I know there were a few post about users losing their access point config after a power loss to the ap. I wanted to share that I can confirm and reproduce this same issue with a number of access points that I have. I opened a tac case and will update this tread as the case progresses.

we have two WLC model 5508 with software version 7.0.116.0 (25 ap supported for each), i tried to add a new access point air-lap1131ag-e-k9 but after five minuts (maximum) the ap reboot, i replaced :
- power injector
- AC/DC adapter
- patch ethernet
- switch port
- switch
- ip of the access point
- reset a default of all access point i tried
- reboot of both wlc
I took the ap and connected directly to the switch (with or without power injector), but the access point reset with this reason.
I have 2 Air-Lap1242 that wont save their config after reboot. They are managed by a WLC (4404) and it all seems pretty fine and dandy, but when i reboot them, they dont want to save anything.
I am setting them up as bridges (mesh), and it works until i reboot them, then I have to do it all over again.Using CLI to type in "write mem" or "copy running-config startup-config" only results in: "Building configuration... [OK] -> NVRAM Verification Failed".
I have several AP541 (on different site locations) which I have currently configured for WPA enterprise using windows 2008 as the Radius server. This works fine for staff members who use the wireless when roaming around the offices.
I would also like to setup another VAP for guests to allow them to access our internet but nothing else on the network. I was wondering what approach would be the best one to adopt to achieve this. Would I be best to setup a WPA Personal VAP and allow guests to access the wireless this way. Or is there a better approach? If we did adopt this approach I presume this would mean that we have to log onto each AP in turn and then change the WPA key on each one everytime we decide to change the key? Or is there some clever software I could use to change them all in one go.
My WAP54G no longer has power -- the power light does not come on. I've unplugged the unit and moved it to a variety of different outlets that I know work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem, where we are installing a Cisco 2602 access piont, the AP is getting power as the lights are on (changing colors Green, White, Red). In the switch side the LED for the interface is blinking green only when I chosse PoE. Also I cannot see the AP in CDP neighbours.
It seems to be a physical problem but the cable is tested and showing connected for all pairs and parallal (straight) connection.
Access Point was connected directly to the same interface (I mean with a patch cable to the switch) and working
My Access Point Power Led blinks constantly, Lan led works normally, Wlan led never turns on.

I have a problem about no connection on casio handy terminal when two access point were power on. The devices were link with Cisco access point. for the other one i use dlink access point for the wifi function. I need to switch off dlink access point to make the connection between the device and the cisco access point.

each time that for what ever reason my access point goes down(not that my access point resets by itself, if i have to move it), the setting in the vlan mapping resets to whatever my native vlan is, in this case 30.
What is the OID for the count of the APs connected (and Status UP) to a WLC 5508?

But i open the WLC tha 1242 ap are not visible in ap list.

What we need to know is if I can implement Flexconnect on all actual access point - I think it is possible on 1142N + 1131G but do not know on 1231AG - is it correct or I'm wrong ? In our current Setup we have one WLC 4404 with 100 Access point license, now we have bought 3 number of 5508 WLC each supporting 100 Access point. Our plan is to Migrate all the Access point assosiation from 4404 to 5508. [code]

View 17 Replies View RelatedI have a switch stack with three WS-C3750X-48 switches running 12.2(55)SE. Recently, stack member 3 went offline for a few minutes, after being online for over a year. A show version on member 3 reports that the system returned to ROM by power-on.
Stack member 3 shares a UPS with a router that did not lose power and all three stack members have stack power with four 350 WATT power supplies between the three of them. There are no crashinfo files on any of the switches, log files show the stack ports on the other switches going offline then switch 3 being removed from the stack.
Surveillance recordings show there was no one near the switch during the time and AAA accounting shows no clues. Is it possible the switch crashed without leaving a trace in the logs, a crashinfo file and report that it returned to ROM by power-on?
I've read before that loose stack cables can cause stack member reboots. Would such an event generate log messages other than the stack ports changing states to down?
We have 2 of the SG200-26 switchs. When ever we loss power all the settings are reset to default. Even if we loss power for 1 min. This includes the IP, user, password, etc. How can I change this so the settings are saved?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Comcast cable with a Linksys WRT4Gs wife router. I live in an older building which loses power for a little while (10 minutes or so) with every big storm. Every time the power comes back the linksys router completely resets...I have to plug into it and change the SSID, turn security back on, enter the password again, and then I'm fine...can I prevent this from happening? Before I plug into it I see both networks available (mine under my name, but I can't connect to it, and linksys as a public network), is there a step I'm missing to make my router remember it's identity?

