We had a system outage due to power problems a few days ago, and now our WLC is showing short term packet loss when monitoring it using SNMP. We also monitor it using ICMP, but that shows no packet loss. I looked at the interface statistics on the WLC and all of the switches in between and there are no errors to be seen. is there any way to troubleshoot this problem on the WLC? I am more familiar with IOS than the WLC CLI.
This problem only seems to affect one of our sites. Every once in a while, several APs would lose link to the 5508 and get stranded. The only way to fix the issue is either to power cycle, or better yet SSH into the APs and use the command "capwap ap controller ip address x.x.x.x", and then they'd automatically rejoin the controller. At first, I thought network hiccups caused the APs to lose connectivity, but there's none that I could find. I have the primary/secondary controller IPs configured in them as well. See log below:
[previous log entries show AP working as intended, then...] *Jan 18 05:29:29.632: %CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: Retransmission count for packet exceeded max(CAPWAP_ECHO_REQUEST ., 1) *Jan 18 05:29:29.632: %LWAPP-3-CLIENTEVENTLOG: Switching to Standalone mode *Jan 18 05:29:29.645: %CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: GOING BACK TO DISCOVER MODE *Jan 18 05:29:29.645: %DTLS-5-SEND_ALERT: Send FATAL : Close notify Alert to [ommitted due to security reason]:5246 *Jan 18 05:29:29.704: %WIDS-6-DISABLED: IDS Signature is removed and disabled.
MIB OID and the values.also i want to know the values og output packet and output packet drops MIB OID values of POS interface on GSR router (12000).because i am getting many output packet drops on these pos interface.how do i get these values from the router.
How are certain settings/config transfered across to the AP's from the WLC, e.g. username and passwords, snmp strings etc.... I assume this is when the AP joins the WLC.More to the topic of the original question I had in mind, is it possible and if so, how? - to configure snmp read and write string from the WLC and push this config out to AP's. I can't believe someone will have to sit down (me) and SSH to 150+ AP's per WLC to configure SNMP.
One of the buildings lost connectivity to the WLC's breifly a couple of days ago and all seemed to have lost their SNMP settings. Connectivity was restored, but couldnt poll the APs. When I SSH'd on to a couple of AP's, and manually configured the snmp-server community xxxx ro - SNMP started working again. Since there are many, there must be an easier way of doing it.I've tried resetting the AP from the WLC and also powering down AP's and bringing them back up.
Using WLC 5508 on 7.4.100 Using AP's 2602 on IOS 15.2(2)JB$
We faced one recent issue with WLC configuration behavior and explaining our observation and workaround we did.Requirement is to manage the WLC (5508 with 7.4 code) using two SNMP managers in different locations. Also these two Servers should use the same community string to manage WLC.
We were able to configure the SNMP community string for one server IP (to allow access) through GUIWhile trying to add another Server – IP with same community string – it didn’t allow As per the configuration guide, Controller can use only one IP address range to manage SNMP community. So we cannot configure the same community string to allow only two different server IP addresses [code] We currently configured the major subnet ( 10.x / 8 - two match both server addresses) and it works fineAlso when we tried 0.0.0.0 / 0.0.0.0 , it didn’t work (SNMP was failing)But this creates a security issue wherein anybody can poll the WLC.
I am working on a wlc 5508 in a lab environment doing snmp reporting & i was wondering if there is anyway to after the timing on how quick the snmp traps appear on the trap log page? I have looked through the gui but cant seem to find anything, so not too sure if there is a cli command, the traps come in very quickly on the nms way before they appear on the trap log page.
I have three 5508 WLCs, running code 7.0.98.0 supporting 100+ LWAPs in H-REAP mode. The LWAPs are servicing 2-3 WLANs each. Some are using central authentication and local switching, some are configured for central authentication and central switching. When the LWAPs fail from one WLC to another WLC, the LWAP's lose all of their VLAN mappings and pick up the VLAN of the management interface on the new WLC.
