loss somewhere in AS100's or AS200's network? So lets say a host on our AS1234 network is talking to host in AS888 and the preferred route is through AS100 but somewhere deep in AS100 a link is flapping (for example) and I can't get to AS888 reliably through there anymore, but I can through to other peers of AS100 OK. We can postulate that AS100 is the best path for 50% of the Internet and AS200 for the other 50% (this is a best case fictional scenario). I can't ping 50% of the internet via AS100 and then in the event a ping fails (or some other more reliable test) tear down the BGP session to use AS100 until it's fixed again, nor vice versa with AS200.

First of all, I asume you don't know about the issue between AS100 and AS888 until someome moans about it to you? Secondly, do you then some how modify the route(s) to AS888 that come from AS100 (route map for example to change the weight or preference) so AS200 is now preferred for AS888? Do you infact shut down the AS100 peering and now use AS200 & AS300? How do you rectify these situations that are beyond you control using what is in your control?

Cisco Switches :: SG300 Stacking And Powered From POE By Upstream Switch?

Sep 11, 2012

I discovered on a pair of SG300-28P.

On a second switch (ver 1.2.7.76) when I unplugged the power cord, to my amazement the switch turned right back on (about 1 second later), with the power cord removed. To verify that the power is indeed coming from POE, the upstream switch (ver 1.1.2.0) that is the same model (sg-300-28p), shows all 7 Ethernet ports connecting the two drawing from 2700mW, to 3000mW.

While the second switch is powered from the first over POE, the POE does not work on the second switch to power anything, and the system summary mentions something about "PoE Power Information on Master Unit".

Is this a stacking operation, and is POE on the second switch NOT supposed to work when powered over Ethernet from an upstream switch?

Cisco WAN :: ASR 1006 RP2 - Change Upstream Provider Without Losing BGP Connection

May 22, 2012

We are connected to 2 different providers (PROV01 and PROV02) with eBGP full internet tables. PROV01 routes have higher local preference over PROV02.

We are having problems with our provider and would like your expertise. PROV01, higher preference has been having trouble with their router. The BGP remains up but the router stops forwarding traffic. as a resulta we lose connection to the internet but our traffic never goes to PROV02 since PROV01 BGP remains up announcing the 400K routes to us.

Is there a way to test internet connection though PROV01 and as the "internet is DOWN" automatically change traffic to PROV02? Can BGP parameters changes be triggered by IP SLA? Our router is an ASR1006 RP2.

Here are the queries.

1) Do I have to create another 1GE link between these 2 N5K to enable routing in between.

2) For these 2xN5K should I enable Eigrp on physical Interface or should I create VLAN & VRF to enable routing in between.

3) For N5K to Upstream L3 device should I have to configure EIGRP on physical Interface or should I create VLAN & VRF to proceed. We have 2 uplink each to connect to 2 DC and we are not planning to aggregate 2 links (VPC or L3 Ether Channel) for each site.

Data Flowing Upstream Mirroring Downstream While Browsing?

May 28, 2011

using task manager in XP it is clear that while browsing data is being uploaded mirroring the data downloaded..ie in a given period if 18mB comes downstream (just surfing) then 11mB goes upstream. The graph in task manager shows that the peaks and troughs of the data upstream and downstream exactly correspond and watching the bytes tick over confirms that data goes out for every data coming in.I assume that this should not happen? I realise ip protocols have some kind of error detection that may require uploading data, but the amount sent seems excessive! From my limited understanding of networking and running wireshark it looks like that when packets come from an ip on the web ( i use the terms web/internet interchangeably ) then packets are sent out to the same ip ... using TCP and HTTP ( I don't really understand them ). The info for one such packet going out is "Continuation or non-HTTP traffic" using the HTTP protocol, which sounds a bit contradictory. I regularly run virus scans and rarely find anything. The cpu regularly maxes out and its usually something to do with firefox ( I've heard of buffer overflows but i assume the problem is a relatively old processor and hardware). The browser is firefox. OS is XP.Coincidentally, the pc was recently rebooting after crashing until I disabled "restart on system failure" which prevented the crashes ( if they were crashes and not just the system reacting to an error ). Again, that is a bit suspicious but maybe not. Spybot, bit defender quickscan, avira, zone alarm, malwarebytes etc haven't flagged anything up.Maybe the router is not configured properly. As with all these things, there will be some simpler things to start with to diagnose this issue (if there is one ) but I don't know what they are.The pc uses wifi to connect. The isp is not the best and the speed is pretty bad for adsl. Every couple of days the router needs rebooting because it stops giving out ip's.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 Stack To Upstream ISP Separate Switches - MAC Flapping

Mar 11, 2012

I have an issue with a Cisco 3750 switch stack which is connected to two seperate upstream Cisco 3750's which are administered by an ISP.  The ISP is experiencing MAC address flapping from one of my VLAN SVI's i am using to route traffic upstream

[code]...

As you can see I utilise a VLAN SVI to route traffic to the upstream 1.1.1.2 (illustration only) IP.  As per the diagram of the topology attached, the ISP is receiving a MAC address flapping error confirming the SVI MAC address from my switch stack is being learnt on the trunk port connecting switch 1 and switch 2, and also the port (Gi1/0/48) directly connected to my switch stack. As these are all Layer 2 links essentially being passed upstream and then connected between the two ISP switches, we have a 3 way triangular loop formed.

If I was to remove the port channel configuration from the two ports associated with the VLAN SVI, am i right in suggesting this would still form a layer 2 loop?  The two ports would still be a member of the SVI VLAN, and it is the VLAN MAC address which is being learnt by the two ISP switches on different interfaces.
