Cisco Wireless :: WLC 4400 Need To Change On Configuration For Others To Join Properly

Apr 3, 2013

We have installed a WLC440 at a school with 30 1131 APs. Only 3 showed up under Wireless tab, and others became rogue APs. Where and/or what do I need to change on the configuration for others to join properly? Have matched the configuration on this WLC with other WLC at the other schools, and still not able to find out where the problem is.

Cisco Wireless :: 4400 - LAN Controller (WLC) Configuration Best Practices

May 19, 2013

I'm looking for a document that states the best practices for WLC configurations (Management/Security/AP's..etc). I can currently only find the following document:URL

But this document has last been updated in 2008, in a few days that's almost 5 years ago, and we all know how quickly technology is evolving. 10Gb wireless is around the corner, with 1GB starting to go production now. This document also mentions the 4400 (which is end of life).

Cisco Wireless :: WRV200 Change Configuration Settings

Jul 18, 2011

I have had a WRV200 wireless router running at the family office now for a several years now and recently I was made aware of an issue with the router. Previously it's function was to provide internet access for the laptops at the office and two workstations. It was a simple set up really, 1 SSID was for the work computers that were allowed on the internet and another SSID for personal and quest wireless devices and I made sure they were in seperate VLANs. This issue came into light after our office moved and with some new upgrades in networking equipment it was deemed safe enough to have the other computers on my wireless router.

What is happening is that all the computers will have a momentary drop of connectivity and will re-establish it's connection to the wireless router. I check the event viewer and it's the same thing accross the board. I'll have several DHCP warings specifically event ID 1003 and finally DHCP error 1000 almost 30 minutes after the first warning. From the looks of it there is something going on with the DHCP addresses about to expire and the systems are having issues trying to get it renewed. The error will happen then the computer will restore the connection.

I have it isolated to the WRV200 because of two reasons. Every machine is having this issue, it's not a random occurance on one computer. The big clue was when I checked Event viewer on my Marketing Director's laptop. These same errors were present all the way back to May which was before the office move and the router was provide access for our laptops to get online. There was no other networking equipment connected to it except for the Clearwire modem.

Between May and now the router has been reconfigured from scratch. New SSIDs, redid the internal IP addressing network wide to incorporate the new computers and would be easier to manage them that way. All wired devices go through a 16 port switch and then through port 1 on the router. Port 1 is on VLAN 1 and the others on VLAN 5. The 3 SSIDS are each on their own seperate VLANs. All systems are on DHCP and the important computers and the printers I am using Static DHCP. In the mean time I set all the important machines to use an alternate IP addressing scheme so hopefully there is no drop in conenctivity. While the drop is minor it could cause issues in the program called SLS (especially during printing) so I can not have this issue to continue. Configuration wise everything is defualt, is there something to change in the configuration settings that I may have missed twice now or the router simply near the end of it's life cycle.

Cisco :: LMS 4 Didn't Change Default Configuration Of Windows

Aug 18, 2011

I recenly installed LMS 4 on a windows 2008 R2 system , I didnt change the default configuration of windows or ciscoworks.I just added devices and configured basic things on the LMS system .when I open ciscoworks on the server itself it starts a browser session on http port 1741 and then changes automatically to https even though the default config is browser security disabled on ciscoworks.I try to open a browser session on a mgmt station to the cisco server , it didnt work in https ( I did get the login screen but couldnt log on , probablly something to do with the certificate ) , so I open http on port 1741 and it worked , I was able to log in .After a few Hours for some strange reason I didnt have access any more from the mgmt station not in http nor in https , the only way was to access it from the server itself.I went and changed the default setting of the secure browser on LMS 4 hopping that would work , I was asked to restart the ciscoworks service for the changes to take affect , I tried to restart it but it was unsuccesful so I restart the whole server. when it came up ciscoworks didnt work most services didnt start ( like the web server ,tomcat and all the manual services and ciscoworks deamon)

I looked online and they said the way to fix that specific error is to "change the channel" on the router to 1 or 11. (It is currently 6). I type in my IP into the browser like I'm supposed to (the default IP of the router), but ALL the options on the page are greyed out and nothing is click-able. Here's a screenshot

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 1721 / Change Remote Site Network Configuration With / Without Losing Connection?

Sep 19, 2012

My company just assumed management of a remote entity.  The network has several misconfigurations and I need to make some network modifications from my office w/o losing access or incurring lengthy outage to the clients.  The network consists of 1721 router and  three 2960 switches.

- I only have access to the router from the Internet.  I telnet off the router to the 3 switches.