All WLANs are configured to use the management interface on the WLC and the VLAN mappings are configured per LWAP on the H-REAP properties tab. The WLAN ID numbers and all the WLAN settings are the same across all 3 WLC's. I have created AP groups on all 3 WLC's and the AP group config matches across the 3 WLCs.
I can get the LWAPs to keep their VLAN mapping by creating an interface on the WLC with the VLAN ID of the locally switched/remote site VLAN and then setting the interface for the WLAN to the new interface. However, then the WLAN doesn't work, because the centrally located WLC doesn't have the remote site VLAN. It also seems to keep the VLAN mapping if I create the locally switched/remote site VLAN interface on the WLC , and point the WLAN to the management interface. This shouldn't be a necessary step though... In H-REAP with local switching, the LWAPs aren't using the interface on the WLC.
I found a note in the 7.0 WLC config guide that explains why the VLANs are picking up the management interface VLAN, but that same note says the VLAN mappings can be changed per LWAP/WLAN!
From config guide: For hybrid-REAP access points, the interface mapping at the controller for WLANs that is configured for H-REAP Local Switching is inherited at the access point as the default VLAN tagging. This mapping can be easily changed per SSID, per hybrid-REAP access point
Using H-REAP and been able to get the LWAPs to keep the VLAN mapping when failing from one WLC to another?
how snmp monitoring works when we have WLC in the networking. Before the WLC 5508 instalation, we had the Nagios monitoring each Access Point in the networking. Today, the Nagios still monitoring the networking, but the Nagios cannot get the same information of the APs (CPU, status interface, memory, etc). Now, the WLC controls each AP, the IP address, netmask, community (of all AP) are the same before the WLC instalation. I have tried to configure the SNMP information in Management>>SNMP>>Communities, but these configuration are from WLC and not from each AP.
How can I configure the SNMP setting in my AP to still use the Nagios to monitoring the networking?
I know there were a few post about users losing their access point config after a power loss to the ap. I wanted to share that I can confirm and reproduce this same issue with a number of access points that I have. I opened a tac case and will update this tread as the case progresses.
Noticed the last couple days that pages weren't loading on my laptop. Looked at the network status for the laptop and noticed that my network speeds would fluctuate from 54Mbps to 1Mbps, and various speeds in between. I had never had this happen before (I've had this router, a Linksys, for about 6 years). I thought maybe something was going on with the laptop. Grabbed my wife's laptop and she had the same issue. So, I checked the wired towers - their speeds are running at 100% all the time, no fluctuation. So, it has to be something with my router, but I'm not familiar with how to diagnose, etc. The router has a 3rd party firmware (DD-WRT) flashed on it, in case that matters. But I've had that on there about 4 years, nothing new. I've done a DHCP release and renew.
So my boyfriend and I just moved and, after struggling with our old wireless router we haven't used in years (pretty sure it was dead), we bought a whole new one in the hopes that starting from scratch would be simpler. It's a Netgear and we were aiming to hook up three devices through it; my laptop, his computer, and our Xbox 360.
He hooked it up no problem and we were using wifi for our computers and one ethernet cable through the router into the Xbox, peach as pie... Except my Toshiba laptop decided to rebel and allow me to use the internet for about five minutes before claiming there's "no internet." The signal says excellent and the little alert symbol keeps appearing and disappearing, but no pages will load. I tried running troubleshooting, but it couldn't identify the problem. Shutting down my laptop and turning it back on seems to be the only way to get it going again for another five minutes until the cycle continues.
I've got a linksys router with two desktops running on it fulltime. One is hardwired (Win 7), the other is wireless (Vista). Normally, they have no problems with connecting. But I just got a laptop (Win 7) that is causing the whole network to go down for about 15-20 minutes then it will come back up for all my PCs but still drop out sporadically causing another 15-20 minute wait Both my desktops are unable to connect during this time. I also just got an old refurbished XP laptop from work, and it connects flawlessly. Then we had a friend come by and try to connect to our network and her laptop had the same problem.