But the real problem is: if there is a power loss, both modem and e4200 lights up, but no internet connection is provided.Even the SSID desappear. I trried to disconnected everything, reconnect by parts, but no success.I wired connect the E4200 to my iMac and the router was ok, configurated.Then, i reconnect to the modem and all worked ok.Now im testing possibilities and is i reboot the router, the net desappear and i have to try possibilities till it works.
My older router connected automatically, without a problem, but i decide to buy "the best" brand and its top product". Now im disappointed..
Twice i realize that if the connections drops out, i have to disconnect and reconnect the internet cable from my E4200...
I have a strange issue which happened to me last weekend with two ASA 5515X on version 8.6(1)2. There was a planned power shutdown which only affected the primary firewall. Failover was configured and running successfully. The configuration was also saved after every change made. After power was shut and primary firewall went off the secondary took over like it should but unfortunately all configuration was gone. We immediately powered on the primary again but also this one lost the configuration.
While reconfiguring the firewall we ran into another problem. The devices won't pair although it was the correct configuration. After three times removing and adding the same failover configuration the devices accepted the failover and worked together again.
I went through the bug toolkit and white papers regarding ASA 5515x and this particular version but were not able to find anything.
I have 3 WAP321, all set to uk time zone, all the settings restore apart from the time, on reboot that defaults back to 1999 despite NTP server listed, interestingly have to manually reset time to present before NTP will update it.

If worst comes to worst i might go with another brand of router instead as i don't wanna waste a lot of money again as i currently feel i have with the E4200. Enough whining, here is my problem. The FTP and Media Server feature works nicely. I have a 2TB USB 2.0 HDD attached to the router's USB port. I use it for images and my music collection ripped there so i can play it all from my PS3 and TV. I also have many GB of video recordings and converted DVD discs for easier access. (And no, before anyone speaks of piracy, it IS legal, at least in my country, to back up your legit media) Now, everything worked fine, until one day after a few weeks, the router hanged for some reason so i decided to reboot it. To my disappointment it also wiped video and audio from my HDD which really got me pissed as i lost all track of what i had on the HDD. The Media Server was also having connection issues once in a while so i decided to update the firmware from 1.0.00 to 1.0.03. It immediately fixed the connection issues of the Media Server. Another noticeable change is that files transferred via FTP will show immediately via the Media Server without the need to update the database via the router as i needed to do in 1.0.00. Now today there was a power loss in the neighbourhood so the router went dead along with the HDD. To my big disappointment, everything was gone from the HDD when i started it up again. Images, music, video and even my application backups etc. It was just plain empty except for the root folders. I have done a few tests and figured that even if the HDD stays on, cutting the power to the router will wipe the connected HDD. What's up with that? Even a silly Windows PC wont nuke your files that much if an accessed HDD was disconnected while in use. Do i really need a UPS system for the router and safely disconnect the HDD from the router via the user interface every day? If so, the concept of having a router with these nice features is really useless and money theft in my opinion.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI leave on one of my computers on all the time, an Acer desktop with Windows XP. I also have two laptops. I have Verizon DSL and a linksy wireless G router. When we have a power outage the Acer desk top loses it's internet connection. Trying to reconnect the connection takes hours. Even when we finally get it back we have no idea how we did it. The laptops which of course were off have no problem.

I don't know what to do.Laptop manufacture says its AP but AP worked fine with old laptop and works fine when laptop is on power and all other devices seem to be fine with the exception of my Xbox 360 that wont connect if I have it on WPA2 but I will post another thread for that.
Currently have a 5508 in the lab and testing 4 AP's with it. Eventually there will be 18 AP's spread thru out different floor in our building.
So far access is working fine using WPA, 802.1x and the client configured to use windows logon credentials..But it doesn't seem to automatically transfer between access points.
For 3 years now, I've been using an NME-AIR-WLC25 controller with an ever-increasing number of AP's (reaching the 25 limit a few months ago). As part of a new construction project, I'm adding 5 more AP's onto my network. As a result, I purchased a 5508 controller with a 50AP license to get me started.
My question is simple-- is it possible to import the WLC25's configuration to the 5508? I have a feeling the answer is no, but I figure it can't hurt to ask, and if I'm lucky it will save me quite a bit of time configuring this new controller.
This problem only seems to affect one of our sites. Every once in a while, several APs would lose link to the 5508 and get stranded. The only way to fix the issue is either to power cycle, or better yet SSH into the APs and use the command "capwap ap controller ip address x.x.x.x", and then they'd automatically rejoin the controller. At first, I thought network hiccups caused the APs to lose connectivity, but there's none that I could find. I have the primary/secondary controller IPs configured in them as well. See log below:

We had a system outage due to power problems a few days ago, and now our WLC is showing short term packet loss when monitoring it using SNMP. We also monitor it using ICMP, but that shows no packet loss. I looked at the interface statistics on the WLC and all of the switches in between and there are no errors to be seen. is there any way to troubleshoot this problem on the WLC? I am more familiar with IOS than the WLC CLI.