The site uses a single class C 192.168.1.0 / 24.  The router is running RIPv2 even though this is the only network.  The prior network person (contractor) set up separate native vlans on each switch and all the ports are defined as Native trunk and access are defined to the VLAN interface  assigned to the switch.  So of course the logs are flooded with Native VLAN mismatch,  Each 2960 switch is a VTP server but has no VTP domain.

basic network layout:

Internet  => Eth [Cisco 1721] => Fa 0 192.168.1.254  ==> [SW1]
 [SW1]
 interface Vlan1
no ip address
no ip route-cache!interface Vlan220ip address 192.168.1.219 255.255.255.0no ip route-cache

[code]....

!interface GigabitEthernet0/1description SW2 Gi0/1switchport access vlan 204switchport trunk native vlan 204!interface GigabitEthernet0/2switchport access vlan 204switchport trunk native vlan 204!interface Vlan1no ip addressno ip route-cache!interface Vlan204ip address 192.168.1.224 255.255.255.0no ip route-cache Normally, I would assign the current 192.168.1.254 to a subinterface to Router Fe 0/0 but with each switch having its own native VLAN I am afraid I will lose connectivity to the downstream switches -- my only access is telnet off the Cisco1721 Router.

Cisco Wireless :: 4400 DSCP Mapping Toward 802.11e QoS

Aug 18, 2009

According to product bulletin no 3209 for the Cisco 4400 series, the Access Point supports 802.11e WMM.

My question goes to DSCP mapping, according to IEEE and your bulletin the DSCP field in the IP header should be set to 46 (10110 00) for mapping to a 802.11 QoS voice priority 6/7.But my Wireshark trace revealed 4400N is mapping toward with 802.11 QoS is set to Priority 5 Video.

If I google DSCP mapping toward 802.11 QoS all IEEE documention I found says EF /Voice should have 46 or 101xxx in the DSCP IP field but running through Cisco and HP docs gives 46 or 48 as value, that is the correct value. [code]

Cisco :: Wireless 4400 - Customized Web Authentication

I posted a few days ago but don't have a good response.  I've dig high and low and haven't come across a solution yet.  I've been trying to get a customized web Authentication typed.  I didn't need a user name or password to get through.  All I need is a web pass through and an accept button at the end of the HTML agreement policy or splash page.

I was able to create a log in.HTML and download to the wireless controller, but my problem is how would I get an agree button and when a user click on it and it would redirect to a website. I've followed the following link but no luck. {URL}. the link doesn't tell me weather I should create an accept button manually or is there a setting on the controller that need to check?  the link also provide some info. about: Configure Client Machine for Web Pass through, but where should I download the Cisco Aironet Desktop Utility?  I've download ACUv502005.exe file for my windows 7 but after the installation it didn't work for me. if you know how to configure the web-pass through.  I been working for this for a week now and didn't find the info. that I was looking for.

Cisco Wireless :: 4400 - IP Or MAC Filter On 1522 AP?

May 21, 2013

I have a wireless sytem with a WLC 4400 and several 1522 Access Points. They don't actually function as Access Points because I'm using radio communication only for backhaul. There are no clients connected to the Access Points. All traffic on the network comes from the devices connected on the LANs that are bridged through the APs ethernet port.

I would like to create filters to allow only certain devices to be able to transmit over the radio link. I've used this in the past on 1310 units and it was very easy to do via GUI. This filter could be either by IP or MAC Addresses. IP would be better for me.

Cisco Wireless :: 4400 How To Get New Access Point To Be Seen By Controller

Jul 23, 2012

I have a Cisco Series 4400 WLAN controller and I'm trying to connect a lightweight AP to the controller.  I have already assigned the switch port to use my wi-fi VLAN, and have connected the AP to the switch.  After a few minutes, the light on the AP goes from green to light blue (indicating it's serving clients). When I log into he wi-fi controller to look for the Ethernet mac address of the new AP, I do not see its Mac Address.  I want to be able to rename the AP to reflect where it will be used,  but need to select the AP via its Ethernet mac address before I can make any edits like changing its name etc. I've gone through the "monitoring" menu, selected "All" and still do not see it in their via its MAC address.  I also will select the "wireless menu" which lists all the AP's on my network, listing in order from on the longest running, to just powered on.Is there something I'm missing like a "re-scan" that scan's all devices?

i am using WCS 7.0.230.0 on WIN2K and two 4400 controllers running 7.0.230.0.both controllers are configured with SNMPv3 and SSH.  telnet and lower versions of SNMP are disabled.

Cisco Wireless :: 4400 - 5500 - Bridge With More Than 100Mbps

A new requirement has come up and we need to provide connectivity between two buildings (which are within 1 km)  using wireless. This link should be able to give >=100Mbps.

As we already have 3500/1130 APs, can a wireless bridge be established using them which can also give >=100Mbps? Can this be done using a WLC based solution? What I mean is: Do I need to have a standalone AP solution or can it be done while both the APs register to WLC? What are the AP models/antennas that can meet my requirement?