Im having problems with some toshiba laptops that arnt showing the SSID for some wireless points in the school. We have had the waps set up with the same ssid so we can walk around and the laptops will connect from one to the other. Its been like this for sometime however some new laptops we have got running windows 7 pro show some of the waps up as "other network" - File attached. The actual SSID on ALL waps is Peel Park WiFi Therefore it keeps losing connection to the wireless points and wont connect to some.
I am running the below rig and connecting wirelessly via my DSL Router to my Blu-ray player which is connected via HDMI to my TV. Using Windows Media Center I have been recording shows via an OTA antenna. They are in .wtv format and going on the 500GB HDD. Playing these files on my TV has been going well until this week. During playback we frequently lose the connection. I have tried power cycling the router and the player, re-entering my settings in the player and connecting via Cat 6 cable. The only clues I have are that I recently did a second firmware update on my player (did not occur immediately after that) and I sometimes get the following message on the computer... Media Foundation Protected Pipeline EXE has stopped working.
It seems to happen only when connected through our rooms or through wireless. When I connect directly to the router I don't lose connection. The router is downstairs and it routes the wired connection through a switch. So when routing through the switch or using wireless the connection is lost and re-connects about every 30 seconds to 1 minute. When directly connected it works fine. I've reset the router and reset all settings twice and nothing. I'm using 10/100. Not sure if any of this matters. I have also updated the firmware to 1.35NA. PPPOE password and username are correct as they have been given by our ISP. Any settings I should be aware of? Everything is pretty much default. All I do is setup the internet connection and then setup a wireless connection. Are we overloading the system maybe? I've also changed the password a few times as well. Seems like the logs fill up really fast. Keep getting blocked UDP and TCP packets from different addresses.
I have a Cisco Aironet c where it is configured as an AP. I use a Pocket PC to access the AP, but after a period of use, the Pocket PC loses communication with the AP for a short period of time and the application that is utilized in the pocket closes. After a few seconds it automatically connects. Searching the logs of the AP found the following warning: "Packet to client 0017.2302.8a5e Reached max retries, removing the client", but this is not always alert appears.
I have a UC520 in a building with several IP phones. We installed a WLC526 and two AP521's for seamless roaming of cordless phones. THe phones work great with no issues. When I am running a ping test on a wireless laptop, i keep loosing packets. It looses connectivity randomnly. DHCP is given via Windows 2008R2 server. Have a cisco 2948 switch also in the mix. THe AP's are connected directly to teh front of the UC520. Why do phones work perfectly and not data?
I have a problem with myself a few other clients randomly disconnecting from my 871W. It appears that I am still associated but Windows 7 shows "Limited Access". I appear to be assosciated to the AP and I still have my ip address but I can't ping the 192.168.1.1 gateway (871W). I have also set my power plan to allow for Maximum Performance which I thought disabled PSP but the log is still showing errors. As a final note, after I reconnected by ip address (192.168.1.107) doesn't show up in "sh ip dhcp bindings" but I'm working. To correct the situation, I have to disconnect and the reconnect to the AP and then I am good for another day or close to it. Below are the log errors, config and a sh ver. [code]
I have installed a wired and wireless connection for a compound which is around150 squire meters. I used the Cisco wap4410n routers for the wireless setup.
The structure is like this. There is a connection coming from the service provider. There is a central switch where the connection coming from service provider, the server, one Cisco wap4410n router and other two switches are directly connected to it. Again I connected other switches to the switches getting connection from the central switch. I used Cat 5e and Cat 6 cables to connect the switches as well as the wireless routers (For more info , the cable goes underground) and I used cross-over cable to connect switch to switch and straight-through to connect routers to switches. I connected the other Cisco wap4410n routers to the switches outside( I get like 6 Cisco wap4410n routers)The wireless routers are connected to the switches which are connected to the central switch and also on the other switches.
The routers are configured to have their default AP mode.My problem The connection is very slow. The connection is down almost every week and it needs to be re-configured. The connection nice on the router which is directly connected to the central switch(but not the same on the others routers which are connected to the other switches)even when I reset them they don't fall to .245 ( which is ok I can see them on the DHCP server but I still see it as problem)when I set them as a wireless wireless repeater, full signal but no connection(given that I have set same SSID, enabled allow wireless signal to be repeated, filling MAC addresses) Down here I have tried to show the architecture diagrammatically.
I have two 1310 bridges...one set as root and the other as non-root.For some reason they keep losing connection. When I reboot the non-root bridge, link is established. Both bridges have an antenna connected with the right connector and they have the setting antenna transmit right antenna receive right

We've had this AP for just over a year and just recently it started dropping its wireless connection. To fix, I have to and unplug the power and then plug it back in.. Then it works again for a few hours and drops out again. If I navigate to the config page right after it drops, all of the settings seem to be completely gone. But if I go through and unplug/plug it in again, all of the settings are back.
I updated the firmware to 2.0.4.2, but that didn't seem to resolve the problem. Is this thing a brick now?
our autonomous 1252APs. It loses network connectivity irregularly and ends up disconnecting everyone. It may stay up from a few days to a few weeks. I don't see any log messages that give any clues to why it is doing this. We have 30 of these working worldwide (on the same software level and same config) and this is the only one having the problem.
Things I have tried: Changing software levels - there is a code level where it didn't seem to have this issue, but I can't run it because then I'm unable to monitor it in our monitoring system. Swapping out wireless access pointsRe-terminating the cable on the AP side, it was really difficult to get the network cable into the AP while swapping it outBlocking a company test piece of equipment from connecting using the mac address filtering (it connects with one of their test IPs - weird) – I still see it connecting though I don't see high utilization on the switch port when the issue happens I had a few cases open with TAC, and they were unable to find anything wrong - gave them sh techs of prior to the event and after the event. It was one of those where the tickets were open for a weeks with no updates.
linksys router problems Linksys wireless router connected to cable modem. over time router looses connection to internet. rebooting router reestablishes connection. running XP sp3 from laptop connected wirelessly?
I recently bought a iMac and it has been fine apart from the wi-fi connection. It used to disconnect me for 2-4 minutes every now and then at first and then this died down, but recently it keeps losing connection altogether. When I go on run diagnostics it says that i have failed to connect to the ISP and internet. Is there anyway to fix this?,I use a Netgear router with an Apple iMac running with OS X Lion
i keep playing mw2 and when i go in to my screen it says that my signal goes green and then red like it jumps can you tell me what to do my intenet signal on my ps3 is 100% its just when i play this game
I have an Acer Aspire 5715 running Vista..the wireless was acting up so I purchased a new Atheros wireless adapter. It runs fine for a while then loses signal then pops back up. I have reformatted the laptop, checked all the appropriate areas (so that it does not turn off to save power) downloaded the latest drivers, and reset my router to factory settings.
my Intel wireless card keeps losing the connection. Until a couple of weeks ago it would be fine for roughly the first 20 minutes then the connection would just completely drop out and the only way to get it back again is to go into the network and sharing centre, disable the network card and then reenable it. Most of the time this works, but again for only the first 20-30 minutes, then I have to do it again. Occasionally it works for for longer but that's a rare occasion. Now not only does it do this, but also, if I put my laptop into sleep, sometimes when I turn it back on again the card will not connect to the network and I have to do the same disable and enable process.[ODE]
When using my pc through my wireless Netgear router, the connection is lost periodically and I get the message "default gateway not accessible". It only happens on my PC, and not on my IPad. What should I do to keep the connection on my PC?
Im currently living downstairs from the router. Its in a "secure location." Long story short, the person I live with is very private about the particular room its located in. I know the router is a "N" model Linkys.I installed the software that came with the PCI adapter (NETGEAR N300) and everything seemed smooth, then I constantly kept dropping connection. I then assumed the driver needed updating so I uninstalled the driver and re-downloaded the recommended driver from the netgear website,Things to know:
-I don't do any heavy gaming
-When I disable and reable the PCI adapter driver from device manager I can reconnect to the internet rather quickly.
-When uploading a video to youtube I found the connection to be more stable, but slower. (could of been a coincidence)
Currently I've been running "TCP view" to try to find something in the background taking bandwidth. I searched all the applications that it lists and nothing seems to be abnormal.
